Play Borderlands Science inside Borderlands 3 today to earn unique rewards and help map the human gut microbiome.
Next time you're aboard Sanctuary III in Borderlands 3, keep an eye out for the newly installed Borderlands Science arcade game in the corner of Doctor Tannis' infirmary. Developed in conjunction with McGill University, Massively Multiplayer Online Science, and The Microsetta Initiative, Borderlands Science is a puzzle game that benefits the real-world scientific community as you play.
[previewyoutube="L_mH6Ak_Ny0;full"]
Borderlands Science presents you with simple block puzzles based on strands of DNA, and by solving them you're helping to map and compare the microbes contained therein. Completing these puzzles also earns you in-game currency, which can be redeemed for unique Vault Hunter Heads and Skins as well as timed boosters that buff your stats, loot quality, and even experience gains when you jump back into the mayhem of Borderlands 3 proper.
Borderlands Science exists in part because computers aren't perfect at organizing this data and make lots of small mistakes that can corrupt subsequent analysis, but the game you play to solve this complex task is easy to understand and play. Colored tiles representing different nucleotides appear on a grid; by nudging them up within their columns, you attempt to organize them into the correct rows. It's not always possible to line up all of the tiles correctly, but attempting these puzzles is still helpful as you're identifying errors in real-world computer analyses.
Each of the Borderlands Science puzzles has a target score that you need to hit in order to progress and get credit for solving it. Note that hitting a puzzle's target score doesn't mean you have to move on to the next one though; often there will still be additional moves that you can make. Going above and beyond the bare minimum that's required is key if you want to beat the high scores already posted by Tannis and contribute more data to this important microbe initiative.
In case you're curious about the practical applications for the raw data gathered through Borderlands Science, the human gut is linked to numerous diseases and conditions, including diabetes, depression, autism, anxiety, obesity and more. By mapping these microbes, the hope is that scientists will be able to better understand these ecosystems, which may help guide future research into novel treatments and interventions. For more information, check out The Microsetta Initiative. And if you want to learn more about the methods, check out dnapuzzles.org.
Borderlands 3 Hotfixes: April 2, 2020
Today we will release a hotfix for Borderlands 3, which will be live by 12:00 PM PST. This hotfix begins two new events, Slot Machine Mania and Trials Take-All, and includes some buffs to the Gunner, weapons balance, and addressing reported community concerns. To apply hotfixes, wait at the main menu until you see a sign that says “Hotfixes Applied”! If you are experiencing any issues or want to provide feedback, please submit a ticket to support.2k.com.
The Door Busters mini event ends at 9:00 AM PST today.
We also are excited to start two new events: Slot Machine Mania and Trials Take-All! They'll go live with the hotfix today!
Slot Machine Mania pays out big time! There’s an increased chance to win Legendary gear from Slot Machines, and for grenades to spawn (because who doesn’t like a little risk?). There’s still a chance for other loot to drop, but the rate has been reduced so you can win Legendaries (and take damage)!
Trials Take-All boosts the rewards awarded during the Proving Ground Trials. Bosses will have a 100% chance to drop loot from their pools during the event.
Adjustments for Moze, the Gunner:
We have been taking a closer at Moze the last few weeks. Here at the first set of hotfixes based on those investigations, primarily focused on improving her survivability. We will be further addressing some areas we identified as trouble spots for her in the future.
Weapon Balance:
Damned
Hyperion Weapon Shields
The Lob
Tiggs Boom
Moonfire
Good Juju
Play together during Co-op Loot Drop and other upcoming events
Enjoy Borderlands 3 with your pals and earn more loot during the Co-op Loot Drop event and more!
If you're looking for a way to connect during these strange times, games are a fantastic way to socialize even when we have to be apart. Right now, you might be deep into Borderlands 3's latest campaign add-on, Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock, or tearing up Maliwan's forces during the ongoing Takedown Shakedown event. But if you're looking for even more ways to play together remotely over the coming weeks, we've got just the thing. Starting today, we're kicking off the Co-op Loot Drop event that gives you some sweet incentives to play Borderlands 3 with your co-op buddies.
Co-op Loot Drop will switch on via a hotfix today, and is scheduled to run through the full month of April. During the Co-op Loot Drop, all Badass enemies will drop more loot whenever you're playing co-op. It's that simple!
In addition, we’ll be layering shorter events on top of the Co-op Loot Drop all month long. First up, we'll be trying out a new Door Busters mini-event, where Legendary items will be hiding among the usual fare for sale in vending machines across the galaxy. Door Busters will run from today until next Thursday, April 2 at 8:59 AM PT when it will be replaced with another event or two on top of the ongoing Co-op Loot Drop bonuses. Our goal is to give you something surprising and exciting each week, so be sure to check back.
We're also sending everyone the themed seasonal items from the previous Bloody Harvest and Holiday events (including a level 57 version of the Juliet's Dazzle Legendary Assault Rifle) for anyone who might've missed them the first time around. Look for them in your in-game mailbox when you log in before 8:59 AM PT on April 30. Oh, and one more thing: here's a SHiFT code for a whopping 10 Golden Keys. Make sure to redeem this SHiFT code here on Borderlands.com, on the Gearbox SHiFT site, or via the in-game Social menu in Borderlands 3 before it deactivates on April 10 at 11:59 PM PT.*

We hope you're all staying safe and healthy, and that Borderlands 3 provides some mayhem-filled bonding even with everything else that's going on. The Co-op Loot Drop, plus this series of surprise events over the coming weeks, will roll us into the Mayhem Mode 2.0 endgame overhaul and the Revenge of the Cartels seasonal event we showed off during The Borderlands Show Episode 6. Whenever you need a break from the real world, we invite you to come play together on Pandora and the planets beyond.
*Borderlands 3 and SHiFT account required to redeem. Each code may be redeemed once (1) per SHiFT account.
The engagement party celebrating the upcoming union of Sir Alistair Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakobs is now in full swing on Xylourgos. The venue that the adventurous grooms-to-be have chosen for this joyful gathering is an unusual one to say the least. Xylourgos is a harsh, windswept ice planet where you’re never far from ferocious fauna, and the town of Cursehaven where invited guests are meeting up sits in the shadow of a colossal monster carcass that’s worshipped by local occultists. Should be a fun time!

Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock is the second of four campaign add-ons that are included with the Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition and Season Pass. It’s also available to purchase separately though you will, of course, need to own a copy of Borderlands 3 to play it.
What's New:
In order to reach Xylourgos with an existing Vault Hunter, you’ll also need access to Sanctuary III, the starship you get by completing Episode 5 of Borderlands 3’s main story missions. When you’re ready to travel to Xylourgos, look for the invitation—highlighted with a yellow exclamation mark—in Hammerlock’s study on Sanctuary III.
Alternatively, if you don’t have access to Sanctuary III yet or are looking for an excuse to play with a new character, you have the option to create a new Vault Hunter and have them bypass the opening acts of the Borderlands 3 story so you can head to Xylourgos right away. If you have a campaign add-on installed and would like to play that content with a fresh Vault Hunter, select Play on the main menu, followed by New Game; you'll then get to choose which storyline you want to jump into.
The grooms have requested no gifts please, but bring guns. Lots of guns.
If you are experiencing any issues or want to provide feedback, please submit a ticket to support.2k.com. Below are the notes for today’s patch.
Patch Notes
New Content:
Here it is! Two capstones, everyone! We’re excited to see what interesting new builds everyone creates with these additional skill points!
Here are the first 3 new Guardian Rank Perks! In the Enforcer tree we’ve added “C’mon and Slam,” allowing you to use the slam at any height. This should make slam gear a lot more interesting. For the Survivor Tree, you can now enable “Too Angry to Die,” allowing any damage you do to enemies in Fight For Your Life to slightly extend your down time. Finally, in the Hunter tree we added “Harmageddon,” where additional damage is done to enemies that have received multiple static effects.
You can now immediately jump into new DLC content right from the menu! You’ll start the game with a character leveled up to where the DLC content would be unlocked, and you can start right in the new content.
Viewers can show their appreciation for their favorite streamers with Moxxtail Events, which let you convert Twitch Bits into in-game beverages that provide the streamer with various limited-time buffs. We have a full explanation of how they work in our Moxxtail Events guide, so be sure to check that out if you want to dabble in some Borderlands 3 mixology.
Stability
Performance
General
We saw the community feedback here and agreed that seeing gear below the level cap, when at the level cap, was not an ideal experience. Characters at max level should no longer receive gear at a level lower than their character through chests and drops from enemies that are also at the level cap.
Based on data and community feedback, we have adjusted the leveling experience post-Act 2 to better ensure that enemies are properly leveled to players as they move into the second half of the game. This change will only impact characters created after this patch is live.
