Halloween event

Hello mercenaries!

There's several pieces of great news in the upcoming Argo update I would like to share with you.
Immediately after starting the game, you will realize the biggest change from the previous version: There's new call for gamers - Monthly Challenge. The point is pretty simple: Each month there'll be one new challenge featuring one of the current game modes or indeed an existing one with preset loadouts. This scenario will only be available for a limited time and once finished, we'll announce the best players of the month. The best players will be rewarded not only with everlasting glory, but also with many cosmetic rewards (like unique ingame assets, weaponry, skins, etc) specially created for you. And for everyone else, there'll be another monthly challenge to beat them right next month ;)

The first and very special Monthly Challenge is tied to our Halloween event and is called the Witch Hunt. Witch Hunt is a Halloween themed asymmetrical 1vs5 game mode, in which one player takes on the role of Witch - a stealthy semi-invisible infiltrator tasked with locating and capturing three out of five terminals. This task is not made easy on him, as he is being constantly tracked down by the other players, the Hunters. The Witch starts off invisible, and is only revealed for a short amount of time when the player shoots his weapon. To help Hunters locate the Witch, they'll be informed periodically about the Witch's approximate location and will know whenever the Witch captures a terminal. Witch Hunt scenario should be quick and filled with tension, probably most enjoyed when played with friends.

Added to that, we've prepared unique Halloween assets for this event. There are stylish balaclavas, bandanas, a special Halloween version of offroad Jack O'Flame, orca On Fire or favorite weaponry - Mk-I EMR aka Pumpkin Pie, AK-12 aka Bloodstained or SPAR-16S aka Toxic. The assets will be available on the store only for a certain time - from the release of the monthly challenge until November 6th, so do not hesitate if you want to be part of it. After that period has ended, the assets are going to be available only via the Steam Marketplace. I didn't mention that yet? All the Halloween assets, and even things from the "I went to Cologne and all I got was this DLC" package, are now available on the Steam Marketplace. You may even sell items you no longer enjoy to other players. Why would you even have such items? You can win various packages in the monthly challenges, keep the best and share the rest.

I hope you like this news, now stop talking and get yourself prepared for the best Halloween hunt :)
I can't wait to see you ingame, witches and hunters!

DevBlog: Letter of Introduction

Hello Mercenaries,

For these past months, I had the opportunity to watch over you guys, our community and it was an amazing experience. You inspired me, made me laugh and, admittedly sometimes made me want to punch some of you guys in the face :D.
They say all good things must come to an end, but I would say this is more like a new beginning. My focus will now shift to another project and I was always more of a community ninja, than manager anyway. I also believe Argo deserves to have itss own dedicated community manager. So let me introduce to you guys, our new Community Manager, Hana Zelená. She will briefly introduce herself in the paragraph below, so if you're interested please read on. Also just to let you know, it's not like you won't see me any more after this post, I'll still be here to help Hanka whenever she needs it, although I'm confident I won't be needed for very long. I don't have much more to say, but a request: Be nice to her! I know how you can get. :D

So long. We'll see each other on the battlefield.

Lada Brabcová also known as ITokyYourCookie (Argo Producer)

(Thanks Seddrik for this lovely art)

Hello respected community,

Thanks a lot Toky for introducing me.
I´m looking forward to being as helpful as she always was and I wish to build warm relationships with all of you.
I'll do my absolute best to get up to speed with things, and as part of that, I'm eager to learn how the game is played.
I'll be very pleased If you may help me and I also encourage you all to help out other players with questions about the game.. I'll be here for you, helping, listening and learning everything about you and our awesome game.

Together we can do it ;)

#GGMoments Contest Announcement

Salut mercenaries,

We're happy to announce our second contest! This time it's all about capturing the perfect Argo moment, and you're all invited to participate. We can't wait to see your #GGMoments!

Over these past few months, it's been my honor to watch over all of you, our community, and during that time I couldn't help but notice all of the amazing Argo-related videos. Whether these were reviews, guides, or simply highlights of skill, it made me realize something. We have so many skilled video creators and passionate players capturing Argo gameplay, and this is something that should be seen and appreciated! For this reason we now created the Argo #GGMoments contest. As you will read in the set of rules down below, this contest focuses on rather short videos, such as highlight reels or funny moments, that we've all come to love from video clips on YouTube, Twitch, and other video platforms.

https://youtu.be/TobmjvRWEJQ

The Premise of the Contest:
Capture, edit, and submit a video of a funny, lucky, unlucky or skill-packed moment(s) in Argo.

The Rules of the Contest:
Before sending the submission, please read the full set of our contest rules here. These official rules tend to be a bit of a complicated read, so I will try to outline the most important parts:

  • Submission deadline: 17th October 2017, 09:00 CEST (GMT+1).
  • You can send as many videos as you want. If you want to update your entry, just send us the improved version again.
  • Please submit your videos to competition@bistudio.com. We can only accept entries that provide us with a YouTube link and a download link to the video from a web-based repository (such as Dropbox, WeTransfer, Google Drive).
  • The video must have a minimum resolution of 720P.
  • The length of the Entries should be 15 to 120 seconds max.
  • Please avoid intellectual property rights conflicts! (such videos will be rejected/disqualified)
  • Use only gameplay footage from Argo PvP or PvE scenarios.
  • If you wish to use music in your video, use Arma 3 or Argo soundtrack.
  • All video submissions which follow the rules will be showcased on our website.
  • The jury, consisting of Argo development team members, will pick the winners based on their highly subjective opinion.
  • The Winners of the Contest will be announced on 24th October 2017.
  • Last but not least, by sending us your contest submission, you agree with the contest rules.

The Advice:
Once you have thoroughly read through the rules (link to full contest rules), you will know what we look for, but also what may pose potential issues. Therefore, here are some more recommendations:

  • Even though the game has PEGI rating 16+ and ESRB rating "M", please try to refrain from using derogatory language or motives. If you're unsure whether something will be considered inappropriate, it probably will be.
  • Don't be afraid to capture bugs, if you encounter some which are exceptionally funny, we don't mind. (damn you ragdolls..!)
  • I can't stress this enough: avoid intellectual properly conflicts. From our competitions in the past, we know that sometimes even really good videos need to be disqualified from the competition due to this reason.
  • And what we are looking for? Show us how you experience Argo.
  • Side note: I really like those unlucky videos (airdrop deaths are my favourite >: D)

The Prize:
I'm happy to say that the winner of the contest will receive an awesome set of Razer gaming gear! With that kind of equipment you will have no problem dominating the battlefield and experience many more #GGMoments! Here's a list of the exact prizes:

1st Place:

  • Gaming Keyboard Razer Black Widow X Tournament Edition
  • Gaming Mouse Razer DeathAdder Elite
  • Gaming Mouse Mat Razer Gigantus
  • Headphones Razer Kraken USB
  • Argo T-shirt

2nd to 5th Place:

  • Argo T-Shirt

The Conclusion:
I am wholeheartedly convinced that you mercenaries, our community, will blow our minds with your creative submissions. If you're in any doubt about the competition rules or anything else, feel free to contact us on the above mentioned e-mail, or via our social media channels and forums. We'll be there to help!

Lada Brabcová (Producer, Community Ninja)

P.S. For those who are completely new to Argo, you're of course most welcome to participate in the contest as well. You can download and play Argo completely for FREE now on Steam! http://store.steampowered.com/app/530700/Argo/

Update 1.04 - Respawn Rework

Hello mercenaries!

It's been three months since Argo released out of Bohemia Incubator, and we've continued to collect your feedback and reactions to the game. Using your response, together with our in-game analytics data, we've made a couple of decisions to help us improve many areas of the game. One of these parts, however, remained in a sub-optimal state: the respawn system.

To go back the beginning, let us explain what was wrong with the original respawn system. Basically, you might have been experiencing some of these unexpected issues while playing Argo: you were suddenly 'naked' instead of wearing your loadout, or you started a match completely outside of the game area, or you even did not respawn at all in the Link game mode. All of these issues were closely related to Argo's existing respawn system. Fortunately, I'm happy to report that this old system is now replaced, and with the introduction of our new respawn system, much of this problematic behavior seems to have disappeared as well. In case you wonder what took us this long to improve the situation, it comes down to a combination of many small parts. Let us explain a bit further.
The original respawn system was made by Borivoj "Druid" Hlava some time ago, and was designed to be used for Arma 3. That meant that the system needed to be highly moddable and was pretty complex overall. While that worked for Arma 3, considering the fact that the game is very much based on community creations and supporting various game modes, it did not fit Argo that well. A custom-tailored system would be much better. So that's what we did. We spent the last few months rewriting the system for Argo with all the functionality necessary for its gameplay. That said, it's important for us to point out that we're also still keeping the old respawn system available for the various community creations (and our own Combat Patrol co-op mode), where it shines without any issues.

In any case, as the re-worked system was mostly done by Druid himself, he was able to use the experience from working on the previous system, and managed to build one with even better performance. That means optimizations across the board, and various use cases are now handled better. Ideally, you shouldn't be able to notice any difference if the system works correctly. As is common with supporting systems such as these, they should be rather invisible unless there is some imprecision. Still, there's a lot going on under the hood, and one of the bigger changes was to limit the dependency on user name space for getting the correct equipment and locations. The old system keeps all the information stored in local cache that may become corrupted by other systems, while the new one uses a specialized inventory function for that.
Of course, there were some funny moments while testing the new system. For example, our Quality Assurance crew suffered many spawn kills at one time because of two persons spawning in the same place. This was because, even though our game engine has a nice function to check for a safe spot to respawn, this was run on the client machine, which sometimes resulted in same results for two different clients. To solve this, we managed to create a new functionality to synchronize the respawn positions across players, which provides everyone with a nice feature as a collateral fix.
Hopefully, our testing of the new respawn system has caught most of the possible imperfections. However, as experience has taught us, only the full scale use will truly show us how the system performs in public. Therefore, we're calling all Argo mercenaries to try it out right now. We look forward to your feedback and we hope you will enjoy many more great matches in Argo.
See you on Malden!

Gamescom Update

Hello mercenaries.

We're glad to announce that Bohemia Interactive will be part of one of the biggest game expos this year, the so-called "Heart of Gaming" a.k.a. the gamescom trade fair in Cologne. Here, Bohemia will have its own booth (Hall 10.1), and although Argo will not be playable there, it's still a great opportunity for us to meet you. Some members of the Argo devteam will be present, and you're most welcome to stop by and ask us about the changes in update 1.02 and the future we see for Argo in next updates. We're always looking for feedback so that we can make the Argo experience even better!
Besides being able to meet us at gamescom, there's another benefit to visiting the Bohemia Interactive booth: we have prepared a small but special package of exclusive in-game content for gamescom visitors. You just need to swing by and grab a Steam code for free. The package consists of several appropriately gamescom/Germany-themed caps, balaclavas, and a bandana, as well as the option to use another vehicle in the Editor: the Strider (which is based on Fennek used by the German Army). While we intent to keep these in-game items somewhat exclusive, if you are not be able to visit gamescom yourself, there are still two other options to get the package. You may either ask a friendly gamescom visitor to get the code for you, or you may join the exclusive sort and support our development by purchasing the items in the form of a small DLC pack on Steam. However, note that this DLC pack will only stay on sale for the duration of the gamescom event (available from August 22nd until August 28th), and you will not be able to get this anymore after the event ends. Also keep in mind that all of the items are purely cosmetic, and the Strider can only be used in the Editor and not in the official game modes.

Size of the update: 1,3 GB

General News:
We added new package with exclusive in-game assets called "I went to Cologne Expo and all I got was this DLC". As the name suggests the best way to claim it is to come visit us at Gamescom. This pack will only be available to get for limited amount of time - duration of Gamescom.
We added some cool Gamescom graffiti to our playable locations, go check them out and feel free to Tweet your screenshots at us!
