THE GATEWAY UPDATE

A new update is... is... adequately and accordingly rolling in!
(Getting old...)

The main goal of this update is to improve the first 10 minutes of the game.



NEW



  • Amber’s Descent: A new Introductory Sequence is now integrated into the campaign.
  • Library: Both this new intro and the second animation “Spiral of darkness” can be accessed from the library if seen once.




IMPROVEMENTS



  • Introduction Part 2 “Spiral of Darkness”: Cut its length by 30 seconds.
  • ”Forging Beginners” Tutorial: Changed the lighting to be more colorful and atmospheric.
  • Amber’s Light: Made it more clear where to go for the first level. Navigation is easier.
  • Folk Forgotten: The two new music tracks now loop nicely.
  • Level: Reverted skybound to the non-christmas version.
  • Updated sprite for The Entertainer.




FIXED



  • Environment: Fixed an issue with Forge Nadir having multiple lights.
  • "Restarting.." text on pause screen was too confusing, so we disabled the ability to pause if the avatar is restarting.
  • Fixed an issue where the avatar would fall through Amber’s Light floor on a first playthrough.

BOUNCE INTO A NEW REALM



Cast aside the veil of ordinary reality, for behold, a new update unveils itself: "Folk Forgotten," a tale of ancient myths, hardcore levels and long-lost legends!



With this major update, you will be able to:

  • Discover a whole new world: Folk Forgotten
  • Uncover 16 new levels & 3 extremely hard levels in the Spire of Trials
  • Unveil new environments and music
  • Try many new pieces in the Atelier

  • Amber’s Descent: The structure for the Folk Forgotten Realm has been added
  • Amber’s Descent: Ambers Light intro area has revamped lighting and new decorations
  • Amber’s Descent: Added surge margins throughout the overworld to make it harder to fall off the world inconveniently
  • Amber’s Descent: Folk Forgotten NPCs have been discovered
  • Amber’s Descent: Overworld areas can now change the lighting intensity and colour, this leads to more ambience and customization per realm

  • Levels: 3 New extremely hard levels from Shallot God have arrived at the Spire of Trials

  • Pieces: Five more rocks with loose option
  • Pieces: Added 3 more grass hill shapes



IMPROVEMENTS



  • Visual Art: Improved sprites for Amber, Dew, Prism, Librarian, Custodian, Niece and Uncle!
  • Optimization: Folk Forgotten area will not activate / load from other reals to save performance
  • Amber’s Descent: Added a little pop-up to tell players that they can enable assists.
  • Amber’s Descent: Folk Forgotten dialogue improvements (Amber's rush, Prism in cage)

  • Pieces: show lift activation area in editor
  • Pieces: removed obsolete variant “dull arrow”
  • Pieces: Normal bubbles now have faces that blink when hit. Their highlight is now always on top

  • Levels: Primordial dream 2000 has been redecorated
  • Levels: Updated Unwelcome and added to Folk Forgotten
  • Levels: Updated Boxed In and added to Folk Forgotten
  • Levels: Updated Equity and A Dark Alley (visuals only)

  • Atelier: Block arrow buttons from moving the camera when the level properties panel is active
  • Atelier: Duplicate shortcut has changed to Ctrl + D and uses the copy logic to avoid some bugs.

  • Environments: Melatonin: fixed components and added depth



FIXED


  • Pieces: Switch areas no longer activate in the editor with loose pieces.
  • Hall of Portals: “My Levels” are now in the correct order
  • Fixed duplicate level IDs (Tower Achievement and duplicate medals bug)
  • Fixed Jellyfish bubbly particles
  • Fixed a null reference issue where Rotate on Beat was missing a parent
  • Prevented Flinger from activating while in the editor

Atelier


  • There is a new sign on the top left that says if you are "Testing" or "Verifying" a level.
  • You can now see the last 5 seconds of the player path - this setting can be toggled and is saved.





IMPROVEMENTS



  • Updated Levels: Equity, Evening Star (requires leaderboard reset), and Rescue the Prince
  • Redesigned Level: Paraflower Paradise by Shallot God
  • The initial dialogues for the campaign (in Amber's Light) have been adjusted. The Gatekeeper is now the first one.
  • The Hall of Portals is now accessible from Amber’s Light, as the gatekeeper alludes to it.
  • The Gatekeeper’s look has been redesigned.
  • Realms in the campaign now have different zooms (specially visible in Namu and Carnaval).
  • When playing a HoP level, you can now rate in the pause screen.
  • The Avatar is now less squishable by moving pieces.
  • Railing bridge piece now has a wooden sound.
  • When submitting a level, the dialogue now mentions the HoP.
  • Loose brick is now spawnable.
  • Move on beat continuous must be a variant.
  • Cleaned Bridge B sprite.



FIXED



  • All attacher pieces (Rotator, Path, Move on Beat, Rotate on Beat) now prioritize pieces in the layer that they are on.
  • Fixed an issue with dark levels appearing light for the first few seconds.
  • Leaderboards now don’t scroll if there are no more entries.

Patch Notes 17.0.6a

Gooooood day Dreamers!!



Here is a fresh batch of added, improved and fixed features and elements.



NEW



  • A new playable story transition has been added, the Descent! This happens before Amber arrives at the hub after her long slumber.

    • This new transition also teases a few new upcoming pieces..!
    • When coming from this transition, Amber will appear further up in the Overworld.



  • Magnus Splendor: this playable transition and the tutorials are now replayable from the Library instead of being scattered in the Overworld.




IMPROVEMENTS



  • All videos have been re-encoded for higher compatibility. This has confirmed fixing Proton/Steam Deck issues, and possibly a critical bug with some people not being able to start the campaign.
  • All Hall of Portals sections now have 10 levels (except for Featured, which keeps 7).
  • Internal restructuring to the game flow to better accommodate the new playable sequence and future developments.
  • Leaderboards now scale the name of long levels instead of cutting it off.
  • The Garden's features will all be progressively integrated into the rest of the game instead of being their own separate thing.
  • Atelier: the center grid-lines are bolder, and the whole grid now expands to 1000x1000.
  • Exit key arrows now appear behind the game timer.
  • Improved the thumbnail for the level Debris.
  • Light Blocks, Crystals and Pendant Lamps can now be colored.
  • The Evening Star difficulty label has been upgraded to Wicked. These are relative for now.




FIXED



  • Atelier: fixed a bug that made the panning tool bounce from the edges if the cursor was on top of a selected piece.
  • Atelier: fixed returning to the editor after level submission.
  • Atelier & Adventure: fixed a few endless loops due to the new navigation system.
  • Avatars: fixed Dew Avatar not interacting with Flingers.
  • Avatars: fixed Dew Avatar for Autumn appearing temporarily.
  • Campaign: fixed a bug when exiting Amber's descent from the avatar area causing bad issues when returning.
  • Pieces: the Fluff now has better bounding boxes.
  • Pieces: suspension bridge is now longer affected by Flinger.
  • Fixed: leaderboards still submitting on HoP levels using the Coal Avatar.
  • Fixed: tutorial bug/crash caused by the new zoom system.
  • Hall of Portals: fixed a critical navigation bug when moving pages.
  • Level unlocking sound is now properly scaling with the SFX options slider.
