Blood & Gold: Caribbean!

Legend of MacLeod

Hi everyone,

While working on our free expansion, we took notice of gender narrowness of the sexual paradigm that is presented by Caribbean prostitutes in the game.

Sure, the western world of the 17th century was in heterosexual discourse, despite some single anomalies like abbot de Choisy. Still, it's important to understand that Victorian neurotization of the sexual area at the time of 1680 wasn't even in plans. And that gave an opportunity to make a choice.

So now, we're glad to introduce the new game element — male table dance performers!

More over, we'd like to remind of national minorities and their dire situation in 17th century's Britain. That era was filled with struggle of Gaelic people against the tyranny of London administration.

Special contribution to the fight of Highlands people is credited to the MacLeod clan. In honour of the their two most prominent members, Connor and Duncan, we're adding a special weapon — Sword of Connor MacLeod. This weapon will be available for a limited time.

UPDATE:

The legendary is gone now for obvious reasons. However, it still may return in the form of a Workshop mode some day. Keep an eye out!

Elusive bugs

Hi everyone,

We didn't announce this specifically, but with the upcoming free DLC there will also be a large bugfix update. Lots have been done already, but we might need you help with something in this regard.

There's a couple of mysterious and elusive issues that we're sure had been already fixed and dealt with. We're talking about troubles with ship pathfinding on the global map and wrong dialogue options.

As much as we're sure those are no longer an issue, we still keep seeing reports of these problems here and there. We really we want to settle this once and for all, and ask you to let us know if you stumble upon any of those bugs in the game. Feel free to post here in the Steam discussions or send us an e-mail with savegames to support@snowbirdgames.com.

Thanks!

City Raids

Hi everyone,

Today we'll take a quick look at the new gameplay mechanic from the upcoming DLC called "City raids".

Let's say you want to hurt your enemy right where he lives, but at the same time you don't want to risk losing your entire army doing just that. Also, maybe making some money along the way. Sounds interesting? Then city raids are made for you.

To initiate a city raid you'll need to right-click on a city's icon and choose the "Raid the City" menu option, or just use the usual menu upon arriving to the enemy city.

Then, you and your army will appear on that city's location with one mission — to kill as many civilians as you can. Because the more lives you take the more money you get in the end. City guards will try their best to prevent this from happening.

You'll need to know when to stop though, as the enemy will keep deploying reinforcements that you'd have to fight during a siege otherwise. So pace yourself and don't get too greedy if you don't want to find yourself on a plantation once again — head to the location's exit when you feel the time is right.

Free DLC on the way

Hi everyone,

So following up on the previous update here, it's now time to announce our plans to release the free DLC for Blood & Gold. Yep, completely free. Yes, again. Is it good? What do you think? Free is always good.

First of all, this update will introduce an additional atmospheric value with new and unique town locations for each faction, which is something we've been asked to do for a very long time.

Not only that, those who are left with hunger for lust after endless battles can now enjoy the company of dancing naked ladies. You'll need to visit pirate taverns for that if it's your thing.

The DLC is not purely eye-candy though. We're expanding Caribbean gambling activities with brand-new horse races. There is a twist — all participants can kill each other in the process, because why not?

There's also a new option to worsen your relationship with a faction by raiding their towns — take a fight among the town's streets to the screaming of innocent citizens.

As a bonus, we're also doing a little experiment and adding a new multiplayer mode, which is commonly known as 'Battle Royale' (or 'Hunger Games'). It's something completely new for us and we might need some help in testing it out a bit later.

Here are some screenshots for you:

A little something

Hi everyone,

We figured we'd stop hiding for a bit and show you what we're working on right now, in a couple of screenshots (for now).

More information to follow, but at the moment — here you go:

Have a nice weekend!

Steam Workshop is now open

Hi everyone,

We're glad to announce that Steam Workshop for Blood & Gold is now available. With Workshop and the updated module system you now have the full and ultimate package to create, share and download any mods for the game.

To recap, here's what you need to know to start making and uploading your mods for B&G:

1) In order to familiarize yourself with the new module system, you'll need to read the 40-page guide we wrote some time ago. It's available in the game's main directory and called 'Caribbean_module_system.pdf'.

2) Module system's source files can be found in the main directory as well: Blood & Gold Caribbean!\modules_source.zip

3) As an instruction, you can use this guide on our forums. It was originally written and used for Warband's Workshop, but it works for our game as well with some minor differences.

This should be it, have fun tinkering with the game. We're looking forward to see your creations there!

Status Update #12

Hi everyone,

It's time for another status update.

Right now we're focused on looking through your bug reports and other feedback that's been collected over the holidays. Aside from bug-fixing, here's what we are also working on right now:

1) Improving siege location — sometimes AI's acting very strange, so the location requires some additional work.

2) Adding "shotgun" weapon class — we're not talking about 12-gauge "Remington", we mean blunderbusses: weapons that deal high damage from close range. Reloading takes more time of course, but it's worth it.

3) One more assassination mission, this time with a new special location.

4) Animated clouds — we thought it'd make the game look more atmospheric. After all, clouds moving across the sky can make any scene more exciting:

We'll note one more time that right now we're fixing the bugs you've told us about. Some of them, like disappearing ships, sailors sinking on battleships and negative HP for hulls, are fixed already. You may expect the next update some time next week.

Update Notes (December 28)

Hi everyone,

We're releasing another update today before going full NY-celebration mode. Get some good rest as well and have a Happy New Year!

Update notes 2.030:

Added:

- Ability to save items in a chest in your cabin and mansion.
- Drummers appear in player's army after creating his own faction.
- Ability to buy and use cavalry spears in multiplayer.
- Fencing around the pier in the town location.
- Rich dresses for governor's daughters characters.

Fixed:

- Bug in the "Killer nun" mission that let players restart the mission by pressing Tab.
- Behavior algorithm for assault cavalry — now it rushes to engage enemy in a melee fight as quickly as possible. Ranged cavalry will continue to shoot from afar, keeping their distance.
- Upgrades for automatic repairing of ships.
- Bug that prevented "Engineer" skill taking its effect during ships repairing in sea battles and on the party screen.
- Minimized probability of the "player's double" bug appearing. If you still experience this problem, please let us know.
