Automobilista 2 2026 Development Preview

[p]Greetings everyone![/p][p][/p][p]Our 2026 efforts are already well underway, but there are still some weeks to go until the first major AMS2 update of the year; to help fill the gap and give some foresight into the road ahead, we wanted to present some reflections on where we are with it, how it has shaped our plans for the year and preview some of the highlights to be expected for AMS2 in 2026.[/p][p][/p][p]As you read this, please keep in mind that plans are always subject to change; the goal here is to provide foresight into the direction we are looking to take the game on, and inform some of the content and features we are planning to add for it. While we wouldn´t be presenting these plans if not confident we could deliver on them, there can still be hurdles that delay or outright prevent some of these from becoming reality; no assurances thus are given for individual content items of features, nor will there be a schedule for their inclusion to the game beyond the vague references made along this preview. So please take this for what is worth; if you ever decide to buy AMS2 or more of its DLCs, do it solely for the value it offers on the day.[/p][p][/p][p]With this little disclaimer out of the way, let´s look ahead and glance into what we are pushing to bring for Automobilista 2 in 2026![/p][p][/p]

Reflections on Automobilista 2 going into 2026

[p][/p][p]AMS2 is about to enter what will be its seventh year since its release in March 2020, having continued to grow in this time year-on-year and looking set to cross one million copies at some in 2026; these are not figures we expected to hit when we first started developing it - it may surprise even some of our fans and those who tend to read too much into concurrent player figures. Fact is that AMS2 has slowly but steadily been finding its niche, amassing a decently sized user base for a PC racing sim title, with the positive reviews suggesting the vast majority are happy with what they´ve got.[/p][p][/p][p]As is almost always the case, room for improvement still exists and it is what we are looking to explore; as is known from user feedback and backed up player usage stats, AMS2 currently appeals primarily to sim racers who don´t have as much time to dedicate to the hobby; those who might race competitively elsewhere and jump into AMS2 occasionally to unwind, as well as those who just don´t want the stress to do it competitively or as often.[/p][p][/p][p]As a product that´s not a bad place for AMS2 to be - it is indeed how it has continued to be relevant and made a niche for itself within an increasingly crowded market; as a middle aged guy with a family myself with sim racing as a hobby for 35 years who still digs the thrill of driving & racing virtual cars as realistically as possible, I also often struggle to find the time to do it outside development work and therefore prefer the little I get to be the most fun, with most choices for least hassle; no surprise then that AMS2´s design caters primarily to that demand. From a business perspective, as the entry fees are the same irrespective if users put in 100h into the game or 1000h, AMS2 doesn´t necessarily need to do more to keep doing the numbers for the remainder of its shelf life.[/p][p][/p][p]We aren´t ones to settle though - Reiza was founded out of the collective passion of a small group modders turned developers, chasing the thrill of developing the best sim we could possibly make; the business was built to be the means for that end, and 16 years on that is still how we operate. There is still great potential to be explored with AMS2 and plenty of value to be offered to our users, so we´ve elected not only to continue as we were but give it an even harder push in 2026, boosting the team with new developers in every front, gathering new licensing deals and renewing existing ones. With firmer commercial, licensing and development footings allowing for a better defined roadmap, the goal for 2026 is to build harder and faster on the foundations we spent the past few years diligently putting together, to retain what AMS2 already does well and expand on the areas it still needs to improve in order to bring more players in and keep the existing base even more engaged.[/p][p][/p]

Ever Evolving - AMS2 2026 Development Roadmap

[p][TAG-50][/p][p]As has been the case in most years so far, game updates should continue to come thick and fast, roughly one or two months apart from each other; the big milestone update in 2026 should be V1.7.0 towards the end of Q2, packing many new cars and tracks along with what should be some of the more substantial developments of the year - for Single Player gameplay, the highlights should be further AI race craft improvements along with adding the option for saving & resuming races already in progress (albeit with some inherent limitations); on the Multiplayer Front, the option to sign up and join Scheduled Races from third party services such as LFM and JR (already integrated and available externally with the help of SimGrid in our new Automobilista portal) will also be integrated into the in-game Lobby.[/p][p][TAG-70][/p][p]Several Quality-of-Life developments will be introduced throughout the year, including new UI localization options & improved content filtering / sorting options allowing users more resources to manage the ever-increasing (and sometimes even overwhelming) number of cars and tracks in the game in a way that better suits their preferences.[/p][p][/p][p]The overhauled HUD (available as a heavily WIP beta option in the current release) is expected to be feature-complete as of the next public release.[/p][p][/p][p]Further simulation improvements include more intrinsic tire damage properties, better wind simulation, and some other dynamic weather & track improvements.[/p][p][/p][p]Logistical realism options such as limited tire sets, tow & repair delays after incidents or breakdowns and limited spare parts are features we have been working on and off already over the past two years and which we will be pushing to conclude in time for v1.7.0.[/p][p][/p][p]Immersion features such as animated trackside flag marshals, dynamic crowd reactions and support for animated driver interactions are on the agenda.[/p][p][/p][p]Throughout the year we will also be expanding support for more diverse sets of technical & sporting regulations, including different qualifying and race formats, virtual safety cars, parc-ferme rules, ballast rules, a wider range of pitstop restrictions, additional championship scoring options along with support for inter-series class split scoring / leaderboards (particularly relevant for series such as Ligier European Series, Porsche Cup, F-3 and Lancer Cup in which two or more classes of cars with different specifications are meant to share the grid).[/p][p][/p][p]We will also be pushing to boost user customization options & improved modding support, including support for modding individual car performance (both as a way to better model various seasons in modding packs as well as producing bespoke BoP options for MP leagues), creating & sharing custom presets as well as championship files; as for mod cars and tracks, while users should not expect AMS2 to ever become a full-blown modding platform (given not only some of the game engine restrictions but also its very own design), we are pushing to remove or at least lower some hurdles in order to make AMS2 more accessible for creators of quality scratch-built content.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Finally, the big greyed out elephant in the main screen – the Single Player Career Mode is both what ties everything in the game in within this preview together, and is what requires everything in place in order to deliver the experience wanted from it; that is why it has always been planned to be the last big development for AMS2. There is some dilemma to balance – implementing career mode halfway through the planned features would produce an immense amount of maintenance overhead and lead to career progress constantly getting broken over the course of game updates; at the same time, the more AMS2 keeps expanding and evolving, the longer career mode gets pushed out, and we are aware that many users are anxious for its arrival.[/p][p][/p][p]Ultimately, there is bigger pay-off in delayed gratification here - it shouldn´t be controversial to suggest that a career mode with the game we have today would certainly be far more engaging than at any point in the past, and from everything outlined here one could expect that will be true again one year from now; some things are just worth holding out for.[/p][p][/p][p]We will cover more of the career mode´s design and how its deployment should pan out once we are further along; you may expect its implementation to take place in stages, with initial still planned for the latter half of 2026.[/p][p][/p]

Ever Expanding - AMS2 2026 Content Roadmap

[p][/p][p]Moving on to plans on the content front: AMS2 has been designed to be as thorough a motorsports simulator as we could possibly make it; how far that would go was “To Be Decided’ when we started and that remains the case today, the baseline idea which has persisted is to represent (to one degree or another) the most popular motorsports series from the modern era going back at least six decades into the mid-1960s, along with some of the most unique & exotic classes that albeit not as well known, can be just as instigating to drive or compelling to compete in and which expands the reach of the sim in exciting directions.[/p][p][/p][p]Regrettably, delivering such ambitious plan in full with the depth and completeness we all would love to see is technically and commercially inviable – it would take decades to produce, many extra zeros in our budget and the untangling of an impossibly complex web of third party IPs (many of which inaccessible or simply defunct); our rationale here has always been that even a partial strike ratio would already make for a very compelling sim, so that´s what we set out to deliver; as the years keep rolling and AMS2 keeps adding more dots to that timeline, a higher resolution snapshot of these six decades of motorsports history gradually keeps building up, and we find ourselves ever closer to something far more representative than we thought would be possible.[/p][p][/p][p]Let´s take a step back and make sure unrealistic expectations are not being fed here: out of the box, AMS2 will never quite assemble full 1960s Grand Prix, 1980s Group Cs, 2000s GT1s, 2020s IMSA seasons with complete grids along with a whole catalogue of regional series and everything that might, What can be done though – and what we have been steadily assembling for at least a decade already since AMS1 – is to build a parallel universe for these 60 years of motorsports history, matching the real one on many levels, resembling it in some and abbreviating it in others; this is the “AMS2Verse” you are already familiar with, mixing real and fictional classes, cars, tracks and drivers; this universe is bound to expand significantly this year, with many gaps being filled as it evolves toward a simulated motorsports ecosystem of unparalleled depth even relative to its current standard.[/p][p][/p][p]Be it with more historic formulas or touring cars, modern prototypes or classic GTs, extended karting & dirt racing support, we will be both expanding our current roster of classes as well as boosting the grid of existing classes with additional contenders; we will also be adding more circuits – both new, and historical variants of those we already have – focusing on those of bigger relevance for the series and classes we have in the game so that more of them get more thoroughly represented.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]At the moment the content roadmap looks roughly like this: the first update should feature a formula pack filling various gaps in our 2000s/2010s formula roster; from there we take a step back to complement our very popular 2005 Endurance Pack from last year with the second part of our Historical Endurance Pack; we will then travel way back for part3 to bring late 1960s Can-Ams and early to late 1970s Le Mans prototypes and late 1970s Group 5s, along with several circuits from that era; from there it´s a jump up a couple of decades for some 1990s British Touring Cars, back to 2005 for German Touring Cars and it´s finally back to modern times in order to catch up with as much as we are able in what we might still be missing in various fronts.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Do keep in mind again please that this roadmap isn´t definitive - things may and often do get shuffled around. The order of the factors though should not alter the final 2026 AMS2 product.[/p][p][/p][p]The way the content is delivered should in turn follow a more well-defined strategy, similar to what we has already been done in recent years: car packs centered around a given era or series, often accompanied by one or more circuits befitting that era or series, wrapped with a game update that brings features, rules & other developments that are pertinent to that era / series.[/p][p][/p][p]Given the items in these packs will often continue to involve various IP licenses, the paid DLC route is how we can manage to keep them viable; we do however have plans for more free base game cars and tracks in the mix as well.[/p][p][/p]

How can you contribute?

[p][/p][p]If you bought the game and are still engaged with it to make it this far, you already have; rest assured we have the means to keep pushing with our plans. If you haven´t got the game yet, doing that along with the DLCs that entice you should cover it – it is thanks to both old timers and their continued support along with influx of the relative newcomers that we still are able to keep up the pace and even shift up a gear at this point.[/p][p][/p][p]We are evaluating a couple of options to attend those who really want to take their involvement one step further as well as those urging for a “one and done” purchase option, including potentially re-opening the Paddock Club for new members – more on this soon.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]That covers it for this preview! We hope this has made you excited for the year as we surely already are.[/p][p][/p][p]We look forward to catching up again for more details on the first update of the year at some point in March![/p]

Automobilista 2 V1.6.9.2 Now Live!

[p]Automobilista 2 is now updated to V1.6.9.2, featuring a collection of further fixes & improvements to complement the latest update.[/p][p][/p][p]As of this update, the Racin´ USA Bonus Pack, the Nürburgring Touristenfahrten & Supercars Pt2 DLC content is restricted to owners of these DLCs or the packs / bundles that include them.[/p][p][/p]

UPDATE NOTES

[p][/p][p]IMPORTANT!: Users who acquired the Racin´ USA DLCs through 3-Part items rather than the full expansion pack should retrieve a Steam key for full Expansion Pack in order to retain the recently added Stock USA bonus content; please click here for a step-by-step instructions in how to do that.  If you already own the full Racin´ USA Expansion Pack, the 2020-2022 Season Pass,  the Premium Expansion Packs DLCs, or any of the Bundles that include these you are all set to retain the Bonus content - nothing needs to be done.[/p][p][/p][p]To users who might have observed a performance drop since the latest V1.6.9 release: we understand this could have been caused by the update adding the option to combine Supersampling AA with TAA, without that setting being properly reset in an existing user profile; TAA users who noticed a significant drop in performance (30%+) with no further changes to system or software since the last update are encouraged to check that Supersampling is indeed set to 'OFF' in the performance options screen if they haven´t done it already.[/p][p][/p][p]We have made some notable additional improvements to TAA since V1.6.9.1, including better application to vehicles, reduced shadow flickering, improved fence resolution and stability as well as reduced ghosting on gratings.[/p][p][/p][p]Further valuable improvements also to AI performance & overall racecraft on ovals, not just to the new Stock USAs but also all F-USAs and other tintops with oval variants also receiving a pass; worth reminder that as of this build, the only other classes that have designated short oval & speedway physics as well as AI adjusted for those tracks are Opala Stock 1986, Omega Stock 1999, Stock Car 2019, Stock Car 2020-2022 & Super V8; while take any class to race them on ovals, the experience will not be to the level of those listed above as of v1.6.9.2.[/p][p][/p][p]Still on the AI front, we have addressed an issue with AI blue flag behavior in multiclass racing where AI from slower classes would tend to slow down too much on some tracks to let faster classes by, actually making them harder to navigate on some cases and turning them into easy prey for the player when racing in the slower classes; for now this fix addresses the issue in more conventional multiclass combos, more "creative" class combos will be hampered by it but that will also be addressed on the longer run.[/p][p][/p][p]Finally, we have improved AI logic out of their pit garages all the way through the pit lane, addressing various issues of AI hitting objects, losing control or getting stuck in some of the trickier pit areas.[/p][p][/p][p]V1.6.9.2 CHANGELOG[/p][p]GENERAL[/p]
 • [p]TAA: Fixed TAA not applying to vehicles properly; Reduced ghosting behind vehicles in chase camera view, Improved stability and clarity of fences, Reduced thin object flickering, Fixed TAA relaxing prematurely with fast camera movement in VR leading to flickering and aliasing; slightly improved clarity, further reduced instances of shadow flickering; fixed dark objects such as windscreen wipers moving against a bright background causing visual stains with TAA enabled[/p]

Automobilista 2 December 2025 Development Update

[p]Greetings everyone![/p][p][/p][p]The checkered flag is almost in sight for 2025, but we are still pushing to the finish line in order to deliver our final update of the year![/p][p][/p][p]2025 was another exciting year for AMS2, and one of record-breaking growth for Reiza; to celebrate the occasion in style with all AMS2 fans and keeping to the spirit of the season, all the new content presented in this Dev Update will remain free for all users to try and enjoy through the Holiday season until the early days of 2026.[/p][p][/p][p]So let´s look into what is packed in this Holiday Special, along with some of the other highlights to look forward to in the upcoming release of AMS2 V1.6.9![/p][p][/p]

Adding the Touristenfahrten to Nürburgring 2025 DLC

[p][/p][p]Complementing our Nürburgring 2025 release from earlier in the year – the most accurate & up-to-date version of the world´s greatest race track - we are adding the one important feature still missing from that original release: the Tourist layout of the famous Nordschleife, accessible most of the year to the visting public. With AMS2 now supporting alternative pit garage paths split S/F timing so uses the “bridge to gantry” timing points informally used for visitors benchmarking their results we can also provide this side of the Nurburgring experience.[/p][p][/p]

Supercars Pt2 DLC

[p]For the ultimate track day experience one must have at least some of the ultimate track day cars; the experience of driving the Nordschleife might range from meditational to downright terrifying depending on machinery of choice - it is to expand on those options that we will be offering a new Supercars Pack, featuring the ultimate Hypercar along with three very distinct Supercars.[/p][p][/p][p]First and foremost, the Aston Martin Valkyrie – arguably the most hyper of all hypercars, with its screaming V12 engine with an additional electric motor delivering a total of 1160 HP, active suspension and active aero - all duly simulated in AMS2 - combining into a singularly impressive machine. This is one car that could be driven straight from the public roads straight into any track - and immediately obliterate the existing lap record.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]For a slightly less frantic but no less impressive drive, the Maserati GT2 Stradale, the high-performance track day variation of the Maserati MC20, capable of producing 500kg of downforce to keep its 645 HP in check, the sleek looking Stradale adds a bit of Italian flair to the mix.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The Audi R8 V10 GT is the choice for those looking to go extremely fast while still providing a level of comfort and control of a germanic high-end Sedan, with the beautiful melody of the V10 soundtrack ensuring a pleasant ride.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Finally for the old school types who think that cars ought to be manhandled to be driven fast and who don´t agree with gear shifting without a stick, we have some American muscle in the Dodge Viper ACR – the latest representation of the classic, still true to its design roots with a 8.4L V10 outputting 645 HP, with its Extreme Aero Package as we have it here it can also hold its own against the more modern cars in the hands of a capable driver.[/p][p][/p][p]The new Supercars and the introduction of the Nordschleife has also led to existing Hypercars and Supercars (which include modern icons like the Lamborghini Revuelto, Mclaren Senna and Corvette C8 Z07 as well as all-time classics like the Mclaren F1 LM and the amazing Ultima GTR) have also been thoroughly overhauled and brought up to par with the latest content, making up growing roster of diverse high performance Track Day experiences in AMS2 – to be driven at the Touristenfahrten or wherever else you may feel like taking them.[/p][p][/p][p]The new Supercars Pt2 DLC will sell for US$ 7.99 or equivalent local currency conversion.[/p][p][/p][p]Racin´ USA Bonus Pack[/p][p][TAG-102][/p][p]The next update includes some exciting new content that will at once introduce a complete new style of racing to AMS2, and also fulfill an old promise to expand the Racin´USA Expansion Pack – the Stock USAs are making their debut, inspired by three completely distinct generations of Stock Car Racing in the United States from the 1980s, 1990s and the current era.[/p][p][TAG-108][/p][p]Primarily built for oval racing, the American Stock Cars gradually grew more suitable for road racing as well, with the latest generation being equipped with a modern LSD and higher end aerodynamics; so much so that it could be taken to Le Mans and with a few modifications more than hold its own against the elite of GT racing – the result of the experiment you will now be able to try for yourself in AMS2:[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As the name suggests, this Bonus Pack will be free to all owners of the Racin´ USA Expansion Pack and all the bundles that include it.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

Formula Class Rebranding

[p][/p][p]Upon launching V1.6.9, fans of the Formula Reiza and Formula Ultimate classes should not be concerned about their apparent absence; these classes are still there but have now been rebranded as Formula V8 Gen3, Formula Hybrid Gen2 and Formula Hybrid Gen3 respectively as per the graphics below[/p][p][/p][p]Main reason for this rebranding is to follow a more cohesive standard in the naming standards Formula classes from the last 30 years since they each represent specific powertrain regulations.[/p][p][/p][p]AMS2 users may look forward to having the generation gaps made evident with this rebranding to be covered over the course of Q1 2026.[/p][p][/p]

Further v1.6.9 Highlights

[p][/p][p]Work continues on the ongoing HUD overhaul previewed in the last update; although it is unlikely that it will be completed in time we are looking into the possibility of providing a Beta option alongside the existing HUD for gathering user impressions before full integration of the new version.[/p][p][/p][p]We have another round of physics updates across the board coming with v1.6.9, once again primarily focused on further refining tires - specifically tread friction coefficients, hysteresis, thermodynamics and the effects from being outside the optimal temperature window in said coefficients and the tire wear properties. These refinements are similar in nature to the ones continuously delivered since the v1.6 overhaul released last year, but v1.6.9 packs the heaviest punch so far with the volume and value of the updates; they are “minor” in dimension but still provide another notable step-up in the quality of the simulation.[/p][p][/p][p]V1.6.9 also packs another round of AI improvements focused primarily on three fronts: AI first corner / first lap performance and dynamics have been generally improved; performance under hard braking zones such as chicanes and hairpins where AI in some classes could often still be a little tentative, in parallel to new logic added so that AI drivers may decide to brake harder in particular circumstances (when being challenged or challenging for position for ex). Further calibration passes on both car and track side have also been carried with various performane discrepancy reports getting addressed.[/p][p][/p][p]Further developments to be heard also on the audio front, with improved logic and effects for suspension / chassis sounds in steel frame cars.[/p][p][/p][p]A much-requested feature making its debut is the addition of a "free camera" option , to allow users to free roam the track (especially useful for video creators out there).[/p][p][/p][p]Some good optimization has been achieved for Temporal Antialiasing since its inclusion in the last update, with a new option added to combine both TAA with Super Sampling AA.[/p][p][/p][p]Another QoL worth of note is the doubling of custom championship template slots and single championship save slots.[/p][p][/p][p]Last but certainly not least, v1.6.9 significantly improves detection & display of yellow flags in non-FCY sessions and improve triggers for FCY in both road and oval tracks.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

Nürburgring 2025 & Nurburgring 2020 Overhaul

[p][/p][p]AMS2 is all about providing a diverse range of motorsports experiences, and it could never really deliver without featuring the ultimate driving challenge - the infamous Green Hell.[/p][p][/p][p]There was of course already an initial stab at the Nürburgring back in 2020 with the release of the Nürburgring Pack featuring the modern layouts; a couple of years later the Reiza track team revisited the Eifel Mountains, this time travelling back to the 1971 to produce the most detailed historical version of the Nürburgring, complete with the legendary Sudschleife , fulfilling the original DLC.[/p][p][/p][p]The plan however had always been to revisit the modern track at some point and give it a top-to-bottom overhaul, as the original was produced quite early on and it was based off a fairly rough mesh to begin with; we knew we wanted to do the track proper justice in AMS2; The reform to the real track earlier this year along with the renewal of our licensing agreement presenting an opportunity for fresh scan data, this seemed like the right time to tackle the Green Hell again.[/p][p][TAG-100][/p][p]Just like the 1971 project back in 2023, the 2025 overhaul proved especially laborious given the size of the track and the sheer amount of details in and around it; once again however our track team couldn´t help but go the distance, which result hopefully you all can get a sense for in the previews here.[/p][p][/p][p]The project basically covers two fronts, with the 2020 layouts from the original Nürburgring Pack receiving all the main terrain 3D mesh updates as well as some of the artwork development – the 2020 track update will be free to everyone who already own the original DLC; Nürburgring 2025 featuring all the latest renovations done to the facility as well as the complete art overhaul in turn will be sold as its own standalone DLC for US$ 7.99 or the equivalent regional conversion.[/p][p][TAG-110][/p][p]Two things that won´t make this release but that are still planned for subsequent updates for the track and the game are a "joker" shortcut" to skip the out lap, and a Tourist layout option so the track can be experiecend as it is by those visiting it in real life[/p][p][/p][p]Check this post in our forum to learn more about the differences between the 2020 & 2025 versions of the track.[/p][p][/p]

Multiplayer Revisions
