In the meantime I'm hard at work on the WildLife Update Part I and doing a lot of Optimization!

So a little extra info on that, we found that everything with the WildLife Update is taken so long already that we decided to cut the Update in 2 parts.
The First Part will contain (high over):

  • "Prey" Animals that roam around the valley
    These Include:

    • Mule Deer (Buck, Doe and Fawn)
    • Bighorn Sheep (Male, Female and Lamb)
    • Grey Foxes
    • Red Foxes
    • Wild Horses (These are tamable and rideable after Taming)

  • Contributor Rewards, Pet Pics and Names. (Depending on the reactions on the email and received information)


Part II of the WildLife Update will contain (high over):

  • "Predatory" Animals that roam around the valley
    These Include:

    • Black Bear
    • Coyote
    • Mountain Lion(?)

  • Limited Hunting Abilities
  • Trapping (Might be expanded on in a later update)
  • Non-Lethal defending possibilities for Player against Predatory Animals
  • Maybe, but not yet certain in this update: More craftables and placeables, like Campfires and SleepingBags etc for On the Go


With the release of Unreal Engine 5.1 last week Yosemite Forest Ranger is gonna look even more beautiful than it already does and run even smoother than it ever did!

With the Engine update also comes some extra work to make everything integrate well, as well as some of the Marketplace Assets we use are getting some BIG updates soon.
Sadly, this is gonna give us another bigger hit in the Development process, and time it's already taking to get a new update out. However I am convinced that it ultimately will make everything worth the wait and while!

So I would like to thank everybody for their patience and support!

Quick Hotfix addressing some stupid small things.

While working HARD on the WildLife update, I also push this Hotfix:

So upon watching some Content Creators I noticed the follwoing things and fixed/added the following:

- Food Cans no longer require Level 4 to consume. (This was an error from the start anyway)

- When you sleep your Fatigue used to get updated with amount_of_SleepHours x 10 this has been updated to amount_of_SleepHours x 20 so now you get twice as much, which is way more realistic! :)

- When you Sleep the weather also changes now to another Random Weather Type. (So you could sleep through Snowy and Colder weather if you don't have anythign to manage your perceived Temp yet)

- Disabled Dmage Text > The orange text that appears when you hit something is disabled cause it's misleading, it shows up even if you're not actually hitting something.

- Disabled random respawn location in radius for Stick-Saplings. (They spawned halfway in the air..)

Also a Thank you to user Pleabad in our Discord for getting us very useful information on the Map - Audio bug that somehow stops all ambient sound.

For now reloading from teh MAin menu is still your best option, we're still looking into viable ways of fixing!

Early Access V002.1 Swimming, New Area and Temperature Management Update
Like it says above, this update adds a hidden new area, can you find it?

Hey guys!
Okay Guys, first of all.. I'm sorry it took so dang long before this update released. This update shouldn't have taken so long for the amount of content but I ran into several problems..
I was hoping this update would be a quick one with some easy new content and some fixes from the previous state of playabiliy But turned out it was a bit harder. Lessons learned!

The issues were mainly with the way Unreal handles swimming and certain audio triggers. (More in detail in DevNotes at the bottom.)

That said, with this new update we bring quite alot of changes and improvements I'm gonna try to mention it all, though I might forget some..
Please feel free to give your opinions and suggestions on this in a constructive manner and we will see what we can do about them! <3

PatchNotes:

New Content:
- Hidden new area to explore
- Swimming in the Lake (Rivers are NOT Swimmable.. They gave me Sh*t.)
TOGGLE DIVING WITH Left alt
- Fahrenheit! USA USA!! (Selectable in the Settings menu)
- Different ways to manage your temperature
- Expansion of the beginner tutorial about woodchopping

New Items:
- 2 New food recipes
- 2 items for temperature management
- Canned food
- Pickaxe (Equipment)
- 3 new forageables


Changes:
- Woosh sound FX when you miss-hit with the hatchet (or pickaxe) (instead of "tink")
- Weather and outside temperatures are more balanced and realistic with the IRL seasons and weather probabilities of Yosemite Valley, CA.

Bug fixes:
- Food consumption is way more balanced now
- Fatigue refill on sleep.
- Blocked staircase in Abandoned Village house
- Some hard to grab items on certain locations, now grab-able


DevNotes/Nerd Details:
- Swimming system took waaaay longer than I wanted. Unreal uses physics volumes to trigger the swimming movement mode and those are not easily modular, I have to place them manually throughout all the river parts to make the animations look good and for now I decided it was a waste of valuable time.
- The new area had some issues with lighting and sound and I wanted to fix that as well. I can't say too much because of spoilers! ;)

- Sadly no fix for the audio drops yet.. Definitely connected to the Map and the way the map audio is handled... It loads the voice lines in when you open the map. And the issues seem to be related to the way the engine handles audio that is loaded and killed upon closing the map...
Not an easy issue or fix sadly. But a reloading to the Main Menu and back in game gets the sound back!
- I am experimenting with different ways to fix this or handle the map audio differently.
- Keep reporting any issues please!

New Hotfix! v002.0H02 and Plans for next bigger update.

Here's what I fixed for now:

- Added the percieved temperature back into the HUD (Bottom right, it indicates the temp you feel.)

- Holding right mouse button will allow you to hunch again, if you have your hatchet equipped it allows you to chop higher and lower instead of the fixed height.

- The Third Person Active cam is set correctly now (I hope 😛) So the picking up in the beginning around the cabin is easier now.

- Maybe a bit mor ei forgot about..


Little Teaser guys:
Next bigger update (hopefully at the beginning of next month) will bring:
- Swimming
- Better rivers and lakes.
- I will look at the temperature and make them more realistic
- Give you a "way" to manage your perceived temp better.
- A first part of a whole new area to explore.
- Depending on the amount of time it takes I might even add an option to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit. But again this depends on the amount of time implementation takes.

PatchNotes Hotfix (v002.0H01)

Biggest fix is the following:

- Turned off the hunching. Character won't lean forward or backwards anymore with mouse movement

We're working on some stuff for the next update, like looking if we can add optional aiming when the katchet is equipped and some more exciting new content! 🤫

You might find some issues, since this Hotfix build was build upon a version of the project where several future updates are in the making.

If you run into anything let us know, an dwe can make sure to take it into consideration for the next update.

Early Access V002.0 - Code Overhaul Update



Hey guys!
I've been working my buttocks off to get this update done as soon as possible, while still delivering my quality standards. I'm happy with this update, it turned out good and it will make big content updates in the future way easier to integrate!
That said, with the whole code overhaul there might be some new bugs to arise or elements that are different than before. We did excessive testing, however with a small team sometimes things slip through the cracks.

PatchNotes:



New Content:


- Choppable tree Stumps and TreeBranchDebris -> Gives Firewood which burns longer than sticks.
- Sharpening Stone, spawns randomly at certain locations.
- Skill books which give XP
- Kitchen Cabinets as Storage, if this works well I'll add more. (Request your favorite locations!)

New Items:


- Rusty Hatchet (as equipment) for chopping tree stumps and debris
- Sharpening Stone (Used in repairing the Hatchet)
- Firewood burns longer than sticks
- TreeStumps and Branch debris placed all over the map
- Cooking books (Skill books)

Changes:


- New Save System, this means current savegames are NOT compatible. You'll have to start a new game. (Sorry!)
- Current state of crafting stations and other world interaction objects are SAVED NOW! (Meaning, Inventories, current crafting cue, current combustible etc.) 🥳
- Character movement and TP/FP are changed a bit. Character can bend over forward and backwards a bit (handy when chopping trees).
- Certain steps of the tutorial are time-skipped now, so won't get stuck if you don't read and picked stuff up before that step came in the tut.
- Recipe Books will spawn randomly at certain locations (No more fixed locations)
- In the Abandoned Village all sinks will have Dirty Water which makes you kinda sick, kitchen sinks only fill canteens on interaction, bathroom sinks are still drink and fill, at a cost for dire moments!
- I'm working on swimming so the Lake might look a little different through the coming updates!
- Red Spotted Mushrooms are even more dangerous raw.
- Fall damage is more severe and dangerous now, watch out with heights!

Bugfixes:


- Forageables and sticks don't spawn into each other anymore.
- When picking up a Tape it will dissapear right away instead of after voice line.

- Sadly no fix for the audio drops yet.. Looking into this HARD it's not an easy issue. It does seem to be related to opening/closing the map, it loads the voice lines in when you open the map. And the issues seem to be related to the way the engine handles audio that is loaded and killed upon closing the map... Not an easy issue or fix sadly. But a reloading to the Main Menu and back in gamee gets the sound back!

DevNotes/Nerd Details:


- Updated to the newest version of UIS therefore most of the code had to be rewritten. But this makes it easier to integrate other components down the line so it was worth it!
- Therefore there might be some new bugs. I think we covered most...
- EMS is integrated and makes life good!
- Swimming system is being worked on, so the lake material changes through updates for testing what works and looks best!

By the way, how do you think Theo will do behind that computer? And yes kids, that's what PC's looked like in the 80's!
