Co-op and MP Overview

Quick update:

We've been making excellent progress on the Co-op and MP framework as of late. We're still waiting on our extra headsets (though we have the controllers) to test local multiplayer. Since we've had some dedicated players in here helping us along the way, we're going to put a fresh build out soon that will have some MP features enabled.

It may... well, it will be BUGGY as hell since it's impossible to test with a single headset, but this way you can all help if you feel like it. This will dramatically speed up fixes and get this game out of EA and have it fully functional much faster.

We can't give an exact date for this release yet, but we're talking in the next couple of days or so. This doesn't mean it will work then...(but it might).. anyway. To not confuse those that have the game but DON'T check the updates here, we aren't enabling the Multiplayer button by default.

Look for version ZombVR_b2_2_0_0 in the top right. That or higher and you can press this secret spot to unlock the Multiplayer button. It won't light up when you do it so just click the secret spot, then click Multi-Player!

Coop in Survivor and Sniper Defense mode will be the first available.
While we're confident that multiple people can join a LAN game at this point. How you will look to each other will be ridiculous and also we haven't been able to test the public MP so this is where you come in.

1. Click Secret Spot
2. Click Multiplayer
3. Choose Coop mode
4. Choose Survivor or Sniper Defense
5. Wait for others to join the lobby
6. Vote on the map you want and Ready Up

Just remember, it will be SUPER buggy! So please keep in mind you are helping to alpha test these features. If you're discouraged by bugs and don't enjoy the "building" process, please enjoy the SP modes until this is more fleshed out!

Oculus users please report any issues in the discussions! We personally haven't been able to test the Oculus controls as we're expecting our headset for Oculus on Monday! From the remote testers we got feedback that the reload button is too sensitive and where its placed is difficult to avoid accidentally hitting. Please use the swap reload button option or auto reload if you have this problem.

Thanks! Hope to see some of you in ZombVR soon!

Oculus Touch Supported! and other big updates.

We're pleased to announce that Oculus Touch is now supported by ZombVR!

A Note from the creators:
We've been a bit less active here lately. As you all know we have full time day jobs and sometimes those keep us working upwards of 15+ hours a day. Anyone in the IT realm knows how that goes. There are ups and downs and it's been really busy for us lately. But we're back. Hopefully this brings some more of the ZombVR survivors out of hiding to post their thoughts and feelings.

We'd like to hear from you all! Don't be shy please. Onto the goods....

The Updates
Unfortunately we're still waiting to receive the headsets to properly test it locally here but we've had a few volunteers that have assisted us in getting the controls ported over. It's been tough as the volunteers are on the other side of the country but we've made progress.

Check the controls link HERE for the a list of VIVE and OCULUS controls for ZombVR. There will be some refining of this once we get our headsets to test in real time, but at this point the controls work wonderfully on Touch and VIVE!

Additionally, check out these visual representations of the controls for both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Touch!

HTC Vive Controls

Oculus Touch Controls

Please note: The tutorial will still need to be updated in game for the Oculus Touch. At the moment the tutorial only pertains to those with the HTC Vive!

What's next?
Cross-compatibility and MP testing is set to begin Mid Dec, however without the additional headsets we can't test this very efficiently, so we'll develop toward it but the date may be delayed. We'll be able to release some early MP functionality publicly shortly after we can test ourselves. We'll start by offering COOP in the current maps and are developing the MP maps in the meantime.

Until Multi-Player?:
Look for the new Onslaught map (the Hallway) coming in the next week. As well as the updates below and ongoing bugfixes, improvements. Oh and Bee has promised to create some cooler looking Zombies to get rid of the remaining low res ones still plaguing the outbreak!

List of changes out now:
ZombVR_b2_1_4_4

  • New Feature--Oculus Touch support is now LIVE! (only menu button is not supported natively in the engine yet, but will be soon. Work around is to Press X and A at same time)
  • New Feature--Controls for both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Touch can be viewed in-game in the options menu!
  • New Option--Added option to allow right trackpad/joystick for LOOKING/TURNING (look/turn left, right - for those too lazy to stand up to play VR and would like to sit down ːsteammockingː )
  • New Option--Added option to SWAP the RELOAD and the FLIP BLADE buttons. Some were having issues during tight fights, or in fits of panic they were squeezing the grips and wasting their bullets. If you have this issue, swap the buttons so the reload is a top button and the holstering is the grips. Oculus Touch players may want to enable this as the TOUCH grip buttons are tough to aboid pressing by accident and have little resistance
  • New Option--Added option where you can set whether or not melee weapons stay in your hands when picked up without having to hold the trigger. It's a less realistic feel but it may be nicer for those that want long term melee combat. Keep in mind, with this enabled you will have to drop melee weapons using the drop controls (like currently done with guns)
  • New Option--Added an AUTO RELOAD option. If you don't feel like the realism of interactive reloading but still wanna shoot some zombies, the guns will reload automatically if you enable this. It's also good if you're new to ZombVR, to get used to the other controls. This will only be available in SP modes.
  • Bug Fix--Fixed Zombies spawning into stuck "break" area outside in the Watercooler map
  • Bug Fix--Fixed issue in watercooler where music is lost once the Office is entered from the Parking lot

As always, report bugs or suggestions here. We listen!

Quick preview of upcoming Onslaught map, "The Hallway"

Will start out as Melee only. Maybe will add a mixed weapon option too.

Some new features in this mode:

- Interactive flashlight (reload button toggles it on or off)
---- Battery drains when on
---- Self charges when off (uh.. solar powered.. sure.)
- Map is randomly generated so it will never be the same twice
- Still pretty early on so there's some clipping and some issues but figured I'd let you guys see what its becoming. Lot of time into generating the segments to fit right when they generate at startup

This will be the last SP map released before we shift all focus on MP. Bug fixes will still be worked on as priority though.

ZombVR_b2_1_x Released!

November 14, 2016
ZombVR_b2_1_4
List of updates:

  • You can RUN in bursts of 7ish seconds (hold the left(inside) trackpad button on the right controller while moving). There is a 3 second cool down.
  • First iteration of the office level (the Water Cooler) is live. Still working on polish and optimization but feel free to check it out in Lone Survivor. Expect multiple updates on this.
  • You can now skip the Audio portion of the tutorial after launching it if you want and jump (literally) straight to the original text based tutorial. Like This
You will miss the Grenade instructions though as that's not in the original text based tutorial.
  • Fixed issue where reload was bugged if gun was holstered in reload position
  • Fixed issue where hatchet would duplicate when holstered with Left hand
  • Fixed issue where items that weren't weapons would disappear when grabbed with right hand
  • Fixed issue where enemies would not always spawn in the general area you're in as intended. Sometimes they would spawn very far away
  • Changed penetrating bullet behavior for Snipers and Magnum. Bullets will now only penetrate first three surfaces.
  • Further optimized the melee combat. You can fight them with melee weapons much easier now than before and they react more to the hits. Zombies will hurt you mostly during their attacks and not when you simply get near enough to touch their hands or face. However getting all up in their grill WILL still hurt you. Fight and dodge their attacks strategically.

List of updates:

  • Options Menu is redone in new style
  • Options properly carry over until game is closed
  • Fixed bug in Onslaught mode where Zombies would spawn out of range or off map causing too many to spawn and memory issues.
  • Fixed bug with Magnum shots causing shot radius to grow each shot causing an over load of "hits" in the world leading to memory issues
  • 20 new Zombie characters added, fast Chasers that debut in round 9 now have a distinct look

List of updates:

Hello all!

Will here from DKG.

So sorry about the delays the last two weeks, we've actually been relocating from the east to the west coast of Canada. We had a lot of stuff shipped but also had to drive out as well so it's been tough working on the road!

Anyway, we've been working hard the past few days to try and tidy up for the release. It's not quite there yet in terms of polish but that's fine for now (it hasn't been polished since it launched last month!! haha).

The sniper defense mode has been ready for some time. It would have been good to release it earlier but we didn't anticipate the patch and move taking up so much time. That said, we've just released ZombVR_b2_1_0.

BIG update here this time. Whole new game mode called Sniper Defense with two maps. Armed with your pistol, sniper rifles and some grenades, you're the last line of defense before the zombies take the last safe haven.

  • Sniper Defense Mode Map 1: Cray-Z-Mart
  • Sniper Defense Mode Map 2: The Manor
  • 2 Sniper Rifles: Lee-Enfield & Modern Sniper Rifle
  • Grenades: Lob-able Hand-Grenades & Proximity Mines
  • New Tutorial: Voice-Activated & Visual Cues Tutorial
  • New Black Katana: Swapped With Original
  • Updated MAIN Menu Style
  • Melee Combat System Slightly Altered (still work in progress)

Things to note:

  • Sniper Defense - Will have coop very soon (please report bugs asap). Also remember that you can ZOOM with side trackpad buttons on the modern sniper rifle only.
  • 2 Sniper Rifles: Lee-Enfield & Modern Sniper Rifle
  • Grenades: Lob-able Hand-Grenades & Proximity Grenades (hold right shoulder button and toss to SET)
  • New Tutorial: Voice-Activated & Visual Cues Tutorial (recording needs re-doing but it should get the newbies through and onto the action)
  • New Black Katana: Swapped With Original
  • Updated MAIN Menu Style (working on the "options" and in-game menu still as it's taking a lot of tedious effort. This has actually been the delay causer for the last few days. Decided to release the Main menu updated and will release updates in the next days with more polish on all menus and the in-game menu reworked in the new style
  • Melee Combat System Slightly Altered (still work in progress) - Much nicer to fight with melee now. This will be expanded greatly still. Also planning on adding melee only hack and slash survival mini-game (the hallway). We'll also add some more melee purchase-able weapons in Onslaught mode so those hackers and slashers can jump right into it

We're on this again full time so please report bugs/feedback HERE

Patch Releasing Tomorrow (Beta 2 Build 1, AKA "ZombVR_b2_1_0")

Hello friends!

This update has been taking slightly longer than we were hoping but we've been making great progress nonetheless. The lead developer has been traveling all last week and has been working on updates remotely. Now that he's finally home things will progress much quicker again like we've all been used to since the launch a few weeks ago!

We were going to hold off and polish the update more, but in light of the Steam Halloween Sale going on right now, we'll be launching our update (first release of the Beta 2 Build) tomorrow, without The Water Cooler Lone Survivor map. The next release of "Beta 2 Build 1" will come shortly afterward and will include more polished updates from this build as well as some new content.

Things to expect in the first build of this update:

  • Sniper Defense Mode Map 1: Cray-Z-Mart
  • Sniper Defense Mode Map 2: The Manor
  • 2 Sniper Rifles: Lee-Enfield & Modern Sniper Rifle
  • Grenades: Lob-able Hand-Grenades & Proximity Mines
  • New Tutorial: Voice-Activated & Visual Cues Tutorial
  • New Black Katana: Swapped With Original
  • Updated Menu Style
  • Melee Combat System Slightly Altered (still work in progress)

Things in queue for second release of Beta 2 Build 1:

  • Lone Survivor Mode Map 2: The Water Cooler
  • Option To Set Music On/Off
  • Updated Zombies: New Look for Zombies with higher textures and more variety
  • Mini-Game: A more melee heavy mini game with zombies to put you right into the truly "hands-on" blood spattering action
  • Purchase-able Laser Sight & Scope For Various Weapons

We hope everyone updates Steam and downloads the update tomorrow! We will be posting an announcement when it is officially live.

Have a Happy Halloween!

ZombVR Current Status

Greetings fellow gamers and friends,

We posted an announcement earlier that suggested an ETA of October 21st (today) for our next big update/patch. We are currently back-logged with life situations but have been working extremely hard. The update is almost complete! However, the update will not be today. We will give a better status update as fast as we can when we are even closer to completion.

Beta 2 Build 1, AKA "ZombVR_b2_1_0"

Things To Expect In This Update:

  • Sniper Defense Mode Map 1: Cray-Z-Mart
  • Sniper Defense Mode Map 2: The Manor
  • 2 Sniper Rifles: Lee-Enfield & Modern Sniper Rifle
  • Grenades: Lob-able Hand-Grenades & Proximity Mines
  • New Tutorial: Voice-Activated & Visual Cues Tutorial
  • New Black Katana: Swapped With Original
  • Updated Menu Style
  • Lone Survivor Mode Map 2: The Water Cooler
  • Melee Combat System Slightly Altered
  • Option To Set Music On/Off

Things In Queue (may or may not be in this update):

  • Updated Zombies: Slightly New Look for Zombies
  • Mini-Game: Zombowling
  • Purchase-able Laser Sight & Scope For Various Weapons

This is most of the stuff we hope to have (most already completed, just a few things to complete here and there and bug-test) within the next build.

In the meantime, if you're active on social media, please follow or like us, and share us around! It would be extremely helpful for us and new motivation always makes us work a lot harder (not to say we aren't operating at max speed already).

You can also view current updates and what we're working on easier through social media :)

Next Build Update!

Sorry for the lack of updates lately folks, we've been heads down working on the next build. Also remember we're a small team (2 at the moment) and unfortunately this doesn't pay the bills so we gotta work lame "day jobs" in order to stay alive and such!

Anyway, this gets our devoted attention every hour we can afford it. We've been working hard on getting things finished for the next build, which will be Beta 2 Build 1, AKA "ZombVR_b2_1_0".

Below is a video showing some scenes from Sniper Defense mode at the Cray-Z-Mart!

Tentative ETA: Oct 21, 2016

Here's what you can expect in the this build:

- Nice looking menus (finally)
- Grenades (toss or set them as proximity bombs)
- Sniper Defense mode (single player) with 2 maps (plays great standing or sitting!). This will be the first multi-player co-op mode launching very soon after this build is released! The snipers will be locked to their location while the ground support is locked to theirs. All in-game funds earned are pooled among teammates and you must strategize together to make the best purchases and support each other to survive.
- The Water Cooler (Lone Survivor Map)
- New Katana melee weapon is back in play
- Updated melee combat system making it easier to go melee without being hit for hit. Previously, melee was more of a desperation/side weapon feature. Meaning, when you get close enough to melee a Zombie you're most likely going to get hit at least once killing it
- New "entry level" tutorial with voice and visual queues to learn the basic controls. Once completed you will drop into the original "tutorial" which is more of an obstacle course now to practice what you've learned
- Enfield rifle is now complete with animated reload. Single shot, upgrade-able only in firepower. It's the strongest sniper rifle but it's slower and has only one zoom
- Modern Sniper rifle is weaker than the Enfield but still quite strong. Firepower is upgrade-able. Starting with a 3-round clip which is upgrade-able as well and has two zooms
- Option to turn music volume to 0 in the menu

https://youtu.be/7bWrLcPyheM

Hoping to have
- Purchase-able laser sight for pistols
- Purchase-able scope for non-sniper weapons

ZombVR's 2nd Steam Access Key Giveaway results :)

Hey all ~

First, thanks for the ones who are consistently keeping up with us as we go through our rough patches leading up to our final release. You guys have been an incredible help and we wouldn't be able to do it without your support.

Our 2nd Reddit steam access key contest concluded today. If you want to check out how we did this contest, you can view the video here. It's quite fun and you can hear our sole programmer talking (running on no sleep for more than 20 hours as well!).

Just a heads-up that if you don't hear from us in a couple of days, it's because we're working hard on bringing patch/build_11 out as soon as possible. It's the next biggest patch with sniper defense mode and possibly a new Lone Survivor mode (The Water Cooler)!

Hope you guys keep up with us and continue to support us :)

All the best,
DKG

New Steam Key giveaway contest on now!

We had a great turn out for the first Steam Key draw but we didn't get a lot of votes here for the next Lone Survivor map. So we're doing one more Steam Key giveaway draw! Just one more, so if you're still on the fence about this game, here's a good way to try and get a copy and save the $20 for beef jerky and ringolos!

Rules are simple:

Post a comment on the reddit thread and vote for the next Lone Survivor map!

Rules and info are here!

It won't be a simple drawing of a name this time. We'll let the Zombies decide who wins, see reddit thread for details!

Winner of Reddit Steam Key Contest .. and What's next?

First off, our Reddit Steam Key contest just ended today! The winner of the contest is Toptuning. Welcome aboard! Not to fret for our non-winners though, because we'll be hosting another contest! This time we'll be linking usernames with zombies and randomly shooting one for the winner! Stay tuned on Reddit for the new thread. We'll link it here as well.

Next, what's coming up in ZombVR_b1_11?

Here is what we have planned:

- Two sniper rifles, modern and old-school finalized and usable in Lone Survivor and Sniper Defense mode
- Sniper Defense Mode (SP version) : You're the last hope to keep the zombies at bay. Perched atop a mighty Bastille (of sorts) you must stop the onslaught of zombies from breaching the safe zone! Armed with only your Sniper rifles, a pistol, and maybe some grenades here and there... you will not survive.
- Sniper rifle upgrades
- Laser sight upgrade to standard pistols
- Add scope upgrade to non-sniper weapons

Potential candidates for this release, time permitting:
- Melee weapon combat system rework and to include punching
- Climbing system rework
- Additional Lone Survivor map
- Additional Sniper Defense map

Not in build_11 but soon ...Sniper Defense MP:
Shortly after this release we'll work on making Sniper Defense an optional Co-op experience. Would be a good intro to MP. Still working on details of this but we're thinking something along the lines of a sniper or two in the perch and the other players on the ground. Difficulty will scale with the players involved.

Ground floor players will have to not only defend as well but make ammo runs to stock the sniper with nades and ammo. If you have any suggestions for this mode, now is a good time to make them for consideration :)
