New Level Releasing Tomorrow, May 17th at 3:00 PM PST



We are super excited to announce a brand-new update that will change the way you play BET by adding a new "Journey" game mode and adding one of our biggest levels yet, Level 6. This update will be released tomorrow, May 17th at 3:00 PM PST. A full change list and announcement will be posted on release.

Why did we skip level 5? I've seen some confusion regarding the levels such as "Where is level 3?", "Why does level 4 have no monster?", etc. To give a blanket answer, these are all purposeful choices. We like to follow the Backroom's Wiki (The Wikidot and Fandom) in regard to level design choices. Each level may have multiple exits, causing a nonlinear style of progression. As we add more levels, this will hopefully make sense. We believe Levels 3 and 5 don't offer much of a unique experience. Those levels aren't off the table, there's just a plethora of other levels that are far more interesting.

While I'm here laying out plans, I wanted to give you all an update on the proposed Q1 roadmap. A lot of features proposed will be slotted into future updates. The player vs bacteria game mode however, will be put on hold for a while. Most (71%) of you voted in Discord that you would much rather more levels, so that's the route we are going to go. We have many new things planned and we are super excited for the future of BET. Thanks for sticking along!

BET 0.2.5.1 Cross Region Play Fixed!

One change here, a fix for cross-region play! (Hopefully)

I know in the last update I had stated things might be fixed. They weren't. I've spent most of the day today digging around in Unreal Engine's Steam networking code and found by default that it only searches for nearby lobbies geographical region wise. This is great for keeping ping low for public lobbies but bad when you want to join your friend in a different country. I've changed it to now search globally when joining with a code (When searching for a public lobby it will still only show lobbies in your region for latency reasons).

I unfortunately don't have anyone on standby outside of the country so I can't test this for sure. But in my developer view, changing the region search size changed the number of lobbies available to join so I'm 99% sure this is fixed. Be sure to let me know if this update fixed cross-region play!

Edit: Multiple user reports have confirmed this is fixed! Thanks for being so patient everyone!

Hi again! Here to bring you all some much-needed bug fixes, along with some balancing for our dear Scratcher. There are still a couple of bugs crawling around but rest assured we are working to fix them. This update fixes a lot of the significant game-breaking bugs as I have prioritized them first.

Changelist:

  • Fixed Smiler Jumpscare not Activating
  • Potential Fix for Cross-Region Play Not Working (Requires Testing)
  • Fixed Lobbies Breaking After all Players Die and are Sent Back to the Menu
  • Leaving the Game as the Host Will No Longer Disband the Lobby, Instead, it Will Bring all Players to the Lobby
  • Scratcher Will No Longer Camp and Eventually Lose Interest... They Always Do :(
  • Lowered Scratchers Hearing Radius by 10%

Hello everyone! Continuing with our eagerness to implement everyone's feedback, we have gone ahead and overhauled the gameplay in Level 4. There is now a new puzzle to be solved and all-around more polished gameplay. Big thanks to our new hire, Caleb, for implementing most of the puzzle's core mechanics. There is lots more to come, so keep a keen eye on BET's horizon!

Hey everyone. I have been closely listening to the feedback given by you all on both Levels and have been working to address some of the shortcomings. This update tries to balance the Scratcher by adding lockers for hiding along with other changes. Thank you all for the feedback and know that I take every suggestion seriously. I and the other dev I hired are working to bring new gameplay and bug fixes to Levels 2 and 4 so stay tuned!

  • The Scratcher now Screams Upon Seeing you
