More realistic world generation in the next update


Hi!

I'm testing with a simpler more realistic world generation (Ridged multifractal). I know that many of you want that. It creates rivers and classic mountain shapes. No overhangs or floating chunks. You can select this world type in the next version:

Blockscape BSNG v29 released (Hunter update)

Hi,

Highlights:



  • Added Throwing spear. Very good against flesh. Craft with workbench.
  • Added meat item. Horse drops 4 and fox drops one. Roast or boil to eat.

  • Cube fill with [SHIFT] + [LMB] is now context/material aware.
  • Hid some materials that is not used
  • Mesh optimization now honors cover material.
  • Give console command now works with materials (example: give rock 100)
  • Fixed intro screen map rendering

  • Fixed crash when destroying disconnected chunks containing certain block types.

Blockscape BSNG v28 released (Summer 2023)

Highlights in this update:




  • Night Worms path visualization.

    It is now easier to see if there is a hole in your building.
  • Smoother texture transitions.
    I finally fixed the annoying swapping of textures.
  • Better landscape 3d material layout.

    I added trilinear interpolation to the 3d material layout. The result is that the material layout appear more natural as you dig through the ground.
  • Further separation of organic and construction materials.
    Smooth tools can now only be used with organic materials and blocky tools can now only be used with construction materials (non organic). This makes it less confusing.

Blockscape BSNG v26 released (Landscape 4 and bug fixes)


Hello!

Small update to fix some bugs and to add the new Landscape 4 world. I have also added a "hostile mob" world option so that you can play survival in peaceful mode.

  • Added warnings when you have unprocted ietms/model or when you are under attack.

  • Growth simulation

    • Soil turns into grass
    • Grass material grows short grass plants
    • Short grass plants grows into tall grass plants
    • Surfaces gets covered by snow when snow is falling


  • Optimized world editing in areas with many lights

Blockscape BSNG v24 released (Physics Easter 22)


Hi!

I hope you are having a wonderful easter. Here is a big egg of Blockscape candy just for you.

Highlights in this update:


  • Better distance cues and slope based materials = Epic landscape.

  • Better performance with dense foliage and foliage is affected by player.

  • New animated sheet block type that is usefull when building things like flags, sailcloth and hang glider
    wings.

  • Big physics update. The engine will now detect disconnected chunks of voxels.

  • Added buoyancy. The first step towards boats.

  • Bigger castles!

Random thoughts 14



  • Blockscape has real slope based materials now. This means that the cover material tool has been updated and works a bit different. Instead of covering any up-facing suface completely with the selected material it will now cover the surface based on the underlying material properties. This works with distant terrain as well as can been seen in this image. The snow covers the mountain based on the underlying rock material slope.


  • I spent some time updating the lighting system and distance cues to give a better sense of scale.

  • Added a new "sheet" block type. It is used to create an infinitely thin dual sided sheet of the selected material. Like plants and leaves it is also affected by the wind. The new block type is usefull when building things like flags, sailcloth and hang glider wings.

  • Added more distinct shadows to foliage lighting and lots of small updates to clouds.


  • Spent some time optimizing rendering in areas with dense foliage and foliage is also affected by player movement now.

Highlights in this update:



  • Projectiles


    You can now equip the stone shape. Soft materials will stick to the surface on impact and hard materials will destroy terrain on impact. All materials will hurt mobs and the damage is based on the material hardness. Throwing rocks in water creates a little water splash ːsteamhappyː
    I will add more projectile weapons later on.
  • Optimizations


    Increased rendering and world loading performance. Reduced memorty usage.
  • Improved visuals


    Many improvements to texture and normal maps and shaders.
