Xsyon: Prelude

Xsyon Does Not Require A Subscription (Since December 2015)

I am re-posting this information to clear up some confusion. I will continue to re-post this for a while so that it stays visible on the Store Page.

Potential players are getting obsolete information from reviews and other sources mentioning Xsyon's past subscription model. I want to make sure that it's clear that this model was dropped last year.

Since December, 2015, Xsyon: Prelude, the apocalyptic fantasy sandbox MMORPG no longer requires a monthly subscription!

Due to popular demand, Xsyon switched to a one time buy-to-play price allowing for unlimited and unrestricted game play.

Past paid players are welcome to return for free to the world of Xsyon to rejoin and rebuild tribes or check out the latest features and improvements!

For those who haven't kept up to date on Xsyon:

Features now include:
- Revised versatile architecture system with multi-story construction.
- Laying out and visualizing full constructions before finalizing your creations.
- Building of bridges, tree houses and fantastical structures with ease.
- Many new structural components including trusses, cantilevers and railings.
- Building uses including Infirmaries, Trading Posts and Welcome Stations.
- Extensive farming system allowing players to plant, water, tend and harvest a variety of useful crops.
- Innovative cooking system allowing players to combine ingredients and seasonings creating custom recipes. Players can save their recipes in a cookbook and create powerful signature dishes.
- Many improvements based on player requests and feedback.
- Optimized and revised engine code for improved performance.

Steam Keys are available for free to all past paid players for those that wish to rejoin Xsyon through Steam.

Xsyon's Spring Sale - 50% Off!

Xsyon will be on sale for 50% off through May 1st!

Come join us or take advantage of the sale to increase your tribe size. Xsyon accounts are also available directly through the Xsyon Website

In addition, as posted before, I am working on a series of updates that will start to roll out once enough improvement are ready and tested so that I can maintain a steady flow of patches for a while.

In the past, as a lone developer, it's been difficult for me to patch regular updates. Big updates were often followed by slow periods, especially due to health issues I've had and an injury I sustained last year (I'm doing much better now!).

This has caused an ebb and flow of activity in game and I'd like to keep the game more consistently alive.

First, in May we will inaugurate a new Event Season in game. Events typically run on weekend and have included contests, races, maze running, fashion shows and trade fairs. The Event Season will run through the summer!

Next up, several patches are now ready and will start to roll out in May.

The upcoming series of updates will include (roughly in this order):

Continued heavy optimizations
Revised position and action synchronization
Creature AI revisions
Creature stat revisions
Creature path finding revised
Combat revisions
Animal Taming
Pets
Mounts
Artisan and Master weapons
Two handed weapons
Weapon bonuses revised
Party System
50+ Improvements based on Player Suggestions
War Server territorial conquest system
Personal currency consolidation
Ranged Combat
First round of Achievements

Note: These improvements will come in a series of regular patches, not one massive update.

More information will be posted regularly on the Xsyon Website

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Update On Upcoming Features!

Here is an update on Xsyon's current state of development from the lead developer!

In the past I've released game updates as they're ready. This has resulted in active periods often followed by slow periods while I work on and test the next round of improvements. Unfortunately it’s been difficult to keep a solid influx of new and returning players this way.

This year I’ve been working with a different approach. While I’ve released bug fixes, optimizations and minor changes, I’ve been saving up major features and improvements until I have many ready to go. With a series of important updates released on a regular monthly basis, I hope to build and keep a steady momentum to attract new players and entice past players to return to an active world of Xsyon.

The upcoming series of updates will include:

Continued heavy optimizations
Revised position and action synchronization
Creature AI revisions
Creature stat revisions
Creature path finding revised
Combat revisions
Animal Taming
Pets
Mounts
Artisan and Master weapons
Two handed weapons
Weapon bonuses revised
40-50 Improvements based on Player Suggestions including a Party system
War Server territorial conquest system
Personal currency consolidation
Ranged Combat
First round of Achievements

I’m hoping to start rolling out these updates in January. Upon completion of these I will release Xsyon from Early Access on Steam!

Public testing will commence in a week or two, starting with creature revisions, synchronization, animal taming and many minor improvements. The Test Server is currently open and will remain open while I run specific tests.

When I’m ready for public feedback, I will post in the Developer Zone on the Xsyon forums.

Enjoy Xsyon!

Patch Notes 2016.08.08

Optimization and Bug Fix Patch

Optimizations

1) Corrected and improved occlusion system. This should improve frame rate.

2) Revised text / string uses. This affects all text in game (chat, any displays with text).

3) Optimized array systems. This affects anything that is stored in arrays (inventory, meshes, textures).

4) Optimized networking packets. This slightly reduces the amount of data sent and received and primarily affects inventory and tool tip packets.

5) Data and code prepared for upcoming improvements. Systems set up so that future changes can be switched on and off easily for focused tests.

Bug Fixes

1) Unable to loot small creatures on the edge of water
Creatures should now start swimming based on their radius / size and not a set water height. When you kill them in shallow water you should be able to access them now.

2) Inconsistencies cancelling eating
Actions cancelled should be consistent now (general actions that cancel resource gathering or crafting should also cancel eating and vice versa). Changing your craft or construction selection should now only cancel a craft or construction action in progress and not eating. In addition, being hit in combat should cancel eating.

3) Gaps in distant water
Gaps in distant or mid distance water should no longer appear. These usually appeared in the lake. If you do still see a gap, please post a location for me to check and your current screen resolution.

4) Tarp issues when dismantling
I removed both material and color from tarps. You should be able to create tarps from any cloth and stack them. Old tarps should be reset also and should be able to be combined now (with both other old tarps and newly created tarps.

5) Odd drinking while sitting animation
I’ve patched out a new sitting while drinking animation that doesn’t lean back like the previous animation. This animation has been patched to the live servers as well.

6) Unable to bring carts on piers
You should now be able to bring carts onto any pier or building over water.

7) Issues with quest objectives
I removed starter clothes from the Quest goal list.
You should be able to use the hyphen for goal objects like Lo-om armor.
I fixed the issues reported when splitting items into the Quest rewards.

8) Buildings and objects glitching from view
This shouldn’t happen now on the Test Server. If it does please give me a location to check.

9) Problems with 8x8 corner railings, floors and trusses
8x8 corner trusses, railings and floors should all fit together properly now. If you have any issues, please set up a situation on the Test Server for me to check.

10) Problems with beams and cantilever trusses
Beams should sink to the proper level now on both cantilever and corner cantilever trusses.

11) Incorrect leathercraft starting tools
Players choosing leathercraft as a starting skill should now start with a needle and a measure. The second craft knife has been removed as a starting tool. All other starting tools should be as before.

12) Issue dragging item icons to gaps between icons in container panels
If you drag an icon to the title bar or the space between other icons now it just won’t do anything. (Before it would give you a message pop up to destroy the item).

13) Tool tip on mutant deer hooves not displaying power
Power and correct info should now display on mutant deer hooves.

14) Dropping a container with materials used in a current craft doesn't cancel craft
Dropping containers containing materials used in your current craft should cancel crafting in progress now.

15) Terrain reversion creating traps
Technically this was not a bug just a problematic situation caused by terrain reversion. I've expanded the reversion buffer on buildings to reduce the problem with steep traps being caused.

16) Salt and tar pit where it should not exist
The salt and tar pit in this reported location has been removed.

17) Inconsistency with Innards and Guts
Now both innards and guts show power and decay. Both can also be partially protected when stored in food containers.

18) Dahteste Boots show invisible foot area
These are a proper full boot now.

19) Distorted view through projects
This looks ok to me. I believe it was resolved a long time ago. Or do any of you still see this as an issue?

20) Faulty collision for walls in water
Wall collision seems fine in water to me. If you see any problems, please give me a location to check.

21) Invisibility (hiding) not working in water
This looks correct to me and the players that have checked this issue so far. If invisibility is not working for you or looks incorrect in water, please post more information and steps to reproduce the problem.

22) Changing USB audio device causes an error
I bought a set of USB headphones to check this issue and can't reproduce the problem. I believe it was corrected when I last revised the audio code. If you can reproduce this problem, please post exact details.

23) Changing tribe leader's rank properly blocked.

24) Fixed issue causing trade totem items to be removed when attempting to remove a tribe leader.

Minor Improvements

1) Tree update improved to block trees from spawning on rock, asphalt road and scrap pile surfaces.

2) Scrap piles regenerate over time (like grass currently does).

3) Additional punctuation now allowed in Trade, Craft and Quest input boxes.

4) Quest creator's tribe name removed from the Quest View display.

Developer Update 12.03.2015

Hello Xsyon Citizens!

The Test Server is open for public testing. Please check out the feedback thread for full details.

I'm trying to close out as many bugs as possible this week and gather information on remaining, hard to reproduce issues. There aren't many bugs left on the official bug list and several issues should already be fixed on the Main Servers already due to recent optimizations.

One big change this week is revised keyboard input. Although this change should not be noticeable to players, it will allow for the use of the Steam Overlay functions for Steam players.

I hope to get things tested this weekend and patch the Main Servers on Monday. The next patch will include new architecture parts requested by players and further optimizations to improve game play on older systems.

Creature revisions in progress will also be back in testing this coming week!
