The Achievement Update is here. Based on the current player data, it was fairly obvious that the games original achievements were WAY too easy to unlock. So, we've leveled the playing field. Here's a quick breakdown of the entire update:
- Added new achievements, bringing the total to 17 for those players looking for more of a challenge to "perfect" the game.
- Added FULL controller support. All screens and menus of the game can now be access using the controller. This includes the Help screen, the Credits screen, as well as quitting the game.
- Added a small change to allow the Nuclear Bears head to bounce off of the games "walls"
Hopefully this is a bit more of an added challenge for those of you who were asking for it. Go forth and BeeFend!!!

Achievements Update Coming Soon
Be on the lookout for the next update coming soon. This will mainly be an update to the Steam Achievements, primarily adding more of them, as well as some minor fixes here and there. Full details will be made available on the games Steam page upon release. To those who perfected the game already -- we're sorry. To those who perfected the game already AND want more -- get ready.

Major Update! - 2.2.1
Hey all - BWT Games back at it again with another update. This one is a big one, so make sure you're sitting down. Here are the details:
- Fix a bug with a specific achievement that caused a fatal crash (Thanks Bee!)
- Clamped the bear to make sure the player cannot shoot the bear fully offscreen. We were noticing that sometimes a player would kill a bear while it was offscreen This fixes that issue and adds a slight degree of difficulty as a charging, vicious bear will always be that much closer. Also, note that this also pertains to the bear head as well.
- Wipe all enemies at the explosion scene transition as well as added a smear of blood splatter to lightly change the mood and get the player ready for whats to come.
This next one is huge. Probably the most profound game change since BeeFender has released, and it involves the most frustratingly-talked-about part of the game: the spider. Many reviews have mentioned it. Many YouTube videos have mentioned it. No matter how you slice it - the spider was a major pain, and an absolute death warrant in late game. So in our first attempt to balance out gameplay, we made the following changes:
- Created a mini-game to free the player from the spider web by shaking the player left and right. This works on both keyboard-and-mouse setup using the 'A' and 'D' keys, as well as left and right on the left analog stick if you're using a controller.
To a degree, we expect this change to impact MOST players. We'll be reviewing scores and looking at the numbers to see how this turns out. As this is an entirely new gameplay mechanic, a new page has also been added to the Help section to describe it in further detail.
Lastly - as the game gains some user momentum, it's clear that we needed to rework the leaderboard. You'll now notice that each user posts a SINGLE score to the board as opposed to submitting a separate score for each game they play. We get it, Bee. You're #1. ːsteamhappyː You don't have to keep reminding us that you're also #2, #3, #4, etc...
As always - keep the feedback coming!

Bug Discovered
Hey there everyone! We want to thank you all for the crazy support BeeFender has been receiving - and that includes all of you who have reported small bugs and other issues that went unseen by us here at BWT Games.
We wanted to put out a statement regarding a specific bug that seems to be Windows-related. If you are playing the game, and leave it at the main menu, or the game over screen, or the leaderboard, and you let your PC "fall asleep", the game will break once you reawaken your PC. You notice that all sound will be gone, and certain in-game objects won't spawn (which, in turn, causes other in-game objects to not spawn).
We did our research today and found that this appears to be an issue with many, many games. Including Triple-A titles.
I don't think there is much we can do here - but if Windows happens to push out an update that fixes this, we'll make sure to test and report back to you!
Thanks!

Update 2.1.5
Hey all - This morning we released update 2.1.5 to fix a few small things. Check out the details below:
- Updated and resized the yellow powerup icon (increase firing rate) to better represent the powerup.
- Added a new hidden achievement for all you achievement hunters out there. Good luck!
Also - it appears the leaderboard has been overtaken by "Bee". Is anyone going to step up and take them down?!

Lets Game It Out plays BeeFender!
The guys over at Lets Game It Out gave BeeFender a try. Check out their attempt to hit the Top 15 here. Keep it up, guys!
Update Has Dropped!
Hey All - we want to thank everyone for being patient. We've listened to a lot of your feedback, and have implemented some fixes into the game. Here's a breakdown of the update:
- Turned off linear interpolation. The soft, fuzzy edges have been replaced by hard, jagged, pixelated greatness. We think it makes for a much crisper experience.
- Reduced volume of all sounds/music by 20%
- Re-drew enemy sprites (birds, bugs) in an effort to maintain uniformity.
- Added a 1-second delay in enemy spawning after the use of a bomb. Note that this only applies to birds. Once the larvae in the ground start moving, theres no stopping them!
- Brightened the shade of purple on enemy birds.
- Added an element of randomness to the enemy bird movement to keep the player on their toes.
- Re-drew the player sprite in an effort to locate the player during later-game gore showers.
- Re-drew the spider sprite to include an thin, white outline. Many players have mentioned that it's difficult to notice the spiders presence before it's too late. Without adding a game-breaking hint, like a subtle sound effect, we thought this was the best way to make the spider "pop" off screen. This small outline effect was also added to the player.
And with that, BeeFender is complete. As soon as Steam allows us (Monday morning at 9pm, pacific time), we'll be release BeeFender from Early Access. Thank you all so much, and enjoy!

Update Coming Soon!
We had posted back in April that an update was in the works... Apologies that it has taken so long, but as a team with full time jobs and families life gets in the way sometimes. We're almost ready to send out the latest update, with fixes for quite a few minor things that were identified by the players as well as some enhancements based on those suggestions left in reviews. Take advantage of the reduced price for the Steam Summer Sale and BeeFend this summer!
Upcoming Update
Thanks to everyone who has played or streamed BeeFender so far, and a huge thanks to anyone who has left a review or provided feedback that will further the development of the title. We are aware of some issues that users are experiencing and plan to put out a fix ASAP to address some of the things that we see as the most urgent. Note that there will be some delay before the fixes are released due to known issues in Game Maker Studio 2. We are being careful not to update this with any potentially game-breaking issues.
One thing that will be addressed in the next update is the game volume; this has been reported as an issue for several users. Our best suggestion until the update is released is to simply check your volume settings and make sure that your volume is turned DOWN, preferrably to 3/4 or less of full volume, especially if you're wearing headphones.
Lastly, just a quick reminder that the current contest for the high score is ending April 13th! We've seen some impressive scores so far, but no one has beaten the beta battle score of 242,500, set by Zstan!
We're listening to all of the feedback we can to improve the game without straying from our original vision. Keep it coming!
