Patch Notes for v0.44.3 & v0.44.4

Loading bug fixes! If you’ve had trouble starting Beast Pets this month, try this update. If you keep having problems, please let us know!

General

  • Added better controller detection error handling.
  • If controller is not detected at the start, the sign will appear with an error message.

Patch Notes for v0.44.2

New loading sign, spatial audio, and unique dragons! We’ve updated the sign in the loading zone with more intuitive settings and navigation. All the audio has also been spatialized so things sound more natural as they move around you. Last but not least, the dragons have started showing the first signs of unique characteristics and behavior! Let us know if you can tell them apart!

Loading Zone

  • Sign immediately appears in front of player at the start before moving closer.
  • Sign briefly displays introductory text before switching to the map.
  • Added a row of buttons at the top of the sign for switching the display.
  • Added an info button at the top to bring up the introductory text again.
  • Added a map button at the top to bring up a map with a picture of Beast Park that is surrounded with a pulsing glow and can be touched to go to Beast Park.
  • Added a globe button to bring up the language settings.
  • No more yellow floating glowy ball.


Beast Park

  • Changed the model of the two taller bubble plants.


Dragons

  • Dragons have started showing signs of unique characteristics and behaviors so it’s easier to tell them apart!
  • Each dragon now has their own vocal range and base volume.
  • All dragons have expanded their vocabulary a bit.
  • Adjusted the sound dragons make while eating.
  • Basic movement parameters are now unique to each dragons.


Items

  • Moved whistle higher and further in front when hanging around neck.


Instructional Sign

  • There is now a hand icon on the sign instead of text inside the blue glow.
  • Reduced the time needed to touch the blue glow before it triggers.
  • Lowered max floating height relative to player.
  • Added new graphics for optional objectives after completing the tutorial.


Tutorial

  • Shortened how long the initial goal is displayed and the delay before the blue glow.
  • Optional chests appear immediately when the instructional sign says to find more chests instead of after the sign disappears.
  • Moved ball and laser teleport spots closer to their chests.
  • Ball tutorial can be completed by grabbing 3 balls or by grabbing 2 balls and a dragon biting 1.
  • Shortened fireworks durations at the end.


General

  • Switched to spatialized audio so things sound more natural and it’s easier to tell where things are by their sound.
  • Integrated LIV to support MR capture with LIV Client.
  • Improved analytics and event tracking.
  • Various bug fixes and performance improvements.

Patch Notes for v0.43.0

New graphical instructions, bubbles and so much more! Graphical instructions instead of just text are now here to make training easier. You can now find some new plants that have sprouted and blow bubbles (which we have “tested” thoroughly). We also fixed a lot of bugs, moved stuff around in Beast Park, and reworked the tutorial pacing. Let us know what you think!

Loading Zone

  • The loading sign will appear in front of the player at a distance before moving closer.
  • The glowing yellow orb now floats up from the ground and hovers below and slightly in front of the sign.


Beast Park

  • Added a trio of bubble plants next to one of the trees that blow large bubbles into the air.
  • Bubbles will float up and around and will pop easily.
  • No more cleanup signs for now.
  • Removed the stone platform and old instructional banners.
  • Moved vines and berries to where the stone platform used to be.
  • The berry branches no longer fall of the ground unless you grab them.
  • Shifted the large crates closer to the vines and berries.


Powers

  • Fixed teleport bug where players would sometimes teleport in place.
  • Increased the contrast of the telekinesis icon.


Items

  • Added a string connecting the whistle around your neck that briefly appears when the whistle is grabbed or dropped.
  • Whistle springs back around your neck more slowly.


Instructional Sign

  • New graphical instruction for the instructional sign, because nobody likes to read (except you, we like you).
  • Graphics showing controller buttons and their effect to make learning controls easier.
  • Moved any relevant text for each graphic to the bottom of the instructional sign as a subtitle.
  • Instructional sign will do a better job staying within your field of view.


Tutorial

  • After the first dragon shows up, the instructional sign will pop in displaying the goal of finding the 6 chests until it is touched or 10s have elapsed.
  • Removed some of the tooltips that are redundant to the information on the instructional sign.
  • Removed quick access tooltip for Teleporter (we’ll add it back later).
  • All interactable objects in Beast Park are now hidden at the start of the tutorial.
  • The large balls and block tower will now appear at the start of the teleporter stage.
  • The small boxes and large crates will appear once the green telekinesis gem is selected.
  • The vines and berries will appear after the laser has been used.
  • The bubble plants will appear when the ball chest is opened.
  • The teleporter chest and start location have been rotated 180° so players can teleport into the middle of the park (instead of into the wall).
  • Once a stage objective is completed, the chest will disappear and the instructional sign will pop up in your field of view showing a graphic with a check mark over a chest.
  • Removed the orange, “done” glowing orb from the instructional sign and replaced it with a find more chests graphic.
  • After completing the tutorial, added the message “Have fun exploring Beast Park!” before the instructional sign moves under the tree.
  • The dragon for the ball stage no appears once the ball is grabbed instead of at the end so there’s always a nearby dragon to play fetch.


General

  • Glowing orbs that trigger after being touched for 1s will now grow larger the longer they are touched.
  • Adjusted font sizes to make text larger when it will fit.
  • Added version info to loading sign in bottom left corner.
  • Added rough Korean localization that will be selected automatically based on the system language or by tapping the globe icon on the loading sign.

Patch Notes for v0.42.0

New instructional sign and icons! We’ve added a new instructional sign that follows you around and will allow us to consolidate a lot of prompts, tooltips and more. We have a lot of cool upgrades and enhancements for the instructional sign planned (including a better name) so look forward to that. We’ve also updated the icons for items and powers to make them more intuitive.

Beast Park

  • Cleanup signs for blocks no longer rotate.
  • Changed cleanup sign text.
  • Changed cleanup text color to white when there’s nothing to cleanup.
  • Cleanup signs adjusts to player height.
  • Cleanup signs are positioned further away from the blocks they cleanup.
  • Added teleport rings in front of cleanup signs.
  • Rotated one of the large trees a bit.


Items

  • New icons for all items and powers!
  • Small gem icons are now embedding inside the gems.

Instructional Sign

  • There is now a single instructional sign that floats around instead of many different signs.

  • Changed telekinesis instructions.
  • Moved the sparkler chest around the tree to the right.
  • Instructional sign will appear either in front of the player or next to a chest.
  • Instructional sign will move closer after completing an objective when the glowing orb appears in the middle.
  • Moved some of the tooltip text to the instructional sign.
  • Between last 3 chests the instructional sign stays in the middle of the room next to a tree.
  • After completing the tutorial, the instructional sign moves to the center of the room and suggests activities around the park.
  • Items float up and out of chests instead of through the side of chests.
  • Changed fetch tutorial to require a dragon pick up a ball.
  • Vines and berries show up halfway through the fireworks.

Patch Notes for v0.41.0

Spring has come to Beast Park! Perhaps because of this (not really), dragons also look and sound more natural when they get excited. This is especially great because they no longer get quite so excited over you and can happily play with each other or off on their own when you need a break. Enjoy!

Loading Zone

  • Fixed sign text display.
  • Orb no longer collides with the sign.


Beast Park

  • Spring has arrived! New flowers and leaves have sprouted and everything is greener again.
  • Changed reset button for blocks to a red disc with a square background.
  • Reset button stays grey and pressed if blocks are all stacked.


Dragons

  • Dragons no longer look like they’re going to eat you when they get excited.
  • Dragons facial expressions once again match the sounds they make.
  • Doubled bite reflex distance check so they’re better at catching things in their mouth.

Patch Notes for v0.40.0

New tooltips! What? Not exciting? But they look so much better now! Whatever, we had to overhaul them anyways because we’re working on localization since we’re getting more popular around the world. We also taught the dragons how how to play catch better and make nom nom sounds while eating. Enjoy!

Dragons

  • Improved biting reflexes.
  • Increased biting range.
  • Dragons are now somewhat better at catching balls in the air.
  • Dragons can once again bite balls or food from your hand without it going poof.
  • It’s possible to grab balls or food from the dragons’ mouths again without them going poof.

Patch Notes for v0.39.1

This is a fix for a bug with v0.39.0 for people on the SteamVR ‘openvr-inputemulator-temporary’ beta branch. We reverted the our SteamVR Unity SDK to the previous version which fixed the problem. Thanks to everyone that reported this!

Patch Notes for v0.39.0

We did a big update of everything under the hood to make playing with dragons smoother and snapier! We’ve also moved the first dragon appearance sooner so everyone can play with their first dragon faster!

**2nd Update** This is now fixed in v0.39.1. For those who switched over to the the ‘prev’ beta branch, you can leave it there for a more stable build or switch back to ‘NONE’ for the latest and greatest.


**Update** This version is not compatible with the SteamVR ‘openvr-inputemulator-temporary’ beta branch. To use the previous version of Beast Pets, opt into our ‘Prev’ beta branch which will always contain the previous stable version.

To opt into the previous stable branch:
1) From the Steam library, right click Beast Pets and select "Properties"
2) Go to the "Betas" tab
3) Choose "Prev" from the dropdown menu

Patch Notes for v0.38.0

Signs, buttons and physics improvements this time, along with our usual tutorial improvements. We added two floating signs with a button you can press to reset nearby blocks with the improved physics for your hands. You can also press the button with balls, blocks and dragons! It’s taken a lot of time to get the signs and the buttons to feel right so feedback is appreciated.

Beast Park

  • Added floating signs with a button for resetting the tower and block stack.
  • Removed the lever for resetting the tower since it was confusing and didn’t work well.
  • Disabled auto-reset for all small blocks (and the associated ding every minute).


Dragons

  • Lowered chance for dragons to regain interest in the player and food to help reduce swarming.


Powers

  • All finger tips can now be used for selecting gems on the opposite wrist.


Tutorial

  • Added a sign with instructions for the wristband.
  • The wristband, whistle and chest handles will flash an outline if they are not grabbed within a set period of time.

Patch Notes for v0.37.0

We made a long overdue update to the loading zone text! Now it is much shorter and easier to read on our friendly, floating sign. We’ve also added more specific prompts in some places when people get stuck. Lastly, feeding the dragons from your hand works way better now so give that a shot!

Food

  • Blockberries are now less interesting to dragons until they’re picked.


Tutorial

  • Replaced loading zone floating text with a smaller floating sign.
  • Shortened loading zone introduction text so it’s faster to read.
  • Chests now scale based on user height to make them easier to open if you’re smaller.
