V0.9.9 Update

With this update Zone of Lacryma leaves Early Access! I managed to do most of the things I wanted, and feel that it is already worthy of a full release. The next couple of weeks will probably be all about fixing bugs and adjusting and balancing the game even further, so that I can eventually release V1.0.

Thanks for everyone that was part of the Early Access, and specially the ones that somehow helped make Zone of Lacryma a better game!

V0.9.0 Update (early access)

With this update I'm trying to balance the game, making chasing highscores or speed runs as interesting as possible. It will also be the last update before the final release.


New features & Content



  • New destructible structures on every mission (speed run routes)
  • Shooting now has a small recoil (slows ship down) that increases with weapon level

  • Story update
  • Mission layout tweaks to accommodate the new destructible tiles
  • Dialogue box size during gameplay adjusted to better fit text
  • Removed difficulty selection (better balance the game + difficulty is based on player's play style)
  • User interface updates automatically when changing input method (game pad or keyboard)
  • Removed Walda's jump to simplify movement inside the ship
  • Slow zones always trigger brake movement (even when using turbo)
  • Charge bombs end turbo movement (avoid cheesing combos)
  • Weapon level 3 and 4 charge cost decreased by 1
  • Asteroid tile maps collision tweaks
  • Adjusted bullet volume

  • Creating a game in an empty slot would set weapon level to zero

V0.8.0 Important Update (early access)

Big changes in the core mechanics of Zone of Lacryma!
This update will probably break your saved game!

New features & Content



  • Energy meter removed. Shooting uses charge meter now.
  • Turbo no longer requires energy (turbo can be turned on for the whole mission, if you can manage it).
  • Combo increases weapon damage.
  • When combo ends charge is recovered based on combo X.
  • C-Triangles are only dropped by tougher enemies now. C-Triangles recover charge and reset combo meter to max.
  • Charge Threshold allows energy shield and charge bomb to be used when charge amount is above the threshold (not max charge anymore).
  • 3 difficulty options.
  • Bullet animation
  • Turbo animation

  • Initial controls are clearer now when running the game for the first time.
  • New heaven tilemap update
  • Score is much higher now to avoid confusion with charge meter value.
