Blazing Sails

Update Preview: Two Player Ship!

Ahoy! It’s been a while mateys…

And boy do we have something to share with ye’ all! Over the last few weeks we’ve been hard at work adding various QoL improvements to the game, especially in treasure hunt hoping to get more people to try out the new gamemode. More detailed descriptions of these exact improvements will be shared in the next patch notes.

But that’s not all pirates. Since the start of our Early Access journey we’ve seen many suggestions come and go but we did notice one in particular that just keeps popping back up. A TWO PLAYER SHIP! So being the dangerously obedient devs we are, we’ve made a little sloop for ye’ salty sea dogs.

Meet The Sloop!

The sloop will be available in both the BR and Treasure Hunt gamemode and is designed for max. 2 players/crew. Meaning that it should be able to handle the bigger 4 player crews.

Everything on the deck and below is compact and easily reachable so you don’t need as many hands like with the other ships.

Meanwhile, the sloop is fast and agile while also packing a punch with its many swivel positions.

It also handles like a charm with its short steering radius and fast sail deployment.

Boarding the sloop might also prove difficult for your enemies since it's equipped with only one ladder.

In terms of hull strength, the sloop compares to the brigantine. This way we want to even the odds of winning with a smaller crew size.

Hope you’re excited mateys! We hope to release the sloop + more sweet improvements very soon in our next update!

What about the Early Access Roadmap?

Usually we announce big updates like this one in our Roadmap instead of via a preview. Behind the scenes we’re working on some other big stuff and we just haven't figured out yet what the next part of the roadmap should exactly contain.

Therefore we’re holding off until we’ve sorted some things out. Rest assured, we hope to share more about our road ahead quite soon!

Major Update 1.8: NEW Gamemode: Treasure Hunt, Barbary Corsair DLC & More!

Ahoy ye gold-hoarding bilgerats!

The time is here for another MAJOR Blazing Sails update. We’ve got a sweet NEW GAMEMODE + A NEW DLC for ye all and we can’t wait to showcase all that!

[previewyoutube="SG7MQPvm2y0;full"]

Treasure Hunt

Treasure Hunt is a new gamemode in which you and your crew must search islands for treasures! Treasures can be turned in at one of the 2 Outposts at the centre of the map in exchange for gold. Get more gold than your enemies to win!

But beware, pirate! Enemy crews can steal your chests and your gold by sinking your ship or can deplete your gold by killing your teammates.

These treasures can be found with a special compass that displays how many chests are in the direction you are looking at.

When you get closer, the arrow at the centre of the compass points in the direction of the closest treasure.

You win the match by having the most gold by the time the match timer ends!

Barbary Corsair DLC

On top of a sweet new gamemode we’ve got an epic new cosmetic DLC that allows you to look like a bad-ass Barbary Corsair. This DLC contains 6 unique color variations of the outfit including a few unique plumed and non-plumed turban-inspired hats.

Version 1.7.5.2: Shooting Range, sniper glint and more!

Ahoy pirates!

We're dropping a new small update a bit sooner than anticipated to fix the issues we've experienced with our back-end. However, we've got a few cool new additions stowed away in this one.

We've added a shooting range that you can use to practice your pirate eye. It includes all of the game's weapons, some bullseye targets, a few ships, cannons and more! So go wild and sharpen that aim.

Secondly we've also added a sniper scope glint. This will make it easier to spot those deadly sharpshooters. The glint will appear when another player using a sniper rifle looks at you.

Next to that we've also improved ship and land collisions a bit which should fix the teleporting up onto buildings, or teleporting up onto a deck from below when making odd movements around staircases.

Conquest has also gotten some improvements such as weighted flags which should make it so the next flag will now have a higher chance to be a flag far away instead of a flag that's very close by. Point reduction amounts have been rebalanced, flags can now only be captured while uncontested and more!

Read all about the changes and additions in detail below.

Note: We're still updating the main menu's news image, this will work in our next small hotfix.

Patch notes:

Practice addition:

  • Added a new shooting range map (practice card under the play menu) including bullseye targets with damage feedback, ships, cannons and all weapons

Gameplay additions:

  • Added a sniper scope glint (visible when an enemy sniper wielding player aims in your general direction)
  • Cross-hair screen accuracy improved
  • Added some invisible ship colliders to Kraken Keep to prevent ships getting stuck on shallows
  • Slightly increased cannon right click zoom from 20% to 30%
  • Final zone music in BR now loops

Profanity tweaks:

  • Profanity filter now automatically enabled when toggling streamer mode ON

Conquest tweaks:

  • Fish launcher now costs 2500 gold
  • Flags can no longer be captured while enemy players are contesting the flag
  • Flags can no longer be captured from underneath (exploit)
  • Pre-game timer changed to 210 seconds (3.5 minutes)
  • Ship sink point depletion amount increased from 300/400 to 350/450 (depending on player count)
  • Spawn on wreckage time reduced to 10 seconds after sinking
  • Flag randomization now uses weights (furthest flags have more chance to be chosen)

Collision improvements:

  • Improved ground snap detection which should make it impossible to teleport up onto buildings or high walls
  • Improved ship staircase collisions which should fix strange upward teleporting
  • Ship wall / railing detection improved which should fix accidentally warping over railings or falling off the ship

Visual tweaks:

  • Reduced noon time of day water specular intensity a bit (was much too bright)
  • Improved Trident beam effects and texture

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed galleon ladder climbing offset
  • Fixed a bug that caused loadout selection screen to appear on top of winning screen when dying right before end-game in conquest
  • Damage points on ships should now be visible again while spectating

Roadmap Update: New Gamemode, New DLC And More!

New Gamemode

In other news, there's been a slight change of plans. As those of you with a keen eye might notice in the Roadmap below, the new milestone doesn't really represent the latest teased silhouette. All for good reason of course, we've noticed many of you have been asking for a certain gamemode and we just couldn't resist exploring those suggestions... so we started working on something that we think a lot of you will adore.

In some way, this new gamemode might feel like meeting a long lost friend. But he got a slick new hairstyle and finally shaved his unibrow... In any way, it will be something entirely fresh, yet with the same enticing Blazing PvP combat we all know and love.

New DLC

What better way to celebrate a new gamemode than with a brand spanking new set of shiny swag? Soon we'll also release our entirely new purchasable cosmetic set. And you better get your shades out, because this is one exotic looking ensemble!

More!

Last but not least and as usual we also will continue to roll out those sweet QoL updates including: bug fixes, more tweaks, balancing, more features, etc...

Version 1.7.2: First person animation improvements, new sound effects and more!

Happy New Year pirates!

We hope you all enjoyed the holidays and found some love, hugs, kisses, rum, treasure and whatnot.
To start off the new year we've prepared a small update bringing some much needed love to some of the aspects that had been forgotten. Namely, the quality of the first person experience, the movement system and the sounds.

In today's update we're introducing an important change which may require some getting used to if you've been playing the game for a while. We've introduced reduced air control. What does this mean, you wonder? Well, before today pirates were also birds as they were able to literally glide around in the air, often making it very difficult for other players to hit them or even see them at times. With reduced air control gliding in mid air is much more limited. You can still change your direction a little bit while in the air, but you will mostly jump towards your initial jump direction. Currently air control is set to 40% which still gives enough control to adjust your jump trajectory slightly. This change should make close combat a lot more fun and engaging.

As for the first person tweaks, there's a couple of new things.

Your weapons will now always remain visible, even when sprinting, but instead of disappearing they are now held down. And landing after a jump now has a bounce animation.

We've also changed the game's field of view system which now uses a vertical lock instead of a horizontal lock meaning widescreen monitors will now be able to fully enjoy the game as it's intended without awkward cropping. Note, that this change may require you to readjust your mouse sensitivity and FOV setting.

And we've also tweaked quite a few weapon sounds to make them more distinctive, more punchy and just generally of higher quality.

Patch notes:

Movement:

  • Air control reduction added (40% down from 100%) reducing the amount of control you have while jumping

Field of view (FOV):

  • Field of view is now locked vertically instead of horizontally

First person animations:

  • New sprinting weapon animations (weapons are now held down instead of disappearing)
  • Jump land bounce animation added

New / tweaked sounds:

  • New water splash sound
  • Flintlock sound tweaked
  • Quad-barrel flintlock sound tweaked
  • Heavy / fast sniper sounds tweaked
  • New musket sound
  • Half-barrel sound tweaked
  • New double barrel sound
  • Repeater sound tweaked

Bug fixes:

  • Falling or jumping on ship no longer uses walking animations while in air

Version 1.7.1.2: Conquest improvements and more!

  • You can now kick another player off the steering wheel (1 minute cooldown for kick and 1 minute cooldown until kicked player can use steering wheel again)
  • conquest only*

Curse changes:

  • Curse health debuff decreased from 25% to 15% so cursed HP is now 85 (up from 75)

  • Game sound now keeps playing when game is out of focus (alt-tab)

Cannon addition:
