Or, in case you have yet to try it, find out what we thought for you.

Here's all the news from our latest Christmas patch, available today on PC and soon also on consoles!

Gameplay improvements

  • Improved first hour of the game - following your suggestions, we improved the Oniric Arena both in terms of balance and in the extent of the proposed tutorials, which are now to a lesser extent

  • Improved impact intensity feedback of the combat system - in order to improve the visual impact of the combat, we improved the freeze hit both visually and concretely, to make the mob freeze for an instant after being hit; we have also improved the camera shake, the shaking that allows you to receive feedback when the enemy is hit; Sounds have been improved to enhance the SFX on impact. Added a slow-mo VFX at the end of a fight when the last enemy is defeated while in direct zoom camera on it.

  • Improved combat system - to ensure that you can ring combos quickly and avoid having to wait for the animation for the second hit, now the system remembers the keys you pressed before Avril can perform the actions. If you pressed dodge immediately after the hit that has not yet been inflicted, the system will remember the sequence you entered and execute the moves one after the other. Speeded up the first attack of a physical combo.

  • Pacing Improvement - to make the gameplay more varied and raise the level of challenge, we have increased the presence of hybrids, so as to increase the presence of mid-bosses throughout the game. We have also included hazards, traps that complicate exploration, including spikes that come out of the ground, flames that come out of the walls.

  • Difficulty selector added - to allow you to choose the degree of difficulty to face the adventure and adapt it in the best possible way to your needs and abilities, three different difficulty levels can be selected. Loose, Standard and Strict. Until now there was only the Standard one that allowed you to inflict damage even on enemies of the opposite nature to yours. Now with the other two modes you can decide how difficult to make your experience. The selector will activate after the third game mission, making the start the same for everyone.

  • Added indicator for earned endings - to help you better understand your progression level in the game, and also the endings you’ve unlocked, at the end of the game the system will clearly tell you which of the four endings you have unlocked. Furthermore, in the initial menu, mandalas will appear which will light up according to the unlocked ending, so as to let you know how many are missing and which ones.

  • Added indicators to enhance the choices - to underline the importance of certain dialogues and choices, so as to help you understand which are the narrative crossroads that will condition your story, we enlarged the texts of the "Important Choices". Added a specific icon in the important choices so as to better highlight the conqueror and defender path

Technical Improvements

  • Added frame rate uncap - to allow you the best possible experience and also the greatest customization from a technical point of view on PC, now you can unlock frames and also select v-sync on PC, selecting the limit of the framerate you prefer and decide whether to play with active v-sync or with variable refresh rate.

  • Added full 21:9 support - all resolutions have been added for both UI and scene rendering, now compatible with all aspect ratios on PC, both 16:10 and 21:9, in a range from 1280x720 to 3840x2160.

  • Added skip sequences - if you don’t want to listen to all the dialogues during the game, but only the most important ones in the cutscenes, you can now skip any sequence, except the game boot sequence the first time you start Batora: Lost Haven. The dialogues cannot be skipped automatically, but always manually.

  • Improved Steam Deck Compatibility - We have improved the readability of text throughout the game. When starting Batora: Lost Haven, the game runs in fullscreen mode at the native Steam Deck resolution of 1280x800.

  • More various bugs fixed
Rebalanced health and defense of companions in NG+
Fixed issues where the player could get stuck in some game environments
    Improved NPC spawn animations
The game automatically launches in Windowed Fullscreen when on Steam Big Picture Mode

In the next few days we will provide you with more details regarding the main innovations listed in this patch note, so that we can accompany you on a journey to discover Batora: Lost Haven!

How we created Lunisolar Precession

Nothing in the creation of a video game is random.

Behind every choice, behind every action performed by our protagonist, there is a design reasoning.
This also applies to Avril's most peculiar moves, such as the Lunisolar Precession.

The astral form of Moon and Sun orbit around Avril to assist her in fight: equip the Aeternal Seeking rune, spend one Combo Point each Nature to summon the power of Moon and Sun. They will heal you and fight anyone that comes close with their immense power!

This is the explanation we used in our tutorial to explain how to use the most powerful among Avril's moves, which brings together the power of the Sun and the Moon to unleash an ancestral force capable of routing opponents and giving in Avril also an energy recovery. But what exactly is the Lunisolar Precession?

The movement of Sun and Moon

We were inspired by the precession of the equinoxes, also known precisely as Lunisolar Precession. It is the displacement of the axis around which the Earth makes its daily rotation: the cause of the displacement is precisely the combined gravitational attraction of the Sun and the Moon, which causes a slow thrust on the rotation axis creating an oscillation in about 25,800 years.

The Lunisolar Precession in Batora: Lost Haven is an ability that conveys both powers and that we wanted to represent with the motion of two spheres around Avril, which becomes our pivot, our Earth that prevents contact between the Sun and the Moon. In addition to being a spatial movement, for us, an Italian team that’s very attached to the literature of our country, it also represents a quote from Dante, about two identities that attract each other, but never manage to reach each other.

The romantic point of view

Dante Alighieri, the author of the Divine Comedy, called this phenomenon the “motion of the eighth sphere” and spoke of it in his masterpiece, citing a phenomenon capable of reversing the fleet of stars and bringing our world, infirm, back to its primitive condition, capable of producing the "true fruit". A concept full of romanticism also enriched by the meaning of the rune itself, Aeternal Seeking, inspired by another verse by Dante from the Divine Comedy: "Love, which permits no loved one not to love", one of the most famous verses of the poem and of all Italian literature.

The verse tells the poignant love story between Paolo and Francesca. Even in Hell, they are forced to chase themself to express their love: they fly like birds in the air, twirling around themselves without ever being able to touch each other.
Paolo and Francesca were killed when her husband discovered the feeling that her wife developed for Paolo: she could not be married or love anyone but her husband; however, it is her own love that compels her to do so, and reciprocates Paolo's sincere sentiment.

This is the romantic effort that we wanted to pour into the experience of Batora: Lost Haven, to enrich Avril's adventure with a narrative element that hides lore ready to be explored, drawing inspiration from our Codex and the narrative plot we have created for our first action RPG.

Vote for Batora: Lost Haven at the Steam Awards!

With the start of the autumn sale on Steam it's also time to vote for the Steam Awards. And the jury, this time, is you!

We worked from day one on the search for a visually distinctive style that could be remembered over time, without aging with the technological advancement of game consoles.

Our goal was to give the various planets in Batora: Lost Haven's universe a unique sense of depth and vividness through the use of high-contrast colors, complementaries and a color harmony always related to the biomes of the planets.

We started from the concepts, trying to find the right silhouettes and shapes, we chose to exaggerate the human figure, giving more strength in the upper and lower limbs, so as to give greater anatomical and performance capabilities, we also tried to exaggerate the proportions of the angles of each object, the rocks, trees, houses. all the intersections were exaggerated to give an organic sense even in the inorganic things.

We took inspiration from the graphic arts of the past, especially Paul Lehr’s Retro Sci-Fi Art of the 1950s, and Alphonse Mucha’s Art Nouveau. We wanted to represent colorful, mesmerizing worlds, each with its own distinctive identity, with an intriguing world-building.

The work done in creating such a visually recognizable universe made Batora: Lost Haven a candidate for outstanding visual art category.

And now we need your support to achieve this goal, together.

Vote now Batora: Lost Haven in the outstanding visual art category!

Revolutionize your Autumn with Batora: Lost Haven

Autumn is the season of fallen leaves and cozy sweaters… How cool would it be to revolutionize it with an interplanetary adventure?

We’ve got you covered, because with the Steam Autumn Sales, you can now get Batora: Lost Haven with a 20% discount on the final price!

Take advantage of this opportunity and start your journey through 4 different planets, 4 different endings and many choices to take, to discover how many ways multi branching can change your history, in any season, on any planet.

The discount will end on November 29th: don’t miss this chance to become the Keeper of Balance!

Don't settle for a run: jump into the New Game+

The story of Avril does not stop at the first run: the multi branching allows you to go and discover everything that Batora: Lost Haven can give you!

Let's start by saying that once you have finished your first run and defeated the final boss, which will be different depending on what you have chosen to do during your adventure, the New Game + will be unlocked in the main title.

New Game +, what do you bring with you

Batora: Lost Haven will start from the beginning and give you the chance to make the choices you didn't make in your first run. The UI will also come to meet you by indicating the choices you have decided to take earlier, so as to suggest what to do to change the course of events.

In this new adventure you will keep your level and take with you the runes obtained from the quests, but not those that can be purchased in the shops. All skills will be unlocked immediately, which allows us to increase the level of difficulty.

In the event that you have reached the final boss by reaching the level cap of 25, in the New Game+ you will have the opportunity to reach level 30, with the progression that will be optimized and slowed down compared to the first run. All mobs will follow your level, so as to adapt the level of challenge and avoid that you can find yourself being too performing compared to your opponents.

The functioning of the runes in the NG +

Starting the New Game + with all the skills available and also all the rune points on your side (do you remember how the rune system works?) will be useful to go to work on an optimization speech of your build, enhancing Avril with some tweaks which will be fundamental to face the second run.

So if, for example, you have equipped a rune that increases the attack value by two points, but you still have some rune points to spend, you can buy the one that gives three more points of attack and equip it.

We remind you that Batora: Lost Haven has two different final bosses, depending on your choices, and two crossroads choices for each planet: there are 4 endings in total and it is up to you to discover them all, to be able to truly consider yourself completists of the universe of Batora: Lost Haven.

Improvements available in the new Batora: Lost Haven patch

We promised you that we would continue to work to make Batora: Lost Haven even better and follow all your directions to thank you for your support, listening to your feedback, which has been essential to improve the gaming experience.

Here we are, then, ready to announce a patch that will allow you to live an ever better gaming experience and continue enjoying Batora: Lost Haven in the best possible way.

  • "Meaningful choices" are now clearer - from the point of view of the UI we have inserted a golden halo to better identify the narrative junctions during which to make key decisions for the continuation of the story. The golden halo will begin to pulsate when one of the two choices you are going to make will prove to be fundamental for the development of the plot of your future.

  • Improved Achievements / Trophies obtaining - on Xbox it is now possible to correctly unlock Queen of Greenfield Achievements; on PlayStation 5 we have improved the localization of the activity cards in Italian.

  • Improved performance and stability on Consoles and PCs - we have reduced the possible crashes of the game by increasing the stability of the build, in addition we have also reduced the possibility of running into blocking problems that could compromise the fluidity of the game. From a performance point of view, we have made the framerate more stable.

  • Improved the input of the controls when playing with gamepad - We changed the default key mapping that allowed Avril to interact with the environment, so as not to interfere with other game mechanics. Now the interaction takes place with the Square button on PlayStation and X on Xbox, while it was previously located on Triangle button on PlayStation and Y on Xbox. The possibility remains for the players to remap the keys and choose the preferred combination. Also in this area we have improved the auto-aim, to allow you to have a better assisted aim in hitting enemies and environmental objects, such as crystals to recover energy.

  • Improved audio quality - now you can enjoy a better and smoother audio experience, thanks to improved synchronization between audio and cutscenes. We have also added the general volume slider on the console, for a single, more immediate adjustment, so as to allow you to manage all the audio tracks in a single solution.

  • Improved combat system in New Game and New Game + - we rebalanced the effects of attacks and damages, skills and behaviour of Avril, her companions and some NPCs, to make fights more fluid and satisfying, both in NG and NG+. This also applies to some boss fights deemed too difficult.

  • Improved User Interface in the game menus and in-game - now, in New Game +, you can clearly see the narrative choices you made during the first run, so that you can create different paths and discover new narrative implications.

  • VFX, textures and environments - we improved all these elements by making them smoother to enhance your overall visual experience.

  • Improved physics for Avril and NPCs - Interactions with the environment, both for Avril and the NPCs, are now smoother and more fluid.

  • Improved dialogues and texts - we improved the codex’s fruibility by making it easier to scroll; we fixed some typos in Japanese, German, English, and Italian; we also enhanced the synchronization between dialogues and the corresponding subtitles to make the overall experience more enjoyable.

  • In the next few days, an even more substantial patch will arrive that will improve your gaming experience even more, based again on your feedback and recommendations.

Don't forget to continue reviewing the game on Steam and leave a comment on our last game - it really means the world to us!
