Avalon: The Journey Begins

Update 1010 has arrived!

Heya spacefarers! Have any of you found the end of the universe yet?
If not I think this may help out a lot! Introducing Avalon v1.0.1.0! This is one of the most significant updates to be released for the game to date. The biggest and most noticable change is an added sector navigation system. Players can now purchase electronic sector maps at kiosks in stations. This allows travel to numerous sector types. A new navigation panel at top right allows players to select the type of sector to warp to. Checkout the in game Avalonpedia for more info on navigation. Another cool addition is not only can players find fuel canisters and/or supply pods in space sectors, but also energy pods! Full details on this update is listed below...

Sector Map Kiosk

Ok this concludes yet another update. As I normally mention, stick around here for info on even more cool things to come. I will be starting on the next update sometime next week. No ETA on that update yet but I will post an announcement when I have a better idea. Please send any comments, issues or suggestions to me here on the forums, or via email at contact@newhopegames.com Last, remember the Name A Planet Event 1 is starting on December 1st so join in!

Name a planet event 1!

Starting December 1st at 12pm will be the first name a planet event! It will run from December 1st through 12pm on December 8th. Anyone can participate regardless of whether they have the game or not. The only requirement is a Steam account to post in the forum of course.

The way it will work is participants will post 2 names each. I will be choosing 16 new names for planets in the game among the ones posted. Those who's planet name or names are selected will be mentioned in the game's credits as a special thanks. In the event of not enough participants, this event will be cancelled. If the event turns out good and we have fun I will do some more like it. So join in and post some names! It will take place in the forum at the link below...

Cheers and mark your calendars, December 1st! Oh and those who have the game, dont forget about the upcoming update. It's going to rock the galaxy! I'm hoping to have it up this coming weekend.

Hotfix v1006

Another update already?? Well, not exactly this is just a quick hotfx. The battlestations voice clip was being played over one another. I found this annoying so this hotfix is the result. Then of course I decided to add in some goodies while I was at it. Check it out...

Avalon v1.0.0.6

- Fixed battlestation voice clips to not play over one another.
- Mini map no longer shows while aboard an outpost.
- Fixed background bar behind scan screen on ship comms.
- Sylion cruiser and freighter graphics improved.
- Freighter has now changed to a supply ship.
- Added a Sylion tanker and agricultural cruiser

That's it, check back soon and cheers!

Update 1005 arrives on schedule!

Hey folks, here we have v1005! I managed to get it out by end of weekend so things went as planned. Somethings went better then planned and more things were added in, some I did not even mention in the preview. This is a fairly hefty update and the most noticeable difference is the self destruct system on the space screen. Also voice sounds have changed. Here are all the details...

Avalon v1.0.0.5

- Mining laser sound no longer plays when not mining.

- Alien and Sylion wanted levels now save properly when exiting game.

- Options settings now save properly when exiting game.

- Added message which appears informing player if creature destroys rover and kills crew.

- Added new space station.

- A man battlestations warning comes up when enemy vessels are closing in.

- Enemy ships no longer fire when out of range at far away distances.

- Self destruct system has been implemented.

- Added new voice sound clips for hull critical, insufficient energy, system failure, inadequate fuel level.

- Warp cool down period shortened from 10 sec to 5 sec.

- Jump and cool down voice clips have changed.

- Tokens when aquired, will no longer give 0 and will give at least 1.

- Enemy ship laser shots are not quite as accurate.

- Laser hits on player ship now explode at location ship is hit.

- More realistic explosion when player ship gets hit without shield up.

This is all for this update. In my previous announcement I mention the location map types. I am aiming for getting this in the next update hopefully within a couple weeks. Once I get that in it willl be an awesome addition to the game as it will allow travel to certain sectors. Until then, i feel v1005 is the best version of the game to date! Please report any issues in forum or via email, either way I will get it. Have fun and keep watching!

Lots of coolness on the horizon!

Rather the edit my previous announcement I decided to post a new one so everyone can get it. One of the biggest and best changes coming will be location map types. Previously there was only 1 map type but that is changing my friends! On top right of the space screen will be a new gui area. It will show several different map types. Players will be able to choose the sector type they want to jump to provided they have that at least 1 of that map type in their inventory. For example, if you are running low on food & water you can set your course to a service sector. A service sector will contain service stations such as docks or shipyards. This allows players to purchase much needed provisions.

Space stations and outposts will contain a kiosk or store that will allow players to buy and/or sell location map types. Some ships may give out these maps as well. In addition, boarding a ship will also give players a chance to find maps in lockers. These are just some of the ways to aquire these maps there will be others.

In the end this will be a great improvement to the game and it will allow players to venture much further through each journey.

I don't think this will be ready for the next update which i am planning on releasing the end of this coming weekend. I am going to aim for the weekend after if all goes as planned. Is this all? No there is even more! Going a bit further after the location map update i will be focusing on the ship com link screen. Adding characters for each race and setting up improved options for talking and negotiating with ship captains. Ok now is this it? No there is even more! Although its too early to mention any of it at the moment. So there we have it, stick around because some good stuff is certainly coming! Cheers!

Preview of next update...

Hello spacefarers! Just a quick preview of the next update so far as I work through it all...

Avalon v1.0.0.4

- Mining laser sound no longer plays when not mining
- Alien and Sylion wanted levels now save properly when exiting game
- Options settings now save properly when exiting game
- Added message which appears informing player if creature destroys rover and kills crew
- Added new space station

Thanks to Brian Rubin of spacegamejunkie.com for finding and mentioning many of the issues above in his let's play video.

Below are the things I mentioned last couple announcements ago that may or may not make it in for this update. I will try to get these in this time...

- Different types of sector maps such as service sectors, grand station sectors, and bountiful sectors.
- Sector maps can not only be given by ships or found, but also be purchased.
- Two new steam achievements, go postal and the butcher.
- Patrolling security droids on stations.
- A much needed self destruct button!

Ok that's all for now I will come back and maybe edit this announcment as I fix stuff and add more things in. As before somethings not listed maybe added/fixed. No exact ETA but i'm aiming for either this coming weekend or next, IF all goes well. I may release all of this in two seperate smaller updates.

Questions, comments or issues? Shoot them to me! Cheers!

Update 1.0.0.3 has warped in!

Hoot! Hoot! The update is here ^^ Right on schedule, ok maybe I got lucky or perhaps worked long over the weekend. A little bit of both stands true. So here are the details and read carefully, this is some "good stuff" folks...

Avalon v1.0.0.3

- Game no longer freezes when exiting stat screen etc while in derelict station.

- Aliens no longer spawn on top walls in derelict stations.

- Text no longer writes on top one another if planet is a gas giant.

- Improved tropical planets from space.

- Enhanced creature graphics, mostly ice planet creatures.

- Added new faction the Sylion and updated avalonpedia to include some info on this faction.

- When talking to other ships, if you get a diplomatic token and there is a wanted level of 1 or higher with that faction then the wanted level will be dropped by 1 point.

- When talking to other ships, if you press engage you will now get a +1 wanted level with the factions ship you choose to engage.

- Added additional button to give 500 gc to another ship to decrease wanted level for that faction by 1 and receive a diplomacy token in addition to positive captain relations.

- Added additional button for a cease fire by paying 2000 gc, which will drop players wanted level with that faction down to 0 regardless of how high it was.

- Fixed red crosshair wanted indicators to correctly show the level from 1 to 5

Ok so as can be seen here a lot has improved and fixed with the wanted levels. This makes some diplomacy possible with ships and factions. For more details on how wanted levels work see the faction section in the in game Avalonpedia. It's the 5th button from the left on the top gui that looks like a book. The extra things mentioned in the last update preview never made it this time. I felt the ship scan screen and wanted levels were more important for this update. So there we have it, this concludes the first update for Avalon full release. Still more to come so hey, stay tuned.

Also don't forget to check in the forum, I will be posting more links to episode 4 of yet another let's play video I plan on doing soon. ;)

Below are somethings that may or may not make it in for this update...

I may add more to this list before the update is live. Also somethings not event listed yet may be in next update as well. If any of you would like to add more to this list let me hear your ideas, i'm open to suggestions! Although I can't make any promises I can certainly consider it.

I don't have an exact ETA of this upcoming update but I am aiming for end of the weekend if all goes well. This is how I normally did it during early access and will continue doing it this way with full release.

Cheers!

Avalon FULL RELEASE v1.0 has arrived!

I'm very happy to say that finally after 11+ months of early access with numerous updates and patches the game is now fully released! A huge thanks to all who have purchased the early access version of the game and supported us along the way! This is the full product not the final product and this is only the beginning. A lot more cool features are still planned to come in future updates. So rest assured we are not going anywhere! The game will continue to be updated and supported because not only am I the developer but also a player of the game. We hope the game provides you all with numerous hours of enjoyment as it has me. In any event if problems are discovered, please report them in the bug forum or via email at support@newhopegames.com. Once again thanks to all and cheers!

Update 17 is here!

Hey folks, another update here. This one basically adds 19 Steam Achievements! Have fun trying to complete these achievements. Some are pretty challenging to say the least. I do not recommend trying to complete the dreadnaught killer unless you have a triple or quad barrel laser turret! Although the game had been extensively tested if any issues are still found please report them in the bug forum so I can fix it. Ok until next update, cheers!
