Dragon feeding is here! Find all 5 dragons and blockberry vines will grow that you pick to feed them!

Dragons

  • Dragons can now eat food! As they eat they’ll get full but they’ll quickly get hungry again.
  • Improved dragon interactions with their environment.
  • Dragons now make a wider range of expressions.


Food

  • Added blockberries! Blockberries grown on vines in bunches. Pick off a small block so dragons can eat it!


Tutorial

  • Blockberry vines appear for feeding the dragons after the fireworks stop from finding all 5 dragons.


Powers

  • Increased neutral hand color delay to 5s.


General

  • Improved analytics and event tracking.

Patch Notes for v0.35.0

New floating signs! Tutorial signs now follow the player around but can also be moved and interact with physics! As always, please share feedback so we can continue to improve Beast Pets, thanks!

Tutorial

  • Signs now float around at a fixed distance from the player’s head.
  • Signs adjust their size and distance based on player height to stay in arms reach.
  • Signs can now be grabbed or pushed around with physics.
  • Signs react to your gaze to adjust to your field of view.
  • Dragons can now interact with signs and will sometimes even acknowledge their existence.
  • Merged sign and teleport orb together for advancing the tutorial.
  • Orbs can now be touched for 1s to trigger in addition to grabbing.
  • Teleporter tutorial requires 2 successful teleports to complete.
  • Telekinesis tutorial requires 2 successful grabs with Telekinesis to complete.
  • Tutorial starts by showing only controllers, then switches to hands once the wristbands are equipped.


Powers

  • Hands now change color to white shortly after a power is selected and change back to a color when a power is in use.
  • Pinkies (in addition to thumb and pointer finger) can now be used to touch gems on the opposite wristband.

Patch Notes for v0.34.0

This week we have a lot of improvements to the dragons and a power upgrade! The dragons are much more active and playful while also better respecting your personal space. We’ve also upgraded your Telekinesis power so that you can push and pull whatever you’re grabbing. We lost track of time while playing with the dragons and hopefully you will too!

Tutorial

  • Made lines from controllers to throwing balls thicker.
  • Signs bob slightly in the air and appear/disappear faster.
  • Wristband floats up from the ground instead of from the side.
  • The sparkler and laser tutorials now require holding a dragon’s attention for a specific amount of time instead of just using each ability for a specific amount of time.


Powers

  • Telekinesis has been upgraded with tractor beam controls! Use the touchpad to push or pull an object by touching the top or bottom of the touchpad while using telekinesis.
  • Fixed a bug where it was sometimes possible to teleport onto a dragon.


Items

  • Throwing ball is slightly less shiny.


Dragons

  • Improved dragon interactions with blocks.
  • Dragons have gotten better at biting balls.
  • Dragons now pay more attention to player hands which makes them easier to pet.

Autumn has come to Beast Park! We’ve given Beast Park a makeover for fall and it looks great!

Beast Park

  • Beast Park has been overhauled for Autumn with a new design!
  • Added a lever for resetting the block tower.
  • Improved lighting.
  • Added a fence so your head won’t stick through the outer walls.
  • Added grass and plants.
  • Changed block tower design.
  • Changed appearance of small crates.
  • Changed big balls to look low poly.


Tutorial

  • Added floating signs with instructions for each stage of tutorial that appear in front of the player or over a chest it’s contents have been grabbed.
  • Changed chest tooltip text.
  • Wristband doesn’t disappear anymore when controller is shown.

  • Added firework celebration when player finds all 5 dragons.
  • Pressing ‘s’ 3 times in 1 second now skips to the next stage in the tutorial instead of skipping the whole tutorial.

Patch Notes for v0.32.0

Fixed a lot of common stumbling points like teleporting onto chests and getting confused about how to use the whistle and balls.

Tutorial

  • Controller tooltips rotate to face player.
  • Improved wrist flick prompt animation to better match the target gesture.
  • Chest handles are all at a consistent height relative to player.
  • Added back button flashing and haptics for controller prompts.
  • Added dominant hand detection for situations where a prompt should only affect one hand.
  • Added line pointing to the whistle from the controller if it needs to be grabbed.
  • Added lines from each hand to ball one each side that needs to be grabbed.
  • Floating objects will catch up to a player if they are too far away.
  • Chest tooltips are smaller and toggle on and off.
  • Dragons that are summoned during tutorial appear in front of the player and are briefly more interest in the player.
  • Chest lids can now be lifted up more easily.
  • Disabled teleporting onto chests.

  • Can now select gems by touching them with a thumb.
  • Changed gem highlight color to match gem color and shrunk highlighter size once they’re equipped.
  • New gems flash when they are equipped until they are selected.
  • Added ~ around gem names ~ so they stand out ~ more ~.
  • If teleport beams are active on each hand, only the first one release will actually trigger a teleport before both turning off.
  • Fixed bugs where two powers could be active at the same time.
  • Fixed a bug where beams would improperly follow hand animations and mess up aiming.

Biggest change is that instead of showing controllers by themselves during the tutorial, the hand shifts so it’s holding the controller and animates pressing a button.

  • Now shows hands holding controllers and pressing buttons
  • Chest handles are now gold so they stand out more.
  • Chest handle tooltip is now bigger.
  • Added more grab prompts with hand animations for controls.
  • Fixed bug where chest stand would flicker if it was too low.

Patch Notes for v0.30.0

360 degree tracking in VR is great, because you can look all around you and even behind you… in theory, anyway. But since no one ever turns around to look for chests and discoverables we decided to rotate the player so you’ll always face the chests during the tutorial.

And for you taller folks (over 4 feet) we’ve now elevated the chests so you don’t throw out a hip bending over.

We cut the length of the mandatory tutorial in half so you can get to exploring sooner! Half of the chests are now discoverable. Read on for more detailed updates:

  • Split the tutorial into required and optional parts so people can explore faster!
  • Optional chests appear after completing required chests and temporarily disappear while other chests are in use.
  • Orb turns orange and sparkles after completing the last required or any optional chest.
  • All chests disappear after grabbing the orb or when the orb disappears.
  • Chest lids now obey gravity.
  • Moved locations of chests around the room.
  • Added haptics to chest handles.
  • Greyed out buttons players should ignore when controller appears.

Hey all, we’re improving the dragon physics each week. In this update, you’ll notice that the dragons have gotten less spastic. Read on for more details on fixes and improvements.

  • Changed Telekinesis (TK) beam appearance.
  • Added green outline to objects grabbed with TK.
  • Improved accuracy of grabbing via TK to prevent accidentally grabbing nearby objects.
