Introducing The Angler Community Tracker

Greetings, Anglers!

Get deeper insights into the team’s work with the new Community Tracker, which will be replacing the Known Issues List. Look forward to more frequent updates around new and future content, gameplay improvements, and bug fixes.

CHECK IT OUT

Why are we doing this?

We receive a lot of questions about what’s next for the game, as well as feedback on content, bugs, and improvements. With this tracker, which will be curated and updated on a regular basis, we want to make our plans for the game more visible and accessible to players. This means that the current Known Issues List will be retired in favor of this tracker. Additionally, the Community Tracker will serve as a source for all the latest game news, PC and console-specific.

How do I submit feedback?

We’re actively monitoring and collecting feedback and reported issues across social media platforms, so please continue sharing with us! A great way to get involved is by joining the Discord Server and visiting the #game-suggestions and #bug-reporting forums.

Thanks for your support! We can’t wait to hear what you think of the new Community Tracker.

Game Update 1.2.7 is live!

Are you ready for Game Update 1.2.7? It's full of new content, improvements, and bug fixes based on your feedback. Let's dive into the patch notes!

Highlights

Legendary fish have been spotted in Norway!
See if you can hunt down and catch the Northern Pike, dubbed Kalle Paul the Dominator, as well as Speilfinne the Atlantic Salmon, and Store Henrik the Burbot.

Dev Team’s Notes: We loved the reaction to the Legendary Fish that were originally introduced to Golden Ridge Reserve and we've enjoyed watching you try to find them each week. We're equally hyped to see how you get along with the new trio in Norway!

Multiplayer text chat is here!
Now you can easily share your favorite fishing spots and angling tips with others.

Dev Team’s Notes: Now you can send messages to anyone within the same multiplayer session to help each other out and share the best tips. Introducing this feature marks another milestone in our efforts to further improve the social aspects of the game.

Features and QoL Improvements

Gameplay

The Secure Catch mechanic has been added as a new part of the fishing gameplay. The goal was to make the catch phase more engaging and to define it as a distinct stage of the fish fight for heavier specimens.
Dev Team’s Notes: To increase the satisfaction of landing the catch during the final stage of the fight, we have introduced an interactive layer that adds a sense of tension to the experience. This layer also prevents any 'surprise' or 'instant' catches. In the future, we'll be making more changes to this phase, with improvements to the catch animation flow in the works.

Xbox Gamepad Rumble and Vibration have been added to a number of key events in the game to improve the core fishing experience and provide useful feedback for those who play on an Xbox gamepad.
Dev Team’s Notes: This is just the first step towards offering a comprehensive set of Rumble and Vibration effects, along with support for a broader range of gamepads. This update focuses on the core fishing experience, giving you feedback about casting, nibbling, striking, and fighting. In future updates, we'll be bringing more effects to the game, along with broader support beyond Xbox Gamepads. Note that other gamepads may trigger rumble in some instances, but experiences will vary until we add full support over time.

An unsuccessful strike now keeps the float or lure in the water instead of snapping back to the casting pose, allowing you to continue fishing without having to recast.
Dev Team’s Notes: We know it was frustrating when you missed a strike and had to recall the line, so we've changed the behavior to keep you fishing.

To address additional community feedback, we have made adjustments to the compatibility of baits, lures, and fish species to increase the likelihood of a successful bite. We have also expanded the baiting radius for float fishing, and curious fish will now move toward the bait faster.
Dev Team’s Notes: Although we aimed to narrow down the specificity of the baits to target certain fish species, we know that we unintentionally made it difficult to get a bite in general. However, instead of reversing the changes, we have implemented balancing adjustments to various systems to increase the overall bite rates. We are constantly evaluating this area based on community feedback and data. In this update, you will notice that fish are attracted to bait from a greater distance, move faster toward the bait when curious, and have broader bait compatibility where applicable.

The calculation of line tension has been improved in order to provide a more accurate reading during fish fights. There will be fewer sudden spikes in tension, resulting in a more nuanced representation of what the fish is doing while on the line.
Dev Team’s Notes: To support the Secure Catch feature we've reworked some of our tension calculations to make the line behavior more realistic. It should allow you a little more flexibility when picking your line, so you can try weaker lines on heavier fish, with more confidence that you can use the drag to control the tension better.

Progression

The Local Souvenir Shop is now open in Norway! Work towards unlocking ten new unique cosmetic items to stand out in a crowd.
Dev Team’s Notes: We saw how you enjoyed dressing up as Bigfoot and Clayton in Golden Ridge Reserve, so we've added some fun Norway themed cosmetics. We believe the Astrid’s Jumper is going to be a firm favorite, and we hope that the Monster Mask isn't too scary for anyone (that April Fool’s Day joke got a bit out of hand).

Stability

General improvements have been made to how we utilize VRAM and how it is allocated over time.
Dev Team’s Notes: These changes should result in a decrease in the amount of VRAM needed overall (relative to resolution and settings) and over time VRAM usage shouldn't increase as much as it did previously. This should improve both performance and stability.

Customization

We've expanded the customisation options with a broader selection of hair colors and most importantly beards and mustaches!
Dev Team’s Notes: We heard your requests for more customization options, specifically the beards (should we blame Jaxy for it?). So we've added not just a beard, but also a mustache and a new selection of colors to pick from.

UI

Add markers and labels to your map to easily recall where the different fish species and ranks are in each reserve.
Dev Team’s Notes: Way markers are useful for getting to a destination, but it was hard to mark up the map to easily remember where the best fishing spots are. Now you can add up to 40 markers, with 8 different icons and labels for all the individual fish species.

Full Patch Notes

Stability

  • This update has resolved some of the most frequent and disruptive stability problems.
  • The issue with the rod being able to come apart while casting or during a fish fight and getting the character locked in place has been resolved.

Gameplay

  • Fishing missions in Golden Ridge Reserve now spawn more fish than just the targeted fish, bringing it in line with the fishing missions in Trollsporet Nature Reserve. Now it's possible to target other fish while the mission is active.
  • We’ve changed how the 'Cut Line' feature works. Outside of a fish fight it is now labeled as 'Quick Retrieve'. When triggered it will play an animation showing the retrieval of your fishing line.
  • An issue with swapping seats on a boat while accidentally holding down the 'Cut Line' button after the action had been completed has been addressed.
  • It is no longer possible for a fight to remain active even though the fish has become unhooked after spooling the player.
  • A selection of boat spawn locations have been updated in both Golden Ridge Reserve and Trollspret Nature Reserve to make them easier to access.
  • The Juvenile Grayling wasn't possible to catch since patch 1.2.4. This has been resolved.
  • The player will no longer be put in a crouched position due to auto-twitching while reeling in all the way.
  • Auto-jigging would not work when using a jig head and soft plastic, it now works with all lures.
  • An issue with passengers being unable to switch views while riding in a boat has been fixed.

Visuals

  • The water beyond the Cruise Ship in Norway has been restored, along with a series of fixes to smaller water seems and glitches across both reserves.
  • The bait no longer clips the float on the line if the depth is set to a low value when using the larger-sized float.
  • Foam on the water's surface is now rendering as intended in all locations in both Golden Ridge Reserve and Trollspret Nature Reserve.
  • Fixed a bug with the camera showing the inside of the driver’s head for a few frames while cycling camera viewpoints in vehicles.

Multiplayer

  • The player’s avatar (and view) no longer turns around 180 degrees after finishing using a looping emote in multiplayer.
  • The player is now automatically connected to an online session after completing the tutorial and transitioning straight into an online session.

Progression

  • Solved an issue with Photo Challenge 1 in Diamonds Peak (Golden Ridge Reserve) becoming unresponsive unless you spawn and enter a car.
  • The lump of coal in the Narrative Mission has had its proximity audio fixed.

UI

  • A number of text misalignment issues when playing in Japanese or Simplified Chinese has been resolved.
  • An issue with the input getting stuck when using a controller to toggle the torch on and off in the Quick Menu has been resolved. Additionally, the Torch UI icon now updates as intended in all states.
  • The activity feed messages could previously appear on top of each other when entering a multiplayer server with 8+ players, this no longer occurs.
  • We fixed an issue with the individual settings not updating correctly after using a custom video preset and switching to a predefined preset.
  • The correct list of fish species is now present in a habitat when viewing the map while interacting with a waterbody.
  • Various problems with selling multiple items in a row have been fixed.
  • A back button has been added to the Quick Wheel to allow for easier navigation through the radial layers.
  • The "Find Friend" option in Apex Connect had no character input limit, allowing for text to overlap within the UI. A limit has now been set to match the Apex Connect Account name’s maximum length.
  • Switching languages and backing out the menu unintentionally presented both the Privacy Policy & EULA in the newly selected language. This has been fixed.

Audio

  • We addressed an issue with vehicles missing engine audio for remote players if a vehicle was spawned in a different location.

Hotfix 1.2.5 | Performance and Stability Improvements

In this hotfix, we’re addressing the stability and performance issues introduced in Patch 1.2.5, as well as adding some gameplay and visual adjustments. You can read the details below.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a rare audio-related crash introduced in Patch 1.2.4 that occurred when exploring Golden Ridge Reserve.
  • Changes have been made to how the user interface utilizes VRAM to improve both performance and stability.

Performance

  • Improvements have been made to memory usage when transitioning between reserves and fast traveling within a reserve to improve performance over time.

Visual

  • More instances of visual issues with specific water bodies have been addressed.

Gameplay

  • Updates have been made to a number of boat spawning locations in Trollsporet Nature Reserve to improve their positioning in the respective docks.
  • Passengers on a boat in multiplayer are now able to cycle cameras freely whilst being driven around.
  • Cutting the line while fishing on a boat will no longer result in changing seats if the interaction key is held after the action.
  • Fixed an issue that saw jigging and twitching not working with jig heads and soft plastics.

Happy fishing, Anglers!

Major Patch 1.2.4 is now available!

Patch 1.2.4 marks an important milestone in our journey to act on community feedback. Let’s check out the details!

Highlights

• Vehicles now have multiple fixed cameras to cycle between while exploring.

Dev Team’s Notes: Previously, you were limited to a single first-person perspective in the vehicle. That default view, even after manually widening the field of view, was too restrictive and confined for many players. There are now multiple fixed cameras around the vehicles that'll offer better visibility and comfort.

• The 'Quick Wheel' has been added to make Quick Chat and Emote selections more convenient and faster to execute.

Dev Team’s Notes: The Quick menu, while convenient, didn't scale well to having more content. As we've begun to add more chat lines and emotes, it started to become cumbersome. The new wheel will allow easier and faster access to all of the social inputs.

• The map now has interactive filters, colored symbols, and icon clustering to make it easier to read and use.

Dev Team’s Notes: A selection of changes have been made to improve the map, with filters allowing you to customize the elements that are presented on it. The icons are colored by type to make things more legible. They also cluster dynamically to sit alongside one another in circumstances where they would have previously overlapped.

Features and QoL Improvements

Gameplay

  • A new 'Rod Tracking Strength' accessibility setting has been added to allow you to choose how much you want the camera to track the movement of the rod relative to the fish.

Dev Team’s Notes: Now you can adjust the new slider to tailor the camera behavior to your preference while fishing. This allows you to track the movement of the rod directly, and stay static-focused on the fish or anything in between.

  • A collection of changes have been made to the fishing line to improve both its appearance and its behavior.

Dev Team’s Notes: The line behavior has been updated so that appropriate line types float realistically on the surface of the water instead of sinking, and are now also visible beneath the water as well as above. The visible thickness of the lines has been changed too where appropriate.

  • A new accessibility option has been added that allows you to switch reeling to be a toggle rather than a hold action.

Dev Team’s Notes: We've been feeling the fatigue on our fingers for those longer fights, so we’ve provided the option to make the act of reeling a toggle. This will hopefully make for a much more relaxing experience!

  • Jigging and Twitching can now be performed by holding a button in addition to being able to perform the motion manually.

Dev Team’s Notes: Constant movement of the rod was needed to replicate the jigging and twitching techniques This could begin to feel tiresome after a while, so we've added the ability to press and hold buttons to replicate the actions easily with much less effort.

  • The compatibility of baits and lures with all of the fish species has been updated to provide a more authentic experience.

Dev Team’s Notes: Previously, the compatibility of the baits and lures with our fish species was too broad, meaning most fish would be attracted to most baits and lures. This made it hard to target specific species, as well as create unrealistic scenarios - the changes here will resolve both of those key problems.

  • The Diamond spawn rates on Trollsporet Nature Reserve for both the Zander and Bream have been increased to make them easier to find and catch.

Dev Team’s Notes: By looking at the live data we were able to observe that both Zander and Bream in Norway were being caught very infrequently, so whilst they were spawning the rates were too low compared to other fish in the reserve. Rates have now been increased slightly to give you a better chance of landing one.

UI

  • It is now possible to re-watch the reserve intro videos in the newly updated reserve selection and information menu.

Dev Team’s Notes: If you had watched or accidentally skipped the reserve introduction video it was previously impossible to re-watch it. Now you can watch them as many times as you like via the updated reserve information menu! Also worth mentioning is that we've made them harder to accidentally skip, with an additional button input now needed to progress.

  • Activity Reports used to appear one after another in a queue, this has been updated to a 'feed' style of presentation to show multiple lines of updates at once.

Dev Team’s Notes: Having messages queued often meant you saw messages later than when they happened, so we changed how they appear and provided the option to both adjust the timings of messages as well as being able to adjust the size of the font for the feed (you can of course still filter or turn them off too).

  • The last used vehicle in the vehicle selection menu now appears at the top of the list so you can easily select your favorite vehicle each time.

Dev Team’s Notes: More variety means more ways to tailor your vehicle just the way you like it, but it also means it’s become more cumbersome to find your favorite options. We’ve added this feature so you can spend less time searching and hit the road faster.

  • The option to toggle the user interface on and off during gameplay has been added.

Dev Team’s Notes: There are many striking views in Call of the Wild: The Angler just waiting to be photographed, but we understand that the inability to hide the UI can kind of ruin the immersion. Now you can hide any overlays with the tap of a key to take a stunning image or explore the reserve with a UI-free display!

  • It is now possible to listen to voiceovers for collectibles immediately upon pick-up during gameplay instead of having to find it within the menus.

Dev Team’s Notes: Getting taken out of the experience to be forced to listen to a voiceover whilst stuck in a menu is never fun, so we've made it possible to listen to that audio as you're exploring.

Audio

  • A series of new options have been added to the Strike SFX setting to give you more tools to refine the audio experience.

Dev Team’s Notes: We previously gave you the tools to disable the nibbling and strike audio cues, but there was also feedback about the sound of the rod during the strike phase. It's now possible to choose which combination of gameplay audio cues you want to have enabled.

  • A few small changes have been made to the audio to enrich the experience with bespoke music for the Norway Lookout Towers and an update to the audio queue you hear when leveling up.

Dev Team’s Notes: The audio team is always keen to keep refining the experience, so we hope you enjoy the updates!

Visuals

  • We've increased the tessellation of the water, which allows us to increase the details of the water nearer to you, creating a more realistic water appearance.

Dev Team’s Notes: We've increased the number of polygons that the engine uses to construct the water, creating a smoother and more detailed representation. We also focused on simulation optimization, so it should not only look better but also increase FPS performance.

Multiplayer

  • Two additional emotes have been added; "I don't know" & "Pretender".

Dev Team’s Notes: We've seen how players have enjoyed using the emotes since their addition, and we're pleased to add two extra free emotes to the game that'll you have immediate access to.

  • A new category of chat lines has been added called 'Gameplay', along with a few more lines having been added to the 'Fun' category.

Dev Team’s Notes: While we're busy working on in-game text chat we hope you’ll enjoy these new quick chat options!

  • When browsing the store you now decide when you want the shopkeeper to talk to you about the selected items.

Dev Team’s Notes: The super chatty shopkeepers in Golden Ridge Reserve and Trollsporet Nature Reserve finally learned to read the room and will only talk to you when you choose to hear from them. Even we needed a break from their loud advertising.

Performance

  • Performance has been improved on minimum and recommended spec PCs.

Dev Team’s Notes: We know that performance isn't as good as it needs to be and we've made some great gains in this update!. This is an ongoing task, so stay tuned for more information as we continue these improvements.

Full Patch Notes

Gameplay

  • Resolved a series of instances of missing or mismatching collisions, and some cases of floating objects in Norway.
  • After catching a fish on a boat the player’s position would be rotated 180 degrees to face the wrong way. This has now been resolved.
  • Fixed a number of vehicle spawning locations that saw the vehicles being put in unrecoverable situations.
  • To minimize the frustration of losing a fish in the last few moments of a fight, we have disabled line snaps upon intersecting with the boat, as we observed too many people losing fish in the final phases of the fight on boats.

UI

  • “Hold/Press to Skip” functions have been added to the videos, and the rewards screen, to avoid accidental skipping.
  • Email addresses are now obscured to avoid accidental sharing on streams.
  • Backing out of the 'Customization' and the 'Storage' menus in the shop no longer causes the shop menu to close completely. Instead, you’ll be taken back to the shop’s main menu.
  • Fixed the journal popping up incorrectly up on Norway fishing missions.
  • Player cursors are always on top of map icons now, so they never become obscured. Player cursors can be toggled on and off on the map to avoid any selection conflicts.
  • Snapping to map icons when using a gamepad got improved when navigating the map, allowing for easier and faster selection of icons in general.
  • A key cursor is now present when inputting text, making it easier to type and edit entries.

Audio

  • Volume sliders now immediately adjust the audio levels rather than only after accepting the changes, allowing you to easily adjust the volume to your preference.
  • Collision audio has been added for vehicles. Now you’ll get audio feedback when colliding with in-world objects.

Visuals

  • The fishing line no longer deforms water with movement. Now it only causes ripples on the surface, creating a more natural presentation.
  • The Persimmon Boots no longer clip through the Curtain Call bottoms.
  • Fixed an issue that would see the player’s rod disappear from their hands when changing from a low to medium video preset.
  • Resolved a series of issues in Norway that saw water incorrectly rendering or behaving.
  • The player’s avatar now renders correctly beneath the water within the reward sequence if they are standing in water.
  • NPCs’ hair no longer disappears when the low video preset is used.
  • The incorrect normals on the selection of 'Incognito' tops have been fixed for Body Type A. This resolves the upper body looking skewed when wearing this range of clothes.
  • Fixed a rare bug that saw the players’ rod disappearing when emoting from the Quick Menu.
  • Minor tweaks have been made to improve the draw distance of shadows in Norway to improve appearance and consistency.

Multiplayer

  • Fast Travelling could cause pieces of clothing to disappear from characters when viewed by other players. You can now venture around the reserves without fear of seeing any ‘flashers’.
Improved connection stability when multiplayer sessions are almost full.

We hope that you'll enjoy the content of Patch 1.2.4 and would love to hear what you think about these changes and fixes as we continue to improve the game based on your feedback. Don't forget to check out our Player Council initiative if you would like to get even more involved in our efforts to make The Angler the best fishing game it can be.

Thank you so much for all your support so far!

Happy fishing!
