DevLog #7 Campaign Mission Variety
Hi! Today we’ll talk about the campaign. Previously there were only three missions available. Those who played the demo or the prologue surely remember the invasion of Port Moresby on the Coral Sea. You had to navigate around enemy strike groups in order to reach a strategic position and stop the enemy troopships before they invaded the island. A time game was challenging and provided some extra depth to the objective. It was not only about targeting and sinking enemy ships. Positioning and prioritising targets played a role too. We wanted to have more missions such as this one, but even more creative and fun. Let me tell you about a couple examples.
Sea Battle The campaign will be divided into four chapters. We wanted to end the chapter with a bang so one of the final missions happens amidst the entire naval battle. Dozens of ships on both sides fight each other over the large sea area. Your goal is to assist your allies and eliminate the key targets or provide enough firepower to tip the scales of victory.
In order to illustrate the progress, we implemented a mechanic which allows non-carrier ships to bombard each other and cause damage. The remaining forces on both sides are visualised on a two-coloured progress bar. Once any end of this bar goes down to zero, the battle is over and the losing side is considered overwhelmed and must retreat.
Rescue Mission What if there are people awaiting rescue, enemies are still nearby and we are the only major force in the area? This is the foundation of one of the missions.
There are lifeboats with people awaiting rescue around the map. They are running out of drinking water and strength to stay afloat. You can split your forces and arrange for rescue missions, but then you will become an easy target for enemies that may still be around.
DevLog #6 A Sandbox Mode is coming to ACS!
Response to Your Feedback In response to the community feedback, we decided to add a sandbox mode to the full version of Aircraft Carrier Survival. Apart from the historically inspired campaign, you will be able to fight over the Pacific without any restraints. The sandbox mode will allow you to take part in hundreds of small encounters with different objectives, enemies and terrain. You will be able to advance your Admiral and crew beyond the regular campaign progression.
Red Waters While in the sandbox mode, you can track the state of the war by looking at the range of Red Waters. It’s a new mechanic that we are sure you will have plenty of fun playing around with. Red Waters are parts of the Pacific currently occupied by the Japanese forces. You can expect missions on Red Waters to be more challenging and with more valuable rewards. Sailing on Red Waters is very dangerous - encounters with major Japanese forces are sometimes unavoidable.
The range of Red Waters will dynamically change throughout the game - your victories will influence the area and move the front lines in favour of the USA, while other events and failures will push it the other way.
Pacific Map Management The sandbox mode will feature a lot of gameplay outside of the regular battle map. A whole layer of additional management was added. You will have to plan the course of your strike group over the ocean with regard to remaining time, available resources, planes, people and many other factors.
See you later!
DevLog #5 New Carriers!
Hi! In today’s devlog we'll talk about aircraft carriers… literally! Up to this day, there was only one aircraft carrier available in the game - CV-3 inspired by USS Saratoga.
It only had two elevators, a relatively thin deck and not that much space on the island. Whether in campaign or in the Sandbox mode, you now can upgrade to CV-5 and later on to CV-9. Let’s talk about their strengths.
CV-5 Inspired by USS Yorktown - a magnificent weapon of war - modernized and upgraded in almost every aspect when compared to the CV-3. Upgrading to CV-5 in the game gives a lot of benefits: Additional aircraft elevator ensure much faster deployment of planes New Island room grants access to three game-changing switches A bunch of minor but useful upgrades!
CV-9 An Essex Class inspired colossus. Upgrading to this one enables you as an Admiral to dominate the ocean. CV-9 is better in almost every way than its predecessors, but not for free. The maintenance needed for this beast of a carrier is enormous. Make sure you have a lot of crew teams available and your damage control tactics are on point!
We won’t spoil all the fun by listing out features through. Get it in the game and see for yourself!
Dev log #4 - Crew Management and Defence
Crew and Defence In this dev log, we will take a look at the crew members working on your aircraft carrier and how to manage them. These people keep your entire operation running, but assigning them to do the right tasks will make a huge difference in how quickly things are done on the ship. We will also go into the topic of defence - a crucial tool in preventing damage from oncoming attacks.
Crew Management Managing crew is simple - in the crew management menu, you will see crew units, represented with portraits. Each unit consists of about 100 men. As long as these units are healthy, you can drag and drop them to assign them to different department slots. Each unit provides efficiency to their department, and each department is responsible for different functions. Assign units to the departments where you want the biggest boost, but keep in mind that they will need time to transfer to a new department - so plan ahead! In addition, each unit has specialties that will impact how big of a bonus their department receives. Some units are better suited for specific departments, and some of them prefer to work alone or in a full team.
In addition, each unit has specialties that will impact how big of a bonus their department receives. Some units are better suited for specific departments, and some of them prefer to work alone or in a full team.
Defence Preparing the carrier’s defences in time is the key to surviving enemy attacks. The amount of defence points your fleet has at the moment of attack is compared to the enemy’s attack power. If you match it or exceed it - you’re very unlikely to take damage. But, if your defence is lower than the attack power, you better brace for impact - things are about to get dangerous! Your defence points can be increased in several ways.
You can assign crew units to man Anti-Aircraft Gun stations, just as you would any other department. The number of slots available in the AA section depends on how well your carrier is equipped - you can upgrade your ship to add more of them. With a well-prepared AA section, enemy planes will have a much harder time hitting your carrier.
When preparing for a mission, you get to select the types of ships that will accompany you in your naval escort. You can choose to stack your fleet with Cruisers - each group of them will add defence points passively.
Another way to gain defence points is by using your officers in the carrier’s island. Assigning an officer to the Combat Information Center will provide you with a point of defense, but that's not all - you can also issue an order for your naval escort to enter defensive position, allowing better protection from attackers.
If that’s not enough, you can always launch a Combat Air Patrol mission - this way a group of your best fighter planes will circle the area around the carrier, protecting from attacks and keeping an eye out for submarines.
That is all for now. Keep an eye out for more exciting updates and news!
Happy Holiday's
We wish all players the best stats ever, the best crew and no holes in the deck, the ability to manage a fleet masterfully, and that every planned attack is crowned with success.
