Hello for the third time in such a short while! We finally found what was causing some players to experience an unresponsive main menu. We spent the majority of our day installing an launching the game on almost 20 laptops, PC and everything in between, trying to find the common thread between all of these machines and we found that it wasn't a performance issue. As it turns out, a recent flag in one of our controller updates affected any device that had touch capability, disabling input if touch was enabled (for instance to disable the trackpad on a Dualsense 4). This is why a pretty large but inconsistent number of you were affected. The recent hotfix should fix this.
1.8.22 Hotfix Patch Notes - Bear and Breakfast
28 NOV 2023
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug that disabled input for the game on some touch capable devices.
Thank you to everyone for being patient and to those that chose to help us figure out the issue1

Hotfix Patch 1.8.21
Steam Deck fixed and temporary workaround for menu freeze issue
Hello, back again with a quick hotfix patch.
1.8.21 Hotfix Patch Notes - Bear and Breakfast
28 NOV 2023
Bug Fixes
Fixed the game not launching on Steam Deck after patch 1.8.20 due to a filesystem bug
In the meantime we also have a workaround for you to be able to play the game if you're experiencing the menu freeze bug: You can load the last version of the game (1.7.3) while we work on fixing the issue (there are no content differences between the two versions)
To do this:
In Steam go to Bear and Breakfast in your Library, right click and go to Properties
In this new menu, go to Betas
Under Beta Participation pick "previous-version".
Upon closing this menu, the game should auto update to the previous version and you should be able to play.
We'll keep you updated on the status of the bug fixing. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Love u, -Rares
Patch 1.8.2 - A message from the Bear Team
Dear Bear Friends,
While this is a regular game update news post, I would also like to tell you about the state of us, the Bear crew (especially for those of you that don't follow us on socials where we've already relayed this message):
For the past few months we have been tinkering away at Bear and Breakfast, working on the plans we outlined last summer. We've been very lucky to have a small but great team of 3 people able to work on this full time. We've recently learned of some serious health issues that will impact our team which we'd like to share with you.
Unfortunately, our art-director Ioana has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. She will focus all of her efforts on treatment and getting better. This also impacts Rares, our game director and Ioana's husband of 12 years. Our lead programmer Andu has been hard at work updating the game, fixing bugs and preparing a port for a new platform. He will keep working on the game as much as he can.
Given this information, the upcoming expansion patch for Bear and Breakfast is delayed. We will do our best to keep you updated on a new release window and the team's status. In the meantime, things we've been working on before we got this news such as controller updates, bug fixes and the new port will still be launching (very) soon.
One of Andu's efforts has solidified in today's patch, which aims at vastly improving the controller scheme of our game as well as adding official Brazilian Portuguese. This will impact you the most if you're playing on Steam Deck or using a controller. Here's what this patch contains:
1.8.2 Patch Notes - Bear and Breakfast
27 NOV 2023
Features & Fixes
Added Brazilian Portuguese language support š§š·
Optimized resources and added more compression to reduce package size
Slightly improved scenes memory footprint
Various localization fixes and dialogue/quest typos
Quality of Life Changes
Reworked Controller Support Entirely
Added Key Rebinding to controllers
Added ability to turn off weather effects (in the Options menu)
Added Stack Splitting binding in Cooking Panel
Added a Cook keybind in Cooking Panel to allow a faster trigger of the action, as opposed to navigating to the button itself
Improved Auto Fill Cooking Cards Trinket to progressively add more ingredients to the table each time it is used
For any issues you might encounter, please report them at our support page and weāll do our best to help you out. (armor.ag/bugbear)
As a final note, this is not news we ever imagined we'd be sharing with you, but it's important to us that you know what's going on with the people behind the Bear game. I won't lie, this sucks. Your support has been very important to us and continues to make a big impact as we navigate this extremely difficult period in our lives. We're doing our best to take care of our team and get back to making video games. Thank you for caring about us and our little Bear game.
Thank u, love u -Rares
Roadmap Update and Merch!
Hello friends (and enemies ĖccskullĖ )!
I'm back with a bunch of news about the Bear Gameā¢. We've been hard at work on things both in and out of the game for the past few months that I wanted to share. So here goes!
HANK PLUSH
Arguably the most important piece of news, icymi is that we have a HANK PLUSH!! We're working with Makeship which sort of works like a kickstarter for plushies, and there's just over 10 more days to nab a Hank Plush for yourself!
The soundtrack is composed by Andrew Landry and the cover art was made in actual plasticine by the amazing cobcris.
DIGITAL SOUNDTRACK
If you're not a vinyl votary, we've also released the soundtrack digitally to almost everywhere you listen to music on, including on Spotify, Bandcamp as well as a Youtube video for all your study needs
ROADMAP UPDATE
Weāre coming up on one year since Bear and Breakfast launched and weāre still working on it! A lot of our time in the past few months has been occupied with addressing a lot of the technical debt we accrued while developing the game. As we all know, every video game is secretly three strands of spaghetti duct taped together. We've been rewriting a lot of the code in order to smooth out some of the performance, but more importantly, to allow us to expand on the game further.
With that in mind, I'm happy to report that weāve got two major beats coming this year:
This Summer / Fall š š® A Controller and UI/UX Patch will be coming soon to the game. š Weāll be adding Brazilian Portuguese to our list of supported languages. š¤ Weāre also working to bring Bear and Breakfast to a new platform.
Later This Year ā A āBig Content Updateā is in development and slated to come out in 2023!! Hank goes in search of a certain someone! Jumping on a boat with Will and Annie, they all take a trip to far away lands!
It expands on the current gameās story and world.
It will feature New Areas, New Hotels, New Furniture and New Characters.
It will also further the stories of some existing characters.
The update will also bring a brand new Management-Focused Game Mode!!
It will be available for free later this year.
STEAM SUMMER SALE
To round things out, as you may all know, Steam Summer Sale has come and almost gone! Bear and Breakfast is currently at the biggest discount ever of 30% off so this is a good a time as any to dip your toes in!
All of today's news is on this handy dandy web page I painstakingly made because I love u http://bear.game/news
thanks for being here ā¤ļø - Rares
Patch 1.7.3 - Japanese support!
Hullo bear enjoyers!
We're pushing a small, but important update to Bear and Breakfast today. Some of the more keen eyed among you might have noticed earlier versions of Japanese being available in the language options.
Today we're officially launching full Japanese localization for the game!
Bear and Breakfast isn't extremely text heavy, but it's not exactly short either, so adding an entire new language is a bit of a journey. Thanks to our friends at Kakehashi Games for helping localize the bear game in Japanese! However, this is not the last language we'll be supporting for the game and we'll announce our plans for future language expansions soon.
We've also been working on a lot of behind-the-scenes fixes and improvements to the game's base code, a few of which are present in this patch. Our goal is to cut down on technical debt accrued during the game's development and improve stability and performance in order to give us a good base for our next plans for the game, which we'll also reveal soon.
1.7.3 Patch Notes - Bear and Breakfast
14 MAR 2023
Features
Added official Japanese support.
Bugs And Fixes
Fixed a bug that would sometimes trigger Windows Firewall upon first game launch.
Took away Gus's scalpel.
Fixed the mistakenly tagged Minimalist Towel Rack as Bathroom Object instead of Decorative
Considered removing Gus entirely. Decided against it. For now.
Expanded collider in Vlad's Cave (Darkgrove) in order to prevent Hank getting stuck behind his furniture.
Fixed a bug making the player unable to accept guest requests in Winterberry / Pinefall
Added a number of improvements and optimizations to how the game uses memory.
Added an experimental tool for attempting to fix specific save files that had bugged progression. The tool will analyze the current quest progress and attempt to unlock all shops and blueprints that might have erroneously self-locked due to a bug. Please note that this is an experimental tool and using it on a save might lead to data corruption or save loss. Use at your own risk and please do not use if your save was not impacted by this bug.
For any other issues you might encounter, please report them at our support page and weāll do our best to help you or pass it on to our development team for fixing (armor.ag/bugbear)
As always we'll be keeping an eye out for any other issues as well as your feedback on our dedicated feedback / suggestion page (feedback.bear.game)
Thank u, love u
Regarding pricing in certain regions
Hey, bear enthusiasts! Wanted to give you all the heads up that Bear and Breakfast will have its price adjusted in certain regions starting today, in order to line up with our current US base price ($19.99).
Most platforms, including Steam, provide pricing conversion guidance for developers which helps us convert our base USD price into reasonable amounts for every other region in which our game is available.
Steam has recently updated these recommendations and we will be amending our pricing accordingly. Most regions will see a small or no change at all, but a few will see more noticeable increases.
This is due to two main things:
Currency exchange rates have shifted quite a bit since Steam last made recommendations, so this update catches us up to current rates. Naturally, currency values change all the time, so Steam plans to update these recommendations annually.
Many professionals have observed lately that a disproportionate number of sales have been coming from regions where games are priced significantly lower when converted to USD, suggesting some players are using VPNs to "currency-hop" in order to buy games for far less than their local economy should afford them.
We want as many people as possible to be able to play our games, but we also need to be able to make games sustainably. If the current price is above what you feel it's worth to you, we will continue to participate in Steamās sale events.
If you have any questions, weāll be around keeping an eye on comments, or you can chat with us in our Discord. Thank you for your understanding and for all the love and support youāve given us. We couldnāt have made this game without you!
Removed a small feature that was accidentally introduced in the 1.6.10 Winter Update, requires additional testing
Took away Gus's third knife
Thank u, love u

The Fintastic Winter Update is LIVE
HELLO!
I'm Rares from the bear team and I'm stoked to announce the newest update to Bear and Breakfast - The Fintastic Winter (Tiny) Update! This is the first of our content updates for the game, and while it's pretty small, it packs a mighty punch!
The Fintastic Winter (Tiny) Update
Recycling
You can now visit the garbage grinder in A24 to recycle any crafted furniture! The recycling feature will destroy any crafted piece of furniture and return around 50% of materials used in crafting, rounded up. You will be able to access the garbage grinder after you've met the three rats in A24.

Once you've advanced to the A24 (for new saves), find the source of joy (read: capitalism) in the area to unlock the new shop. The new Decorations will be available to buy for a few months, but all bought items will remain in your inventory / cabins forever!
A cozy new Outfit for Hank!
Also available in the Special Shop you'll find three new pieces of clothing for Hank!
A bunch of QOL changes!
We've added our first batch of Quality-Of-Life changes to the game, including the ability to quick swap items between inventories (CTRL+Click on Mouse&Keyboard or Left/Right Triggers on Controller), the ability to turn off the Trail Mix Trinket, gave the Recipe Box trinket the ability to also automatically add ingredients (not just cards) and more!
And that's not all:
Verified on Deck!
I'm very happy to report that the Fintastic Winter Update (1.6.9) also brings fixes that allow Bear and Breakfast to be Verified on the Steam Deck! We're very excited to be able to have the little bear game verified!
And to top it all off:
Steam Winter Sale!
Bear and Breakfast is now officially 20% off for the entire duration of the Steam Winter sale! (22nd of December 2022 until the 5th of January 2023). If you haven't fulfilled your life's purpose of running a little cabin in the woods as a bear, there's never been a better time than now.
