*** WISH LIST THE GAME NOW TO BE AMONG THE FIRST TO PLAY! ***

New game from PsychicParrot, My Nuclear Octopus

Walking into an amusement arcade during the 1980's overwhelmed your senses. The audio from every arcade machines screamed out for attention, each one fighting to grab the passer by, begging for you to feed it with coins.

[previewyoutube="e0xCaDwDEjs;full"]

My Nuclear Octopus is what might have happened had I been born a few years earlier and landed a job designing arcade games in 1984. It's loud, it's simple to pick up and it's tough as old badgers. The graphics are crunchy old sprites, something you might see in an old Commodore 64 game, a BBC Micro game or maybe even a 1980's arcade.

The logic is simple - you play for a few minutes, you get as far as you can, the game ends. Next time, you play again and try to beat your score. Somewhere along the way, the rest of the world disappears and you find yourself one with the Octopus, in some kind of harmony with the game as, for a short time at least, 100% of your focus goes into keeping back the marauders from another dimension.

Lose yourself for a short time, just like we did in the old days.

Wishlist the game now so you can stay in touch!

2.85 minor update

Hello to all of you axe-cellent throwers out there!

Hope you had a fun Halloween and that you found some time to try out the new survival mode. Halloween may be over, but the zombies will remain in the game forever! Today's update fixes some issues we've found since the last one and should help to keep that framerate nice and silky smooth. You may notice pretty quickly that the menu items for practice and survival have been switched around - that's to make it easier to get to those zombies and to make survival mode more visible. One other little addition is to allow navigation of the main menu using the trackpad or thumbstick rather than having to grab that lever. Hopefully that makes things a little easier for some of you lovely people out there.

Have fun!

Full patch notes:
Swapped menu targets for target practice and survival mode
Added left / right trackpad control to main menu
Removed some debug statements that could cause slowdown
Removed some rogue zombies that may have caused a small memory leak
Removed 'now with zombies' graphic from main menu
Tweaked wording on leaderboards and target range menu buttons/targets
Fixed 'Can not play disabled audio source' bug spamming the console in survival mode
Removed close off scene and 'next unlock' debug log messages

It's the big massive 'zombie survival' FREE update!

Hello again, you axe throwing superstars! Great news! The new zombie survival mode is here!

This is a totally FREE update. Just update the game on Steam (if it isn't already up-to-date) and you'll find a new option on the main menu to join zombie survival mode and get playing!

Here, you'll get to throw axes at the undead (don't worry, though, it's all in a very cartoony style that's unlikely to freak anyone out too much!) to see how long you can survive. It's high score chasing again, so there's a brand new leaderboard specially for survival. To start the game, use the lever on the main menu to move the menu two targets to the right .. and there it is! Survival! We really hope you enjoy this whole new game mode. The timing couldn't be better, either, with it being that Halloweeny time of year and all - makes this new mode the perfect accompaniment to your Halloween VR party! So, to all you axe throwers, have a happy, safe Halloween.

(Oh, just in case you were wondering - survival mode is now part of the game and will stay in the game forever, not just for Halloween!)

Thank you once again for all your suggestions, comments, support and awesome reviews! I can't tell you how much they mean to PsychicParrot.

Minor updates 1.91 and 1.92

Hello to you, awesome axe throwers!

Just made an update with some minor things in it:

(1.91)
Menu code updated (dynamic positioning making it easier to update in future)
Hit sound added to bonus Skelly bones
Fixed bug with rapidly looping Skelly hit sound on head and torso when axe rested on it or nearby
Tweaked center of mass to reduce impact
Put back the angular velocity to use median instead of directly getting the controller angvel (median reduces side wobble)
Moved game saving to a 'safer' place to try to reduce potential of save file corruption when closing the game down without exiting from the menu
Switched out the target on level 18 for one less brutal (distance vs. target made the level rediculously difficult!)
Un-stuck practice mode (!)
(1.92)
Corrected axe selection back target spacing

There's also a MAJOR update on the way - I'll tell you more about that when it's closer - so for now, it's just minor fixes and updates to keep everything running smoothly.

Have fun throwing axes (and hurry up and knock me off the top of the leaderboard, will ya? I've been up there for too long!)

Not sure where to start? Watch this video!

Here's a great place to start - an introduction and gameplay video from the designer of Axe Throw VR! Jeff gets to level 18 and shows off some of the new targets that arrived in the big massive 'Bonus' update earlier this week.

Bonus rounds coming soon!

Howdy, axe throwers! The next update will bring in a whole bunch of minor improvements and fixes, of course, but you're also going to see .. (drumroll please!) .. the bonus round! In the bonus round, there's no way to lose. Just throw and hit some balloons. You do need to try not to hit Skelly the skeleton, though, because he won't be happy about it!

Having bonus levels should break up the intense action of the main game a little, and that means we have to re-balance the difficulty, too. Thanks to your feedback, we know which levels didn't work so well and which ones did, so the reshuffle will include some improvements to how each level flows from one to the next.

I'm really thankful for all your feedback since launch and super happy to hear your reactions and enthusiasm for the game so far - thank you, axe fans! Really looking forward to bringing this update to you guys. No set timeline yet, but it should be 'soon'.

1.12a minor update

Hello again, you VR axe-perts!

Enjoy!
