How much do you actually know about beers? Well, let’s brush up on basics! If you missed our posts about beer types, we collected them in one place for your convenience.

American Pale Ale
American Pale Ale is a staple of beer crafting today. It was developed in the United States around the 1980s and is a variation of the British Pale Ale.
American Amber Ale
The name Amber Ale was trademarked in the UK in 1876. When it expired in 2002, many breweries started using the name for their darker colored Pale Ales. American Amber Ale is produced using amber malt, or in some cases crystal malt. It results in a beer generally ranging from light copper to light brown in color.
West Coast IPA
India Pale Ale, most commonly known as IPA, is one of the most popular styles of beer ever. And because it is so popular, it has, like, a million different variations. Today we’re gonna look at the West Coast variant, which is one of our favorites.
Why is it called a West Coast IPA? Because this one was first brewed in various states along the Pacific Ocean, and they also used the hops grown in these areas. So, West Coast seemed like an appropriate name.
And what exactly makes West Coast IPA different from the original? It’s bitter. Like, oh boy ass-kicking bitter. The aroma is boldly hoppy but when drinking it you can also detect some citrus notes in there.
American Black Ale
American Black Ale is a relatively new style of beer, and it is said it was created either in the late ‘90s or early 2000s. American Black Ale is also sometimes called Black IPA or a Cascadian Dark Ale, and its name, unsurprisingly, comes from its nearly black color.

Beer Diaries: Do you have a shovel? Let’s play in our sandbox!
Part 6 of Beer Diaries, y’all! Did you bring your shovel and bucket? We’re gonna dig into the sandbox!
So yes, we have a sandbox mode. 📜 After you’ve played the story mode already you might want to just freely run your brewpub without any directions you get in the story mode. Or maybe any narrative 🗣️ is not your glass of beer and you wanna skip it completely. Valid but also SHAME because it’s fun to know the history of the place you own!
Anyway. In the sandbox mode you don’t start like this:

You also have a bit more money 💰 to play with, more decorations are unlocked 🎍, and you have more beer recipes available 📝, too. All that is to allow you the full brewpub running experience without the hassle of unlocking the stuff first.
So what can you do in the sandbox? 🤔
Well, basically everything! Decorate your pub however you want it to look 🖼️ (within the confines of the money you have, obviously), brew beers with or without the recipes 🍺, clean up, open your bar 🧹 and serve your customers to earn money 💸.
With that money 💵, you can buy new furniture and decorations 🛋️, and more ingredients for your brewing experiments. You can make the bar look however you want! There are also minigames to play and brewing competitions to win 🏆.
So, what are you going to start with?
Beer Diaries: Sir, Your Dart Is In My Eye
Have you ever played darts, or pool, or whatever in a pub?🕹️ We'd say that's half of what pubs are made for! And this spirit of competitive minigame nonsensity finds its outlet in Brewpub Simulator! 🍻
Yes, we do have games. All the ones you'd expect.
Darts, where you can show off your skills in targeting that one spot that everyone looks for but has trouble reaching 🎯
Pool 🎱, with the exact same table that Arnold threw that biker on in Terminator 2. (Nah, we're kidding. But then, how can you verify it?)
And an arcade machine, which comes with something very special. 👾 HIGH SCORES! Can you beat your customers? What happens if you throw a beer at them while they play? 🎮 You can answer this and many more urgent questions.
Somewhat related to the previous paragraph is a very special minigame we call Making Patrons' Life Miserable 🧍. Note that it's not necessary to play it to beat the game. We would even discourage you from playing it. But what can we do?
Don't treat your patrons like that starting June 12 📅. Get ready for the release by adding our game to your wishlist! And check out Sports: Renovations playtest in the meantime.

We have this garden area in Brewpub Simulator, which you could've seen already on our very wonderful TWITTER ( <- follow us maybe?). So what do you do in the garden? Of course – barbecue 🍖♨️! We have considered a lot of possibilities for how to handle it best (and not turn Brewpub into a BBQ Simulator🥓), and we have something very special in mind. But hush for now!
What else can you do in the garden? Decorate it, of course! If you really want to, you can fit TONS of stuff in there, as seen in the gif below. 🌼
But you might say: the garden required quite a walk from the bar area. Won't that mean going there and back again like some lost Californian twin of Bilbo Baggins👣? No! Because we have our mighty TRAY which lets you carry many glasses at once. It's great when you need to clean after a particularly busy night. 🍻
And also, when you enlarge the kitchen area, you can take a shortcut to the kitchen! Level design, right? 🏃💨
That's our garden! It will let you do quite a lot of things, but you'll see soon enough. Brewpub Simulator is coming out on June 12 📅, so mark this day in your calendar. Or, even better, our game to your wishlist!

And that’s not the end of the good news: soon you’ll be able to play the game yourselves! Movie Games started collecting signups for the open playtest. If you want to help them improve the full game, go to the Sports: Renovations Steam page and click the “Request Access” button.
The playtest will start soon. Every person who requested access will get the option to download and play the game. After that, we will ask you to fill in a survey – your answers will be invaluable to the progress of the game.

But but, first, remember we have a new twitter? Give us a follow, we have some cool beer lessons arriving there. Just so you know what you’re actually brewing.
So what about that brewing? 🍻 There are like a bazillion styles of beer, and all are great, but we needed to narrow down our selection a bit. No worries, there are stil several different recipes in the game. And, you can experiment too! 🧪 Who knows, maybe you’ll even brew something palatable.
Kidding of course. We know your beer is gonna be a smasher. Hopefully. 🤷
Realistic brewing? Yup, we have it!
We’ve made a lot of research before writing the game. 🔍 Sure, it helps that we like beer but that’s not all there is to it. We actually went and looked closer at the process of brewing. We’ve noticed that the order you put ingredients in matters. We saw (and tasted) that how much hops you throw in affects how bitter the beer will be. And we absolutely love these nuances.
And obviously, if you add some more ingredients, you will get new flavors in your beer. And some of them are just *chef’s kiss*. Chocolate beer? Yes please. 🍫
And you can use your imagination to make something creative 🦄
Yap, we have some cool ingredients available for you to use so you can brew something uniquely yours. But you need to remember that not all of your happy creativity will be rewarded with a good brew!
You get scored for your beers (and yes, you can mess up the easy ones too, so careful). The score will affect the price of your beer. You can raise the price, sure, but that doesn’t meen your customers will be happy about it. Or willing to actually pay it. 💰
So, easy.
Good beer = money 💸
And you’re gonna need the money to buy more ingredients to make more beer… You know how that works. Also, money’s important for buying better decos and expanding your little pub into something bigger.
So, get out there and start thinking what to add to the beers you make. And at what point in the brewing process. You’ll learn in time, we’re sure of it!
