More about beers!

India Pale Ale, most commonly known as IPA, is one of the most popular styles of beer ever. And because it is so popular, it has, like, a million different variations. Today we’re gonna look at the West Coast variant, which is one of our favorites.

Why is it called a West Coast IPA?

Because this one was first brewed in various states along the Pacific Ocean, and they also used the hops grown in these areas. So, West Coast seemed like an appropriate name.

And what exactly makes West Coast IPA different from the original? It’s bitter. Like, oh boy ass-kicking bitter. The aroma is boldly hoppy but when drinking it you can also detect some citrus notes in there. More in the video!

What’s American Amber Ale?

Let’s continue our beer lessons!

What’s American Amber Ale?

The name Amber Ale was trademarked in the UK in 1876. When it expired in 2002, many breweries started using the name for their darker colored Pale Ales. American Amber Ale is produced using amber malt, or in some cases crystal malt. It results in a beer generally ranging from light copper to light brown in color.

Let’s see more in a video!

What other beers would you like to learn more about?

A horse walks into a bar… 🐴 (Punch line inside!)

Rum Diaries? Naaah, BEER Diaries! Welcome to part 2, where we’ll grab a pint and talk about the NPC customers. So what is it for you? APA? IPA? Lager? 🍺

What is it for you, Mrs. Horse?

But first - WE HAVE A TWITTER!

(How about you give us a follow?)

What were we…? Ah yes. The customers. One of the most important things in a game about running a pub. To make them the best way we could, we considered pretty much every demographic that you’d find in a California brewpub.

🧔🏿‍♂️ We have young people and old people…

💸 We have people who are better situated and those who aren’t that lucky…

👩 We have people of all ethnicities and genders!

How do we make the them feel alive and special?

First of all, every customer has their own preferences. They like different kinds of beers, and they expect different kinds of prices. You’ll know that because they’ll tell you. Also, after leaving your pub, they’re likely to leave a review, which you can read, and score your bar.

Some of them will tell you things you didn’t necessarily ask for…

If you want to get more customers of a certain type, you’ll need to adjust your strategy. But it’s completely up to you if you want to have a fancy, expensive bar or a cheap joint that waters down the beer!

We’ll also have a handful of… special guests. 🐴

You already saw Horsey McHorseface. If you follow our publisher’s Twitter, you could also meet Mr. Albert Ien.

Say hello to Al!

We won’t spoil more at this time, but make sure to follow us and add Brewpub Simulator to your wishlist. It’s literally the best way you can support indie devs without spending a dime.

Oh, about that punchline we promised? 👇

A horse walks into a bar and says “One beer, please.” The bartender doesn’t know what to do, so he goes to his boss and says, “We have a horse that wants to buy a beer!” The boss says, “Charge him twice the price, horses don’t know the price of beer.” The bartender does exactly that and says to the horse, “You know, we don’t get many horses around here.”

The horse replies, “I'm not surprised, just look at your prices!”

Learn about APA + see the new gameplay

Brewers, how well do you know your beers?

Crafting beer requires mastery of the topic but it’s never too late to learn more!

Lesson #1 – What’s APA? American Pale Ale is a staple of beer crafting today. It was developed in the United States around the 1980s and is a variation of the British Pale Ale. See more in the video:

Aaand, we have some more news straight from the game! We’ve been visited by new customers. And everything is fine. Positively stable.

I Made Beer Chess and I LIKED IT 👍

You heard about Rum Diaries, but what about 🍺Beer Diaries🍺? We want to share some fun stories from the development of Brewpub Simulator. Here’s the first one. It’s titled…

How Brewpub got a bit more crazy than we expected

As you can see, the decoration system lets you do a lot of things. Some of them we would never do in real life.

At first, we wanted to be all serious and stuff. But while setting it up, we initially didn’t place many limits, and, uh…

It turned out that it was a lot of fun! 🦄

Grass walls, floor and ceiling? Yeah, we have them.

Beer chess club? Why not? ♟️

It’s a cherry on top of mostly sane things you can do in the game, like setting the tone you want for your brewpub, from a chill aunt-friendly pub to a rough trucker bar. Sky’s the limit, truly. If you want a gold-plated bar, you can have it. Metal walls or purple windows? All doable. We have a huge number of customization options available and it’s only your decision, and your imagination, that will direct the process. 😮

You can do practically anything!

At first, we planned to limit you to ceiling textures, wall textures and so on. We thought it would be best to narrow down where exactly you can place your table and seats. But it’s simply much more fun to let you do whatever you want.

So yeah, you can go crazy. It’s your pub after all! 🍺

Yours
Rox ✌️

USA celebrates National Beer Day + The last day of the contest!

Good day, Brewers!

And it is a good day indeed, as the USA is now celebrating National Beer Day, but more on that in a minute.

First, we wanted to remind you that today is the last day of our Gleam contest! The contest ends at midnight CET, so there’s still some time left to collect more points and boost your chance to win a free key for Brewpub Simulator.

And now, happy Beer Day!

But why do we celebrate the best alcoholic drink ever on this exact day?

The US National Beer Day is actually a very important holiday. It marks the anniversary of the unofficial end of the Prohibition Era.

In 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt took the first step toward ending Prohibition and signed a law that allowed people to brew and sell beer and wine in the United States. The Cullen–Harrison Act, named for its sponsors, came into effect on April 7 of the same year. It wasn’t a complete end of prohibition but after a long while alcoholic beverages below 3.2% alcohol content were once again legal for consumption.

The National Beer Day was established by Justin Smith, a Richmond, Virginia Craft Beer Examiner, and his friend Mike Connolly from Liverpool, England, who created a dedicated Facebook fan page. Since then the holiday has been taking place every year without fail.

So, in the wise words of Franklin D. Roosevelt, "I think this would be a good time for a beer."
