Blaston Championship 2022 - We're halfway through Phase 1!

With the Glow Up update, we announced the 2022 edition of the Blaston Championship. In it players can participate in the ranked queue, weekly challenges and community events to qualify for a finals event with a total prize pool of $10,000!

Phase 1 is where players can collect points to ensure their slot into Phase 3, the regional finals (divided between Europe & North America). With Phase 1 taking place throughout August & September, we're now more than halfway through. In just over a month, we've seen a ton of action from players participating in the ranked mode, challenges and also community tournaments such as the VRML Season 1 Playoffs, Cuper Cup #2 by Ember Studios, VR League Italia Summer Blast,

It's not ever yet though, this week the 2nd Fab Cup, hosted by Faboulous Esports is kicking off this weekend, which also has a community crowdfunded prize pool!

The current standings for Phase 1 of the Blaston Championship is available on the tournament page on our website, but you can find the latest rankings for North America & Europe here below!

Phase 2, which is set for October, will feature the Last Chance Qualifiers, where players can take the last chance to sign up and compete in a bracket for the final spots in the Blaston Championship Finals. More information will be available later this month.

Blaston included in the SXSW PanelPicker voting!

Blaston has been included in the PanelPicker voting for SXSW 2023 with the topic: "Mixed Reality - Moving Beyond Hype & Getting Real"! Here's the description for the talk:

To many, mixed reality has been a nebulous concept promising life-changing experiences it’s yet to deliver. That’s changing now with better technology, new players entering the space, and lower barriers for consumers to get involved. Learn more about the real, demonstrable ways AR and VR are having an impact on everyday life – and why they might not be what you’d expect.

This means that if we get enough votes, we'll be up on stage to talk more about MR and Blaston to a bunch of people! If you'd like to see it happen, we'd appriciate if you vote for us!

Vote here: https://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/121126

And in case you missed it when we initially shared it, here's an in-depth look at how Mixed Reality works in Blaston.

The Blaston: Glow Up Update is now LIVE!

We’re BACK! And we have a bunch of content added to the game for you. In the Glow Up update, we’ve included several new skins, avatars, a new arena - along with new attachments and weapon balancing - and the launch of the Blaston Championship!

New Legendary Skin: Lyxx

Lyxx has always been the face of Blaston, and today we’re switching it up by giving her a new look with a legendary demonic skin. With a more aggressive look, we see this as an alter ego to the main character that you know and love!

New Avatars: Clamos & Argentia

A little over a year ago we launched the singleplayer campaign for the game, and we know you want to be able to become the characters that you face. So we polished the models and made them av ailable to be played. Get them in the store now.

New Arena: Greatstone Valley

Similarly to the campaign characters, a lot of people expressed how they missed playing Quick Draw when it fell out of the seasonal mode. Well, now you’ll at least be able to go halfway there with a classic version of Greatstone Valley.

New Attachments: Ellipse Weapons, Vector, Nova Helix, Nova Hurricane, & Lance Nade

Last update, we brought a new element into the meta with several attachments including bouncing projectiles. This time we’re shifting our focus to the original ellipse weapons, along with weapons we felt like needed some love with the Vector, Nova Helix, Nova Hurricane & Lance Nade. You can now track and complete the attachment missions for these to find new ways to play with them!

New Tournament Circuit: Blaston Championship 2022

Alongside the Glow Up update, we’re launching our first ever competitive circuit for Blaston! If you’ve ever wanted to try competition in the game, now’s your chance. The circuit is divided into 3 phases, with the first starting this August. Players can join by playing the ranked mode, joining the weekly Blastzone Challenges, or participating in community tournaments to fight for their lion share of a total of $11,000 prize pool! Blaston Championship Cosmetics: Banners & Universal Weapon Skin

With the launch of the Blaston Championship, we’re adding a few more cosmetics to the game so that you can fully get into the competitive spirit. You’ll now see the Blaston Championship logo in the arenas, and you can also represent your region with the European or North American banners available in the store. Exclusive finalist and winner banners will also be given out to the participants who qualify and win the regional finals. Blaston Developer Roadmap - June 2022

We’re back with another roadmap post for Blaston!

Now that Reloaded has been out for a while and we’ve managed to smash most bugs in the subsequent patches, let’s take a look forward at what’s coming in the next Blaston update.

Currently Planned Content & Events:
  • 🔨 General Bug Fixes
  • 🤖 New Avatars
  • 😼 Legendary Avatar Skin
  • 🎨 More Skins
  • 🔫 More Weapon Attachments
  • 🏆 Championship Tournament

Starting off you may notice that we’re not pointing out new core game features, and that’s because in this update we’ll focus more on content for the game. We’ve heard you loud and clear and we know that you want more customization options for your in-game avatars. So you’ll see some new ones, along with some that you may have run into in the past as well…

We’re also going to continue the rollout of attachments in the next update, as well as further weapons balancing. We appreciate the feedback that has been given, and thanks to your play, we have the information we need to make the game’s balancing even better.

We’ve also noted a few crucial bugs that we haven’t been able to get to yet that we’ll be looking to address in the next update. We want to remind everyone that if you run into a bug, it helps us a ton if you follow the instructions in the discord and report them properly. If we get a bug report without visuals, reporting ID, or any reproduction steps, it significantly lowers the chance of us finding the problem and fixing it for you. So help us help you if you find any!

Finally, for those with keen eyes, you may remember that we had a very specific picture chosen for this update back in January when we did our 2022 roadmap video. Just know that we’re working on something big. It will be the first Blaston tournament of its kind, and we hope to see as many of you participating in it as possible! So stay tuned for that as the details will roll out alongside the update.

So with that said, what are you looking forward to the most? 👀
If you haven't already, join the Blaston Discord to talk to other players about it!

Starting today you can now use the Blaston Spectator for free on Steam to watch Blaston matches on your PC! Find and download it here!

With the Blaston Spectator you can watch Friendly Lobbies and Knockout Tournaments in the game by using the codes created within the game. We've had this application in closed testing and for competitions and tournaments, but now everyone will be able to use this to view and showcase the game!

If you've watched Blaston tournaments or streams in the past, you have most likely seen a previous itteration of this spectator, but with the release we've done some significant improvements to it.

Changelog from Closed Test to Release:

    <*> Added Audio Settings:
You can now adjust the volume of the game, sound effects as well as enable voice chat for the matches.
  • Knockout Tournament tournament queue now has a new view with animations for when match is starting!

While anyone can use it the main purpose of the Blaston Spectator is for content creators and tournament organizers to be able to view matches in a much easier way. Besides watching the public queue that is sometimes live on the Official Blaston Twitch Channel, you will also be able to see this being used in the upcoming Season 1 of the VR Master League.
