Major Update Version 0.17: Step by step

Hello fellow outlaws!

It's been 2 weeks and you know what that means, it update time! I know we haven't been able to release updates lately and I thank you very much for your patience! As we mention before, sometimes, a new system requires an enormous work under the surface, this was exactly the case here! Fortunately, we have been able to make it through!

As we hinted to before, this update is focuses mainly on reworking the progression within the game, the goal is to facilitate the onboarding of new players as well as give older players challenges to look forward to.



New player will start the game with a smaller pool of objects that are easy to understand and uses and will organically unlock new one by playing. This allows us to make sure that items that require a better understanding of the game will be unlocked once the player has a good grasp of the mechanics.
Older players will, on their end, be rewarded with new challenges to take on. Indeed the number of achievement has gone up from 20 to 77. They will also be able to spend the excess gold nugget they might have accumulated.

Adding achievement has required us to create a new backend system (which took some time) that will also allow us to add more of them in future update in an easier fashion.

Last time, we also did a poll regarding objects that you would like to see implemented in the game, here are the 5 most upvoted:

  • With 156 votes : Ethereal Flame - Spawns an invincible minion that picks up coins for you, it also inflicts damage when it collides with an enemy
  • With 113 votes : Godly Die: Your re-rolls for upgrades now raise the quality of the choices you have (up to mythic rarity for any type of upgrade). Gain 1 re-roll.
  • With 62 votes : Last pull: When you take a hit, attracts all collectibles visible on the screen
  • With 49 votes : Panic attack: Throws 3 knives in random directions for each 2 meters travelled
  • And with 48 votes each :
    Desperate Burst - Whenever you get down to 1hp, kill all enemies on the screen (120 seconds cooldown).
    Relentless Momentum - Whenever you move, adds 10% to your area effect size and raises your damage by 5% for every 5 meter (max 10 times)

Finally, we fixed a few bugs here an there, tweaked a few things and updated a few visual assets, you know, the usual shenanigans.

  • No Achievement Icon : An icon now appears when achievement are disabled
  • New menu pop up when starting a game with Redemption options enables

It is been two weeks already and as per usual, it is time to talk about what we're working on at the moment.

As we mentionned last time, we're currently on a big rework of the progression within the game. Even though we were able to make significant advancements in that endeavor, it's yet to be perfect at the moment. However, we have come to a stage that will allow us to update the system onto the private beta test version very soon. I'll be sure to let you know as soon as it is up!
By the way, if you'ld like to have access to the private beta version, please go through the following steps. Please remember however that the private beta is not a finished product and might contain bugs :

The last time we updated you on where we are and what we are working on, we also asked you to take a poll to see what we should focus on next. What we do in the shadows...

It's been 2 weeks since the last update already and by now, you probably know that it should mean an new update is coming in today. Unfortunately, it won't be the case this time. However, that doesn't mean that we will keep you out of the loop quite the opposite, let's talk about what we're working on.

At the moment, we're hard at work remodelling the progression and the metaprogression within the games and that means a lot of work that, sadly, often goes unoticed so let me show you.

First off, in order to implement the many changes we want, we made a change to how Gold Nuggets are earned. Indeed where earlier you would only earn Gold Nuggets depending on your scores in game, achievements will now reward you with some of that rare currency depending on how difficult they are to obtain. This meant that we are implementing a looooot of new achievement for you to chase as you can see in this voluntarily blurred teaser :



Secondly, in order for this new progression to be a full experience, we feel like you guys need a way to check on the achievements from within the game and not have to always go back and forth between Bounty of One and the Steam Achievement page. We are, therefore working on a new ingame menu of which you can see a tease here :



Finally, and to complete the experience, we will be introducing a small surprise for you once you buy out Roger's Black Market. We wouldn't want all those Additionnal gold nuggets to go to waste would we?

At the moment, it is hard to evaluate when this update will be out but rest assured that we will keep you update of advancement and or drawbacks.

While we're working on this new feature, we're always, of course, working on parallel content such as new items or character. Don't worry, you can expect to see more new things once we're done reworking the progression system. Wanna tease? Here you go :

Hotfix 0.16 (2) Characters unlocks working again

- Characters and achievements bind to characters can be unlocked again.

Sorry for the inconvenience, we are working on a new unlock system and didn't think it would bug the current unlock system. We couldn't test this in our beta version as most people already unlocked everything there.

Patch 0.16 : A bag full of small improvements

It has been two weeks already, time for the new update.

This time, it is all about quality of life and balancing. First off, we finally added an inventory! Indeed, you'll now be able to see the objects you have chosen along your run through the pause menu or the upgrade or object selection menu.



This feature was heavily requested and we are happy that we finally could take the time to bring it to you. When it comes to quality of life improvements we also added a few more options in the settings for you to personalize your experience. You can, for example, toggle the catchphrase texts on or off.

Secondly, this update comes with a big balance change. Indeed, since the implementation of the undertaker and the game duration increase that came with it, we noticed that critical chance and critcal damage had become a must take in every run. This didn't suit well with our game design as we want players to be able to not invest in criticals if they so choose. We, therefore, decrease the efficiency of critical chance and critical damage upgrades but brought down enemies health in general to balance things out.

Moreover, and as you can see in the preview image for the update, we took the opportunity to add yet another language : russian.

Finally, and as per usual, we got rid of a bugs that arose in the last update as well as other older ones.

We are also working on the side on a bigger change to the game but it is a bit early to let you know. You'll see soon enought. :)

  • Inventory system - You can now access your inventory while in the menu or when choosing upgrades or objects. In the inventory, you can see all the items you've already collected in a run.

Happy new year to all!



I hope 2022 has been a well-filled year for each and every one of you. For Bumpty and myself, 2022 has been a year full of exciting challenges that we have managed to overcome. We started the year by getting into video game creation and, thanks to Bounty of One but especially thanks to all of you, we were able to end the year by creating our own independent studio: OptizOnion. Once again, we thank you for your continued support without which none of this would have been or would be possible. We wish you all the best for 2023! May this year be full of emotions and adventures!

For this first 2023 update, we're starting off slowly, given the festivities, by bringing you a new set of 6 items to complete your outlaw arsenal. I hope you will like them.

As usual, we have fixed a few issues and other bugs occurring in Bounty of One as well as worked on balancing the game.

We are also working on new features that you have often asked for such as the ability to see your inventory during a game.

  • Binary System :
    When your current health is a even number gain +20% damage, when it is odd lose -20% damage.



  • Bloodlust Idol :
    Picking up hearts no longer heals you, however you gain 3 base damage each time you pick up a heart. Heals you completely and gain 3 max hp.



  • Espresso frenzy :
    Gain +20% move speed and +1% attack speed for 0.3 sec each time you pickup a collectible. (Max 50 cumulative buffs)



  • Lucky Belt :
    Gain 10% more experience from future and past coins.



  • Machine Learning :
    Everytime you kill 30 enemies gain +1% crit chance. You lose 50% of the buff when taking damage.



  • Mezcal Grenade :
    Shoots an explosive grenade towards the nearest enemy. (Cooldown : 4 sec)

Major Update Version 0.14: The Undertaker!

It's been two weeks and you know what it means, a new update is here and it is a big one! As you may have guessed by the title and the preview and the tease and... He is finally here, the Undertaker has come to oppose you as the final boss of every run so without further a do, let me introduce him.






The Undertaker



The Undertaker was once a powerful and respected necromancer, renowned for his skill in harnessing the dark arts. But as he delved deeper into the forbidden corners of magic, he became consumed by an all-consuming desire for power. He began to see the value of life as nothing more than a means to an end, and he began to use his magic to control the spirits of those around him.

One of the first victims of the Undertaker's corruption was his beloved dog, whom he brought back to life using dark magic after the animal grew old and died. This act of desperation only served to further fuel The Undertaker's descent into darkness, and he soon found himself using his magic to control the spirits of his underlings, binding them to his will and bending them to his every whim.

As his power grew, so did his ambition, and The Undertaker began to set his sights on becoming the boss of the underworld in Greenhill. He knew that to achieve this goal, he would have to eliminate any rivals standing in his way, and so he began to plot and schemed to take out anyone who stood in his path.

Over the years, the Undertaker worked tirelessly to build up his power base in Greenhill's criminal underworld, using his dark magic and cunning to attract and recruit the most dangerous and ruthless criminals in the land. With the help of his controlled spirits, he was able to secure his position as the undisputed boss of the underworld in Greenhill.

Now, the Undertaker rules over his criminal empire with an iron fist, using his right hand man, Crazy Denzel, and his controlled spirits to enforce his will. Despite his fearsome reputation, The Undertaker is constantly haunted by the memory of his once-loyal dog, whose undead form now serves as a constant reminder of the terrible price he has paid for his ambition.




We know you have been waiting for the Undertaker to finally show and we wanted to thank all of you for your continued support and enthousiam, we hope it lives up to the hype.

The Undertaker's arrival comes with quite a few change to the way a run in Bounty of One works. Where previously runs were composed of 2 acts (pre-Rex, Brutus and Cupcake and pre-CrazyDenzel), a run will now have 3 parts. Moreover, the enemy types are now gonna be distributed in a different way within those 3 acts. The Goblins, Mages and Golems types will be limited to the first hald of the run whereas the Batmen, Orcs and Ilithids (that were introduced in the halloween update) will populate the second half. Having more acts also means that you will collect more chest before the end of a run and that each will last longer. As you may remember, we had posted a poll regarding your opinion on how long you thought a run should last, well despite a small majority of you wanting for the game to last for 24 minutes (not counting the boss battles), we decided to make them last for 20. Indeed, after testing the 24 minutes length, the game felt way slower and didn't keep that hectic rythm we all like. It will remain like this for now but we are always open to your feedbacks on that matter.

Finally, as usual, we've worked on patching small issues and balancing the game. Anyway, that is all for today, you can check the full list of changes hereafter.
