Causa's Demo Evaluation & Results

Hey!

We’re sharing this update to let you know what was the player feedback about the limited-time Demo.

As you may know, the Demo took place by the end of November of 2019. During this intense two-day event, 23 streamers and 379 players from all over the world tried Causa, and we were able to gather the feedback of 173 of these players.

Regarding the location of the players who tried the Demo, 40% were based in Latin America, 31% in the US or Canada, and 25% in Europe. We also had 5% of users from Asia, Oceania, and Africa. The average age was 30 years old, and 95% identified themselves as male.

From all Demo players, 56% stated they play video games over 15 hours per week; 93% have played Hearthstone or Magic the Gathering Arena; and 85% have played other card games. This points out that the players who tried our Demo are highly experienced card game players, who state that their favorite game mode would probably be Ranked.

The overall evaluation of the game was very positive, with an average of 8 out of 10 points, while the game stability was evaluated with an average of 8.5. We’re really happy and proud about this general result! :)

Regarding the different game modes, the experience of playing against the IA was evaluated with an average of 7.8 points, which highlights an aspect that is yet to be improved. On the other hand, the PVP experience was evaluated with an average of 8.5, and the Campaign - which is one of the most innovative parts of Causa - received an average evaluation of 8.3.

Other elements that we definitely need to address are the game balance and the deck-building experience. Even though 58% of the players stated that it’s hard to identify the strongest strategy, the average evaluation of the game balance was 7.6. Similarly, while 66% agreed or strongly agreed that the deck-building experience was satisfactory, this aspect of the game was evaluated with 7.1 points when comparing with other card games.

In terms of the tutorial and the game’s UI, we were very pleased to see they were evaluated with 8.2 and 8 points respectively, and we were also about the amount of constructive feedback we received to keep polishing these aspects of the game.

Alongside the overall positive player evaluation, we were EXTREMELY happy to learn about their opinion regarding Causa’s first Campaign ever. This innovative and challenging single-player draft format was rated with 8.3 out of 10 points, and 83% of players stated that the Campaign was fun, clear and easy to understand. 73% thought the Campaign was challenging; 62% stated they would love to play the same Campaign again; and 89% would like to play more Campaigns!

Players of the Demo stated they would likely recommend Causa to a friend, with an average of 8.3 points on this question. This is as we’re a very small indie team, and the word of mouth will definitely make a difference for our project.

Since the survey also included open questions, we received an incredible amount of valuable written feedback, which pointed out the features and contents that can still be added and improved. For instance, we learnt that the possibility of opening several card packs at once is very relevant for players. All this written comments helped us to plan this late stage of the development, aiming to improve the experience before our next big announcements. :)

We’d like thank and give a huge shout out to everyone who tried the game while the Demo was live, and who took the time to answer our survey. Your feedback has been crucial to help us improve the game. We'll keep working very hard to finish it.

Introducing Hegemony: the original tabletop game based in Causa.

Hey all!

We’re very glad to be back this week with a new update on our Dev Blog! This time we’d like to tell you more about Hegemony, Shadows of Power, an intriguing tabletop game that is set in the same universe than our in-development collectible card game Causa, Voices of the Dusk.

Hegemony, Shadows of Power is a semi-cooperative game of negotiation, shifting alliances, and bluffing, in which each player assumes the role of a powerful Leader struggling to become the new ruler of the Empire.

To achieve this, Leaders must form alliances and use their resources strategically, in order to defeat the other Leaders in multiple challenges that are revealed throughout the game. Players may negotiate and coordinate to win as a group, but they may also deceive and betray each other on their path to victory.

Here you may find the rulebook in English, and also the game’s pitch video:

Even though the game system is completely different from the one you may find in Causa, there’s multiple elements in common, specially in terms of the game’s lore and main concepts. You’ll definitely be able to learn more about the Leaders and the conflicts in this fantasy universe.

Since its early prototypes the team has been working very hard in improving the game. Fortunately this process has been very gratifying because the game has been well received, and was even recognized as part of the Official Selection of the Indie Megabooth at PAX East 2018.

Today, the game is been distributed in Chile by Devir, and will soon be presented in the New Releases Area of the event Juegos en el Parque, which will take place on Saturday, October 19 from 10 to 19 h (Parque Balmaceda, Providencia, Santiago).

As always, any comment or suggestion is welcome! We invite you to follow Hegemony on Facebook, and also stay tuned to the updates of Causa by signing up for the upcoming demos and following the project on all its social channels:

Digging into the data! What we can tell about the Closed Beta of Causa.

Hey all! 👋

We’re back after a brief hiatus on our Dev Blog with some data about the results and feedback we collected during the Closed Beta of our in-development CCG Causa, Voices of the Dusk.

Before beginning, we’d like to thank our +6.100 subscribers, as well as the most active participants of our community, who have gathered on our Official Discord Channel to support the Cause. You inspire us every day to keep working to achieve our dreams! 💟

Without further ado, we’re glad to share some of the most informative data we were able to retrieve during the Closed Beta.

Just for context, the Closed Beta of Causa for Steam lasted for a period of approximately 2 months, covering the months of June and July of 2019. During this period, over 900 users activated their exclusive keys, and around 300 played matches in Causa.

In general, the matches in Causa summed a grand total of 453 hours of play, and the user who played the most surpassed 24 hours of gameplay, with a total of 160 matches. A HUGE shout out to our dear player and streamer Igua for this amazing achievement.

During the whole period, a total of 2.934 matches were played, of which 58% were victories, and a 42% were defeats - including both matches against other players and agains the IA. Considering that a large amount of players focused on playing against the IA during this period, this fact gives us a rough idea of the balance of the game’s difficulty.

Furthermore, we were able to estimate that 23% of the players in the Closed Beta played 10 or more matches, while 5 were very enthusiastic and played over 100 matches. We just love you!

We were also able to retrieve information about the duration of the matches in Causa. Regarding this, we observed that the longest match lasted for 84 minutes. We suspect that someone took the game too seriously, or just fell asleep over the keyboard, as we were also able to verify that the average duration of a match was 14 minutes. The longest victory was achieved in 13 turns, taking about 19 minutes.

Alongside all this data, it was very exciting to discover which was the prefered Leader in Causa during the Closed Beta. In the first place, with a 37% of the preferences, we found Matriara, General of Elyr. She’s not only a great character, but also represents the initial Glory / Aggro strategy in the game, which is very convenient for the players that are just getting acquainted to Causa. On the second position the Spirit strategy stands out with Nilset, Shadow Initiate, who was the favorite Leader for 26% of players.

Finally, we’d like to congratulate our dear player Húsar, who achieved the largest amount of victories during the Closed Beta phase. You surprised us with 96 victories in a total of 130 casual matches!

What do you think about all this data? Don’t hesitate to share your impressions on our social channels, and also make sure to join us for a chat on our Discord Server. Make sure to stay tuned and sign up to be part of the upcoming demos!
