Happy Love Day ❤️
Hello, our dearest Backpackers, and...
❤️ Happy Love Day
To celebrate this special day, we’ve prepared two little surprises for you. You can find them both while playing with our most charming character - Satchel!
Lovers’ Quarrel - a new sword tailor-made for Satchel, making his charm even more powerful. Romemole and Squirreliette - two new NPCs Satchel can encounter during his journey through the dungeons.
Celebrate Love Day with Satchel in-game all week!
Also, let’s not forget about our lovely Tote!
As promised, she’s a brand new frog, with 74 fresh carvings and a unique deck-builder playstyle. Give some love to this awesome lady, too, as she just made it to the main branch. We think Tote is in a much better place now, and we want to keep tweaking her balance and give her more unique items to play with. Give her a shot and let us know how she plays!
New Stuff Tote is a tote-ally new character! She has been redesigned with new mechanics and new items! Added a special event for "Love Day" - play as Satchel! Added in several new items
Changes Each snail now has its own unique appearance Tote's items are completely rebalanced
Bug Fixes Fixed an issue where your backpack could get frozen if you double-clicked an item Fixed several game-crashes that could occur due to events Fixed several issues with Tote's inventory
Major character reworks coming in February!
Hey, Backpackers! We’ve noticed that not too many of you name Pochette or Tote as your favorite characters, so we decided to rework them and make them more lovable for you. You can expect a rework of these two later this month!
After many team meetings, a lot of discussions and reviewing feedback from players, we determined that our goal should be to make the interface more clean and user friendly. We want to simplify both characters a bit, too.
Pochette
Our main goal is her pets. They will work more similarly to pouches - you’ll be able to open them and store items in them. Thanks to it, Pochette will gain more flexibility. This also means she'll have a larger and more standardized backpack of her own!
Tote
Tote will have illusory spaces removed. She'll get carvings more frequently and she'll need to use them more often to succeed. This will highlight her uniqueness and make things less confusing for you!
Come join the testing branch to see the reworked characters in action yourself and share your feedback! Tote should be available there sometime around the end of this week, and Pochette will join her after a week or two.
We're also thinking about some item reworks, but that's another story... 😉
Welcome, new players!
Hey, Backpackers!
It’s Steam’s Midweek Madness time – that means a 20% off deal, so if you’ve been thinking about adding Backpack Hero to your Steam library, now is the time.
Just joining? Welcome! There’s a ton of depth to unpack in Backpack Hero. Here’s what’s good to know:
Protip: Start with Purse
We totally recommend a few rounds with Purse for a smooth start – she’s where all of this started. All our heroes really change how you play the game and layer on the complexity, so take your time to learn the basics with this adorable packrat.

Backpack Hero was first released on Itch.io a year ago today! Over the past year we released the game, started a business, ran a Kickstarter campaign, released the game on Steam, created four new characters, added new levels and enemies, ran several events, added controller support, and literally hundreds of new items!
All of this is possible because of you! Thank you for supporting this humble little indie team! We hope to make Backpack Hero the best that it can be!
We have a small end-of-January patch with new features:
Changes: Ended the Winter event! Updated controller support! Works much better now!
New Stuff: New button to take screenshots. It's easier than ever to share your perfect backpack! Added eight new items!
As for what's next:
We're working on character redesigns for Tote and Pochette. We know that they aren't the most popular characters so we hope we can get them working much better! These will be released in February.
We are delaying the town update. It was originally intended to come out at the end of February, but it will be delayed until closer to the game's launch. There's just too much to do and we want to make sure we get it right.
We'll be posting an updated roadmap with more information, fun surprises, and upcoming content! Details soon!
