Adore 0.9 - Devlog 04

Hi, adorers!
In this devlog, we'll talk more in detail about the new Creature Abilities and new Item system!

Essences




Before we dive into details of the abilities, let's talk about essences.
Essences are what define each type of creature in the world of Gaterdrik and they are used to create synergy between your creatures.

You can collect them in two ways:

  1. If you kill a cursed creature, it has a chance of dropping an essence of its type.
  2. If you capture a creature, it will drop the essence of its type.



Abilities


The creatures' abilities are now permanent!
Each creature now has a random set of abilities. They are unlocked at level 2, 4 and 6.
But here is the tricky part about it, they only work if they have synergy with another creature! It's similar to how it worked before, but now you create the synergies with the help of Maena, the trainer.



Some points about synergies & essences:

  • If you leave the creature in the sanctuary, it will lose its synergies.
  • The synergy has 3 levels of power.
  • There are 3 sizes of each Essence, they provide 1, 2 or 3 points of synergy.
  • Every time you go back to the village, the synergies decrease by one level.
  • You can apply more than one Essence of the same type to the ability, they will accumulate.
  • The essences that you don't use in that turn, will dissipate.
  • Icons & UI! Now the abilities have Icons and a redesigned UI to improve the identification.


As we said before, you need essences that you collect, to create the synergies.
For example, if you apply a Nature Essence to the ability of your Obyx, you will need a Nature Creature to fight alongside Obyx. This will activate the synergy that you just created with the Essence.

Items



Some great reworks here to adapt the items into the new gameplay loop.
Now, Baldin, the Shopkeeper, will live with you in the village. Every time you go back to the village, he will have new items to sell.


Also, we are introducing Item Quality and Durability to the items.


  • Items with higher qualities have more durability and stronger bonuses.
  • You can find Items of Quality 1 and 2 in normal maps. But the Item chest will always have a Quality 3 item! Also, you can find Quality 3 items in Expeditions.
  • If you buy an item that you already have, it will upgrade the quality and reset durability.
  • [ Not implemented yet ] We want to implement in future updates, a way for you to repair an Item. We are still testing and thinking about this, but the idea is that every time that you repair it to reset the durability, it will lose 1 quality until it reaches 0 and breaks.
  • If you drop a new Unidentified Item, it will automatically identify it. You no longer need to use Fragments. We've found players not spending fragments to progress on the Item Meta, and items are so important in the game experience to create new exciting opportunities for combos, builds, etc...
  • Gold is now permanent! We are still pondering if you should lose some of your gold if you die(maybe 20%).
  • Redesigned UI.

Just to remember, every time you go back to the village, all durabilities decrease by one.

Adore 0.9 - Devlog 03

Hi, adorers!
Today we are going to show more about the new gameplay loop of Adore.
As we said before, we believe that these changes will explore much more the potential that Adore has, while still maintaining the core gameplay, that we love, untouchable.

The game is leaning towards the Creature Collecting side, but also with strong Roguelite elements, such as incentivizing the player to adapt to different situations.


So what's new?



New Gameplay Loop




Now, when you finish a map, you will return to the village. So, between your adventures, you'll be able to manage your team of creatures, their synergies, your items, consumables and runes!

Each time you go back to the village, it will count as a "turn". Everything is tied to the turn: Creatures energies, synergies, items, consumables, maps, etc.



Expeditions




We loved this addition to the new gameplay loop. Basically, it brings back the feeling of a run.
Expeditions can be short, medium, or long and you will have to complete multiple maps in just one go. They will have better rewards and some creatures that you can only find during Expeditions.

Draknar Statues & Traits




After the golden era of the adorers, Draknar Statues became very rare. The only way to find them is to go on an Expedition.
Every time you adore a Statue, your creatures will be blessed and increase their trait points bar so they can earn new traits.

More:



  • As you progress into the game through quests, new maps will be unlocked and with them, new creatures. Also, new creatures can appear in the old maps as you get deeper into the Gaterdrik world.
  • You can see what rewards you are getting before going to a map, this creates some interesting choices for the player.
  • Every objective will also expire after a few turns, so plan your way carefully to not lose the rewards you want or need.
  • You can sleep at your house. Your creatures will rest, healing and recovering one energy point. But all durabilities(items, objectives, synergies, food) will decrease.
  • Each day(turn), every creature in the sanctuary will recovery one energy point and heal.

Adore 0.9 - Devlog 02



Hi, fellow adorers!
Today we are going to talk about our new Cooking & Consumables System.

We think that Adore is lacking in that extra care with your creatures. That time that you relax a bit from the action and take care of them. And the cooking system is here to improve this.



Consumables


First, you need to collect the ingredients during your adventures through Gaterdrik.






There are five types of them:

  • Meat: Health
  • Fruits: Health + Energy
  • Bugs: Health + Traits
  • Mushrooms: Traits + Health
  • Honey: Energy + Health

Basically, they have a primary effect and, most of the time, a secondary one.

So, what does that mean?
You can consume or give to your creatures any of the ingredients you collected. But if you combine and cook the ingredients, the effects will accumulate and the primary ones will be boosted!



More about the effects:
Health: Heals the target
Energy: Recovery Energy(we'll talk more about this on one of the next devlogs)
Traits: Give the creature temporary traits!


You can give it to your creatures right away or keep and take it to your adventures!

Adore 0.9 - Devlog 01



Hi, Adorers!

With the help of the community and the hard work of our team, Adore has been evolving since its launch in Early Access, and we believe it still has a lot of potential.
But we think that the current gameplay loop is limiting the game.
That's why we decided to take the game on a new path.

We have a Roguelite Creature Collecting game. But with your feedback, we've been leaning towards the Creature Collecting side. And this update will take a huge step in that direction, but keeping roguelite aspects, that we love, to the game.

New Home & Shrine of the Adorers



Every time you succeed or fail, you'll come back to a little village, a refuge in the cursed world that Gaterdrik is now.


With lots of requests to raise the number of creature slots, the Sanctuary was becoming a bit crowded. So we decided to move to a new home! Now you'll have a house and you will be able to expand it to accommodate more creatures.

Maena, the Trainer



Maena will have a huge importance in creating synergies between your creatures and boosting their abilities.


Also, you can use the dummies at her courtyard to test your creatures, synergies and combos!


Bellina, the Cook



She will help you to cook all ingredients that you collect on your adventures.

Baldin, the Shopkeeper



Everyone already knows Baldin. But the news is that he just moved in to live in your village!
