5089: The Action RPG

v1.94 Update

This update brings native OSVR support (win64), enables another music track & adds a virtual reality "thumbstick" option that should improve Oculus Touch compatibility. v1.94 also has more improvements listed below.

To test the native OSVR plugin, use the "Launch OSVR" option.

I fixed a bug that caused the 5th music track to not play -- you should hear it now!

When playing in VR, and you want to use Oculus Touch controllers, try setting the "Thumb Mode" to "Thumbstick" under "Input Config". Vive wands have a Touchpad, which is the default "Thumb Mode".

This update is currently on the [BETA] branch, so you'll need to opt-in via 5089 -> Properties -> Betas.

11/13/2016 Update: Added a 5089-osvr.bat launching script, which will handle passing the "osvr" argument to launch with the native OSVR SDK.

v1.94 Update also addresses the following:

  • Fixes story background on "safe" graphics mode
  • Grappling hook properly disconnects when entering or leaving the hatch
  • Improved building placement to not overlap over roads
  • Fixed the non-VR option to not actually start SteamVR

v1.91 VR Update

  • Added a message saying vehicle & grappling hook use is disabled in "room scale" mode, since these would require artificial movement. If you want to use these features in VR, use "Mixed" or "Sitting" movement modes.
  • Added support for a vrsettings.txt file, which can tweak GUI graphics. Details below.
  • v1.90: Added an option to disable rain effects, which may have caused some performance problems for some users
  • v1.91: Fixed messages starting from the top when repositioned using different values via vrsettings.txt
  • v1.91: Added options to move the detection HUD element via vrsettings.txt

If you would like to change some of the GUI positioning & sizing parameters used in virtual reality, I've added support for a vrsettings.txt file. 5089 will look for that file in your home directory's 5089 folder. For example, on Windows, it would be located at "C:\Users\\5089\vrsettings.txt". This is the default contents & values:

VR_RADAR_X=0.2
VR_RADAR_Y=0.3
VR_HUDPOS_X=0.2
VR_HUDPOS_Y=0.2
VR_DETECTION_POS_X=0.6
VR_DETECTION_POS_Y=0.3
VR_OVERALL_GUI_SCALE=0.333
VR_MESSAGES_OFFSET=0.8
VR_GUI_RESOLUTION_CAP_WIDTH=1280
VR_GUI_RESOLUTION_CAP_HEIGHT=960

Some good values for renderTargetMultiplier of 2.0:

VR_RADAR_X=0.55
VR_RADAR_Y=0.65
VR_HUDPOS_X=0.55
VR_HUDPOS_Y=0.45
VR_DETECTION_POS_X=0.6
VR_DETECTION_POS_Y=0.45
VR_OVERALL_GUI_SCALE=0.5
VR_MESSAGES_OFFSET=0.6
VR_GUI_RESOLUTION_CAP_WIDTH=1600
VR_GUI_RESOLUTION_CAP_HEIGHT=1200

If you want to change or apply values, make a vrsettings.txt file, put it in that location, and tweak away. All numbers are percentages, except for the GUI_RESOLUTION_CAP values. Higher X/Y values will push those things more to the right/up. Smaller VR_MESSAGES_OFFSET values will put messages further down the screen. The bigger the GUI scale, the bigger the GUI will be. The RESOLUTION_CAP will increase the GUI "canvas" size.

Feel free to tweak the numbers to get something that works best for you. This should also help people who want to move the GUI around in VR, but don't mess with supersampling.

Frantic Freighter: Want a beta key?

Phr00t's Software next title is Frantic Freighter, and I'm looking for beta testers!

Frantically attempt a delivery across space in a freighter. Unfortunately, your ship is constantly falling apart. Spare parts are your best friend! Hopefully you can trade, find stashes & evade pirates long enough to make it, although you probably won't... but hey, the pay is good!

Interested in trying it out, providing feedback & your impressions? Let me know here:

Looking for a unique open-world, procedural action RPG (with Vive support, of course) from Phr00t's Software? It is being designed & planned for release after Frantic Freighter. Stay tuned!

VR Mixed/Sitting Movement Fix v1.88!

I'm suspecting a bug was introduced in the last update which improved "room scale" mode movement, but broke mixed/sitting touchpad movement. Keyboard movement shouldn't be affected. The issue was reported here:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/414510/discussions/0/359543951715754957/

A fix is now available for all!

v1.87 VR Update

The quick-teleport feature is better! Thanks to this suggestion, the teleport ball will shoot in the direction your wand is pointing, and no longer where you press on the touchpad. This will give you better vertical control & simply be more intuitive.

v1.87 also includes an update to OpenVR 1.0.2

v1.85 Update & Straw Poll

This update should address a map indicator bug when using built radars, as discussed here:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/414510/discussions/5/412446292762463414/

Indicators should now properly clear and be associated with actual targets, yay!

I'm also running a straw poll on themes for the next Phr00t's Software project -- vote here!
