Greetings Commandos,
Here are the updates we have coming your way:
Steam Leaderboards
The latest patch (2016.08.12) fixes several minor issues when browsing the online leaderboards. In addition, record times are now displayed with millisecond precision. Note that these are visual improvements so the actual scores have not changed.
August Sale
8-Bit Commando will be going on sale this month so make sure to add the game to your wishlist. If you'd like to the support us, check out the 2DEngine bundle package.
Upcoming Game
2dengine is always hard at work and we hope to roll out our next title Super Chains, by the end of this year. Show us some love by joining the play-testing group and leave some feedback.
Have a nice day!
Local versus mode
Greetings commandos
Another exciting update is out, featuring local versus mode. All you need is a friend and at least one controller and you're ready for some 1v1 action!
As usual, the latest update features a number of small fixes too. Thank you so much for the support and let us know if you have any suggestions.
First of all, I would like to thank the Steam community and everybody who has provided suggestions on how we can improve the game.
Gameplay
We have tried to listen to feedback as much as possible and as a result, the game has improved significantly. Several levels have been redesigned to focus more on action and coop. Movement is also faster, bullets have more range and the platforming sections are easier to handle. Again, thanks to everyone who has helped or provided suggestions.
Achievements
Players can now get an overview of which achievements have been unlocked by going to Highscore -> Achievements.
Thank you for the support and hope to talk to you on the community hub.
Even more fixes and languages
Greetings commandos,
You may have noticed the game being quietly updated in the past couple of weeks. We have been fixing a number of small issues so no need to be alarmed.
Fixes
The fifth mission now includes the "checkpoint blimp" which may not seem like a big deal, but it's quite helpful for players who otherwise cannot get past this stage.
A number of other issues have been fixed too (mostly involving rendering and gameplay balance).
On sale until April 25th
8-Bit Commando is currently on sale (ending on April 25th). For players who are reluctant to buy the game: there is a free demo available too. If you would like to support us, check out the 2DEngine bundle where you get a 15% discount when buying 8-Bit Commando plus Collisions.
New languages
Shoutouts to Riccardo and Human Spider who have helped with translating the game into Polish and Italian.
Thank you for the support!
Additional languages, fixes and upcoming sale
Korean and Hungarian
8-Bit Commando is now available in Korean and Hungarian. Huge thanks to HumanSpider and KWAK for their help with the translation.
Fixes
I would like to express my gratitude for the feedback by the Steam community, both the positive and negative. With your help, we have fixed a lot of gameplay issues and annoyances. Here is a list of the most recent fixes:
- respawn issue with certain objects
- jumping down from the train
- laser was getting blocked on level 5
- rendering issues on levels 1,5 and 6
- improved response when running into soldiers
- analog filter disabled by default
- music not as loud by default
Thanks again to everybody who has left a comment or a review, as it helps us improve the game.

New Leaderboards, Achievements and Trading cards
Leaderboards
We are releasing a new set of speedrun-based leaderboards. This was a tough decision as it means that the old boards will no longer be supported. The game has changed too much so the new boards will only be tracking time.
Achievements
The game now features nine Steam achievements. The “Untouchable” achievement in particular will provide a good challenge for the more hardcore players.
Trading Cards
Seven trading cards are currently awaiting approval from Steam. Hopefully these should start dropping in the next couple of days.
Again, we thank the community and our friends here at Steam.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or if you find any bugs.
Revamped
First, we would like to thank our friends here at Steam. We have considered your feedback and are happy to bring you an updated version of 8-Bit Commando.
What's new?
Improved controls The game's physics system has been upgraded. The controls are much tighter and the gameplay is more fast-paced. Players can now lock their movement while shooting (by holding the jump button) and jump through platforms (by pressing down and jump).
Coop mode is more enjoyable too as players can now jump in at any checkpoint.
Cooler powerups Thanks to the awesome feedback from the Steam community we have redesigned the weapons in the game. It's also possible to switch between available weapons by pressing the start button.
Better graphics The game is more colorful and runs at a higher frame rate than before.
For added authenticity, the new graphics filters allow you to experience 8BC as if you're playing on an old-school CRT.
Cloud saves Please note that the new version of 8BC uses the Steam Cloud, so your progress may be lost when you upgrade for the first time. No need to panic though, you can just
enter the following cheat code from the title screen to unlocks all levels:
UP UP UP DOWN DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT
What's next?
We will be rolling out different features in the upcoming few weeks.
The online hiscores and achievements will become available as soon
as we are sure everything works properly so please be patient.
Thanks again for the support and we hope to see you on the community hub!
We're looking forward to your feedback so we can make the game even better.
Laser whip update

We have just rolled out an update to the Windows version of 8-Bit Commando. The Mac and Linux versions will be updated soon.
Here is what's new:
new laser whip power-up
more balanced distribution of power-ups, especially in the later levels
player health resets after completing a level
fixed shooting through enemies in the Mountain hideout level
fixed the resolution and fullscreen toggle bugs
fixed a bug that occurs when browsing the leaderboards

We want to thank you again for playing our game and please continue posting your bug reports and suggestions on the "Discussion" boards.
