New online tech is now in public beta! Lots of updates and improvements.

I turned on the new online tech in the main branch and moved it from alpha to beta.
Lots of improvements, updates and additions too.
Once the new online tech leaves beta, I will be working through a big list of content updates in May.

-Moved the new online tech from alpha into beta and turned it on in the main branch in Steam.
-Brightened the Titan beam attack telegraph shader at night time.

New Titan map threat feedback. Improvements and fixes for single & online alpha

-Fixed an issue where the remote workbench menu being used could allow you to build some objects when you didn't have all of the required resources.
-Improved NPC rotation logic to remove some stutters from them turning too quickly during combat.
-Setup world map and minimap icons for the Titans so there is a threat circle feedback.
-Improved player minimap icon so it doesnt go away on the edge in some cases.

-Updated Ferry Boat logic so it works correctly again... new networking logic was causing issues in single player as I finish the updates for adding in the new online tech to release in the default branch very soon.
-Changed Main Menu background video to not be a streamed from disc asset. As a Streamed asset it wouldn't always load and sometimes could cause crashes. This new setup uses more memory but is more stable.
-Improved placing objects on floating docks to fix pipes attached to Refinery since they didn't want to attach previously
-Update to Stats button in player menu to be an icon instead of words and to show the number of points available.

Remote Workbench feature and other recent updates

V0.7.71 is live with improvements and some new content, plus updates to the Online Public Alpha branch.

On the path to finishing the new online tech, I am improving various parts of the gameplay and adding new contraptions and items. In addition to the below, check out the latest Online Public Alpha branch build for all the online bug fixes and improvements. Its very close to moving to the next phase of getting it ready for the default branch.

Remote Workbench


Most recently I added the Remote Workbench feature to the game. You can open the Remote Workbench menu from the player menu, or by hotkey (R or d-pad down which can be remapped in Settings). If a Workbench is nearby which allows remote access, it will let you build contraptions from it. This bench will directly enter build mode for these contraptions and will consume prebuilt items or resources each time you place the contraption in the world.
This is different from the normal interaction with Workbenches, which will build inventory item versions of everything. The other difference is that the Remote Workbench menu can’t build any equipment, only contraptions.
Try it out next time you play. It makes base building much smoother and makes it easier to be more creative.



Cannons on boats and Boat storage


If you are firing a Cannon on a boat, it would previously only consume ammo from your players inventory. The logic was updated so that Cannons can now also look in the boats inventory for ammo. It makes it easier to load up a boat with ammo and cannons and set sail without swapping out your players inventory items.

Updated Titan Beam


Some users have said they play games without Bloom turned on. When I played Breakwaters in this mode, I found the Titan Beam VFX didn’t look good enough, so I did an update pass to the visuals to make them look better with or without post process turned on.



Titan Fireworks


I mentioned the Titan Fireworks item addition in the last update but have done some minor updates to them in recent build changes. They are meant as more of an early game item or a quick deterrent while exploring. I am currently working on the late-game equivalent now and hope to share that soon.
