Nominate Bear and Breakfast in the "Sit Back and Relax" category for the 2022 Steam Awards!!
Bear and Breakfast has been a product of a lot of love, blood, sweat, tears and syrup over the last 3-something years from all of us, and while it has it's shortcomings, maybe spending some time with Hank has been a little bit relaxing.
I'm Rares from the bear team. I thought I'd give you a small update about how things are going for the team and what we've got cooking for Bear and Breakfast!
As I mentioned at the end of our last update, the team and I have been taking a bit of time to rest and recover after launch. The last 6 months up to the release of Bear and Breakfast were very draining on us, physically and mentally, so we've made the decision that in order to continue working as a team, in a healthy way, we'll be working towards a much more balanced approach to workload versus our own health.
We haven't been totally away though. We've been keeping track of reported bugs and issues, as well as keeping an eye of player suggestions. We've started winding back up and have been working on what's next for Bear and Breakfast.
Here's What's Cookin'!
Our plan for the immediate future implies two major things!
The Winter Update We're cooking up a little update for Bear and Breakfast that will go live somewhere in December 2022. It will include a very requested gameplay feature, which we'll announce soon, as well a ton of bug fixes and solved issues. For a limited duration, the update will also feature some winter-themed Decorative Furniture! More on that soonish as well!!
The Switch Update An update is also in the works for the Switch, that will bring further performance optimizations as well as the aforementioned ton of bug fixes. This will be coming in the very early part of 2023.
2023 and beyond! For the medium to long term future we've working towards multiple game updates for Bear and Breakfast that will include but not be limited to: More player-requested features as well as quality of life changes, brand new story content as well as controller improvements!
As a reminder, we still read through every suggestion and comment over on feedback.bear.game. If you'd like to see any new features added to the game, leave us your suggestions or vote on existing ones!
Oh and In case you missed it:
Bear and Breakfast is currently on its first sale ever during the Steam Autumn Sale, for 20% off!
The Steam Awards are now live! You can help by nominating Bear and Breakfast for the SIT BACK AND RELAX AWARD!
As always, we'll be around checking in on you and responding as best we can. Thank you for hanging out with us and being so patient.
Thank u, love u -Rares
Patch 1.4.8 - Controller Support!
Hi hello!
It's Rares from the bear team again with a much requested update: Controller Support! While we're still monitoring issues and bugs reported here or through our support site, this patch focuses on mostly bringing Controller Support to the game on Steam.
A couple of notes on Controllers:
You will need to manually pick your controller inside the game's options. At the moment, automatic switching between inputs isn't available due to limitations in certain parts of the game. For instance, build mode can't allow switching inputs on the fly because the UX behaves differently depending on what type of input you're using. We're working on improving this.
The Controller scheme we've implemented has been out for a bit and we've already seen first hand impressions. B&B is a complex game to map to Controller, especially given the fact that Hank (adventure) mode and build mode need to coexist within the same controller space, we hope you'll give it a little bit of time to get used to it. We are taking on feedback on how to improve it!
On the note of feedback, we're officially launching
If you'd like to suggest a feature for Bear and Breakfast, please head to feedback.bear.game and leave yours, or just vote on what others have suggested!
We've been listening to A LOT of feedback from youse, here on Steam, our discord, twitter, email and more. We have a good idea of what the most brought up suggestions are, but we want to make it official. Using the Feature Upvote site for Bear and Breakfast, you can suggest and vote in ANY feature you'd like to see added to the game.
This will help us understand the direction you all think this game should go in as well as give us a way to keep you up to date with what we're working on. We'll take note on the most upvoted or suggested features and also mark development status on those that we pick to implement eventually.
1.4.8 Patch Notes - Bear and Breakfast
23 SEP 2022
Added Controller Support for the game (Please select your input device from the game's settings menu)
Fixed a few issues with sound effects voice counts.
Fixed a bunch of missing localization strings.
Added a forced buff refresh after loading staff data (Cooking / Heating)
Fixed a bug where Staff Locked message would still display on serving table, even after disabling automation.
Fixed a bug where staff would sometimes clear valid container contents when stations are active, but the global staff flag is off.
In the meantime, we are still working on getting Steam Deck Verified!
And a small update on us, as people. A lot has happened in the past two months since we officially launched the bear game. We've pushed a few patches, did a few interviews, launched again and even got invited to show up on national TV (thus being able to get official approval from our parents).
We're officially out of "launch season" for the bear game, now with all the original launch versions being out. We're extremely happy with your reactions so far, and we want to keep supporting this game for a long while.
While we're still tinkering with support on issues and what we've promised to deliver, In the immediate future we're also taking a bit of time to rest and prioritize on our own health, which has taken a bit of a beating in the last few months. It ain't easy being grizzly.
In any case, we're still reading, watching, responding and keep you updated on things as best we can. Thank you for sticking around!
Thank u, love u - Rares
Bear and Breakfast is OUT On Switch, Controller Support and Steam Deck soon!
HELLO BEAR FRIENDS!
Short intermission to announce that: THE BEAR IS OUT OF THE BAG AGAIN!
On the note of controller and handheld things, the 1.4.x patch with Controller Support should be coming to Steam on PC within a few days! We're also starting the process of verifying for the Steam Deck and that should be coming soon as well!
We're also doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) over on the /r/NintendoSwitch subreddit, today 15th of Sep at around 10 AM PST! Come and ask us stuff about the bear and it's future, ourselves or anything in between!
Thank u, love u
Steam Trading Cards are OUT
Hiiiiii!
It's Rares from the bear team with a quick update to let you know that Steam Trading Cards have now been enabled for Bear and Breakfast!
We've also added out first batch of items to the Steam Point Shop, including a few Backgrounds and Emotes. We're also working on some really cool stickers and expanding the Point Shop, but those will take a bit of extra time to get done.
What about the game?
Glad you asked!! We're deep into working on patch 1.4.x for the game. Among fixes for some of the trickier bugs you've been reporting, we're also looking to finally add Controller Support, which is done and in testing!
What about Steam Deck??
Glad you asked about that too! As mentioned in the last post, Valve has deemed the game as Playable on the Steam Deck. With Controller Support, we're expecting the available options for playing the game to widen even more on the Deck and once that's done, we'll be starting to invest time and effort into getting properly Verified soon after.
As a side note
Launching this game has been extremely rewarding but also pretty taxing on our small team. We're coming up on a month after launch and we're still working as hard as we can, but we're currently still focusing on the immediate future and health of the game. Once we're over the last hump of Controller Support and Steam Deck verification, we'll be taking a moment to catch our breaths and then dive into the long-term support for the game. This means highly requested stuff such as
A recycling feature
A sandbox mode with a lot more freedom around time manipulation
Mod support??
More content????
We're all still floored by the amazing response you've all given us and we're very excited about the future of the little bear game, which we can't wait to share through a proper road-map outlining the upcoming months, soon!
As always, we'll keep reading, watching, responding and keep you updated on things as best we can. Thank you for keeping Hank company!
Thank u, love u -Rares
Patch 1.3.2 - Hotfix
Hi again,
We did a little whoopsie in 1.3.1:
Fixed a bug where, in scenes where Julia's station was present, but not ON, the food in buffets would sometimes disappear, especially on save/load or on leaving/returning to the scene.
This should now be fixed in 1.3.2 so please update the game to avoid losing your hard earned lunch! Sorry about that!
Thank u, love u,
- Rares
Patch 1.3.1 - The Dining Dilemma

We've been diving into more issues that have been reported over at the support page, as well as on the Steam Forums, Discord, Twitter and through our email. While we weren't able to find the cause and manage to fix everything yet (damn you No Entry bathroom door sign), we managed to address some of the more annoying issues you've been reporting.

Fixed a bunch of typos and errors (thank you everyone for reporting them!)
Fixed Elegant Wardrobe description showing Level 2 instead of its correct Level (3).

Patch 1.3.1 should work with all Save Game Sessions from the previous release version. End of Patch notes.
Beyond that, here are some Steam Specific updates
We quietly enabled Steam Cloud Saves last week, which some players have already been taking advantage of. It should work now!
Valve has categorized Bear and Breakfast as Playable on the Steam Deck! We've received reports of some players being able to play, while others haven't been able to made it work, so please be aware that the experience might not be super smooth on the Deck yet. Since we are still testing out our Controller Support, we haven't invested time in Steam Deck compatibility just yet, but we'll take a proper look at getting verified soon!
We're still fixing existing issues as they come up, including trying to find causes for some of the harder to find ones. We're also looking to start a discussion about the mid-term plan and what broader content updates we can ship within the next 6 months! We'll keep reading, watching, responding and keep you updated on things as best we can. Thanks for sticking around!
Thank u, love u - Rares
Patch 1.2.0 - The case of the disappearing fuel
Hello again!
It's Rares from the bear team, with a small but important patch. We identified a couple of non-blocking, but annoying bugs that we've been working on, but couldn't validate through testing in time for the previous patch.
As a bit of insight into our thought-process, we want to try to limit our patching to those that:
Improve player experience, either through balance changes or bug fixes.
Has had enough time to be tested, so as to carry little to no risk of affecting current experience in a negative way (i.e. introduce new bugs, break something else in the process.
We could rush through some of the changes and push them slightly faster, but that brings a lot of risk and we need to find that balance between getting them out the door in a reasonable amount of time and testing enough so that, hopefully, we won't break anything in your existing game in the process.
That said, here's the small but sweet patch notes for ya:
1.2.0 Patch Notes - Bear and Breakfast
4 AUG 2022
Bugs And Fixes
Fixed a bug where Heaters would sometimes steal entire stacks of Fuel when opening the automation panel, even without making any changes.
Fixed a bug where Heaters would refresh their "Unfueled" icon when disabled in automation.
Fixed a bug where Winterberry Big Cabin outside pilons would create invisible barriers on the second floor, not allowing for proper building or passing through by Hank and Guests.
Fixed a bug where Wade would sometimes not properly calculate costs for each area independently, and instead base his cost on the current area the player was in, thus incorrectly taking Hank's coins.
Fixed a bug where unequipping items from with a full inventory would sometimes not being caught by Lost and Found and being indeed more Lost than Found.
Fixed a bug where some Sound Effect levels would not be getting altered by the SFX volume control in the Options menu.
Patch 1.2.0 should work with all Save Game Sessions from the previous release version. End of Patch notes.
We're still fixing existing issues as they come up, including trying hard to find causes for some of the more elusive ones. As we've done so far, we'll keep reading, watching and responding to you all as best we can. Thanks for being patient with us.
Thank u, love u - Rares
Patch 1.1.1 - It's Raining Nails
Hi bearst friends!
It's Rares from the bear team. We've been very closely following the launch of Bear and Breakfast since release on July 28th and taking in feedback and reports of issues we've received here, on twitter, discord, email and through our support site.
We've worked on some of the most frequently brought up balance issues as well as fixed some of the reported bugs that we could also test in a short-time frame.
We are honestly floored with the reception so far, and we couldn't have asked for a better launch. We are taking all of the feedback to heart, fixing what we can in the short term and planning how to address the more complex changes in the long term, as well as next steps especially for Controller Support and everything else that surrounds it.
Thank you all so much for the love, the praise and the criticism. It all helps us grow and gives us the chance to make the game as good as it can be. Or else.
Here are some patch notes for ya:
1.1.1 Patch Notes - Bear and Breakfast
3 AUG 2022

Fixed a bug where Management Quests that required certain level rooms would only accept that specific level instead of higher levels as well.
Fixed a bug where if a room edit was started on a build target, which was later changed by moving the camera, it would create a string of issues that would potentially break the building mode and require a reset. Editing rooms is now locked to the build target that the room belongs to.
Fixed a bug where closing the game while a meal was cooking and starting a new save, would create a 20+ hour timer in the cooking min-game of the new save.
Balance and Gameplay Adjustments
Changed the in-game time at which Hank can go to sleep, from 12:00 AM to 9:00 PM (earlier by ~3 hours). This should cut down on waiting times, especially in the early parts of the game.

Known Issues and How To Fix Them
Hi bear friends! ːlunar2019piginablanketː
Let's cut straight to the chase! You've all been incredibly great and patient as we go through this launch. We're incredibly grateful and we're doing our best to fix anything and everything you've been sending our way. Here's a list of Known Issues that we've been getting the most reports on, and how you can fix them in your game, while we work on a permanent patch.
Errors on Main Menu / On First Startup
If the main menu reads “LOC ERROR” or if Save Slots are not being responsive when clicked, this can happen if you played the Bear and Breakfast Demo or a preview build at any point. To fix this, follow these steps: <*> Close the game. <*> Enter any Windows folder <*> Paste this file address in the folder address bar and hit Enter / Return %AppData%/../LocalLow/GummyCat/BearAndBreakfast/ <*> Delete everything inside the folder <*> Launch the game again. Here’s a step by step video on how to fix this issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-8-nVpr7mQ
Hank got stuck
Poor Hank! If Hank gets stuck in the environment (damn Swamps), you can use the “Bear Stuck” feature to free the Bear. To do this, follow these steps: <*> Press ESC to access the Pause menu while in the game <*> Click on the icon in the top left of the Screen and use the feature.
I ran out of money and can’t progress
If you run out of money before you’re able to set up a steady income through building bedrooms and accepting guests, follow these steps:
If you are under 100 coins, visit Margaret, your mom in Thicket. She will provide you with some extra pocket money.
Some Text is Obstructed or Interface Panels are off-screen
The game officially supports a 16:9 aspect ratio. Other resolutions might cause some of the UI to misbehave or be hidden behind other elements. To fix this, follow these steps:
Change the game’s resolution to a 16:9 aspect ratio resolution, such as 1920x1080
I can’t edit or delete rooms
While not explicitly shown, it is possible to edit or delete any room in the game. While using the Workbench, you can click inside any room which will bring up the Room Details panel that has Edit and Delete options for each room.
No money from guests
Once a guest completes their stay and leaves in the morning, the money they give should automatically be awarded in your inventory, and the amount should be reflected in their Review details. We’ve received reports of money not being awarded. A temporary fix for this issue is:
Save and restart the game
This should resolve the issue, but only moving forward and not retroactively. We are aware of this issue and are working on a permanent fix!
Guests won’t leave
If a room is modified or edited while a guest is staying in it, it is possible for guests to remain stuck in place and not leave. In order to fix this, you need to:
Delete the room and remake it. The guest should then leave.
We are aware of this issue and are working on a permanent fix. In the meantime, please free your guests as holding them in a managerial limbo is against most laws, I think.
Bathroom Door showing a No Entry icon
When a guest uses a bathroom, the door will lock and a No Entry icon will appear over it. Only one guest can use a bathroom at a time. We’ve received reports of the No Entry sign not clearing and other guests not being able to use the Bathroom. A temporary fix for this issue is:
Delete and rebuild the bathroom. <*> Alternatively, just wait until the next morning and the error should clear by itself
This should resolve the issue momentarily, but not prevent it from recurring. We are aware of this issue and are working on a permanent fix!
Hank Can’t Sleep
The game will allow for sleeping only between 12:00 AM and 8:00 AM in-game time. Before obtaining the Watch, the way to tell it’s midnight is to check that the moon icon is visibly centered in the top right of the screen, over the minimap. Once you are within that time-frame, you can click the “Moon” button in the bottom adventure menu to sleep. We are working towards making it possible to go to sleep earlier to address this and make the game’s pace feel overall more snappy in the beginning.
Can’t build at the Campsite
We received reports of players not being able to build the Campfire room inside the grounds of the Campsite in Highlake. Make sure you’re trying to build the actual Campfire Room type from Build Mode, but if the issue persists, try these these steps:
Try changing your resolution to a lower option <*> Try changing between Windowed and Fullscreen mode
Some players have reported that it has resolved the issue, but it is not guaranteed. We are aware of this issue and are working on a permanent fix!
Settings or Keybinds Issues
If you encounter issues with Settings or Keybinds, please try the following steps:
Go to the Pause Menu, click Options and then click Reset Alll in the lower left corner of the panel <*> If that isn’t possible, force close the game, reopen it and follow the above step through the Main Menu <*> If that’s not possible or the above steps do not fix the issue, close the game and then delete the GameSettings file found in <*> C:/Users/ YOURUSER /AppData/LocalLow/GummyCat/BearAndBreakfast
Game locks when Sleeping
We’ve received reports of the game locking after using the Sleep function. You will need to force close the game and restart. We are aware of this issue and are working on a fix!
Game is stuck during the opening scene
We’ve received reports of the game getting stuck if closed or force quit during the opening scenes, before Hank is shown in his room. This happens because the game cannot properly be saved during the first initial cutscenes. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Quit to menu or force close the game and open it <*> Delete the current save and start a new one <*> Or start a new game on an alternative, empty save slot
Can I split stacks?
Yes! You can use shift+click to split any stack.
I think I lost an item, can I get it back?
The game features a “Lost and Found” feature. If you accidentally lose an item, or for example receive a quest item with a full inventory, the game will automatically show a Lost and Found button to the left of the Inventory button in the bottom adventure menu. Click it to reveal a temporary container from which you can grab your lost item and place it back into your inventory.
We'll keep updating the list as well as keeping up with you all here on the Steam Forums, on our Discord (https://discord.gg/bearandbreakfast). If you encounter other bugs not found on this list, please provide as much info as you can about the issue via our support site (http://armor.ag/bugbear) and we'll do our best to get back to you in a timely manner.
Thank you all for playing the game and helping us make it better. We're doing everything we can to make sure there's no bear left behind and a hotfix patch is currently in development!
