Feedback and suggestions are sent to us across social media, community servers, and our support portal every week. This is amazing, of course, and we love seeing these insights continue to roll in. Constantly receiving this information from all different directions, however, means that we’re sometimes missing more than we’d like.
This is where the Player Council comes in!
Members of the Player Council will represent the diversity of our community, and share feedback for existing and pre-release content directly with the development team in a focused forum format.
By helping to identify key issues and features, the team will be able to more quickly prioritize updates and content that will improve the overall gameplay experience. This will also hopefully enable us to share updates and content plans with the wider community further in advance.
What’s in it for you?
As a contributing member of the Player Council, you will not only have our eternal gratitude, but the chance to receive various benefits and rewards, including:
Early access to future content
Access to a focused medium for closer communication with the developers
Exclusive role with badge on The Angler official community Discord server
Physical merchandise
And other mystery perks
This is just the beginning of the program and while it will almost certainly evolve over time, being more in touch with our Community will always remain its main goal.
Please note you must be over the age of 18 to join the Player Council, as all participants will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
We’re kicking off February with patch 1.2.3! This update delivers improvements for vehicle collisions, character customization, Scavenger Hunt missions, multiplayer, and casting behavior. It also addresses a number of visuals, gameplay, progression, UI, and multiplayer bugs.
Patch Notes
Improvements
We introduced a series of improvements to address the way vehicle collisions react with in-world objects, allowing players to glance off of things easier.
Dev Team’s Notes:Due to the rugged nature of the terrain in our open words, it was all too easy to end up snagging on an object. We’ve revised how collisions work and made them much more forgiving (and enjoyable!).
We gave the character customization feature a makeover to fix several issues and improve your overall experience.
Dev Team’s Notes:It's now possible to rotate your character, either by dragging them with your mouse or using the right analog stick. Switching between character body types no longer causes visual artifacts. And most importantly, we've re-ordered the customization list, from head to toe (quite literally).
The Scavenger Hunt mission flow has been given a polished. Now you’ll be taken directly to the Journal to see the clues for the next step.
Dev Team’s Notes:The Scavenger Hunts introduced in Trollsporet Nature Reserve required you to manually open up your journal and find the mission to view the next clue. The automated flow now skips this entirely.
Multiplayer sessions have been optimized! Now it will take less time for all players to show up in the game.
Dev Team’s Notes:Before the patch, it would take a few minutes for all players to show up in the game when joining a full session, and we really did not want to keep you waiting for so long to start your fishing adventures with your friends. We significantly shortened that time so you will be able to see other players in the session moments after joining.
The casting behavior has been adjusted, allowing for greater control over the range of your cast based on the speed and timing of your inputs.
Dev Team’s Notes:You should be able to place your cast better than before on both pad and mouse. However, if it is not to your liking, you can always check out the Accessible Cast option via the Settings menu if you would prefer to use a traditional power bar to affect casting distance.
Bug Fixes
Visual
Torbjørn's eyes between the time of 6-7 AM would glow bright yellow. Torbjørn has since visited the optician and had the necessary treatment.
The clue for the second part of the Huldraskogen Scavenger Hunt was partially clipping into a wall. This item has now been repositioned to a safe space.
In specific locations across Golden Ridge Reserve the waves and foam on the water weren't working as intended. This now has been fixed.
Resolved a problem that saw the player's rod remain present on screen when interacting with the shop or lookout towers.
Changing from Low to Medium graphics preset would turn the rod & player invisible locally. This issue no longer occurs.
Gameplay
It is no longer possible to collide with other vehicles when ghosted.
We have adjusted the boat being docked on land at the Northern Båtutleie (Boat Hire) location at Stallojavri lake in Trollsporet Nature Reserve.
The missing collision on the Huldra statue and a selection of rocks in Trollsporet Nature Reserve has been fixed.
UI
Waypoint markers would now reappear correctly in Trollsporet Nature Reserve Fishing Challenges after fast traveling or reloading into the reserve.
The arrows for rotating your character in customization when using a mouse now highlight and rotate the character as intended.
The volume sliders now immediately adjust the audio levels rather than only after accepting the changes, making it much easier to set the right volume balance.
Progression
Fishing Mission Challenge 13 has been fixed so that fish now spawn in the correct area, unblocking progress for this mission.
It was possible to catch the wrong fish and successfully progress a number of the fishing challenges in Trollsporet Nature Reserve. This issue has been resolved.
Multiplayer
Player’s floats in multiplayer now correctly sit on the water's surface in all scenarios.
As always, we would love to hear your feedback. Let us know what you think by joining our Discord server (good company guaranteed!) or interacting with us on social media. We can’t wait to share the exciting details about the next big update with you. ;)
Happy fishing, Anglers!
Hotfix 1.2.2 | Save Data Fix
Hey Anglers,
This minor hotfix addresses an issue with the save data which affected a small number of players following the previous patch. It will prevent further problems with the save files and fix already broken save situations (i.e. when players might have found themselves stuck in the FTUE area).
We were sorry to hear about the issue in the first place and wanted to come up with a solution which would also restore the progress. Please let us know if you encounter any technical problems after this hotfix. The best way to do it is by submitting a ticket on our support page.
Happy (and issue-free) fishing!
Patch Notes | Patch 1.2.1
Diamond fish are no longer as elusive, and objects previously missing collisions and key missions with progression issues have been addressed. Also, the players with motion sickness should find driving around much more comfortable after installing this update. Read on below for the full breakdown.
Patch Notes
Improvements
The frequency of Diamond Fish spawning in the Norway Reserve has been balanced out across all species.
Dev Team’s Notes:Looking at the data and hearing from the Community we realized that Diamonds ended up being much harder to catch in Norway than the Golden Ridge Reserve. We've updated the numbers and made some fixes to make spawn rates more consistent. We will continue to closely monitor our analytics and your feedback to ensure that all fish spawn rates are balanced well in the future.
A small number of objects within the Norway Reserve were missing collisions. These have now been resolved.
Dev Team’s Notes:A couple of objects slipped through the net, but we've caught them all now and that includes fixing up one of the collectibles that had fallen through a rock.
The main narrative mission in Norway had reports of not progressing correctly. The step to 'Find the Rod' saw the key not always spawning after burning the coal. This issue has now been fixed.
Dev Team’s Notes: There was a small chance based upon previous actions for the key not to spawn as intended on the first chapter of the Norway Narrative mission which had blocked a few players. We've been able to isolate the problem and make sure that even if you got stuck there, now you'll be able to go back and progress.
Vehicle cameras have been improved to reduce motion sickness by blending the movement of the camera between the vehicle and the horizon.
Dev Team’s Notes:Players who previously suffered from motion sickness should now feel much more comfortable traversing the rough terrain and choppy waters. We've tested this change with members of the team who previously got affected while driving the 4x4. They confirmed that they no longer feel ill when going on a ride around Golden Ridge and Trollsporet! (No developers were harmed while testing this patch!)
Bug Fixes
Progression
The Daily Challenge asking players to catch 6 Asp of any rank in Norway wasn't tracking as intended, leaving players unable to fulfill the requirements. This is now working as intended.
Visuals
A specific location within Norway saw water being cut short, leaving part of the water body missing. This has now been resolved.
We’re looking forward to hearing what you think about the changes, so please keep your feedback coming! Join our Discord server to share your thoughts directly with developers, and don’t forget to follow us on social media to never miss any upcoming news about The Angler (psst, we have more exciting things to talk about in the future).

Our new reserve is out - welcome to Norway, anglers!
With a new magnificent location to explore, 13 new fish species to catch, 67 new missions to tackle and many more surprises to discover, this new reserve promises to keep you hooked.
What’s more, we’re making Norway free to redeem till January 5th. This should give enough time for all players - veteran anglers or newcomers - to claim this new reserve and add it next to Golden Ridge Reserve in their collection of awesome angling locales.
We’re not done yet! Alongside this new reserve, we’re releasing a new major game update today - Legends. Building upon The Challenger Update, Legends introduces a brand new rarity tier for fish, an emote system and many more improvements directly inspired by our community’s feedback. Let’s discover them all!
Legends | Features & Quality of Life Improvements
Legendary Fish have been added to Golden Ridge Reserve! See if you can find and catch the elusive Legendaries.
Dev Team’s Notes: There are 3 unique legendary fish: Big Larry the Catfish, Sidewinder the Lake Trout and Goldstein the Largemouth Bass.
Emotes are now available from the Quick Menu to communicate and show off with.
Dev Team’s Notes: There are 6 emotes coming with Legends: Hello, Thanks, Jumping Jack, Council Pop, Chest Beat and Cheeky Wine.
New Achievements have been added to recognize your feats and efforts in the new Norway Reserve.
Dev Team’s Notes: There are 5 new achievements to exclusively unlock in Trollsporet Naturreservat.
The Norway Reserve is free to own forever if you add it to your account before January 5th, 2023. However, in case you missed it, know that you’ll still be able to join your friends in Trollsporet if they own it.
Dev Team’s Note: Spending time with friends is one of the best parts of The Angler, so we’ve made sure Norway wouldn’t reduce your ability to fish with buddies.
New Daily & Weekly Challenges have been added for the Norway Reserve.
Dev Team’s Notes: Trollsporet will have its own selection of challenges, allowing you to score even more XP by playing in both reserves.
Lure Physics have been greatly improved, orienting correctly as you reel in.
Dev Team’s Notes: Lures weren’t moving as we intended, so we’ve globally updated their behavior to improve the lure presentation across the board.
Additional Catch Information is now captured on the Catch Reward screen, with the duration of the fight and your account name.
Dev Team’s Notes: We’ve noticed some of our players are a little competitive, so we’ve added more details to help facilitate comparing scores.
A 24 Hour Clock has been added to the map, displaying the time of day or night.
Dev Team’s Notes: The time of day affects the activity of different fish species, so armed with your clock, you’ll be able to better target specific fish.
The flashlight can now be manually toggled on and off via the Quick Menu at any time of day.
Dev Team’s Notes: Previously, the flashlight was automatically switched on and off at fixed times of day. This update puts you in control. Just be aware it won’t be highly visible during the day.
A new glowing float has been added for fishing at night. That way you can clearly see it, even in pitch black conditions.
Imagery has been added to the Game Guide to improve the clarity of the information present in it.
Dev Team’s Notes: The Game Guide within the Journal has had pictures added to make it easier to understand what the tutorials are referring to.
The Save System has been further improved, with auto backup and restore functionality to handle any save corruption.
Dev Team’s Notes: Your progress is important, so we’ve put in additional systems to ensure its integrity remains in check.
Legends | Patch Notes
UI
The option to rebind the reeling input has been restored.
Dev Team’s Notes: We’d like to welcome all the players who use a reversed trigger layout back to the game!
Gamepad binding prompt for “Reeling Faster” has been updated in the tutorial.
The tension meter has had the small vertical lines at the top and bottom of the gauge removed.
Lure and bait preferences that were cropped within the Handbook have been fixed.
If the player runs out of money in the shop, items will now update correctly to inform them that they cannot be afforded.
Fixed an issue that would allow players to attach the same tackle to two tackles equipped to two identical rods.
Issues when navigating the Apex Connect Menus with the controller have been fixed.
Traits in the Handbook are no longer displayed incorrectly after swapping quickly between tabs.
GAMEPLAY
Resolved an issue where Diamond and Gold ranked fish could spawn in bodies of water where they should not.
It’s no longer possible to instantly catch a fish that swims directly below the player. Depth is now factored in correctly.
The Largemouth Bass compatible baits have been updated.
Using the Quick Menu on the boat to switch rods no longer puts you back in the seat.
Resolved the problem with switching camera perspectives when interacting with the shop or vehicle spawners after catching a fish.
Updates have been made to the classic tackle pack rods and reels to correct their stats.
The strike notification whilst luring was sometimes too short to react to. This no longer happens.
The Channel Catfish can now keep up with the reeling speeds of 2 or higher.
VISUAL
Improved the behavior of the float during the casting sequence.
The issue with the day/night cycle occasionally switching and transitioning to the wrong time of day has been resolved.
Specular issues with the wetness volumes on underwater surfaces in the Emerald Lake region have been fixed.
Clayton has had his annual visit to the dentist to have his teeth cleaned up.
Water Buoys are once again floating.
The waterwheel on the wheelhouse at the Watermill location now spins the right way and has had the intersecting post removed.
MULTIPLAYER
Improvements have been made to the replication of other players’ rod bending during fish fights.
AUDIO
Dialogue no longer continues to play if you exit to the Main Menu whilst it’s playing.
We’ve reduced the proximity of remote player fishing audio, so you only hear players when you’re closer to them.
And that’s Legends! We hope you’ll have a blast discovering Norway and all these new additions and improvements we’ve brought to the game with this latest update.

The Angler’s second reserve is coming. Pack your gear and put on some warm clothes, we’re heading to Norway!
Trollsporet: A Gorgeous New Setting
The Norway Reserve, or Trollsporet as the locals call it, is 37 square miles (96 square kilometers) and features three distinct biomes: Nøkkensjøen, Huldraskogen, and Fossegrimfjorden. Full of opportunities for exploration, You’ll find idyllic villages, hidden paths to secret fishing spots, and astonishing views from the tops of its towering mountains. As a perk of the region, you’ll also get to enjoy the midnight sun and the Northern Lights as you explore the wilderness.
The friends we make along the (Nor)way
When you first arrive in Trollsporet, you’ll meet our new Warden and shopkeeper, Astrid and Torbjørn. Astrid can be quite reserved, but if you get her to tell you a story, you might just catch a glimpse of her more whimsical side. Torbjørn, on the other hand, will break out the small talk when you visit his shop looking for new gear to buy. Together, Astrid and Torbjørn make a lovely couple and formidable team that you’ll get to know well during your time at the reserve.
Want Fish? We’ve Got Fish!
In addition to offering a brand new setting to explore, the Norway Reserve features 13 species of fish that are new to The Angler. Set out on a quest to land a huge catch like an Atlantic Salmon or Zander, or go for smaller species like a Roach or Chub. You’ll find all shapes and sizes of fish in these Norwegian waters, including the Brown Bullhead Catfish, Burbot, and European Perch. With the Northern Pike included from our Golden Ridge Reserve, there are a total of 14 species of fish to catch in Trollsporet.
Activities Aplenty
To keep you busy between casts, we’ve included 67 new missions made up of Daily and Weekly Challenges, Geocache missions, Scavenger hunts, and one Narrative mission. You’ll discover unique points of interest, find tucked away collectibles, and perhaps even Troll Rocks. Astrid and Torbjørn will be more than happy to call in some favors if you’re willing to lend a hand.
An Opportunity To Say Thank You
The Angler has grown and evolved tremendously over the past few months. Thanks to the community’s feedback and support, we’ve been able to bring the changes and improvements players wanted to see in our game. Therefore, we believe it’s only fair we share our thanks with you all - by making Norway free to claim till January 5th. This should give enough time for all players - veteran anglers or newcomers - to redeem this new reserve and have a blast discovering it.
