Minor Update



Hello My Children,

This is a minor update which addresses a few lingering issues with Absolute Drift.

Improvements:

  • Game Audio mutes when minimizing the game.
  • Scraping the ground doesn't kill the multiplier anymore.
  • Wall tapping doesn't kill the multiplier as easily now. (However, if you wall-tap very hard, it will).
  • Added a quick restart button to the controls.
  • Added a clutch button to the controls.
  • Made the Hoonivan slightly larger to reduce its competitive advantage.
  • Updated the game engine to Unity 5.6.
  • Updated the input system, which should hopefully fix Win 10 + Xbox controller bugs.
  • Added more Sake.


Fixes:

  • Controller vibration continuing after an event ends.
  • Car momentarily starting in reverse when restarting an event.
  • A couple missions in World 5 free-roam that weren't consistently detecting spins.
  • Falling through the level in World 5 if you hit a certain place at a certain angle.

Minor Update (Beta)



Hello My Children,

Been working on minor update which addresses a few lingering issues with Absolute Drift.

It is undergoing Beta testing, access it by opting-in to the [beta] branch in the steam client.

Improvements:

  • Game Audio mutes when minimizing the game.

Post-Release Hotfix #1



The Zen Edition has been out for three days, and there have been many new players, along with many bugs to fix.

Here is the latest patch and I'm working to fix new bugs as they come up!

Improvements:

  • Added controller logging for better controller troubleshooting
  • Can have more than one controller/input device plugged in (ie. steering wheel + gamepad)
  • Added WASD controls. (sorry I forgot!)
  • Game engine updated to Unity 5.3.6p2


Fixed:

  • Fixed controllers vibrating if the car crashes right before the pause screen or on game over.
  • PS4 controllers should work on SteamOS now.
  • Minor bug where the Lighthouse in World 5 in Free-Roam had an incorrect collider.
  • Max frame-rate is limited to roughly 200FPS to fix some UI glitches.


Known Issues:

  • OSX: Crash when entering midnight events. Look here for updates.
  • OSX: crash on startup. This has been temporarily fixed on some machines by skipping the Splash Screen.
  • Some people have reported problems completing The Completionist achievement.
  • Car sometimes starts in reverse or neutral when restarting an event.
  • Glitches with the pause screen or game over animation. Try turning v-sync on if this happens to you.

Absolute Drift: Zen Edition is Out!

The Zen Edition update that I collaborated on with Flippfly is finally RELEASED!

We added several new features to the game for the Zen Edition, including:

  • New “event challenges” that will extend the gameplay in the game’s 34 tracks by challenging players to complete increasingly difficult tasks.
  • Drift Lines: a new challenge in events where you must drift through all the dots.
  • 5 all new “Midnight Events.” These night-themed tracks are designed to challenge even the most experienced players.
  • Replays and ghost cars. View your friends' runs or the best in the world!
  • An all new tutorial and in-game guide to help new players ease into the game’s features and controls.
  • The ability to choose different controller layouts.
  • New input system for better controller compatibility.
  • Cloud saves.


If you were playing in a beta branch, you may need to reinstall the game for access to the new update.

Flippfly, the creators of the game Race the Sun are working with me to develop and publish the Zen Edition on the Playstation 4 platform. We are adding several new features to the game for the Zen Edition, including:

The Zen Edition of Absolute Drift will be available on Steam in Q3 2016 as a free update.

A note on the current game: it does have a new input system which should be more reliable than the current one. I apologize for the lack of updates, but since the game was updated from Unity 4 to 5 in the Beta version here, there was a crash on startup bug which was stopping further releases and it turns out it was a bug in Unity engine, which they seem to have fixed it for us recently.

Update #3 (Beta)

The game engine for Absolute Drift has been updated to the latest version which should bring more performance improvements. Also, the input system has been changed which should fix the Xbox One controller bugs. Please try it out and report any bugs in the forum!

To Enable the Beta:
1.Go to your Steam Library and right click on Absolute Drift
2. Select “Properties” from the drop-down menu.
3. Select the “Betas” tab
4. Select the beta option in the drop-down menu.

NOTE: If you get a crash on startup, delete the local content and then install the game again.

Improvements:

  • Upgraded the game engine from Unity 4 to 5. The new version has performance improvements, such as an upgraded physics system.
  • Changed the input system which should have better support for controllers.


Known Issues:

  • If you get a crash on startup, delete the local content and then install the game again.
  • UPDATE: THIS IS FIXED NOW* The Mountain Drift Tracks and the Mountain Tracks in Free-Roam have an issue with the car sliding around uncontrollably.

  • If you are on Linux you may have to add add this option in the steam client (in properties -> set launch options):

Update #2 - New Difficulty Options!

Absolute Drift was at PAX Prime and I got to see many players try the game. I even got to see a few people who have beat it which was pretty awesome.

The most notable change is a difficulty setting. The default controls are Hard.

  • Added a setting to change the screen resolution. In the Main Menu, go to Settings->Graphics.
  • Added a setting to change the DIFFICULTY of the controls. The old controls are the same as Hard difficulty. In the Main Menu, go to Settings->Controls.
  • Redesigned the layout of the tutorial.
  • Added a timer to the Driftkhana tutorial which will automatically unlock the next challenge type after 1 minute.
  • Made the camera look further in front of the car.
  • Implemented anti-cheat software which prevents modifying score-related values in memory.
  • Spin-Zones & Spin missions are now more consistent and fair when calculating spins.
  • Donuts & Donut missions are now more consistent and fair when calculating drifting.

Update #2 - Beta
