Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises To Be Published By Reverb Communications!

Animus Interactive Teams Up With Reverb : Publishing Deal Announced!

This week we’ve got some exciting news to share! We are delighted to announce that we’ve teamed up with Reverb Triple XP in order to bring Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises to even more gamers worldwide. With their help we can really get the word out and start the shindig with a bang on April 28th!

So, Who is Reverb?

The team at Reverb Communications are games industry veterans who work with indie games developers to bring their games to a wider audience. They specialize in seeking out games with excellent gameplay, creative design, and that elusive fun factor, playing the game alongside the developers until they know it inside out. They’ll help us with PR, social, production and distribution services, all of which will help make Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises the talk of the town! They have previously published titles such as Ark, and Rocket League.

Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises Goes Triple XP!

We are especially happy to have been chosen as one of the Triple XP titles, an honor given to only a handful of games every year. This recognition of the quality of Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises is a great boost to our team, who have been working hard for over three years to write the next chapter in RTS history!

Announcing Our New Monday Stream For EU Viewers!

Next week we’ll be starting a brand new Twitch stream for our EU fans! This will air on Mondays at 12pm PST/ 3pm EST/ 8pm GMT/ 9PM CEST. We look forward to seeing you there!

This Week

On Thursday, we took a look at changes to Houses, Archery Towers and a few game mechanics, and tried out some tactical gameplay. If you didn’t manage to catch the stream you can catch up here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11SvxTh-Ybo

So, What’s New?

Changes to Houses and Farms

The capacity of Houses has increased, so each House you build will now increase your Population Cap even more:

This should make for some interesting changes to early gameplay, as players can now recruit Peasants and Offensive Units more quickly.

Farm levels have now been removed, and all Farms remain at Level 1.

Using Archery Towers as Bunkers

The way that Archery Towers work has changed. Ranged Units placed within Archery Towers are now protected from damage until the Archery Tower has been destroyed by enemy troops, allowing you to use them as bunkers. We will also be updating Archery Towers to hold more Squads of Units in the very near future:

Ranged Units can now enter Archery Towers from any direction.

Incoming!!

Troops stationed in Archery Towers can perform three actions:

Archery Mechanics

Ranged Units in Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises have a High Ground Bonus that allows them to do more damage when firing downhill. This allows you to use the terrain to your advantage by attacking from high ground and and trying to force your enemy to approach you from below. The damage buff is now set at 10%.

Charge Damage Buffs

Troops charging towards an enemy and engaging them before their Charge timer runs out now gain a damage bonus, allowing them to do more damage to enemy troops when they hit them at a run.

Troop Formations and Combat

Troop formations are now available for all Squads apart from Siege Units. On Thursday’s stream, Knightmare and Indie tested out the Loose and Tight formations to see how they fared against each other, and had a lot of fun in the process! Tight formations do more damage to their enemies, but move more slowly and are more vulnerable to ranged and siege attacks. Loose formations can cover ground more quickly, and being spread out makes them harder for Ranged and Siege units to target, but they do not do as much damage as those in a Tight formation.

The way in which Squads of Units move and attack has also changed. Units now turn individually when ordered to rotate, and when a Squad engages, every Unit in the Squad attacks at once.

Program With Us Episode 27

Archers, Siege Weapons, Mine Placement and more!

Check out Episode 27 of Program With Us

Also, here is a breakdown of some of the latest fixes and changes in Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises

Archer Projectile Speed
When Archers were first implemented, they did damage immediately when they started to attack. This was not so realistic because an arrow takes quite some time to travel a long distance. Now, when archers attack, it takes the same amount of time for the arrows to travel as they do damage. This not only make it feel much more realistic but gives the other player time to move.

Mine Placement
Recently, placing a mine next to a resource was a bit tricky to get it exactly where you want it. With this latest fix, you can place your mine wherever you like.

Building Research Progress Bar
Now that we have research requirements for certain buildings, the graphical UI to show progress over time has been added.

Siege Weapon Accuracy
Siege weapons weren’t exactly known for their pinpoint accuracy so we simulate aiming by adding a UI that gets larger the further away that it is from the weapon to show the range of accuracy where the projectile could possibly land.

Siege Weapon Projectile Speed
Just like archers, siege weapons do not do damage the instant they start attacking, the damage comes from when the projectile hits the target. The code for this has been adjusted and you can clearly see the projectile coming at you before it does any real damage.

Program With Us Episode 26 Highlights

Greetings Avalonians!

Welcome to this week’s news update! If you missed last night’s Program With Us you can watch it here:

https://youtu.be/12p644gUcTQ

This week, PR manager Indie filled us in on the latest Avalon Lords developments, which testers can now try out in game.

Updated Farms

Farms no longer have to be replaced when they run out of food, which saves you having to rebuild them. Once a Farm has been built, it will produce Food as long as you have Peasants to work it.

Changes To Ranged Combat

If you were finding it hard to escape your enemy’s arrows and projectiles; good news! All ranged attacks now take a little longer to hit, which means that players who are on the ball will have a chance to move their troops out of harm’s way.

New Units In The Army Builder

Testers can now add the latest units to the Army Builder and try them out in Combat Mode. You can now add all Cavalry and Artillery units to pre-selected armies.
