Arcane Vale game launch crash hotfix

Hiya guys,

A quick hotfix to address an issue introduced in the 0.1.6 release which would cause the game to crash on launch for some users when a gamepad was detected. Thank you to everyone who reported the issue on the forums/discord and for Mondseele for testing it with me.

Hello adventurers!

Just a small patch today to address a few small bugs that were reported over the past few weeks and add some quality of improvements to Arcane Vale!

• Added improved out-of-bounds checks to several maps
• Fixed 'pickup' text for potions and bottles
• Fixed a bug that would not let you drop items you were not high enough level to use them
• Fixed a rare sound bug when hovering over the hotbar
• Added steam deck keyboard input functionality
• Added cabbage seeds to farming store inventory
• Destroying a wooden gate now returns the correct item
• Added new 'gore' option to the game settings (disables blood effects)
• Fixed shop bug that would take an additional item when selling 2 of 3
• Improved textbox scaling across multiple resolutions
• Quest items are now sorted to the bottom of the inventory rather than the top
• Fixed a bug that would mean you lost the pet wolf cub when choosing another pet

With the games launch on Switch finally complete I am now turning my attention back to adding new content to the game in future patches!

Arcane Vale 0.1.5 is now live on Steam!

Hello adventurers!

Just a small patch today to address a few newly reported issues and add a few quality of life changes. There has been alot of work going on behind the scenes and cant wait to show you more in future updates.

I am also happy to announce Arcane Vale has been approved for release on Nintendo Switch and will be coming out in a few months!

Also, trading cards have been released! This was a few weeks ago, but I never got to officially announce it. I was really excited to see the option had been unlocked for Arcane Vale to add community items and think they came out looking great!



Bug fixes -
• Fixed Milad dialogue selection bug
• Fixed Witch’s potion remaining in inventory after quest complete
• Fixed bug when speaking to Dennis that would allow you to repeat the warden distraction dialogue
• Fixed virtual keyboard on touchscreen devices not appearing
• Hotbar can no longer be activated during cut scenes
• Fixed switch double click sound when selecting character on gamepad
• Fixed rare bug with item unlock screen sometimes glitching when using workbenches
• Fixed bug that could cause you to lose the cat pet when taming another pet
• Fixed minimap diagonal movement on gamepad sometimes not working correctly
• Quest items are now sorted to the bottom of the inventory rather than the top

21x9 Resolution –
• Fixed Character creation name offset
• Fixed crafting requirements offset
• Fixed hotbar durability inventory off

Localization –
• Fixed several missing texts

Arcane Vale 0.1.4 is now live on Steam! New hotbar system + equippable ammo

Hello adventurers!

I am extremely happy to be moving version 0.1.4 from testing to live today! This update includes the highly requested hotbar system, a new dedicated ammo slot in the equipment screen, and several bug fixes.

New hotbar system -

By far the most requested addition since launch has been a hotbar. When designing the game I chose against adding one, but now that it is added and feeling good, I cant imagine it without one!



Items can either be dragged into the hotbar or added directly from the item-info screen. Once they are in the hotbar they will highlight then they are equipped, track durability and item count.

Dedicated ammo slot -

Your ammo of choice can now be equipped rather than the first projectile in the inventory being used. This should make it far easier to choose the right ammo for each fight!



Additions –

• Added new hotbar system (keys can be rebound in the game settings)
• Added ammo slot to equipment screen
• Added default language detection on initial game load
• Added new item equip sounds
• Added campfire to the workbench

Localization –

• Brand new simplified Chinese translations!

Fixes –

• Fixed language selection flags offset on 21:9 resolutions
• Fixed bug with fired projectiles sometimes vanishing when pausing the game
• Fixed character deletion button offset on 21:9 resolutions
• Removed equip option from stocks key
• Fixed gamepad slider visual glitch on mobile devices
• Fixed gamepad visual glitch when changing from 16:9 to 21:9
• Fixed bug when pausing the game quickly after attracting an item which could cause it to fly far away
• Fixed Ballian returning from a task visual glitch
• Fixed glowstick missing description in discovery items
• Fixed boss health bars sometimes flickering during fights
• Improved AI pathfinding when retreating
• Fixed bug when dying on the arena start point which could restart the battle

Balance changes –

• Reduced fiddlers attack range by 25%
• Fiddler will no longer respawn

Arcane Vale - Improved save redundancy system!

Hello Adventurers!

Todays update features an improved redundancy system for save files. This new system will now detect corrupted save files on launch and attempt to restore a known, safe version from a local backup. A user reported on the discussion board earlier this week about loosing their save after a power outage; this system should prevent that in the future.

There is also a few small changes included -

Fixes -
• Fixed rare bug when closing the game during a boat journey which could make you temporarily spawn in the water
• Fixed black bars during opening scene when looting chest while mother was walking
• Fixed john cinematic item unlock breaking the cinematic

Localization -
• Fixed overhead textboxes sometimes going to two lines in some languages
• Fixed Chinese hover items not always respecting new line height

Additions -
• Added wooden club weapon sprite and sounds

QOL changes -
• Weapon angles now reset during cut scenes

Arcane Vale 0.1.3 Additonal changes & improvements

Hello Adventurers!

Just a small update today to address a few recently reported bugs aswell as some nice quality of life changes!

Fixes -
• Fixed bug with 'Spider Killer' achievement not unlocking correctly
• Fixed a glitch that could potentially spawn multiple horses when riding fast
• Fixed some clay tiles sometimes showing incorrectly as black
• Fixed a rare bug that could cause some NPC's to de-spawn
• Fixed bug with john rescue cinematic which could hide the GUI after playing
• Fixed a bug which caused the dragonhide armor to lose some fire resistance when upgrading

QOL Changes-
• Upgrading an item now repairs it's durability
• Chests that were not placed by the player are now destructible
• Reduced bed hitbox so it is harder to accidentally click it
• Improved wooden fence and stone wall collision masks
• Improved entity follow speed

Localization -
• Fixed some NPC names being missing when changing languages during gameplay
• Added a few missing UI translations
• Fixed a few newly discovered spelling mistakes

Arcane Vale 0.1.3 is live on Steam - Improved collisions, bug fixes and more!

Hello Adventurers!

I am extremely excited to push Arcane Vale 0.1.3 from beta to live. This update features a completely new, and improved collision system for the game, which makes navigating through forests much easier!

Here you can see the new collision system in action, sliding off terrain and objects (Thank you Splattercat for pointing it out!)





Also included are some improvements to the farming system, specifically the hoe, which can now be used to transform farm dirt back into grass!



Here is the full list of changes -

Changes & additions –
• Implemented 'slippery' collisions - Improve collision/slide off stuff
• Large chests can now be unlocked and crafted at the workbench
• Town guards will now more actively hunt and kill any monsters that enter town
• Added region names to the map
• Added new goblin worker animations
• Banners can now be picked up
• Using the hoe on farmed dirt will now revert it back to grass
• Removed weapon slash effect from woodcutting axe
• Increase cull range of solid objects slight to prevent NPC's bypassing fences

Bug fixes -

• Fixed a bug which would allow you to loot multiple ancient artifacts at once
• Fixed visual glitch when riding horses over fire
• Fixed a bug which would cause Andy to get stuck during the 'Teach a man to fish' questline
• Fixed repairing items sometimes causing the item to lose its upgrades
• Fixed a rare bug which could cause the sprinkler to randomly stop working until the game was reloaded
• Fixed crash when killing sharks in the ocean
• Fixed 'Over the hill' quest reward taking 300 gold instead of giving it
• Fixed visual glitch when using hoe on some tiles
• Fixed bug which would allow you to enter the pirates cove while mounting without the correct attire
• Sleeping bag now correctly draws player sprite

Localization -
• Several missing translated texts have been added, some new spelling mistakes fixed

Balancing –
• Increased Compsognathus level from 3 to 5

Temporary changes -

• Temporarily changed the condition of the ‘Orcish invasion’ quest to allow hand in without Magub’s hand. Investigating why it is going missing sometimes.

Arcane Vale 0.1.2 Improved German localization, minor changes and improvements

Hello adventurers!

This small patch aims to fix a few new bugs you reported aswell as a few quality of life improvements and balancing changes. It also features a complete overhaul of the German localization by fellow player GGFinkler, who spent several days checking and improving the localization.

Here are the key changes -

• Improved German localization
• Attack speed is now uniform when stationary and moving
• Removed dock panels from carpenter’s table
• Removed call to post leaderboards
• Fixed inventory slot switch random crash
• Increased item types the compost bin will compost
• Increased base damage of Arcane Prophets laser beam from 6 to 10
• Increased Arcane Prophets stomp radius from 8 tiles to 9
• Reduced Arcane Prophets stomp cooldown by 2 seconds
• Andy will no longer hand you another crate of fish if you already have one in your inventory
• Improved pet name drawing
• Added animated/death state for desert mine barricade
• Wearing the captains hat is now enough to enter the pirate cove
• Inventory is now saved in-sync with equipment changes

Arcane Vale 0.1.2 Additional changes

Hello Adventurers,

Todays small patch aims to fix a few newly discovered bugs, improve localization support and provide a new chunk redundancy system!

Key changes -

• The house key is no longer required to enter the house after completing the 'A House for Sale' quest
• Added a new portal behind the player-owned house (only on new saves currently)
• Fixed several localization issues
• Translated all area names
• Improved button placement 'loot all' and 'sort' in chests
• Fixed player experience not being fully visible in some languages
• Improved item hover layout
• Fixed 'Fathers old pocket watch' item always showing PM
• Fixed bug when boarding the zeppelin mounted which would cause a visual glitch

Chunk redundancy -

The game will automatically re-acquire any malformed or missing chunks (deleted or corrupted)! This should provide some level of redundancy and also serve as a platform to easily add future content!

Arcane Vale - Version 0.1.2 is now live - Some cool new features!

Hello Adventurers,

Quite alot of balance changes and quality of life improvements today based on your feedback. Also, a good chunk of work went into fixing some visual/text glitches for Chinese users.

Bug fixes & Improvements –

• Fishing bait is now returned when moving away while fishing
• Fixed crash when talking to Giles and asking for a second training pass
• Fixed issue with some cooking items not granting cooking experience
• Changed burn chance on cooking to be purely by level not by food type
• Shops now display a little gold icon over items they are willing to buy
• You can now still purchase potions from Celeste even if you are on the vials required quest
• Pets can no longer be targeted by boss AOE attacks
• Fixed a bug when looting that fallen villager that could show pet text as well

Balance changes –

• Increase drop rate of golden squid by 0.5%
• Increased ghouls base level and health by 10%
• Increased the wolf boss base health by 60
• Increased arena champion base level from 35 to 45 and +2 base damage
• Increased Zolkill base level from 20 to 25 and base health from 25 to 100
• Increased Taskmaster base level from 22 to 30, base health from 75 to 125 and base attack damage from 2 to 6
• Increased Plague doctors base level from 12 to 20, base health from 50 to 60 and bade damage from 3 to 5
• Increased Arcane Golem base level from 75 to 80 base health from 120 to 250
• Increase Dragon base level from 60 to 75 and base health from 100 to 150

Localization changes –

• Chinese characters will no longer go outside the hover window area
• Chinese characters will no longer cut-off in the quest description field
• Chinese characters will no longer cut-off in the dialogue screen for some messages
