Celtreos

The next Celtreos patch is live!

New Default Weapon “Beam”

The Weaver Series now has its own incredibly cool default weapon (also available in custom arrays)!  The Beam is a mostly-horizontal attack that adds more and more rays of energy as you power up, either over time or by collecting “+” power-ups.  This weapon is initially quite weak but is extremely powerful at maximum strength.  Also, it penetrates any type of barrier, is easy to aim and you effectively gain even more rays by using defenders like the Shadow.  Certain weapons fire default shots at the same time so you may want to try these weapons with Beam (or any other default weapon choice in a custom array) for some interesting combinations!

New Defender Pod, “Trailer”

This is similar to Shadow except it shoots backward instead of forward.  This pod is now part of the Plasma Series.  It is also available in custom arrays, and keep in mind that this allows you to shoot any default weapon backwards: Gun, Laser, Rocket, or Beam.

New Enemies

A new type of enemy ship now appears in two stages, Colony Evacuation and Last Stand.  These small vessels attack from behind, in groups, shooting lasers and dropping bombs.  Be careful!

Artwork and Animation Improvements

As usual, a lot of tweaks throughout the game, and this time you will notice it right at the beginning because even the Options Screen has a cool new background.

Music Updates

A couple of songs have had some minor improvements, and volume has been slightly adjusted to make songs more similar across stage transitions.

Standalone Soundtrack

A reminder, the soundtrack is now available separately on Steam!  See the main store page for “Celtreos” and look under “Content For This Game”.  The latest tweaks to the in-game soundtrack are also present in the standalone soundtrack.

New Enemies

Several stages have new enemies, which are easily recognizable because they have a greenish-blue color.  Beware of their multi-way attacks and ability to evade!

New “Fragment” Items

Every stage now has 3 gold “fragment” items.  By themselves, these are worth nothing; you must find all three to see your reward, a massive cluster of bonus power-ups!  The exact set of power-ups is random: maybe you get a bunch of weapons, a bunch of defenses, lots of points, lots of extra lives or just a mixed bag.

Fragments do not always appear in the same place (though there are only a few possibilities in each stage).  They also vary by stage; they could appear close together or far apart.  Pay attention and don’t miss any!

New Weapon-Destroying Negative Item

A new type of red orb is out there: marked with an “X”, it will destroy your current weapon and reduce your default weapon’s power level to 1!

User Interface Enhancements

When tabbing between buttons in the main Options Screen or elsewhere in the game, keyboard focus is now combined for related buttons (such as “+”/“-” settings or the music play/next-song buttons).  This allows you to use the left and right arrows to easily change values using the keyboard, or use the A and B buttons to change values with a game controller.

Also, a subtle cool-down timer is now displayed in the bottom center of the screen whenever you use a wide-area effect such as Bomb, Lightning, Ray Burst or Time Warp, to remind you of the 5-second delay.

Artwork and Animation Improvements

As usual, a lot of tweaks throughout the game.  Several backgrounds, enemies and effects have been updated slightly to look cooler than before.

Standalone Soundtrack

A reminder, the soundtrack is now available separately on Steam!  See the main store page for “Celtreos” and look under “Content For This Game”.

Celtreos Soundtrack

New Steam Purchase

“Celtreos” Soundtrack

The incredible 20+ song soundtrack of “Celtreos” will be released soon, as a standalone purchase on Steam! It will also be available as part of a bundle that includes the game itself.

The soundtrack is huge…nearly 45 minutes of music in high-quality MP3 format, at an average price of about 27 cents per song (and with the launch discount, 25 cents per song!).

The soundtrack works on any platform (even Windows!) but you need a Mac or a phone to play the “Celtreos” game itself.

Important: The game “Celtreos” already comes with music that plays during the game. The soundtrack is only needed if you want to play Celtreos music while NOT in the game, or if you want to hear the songs while on another platform like Windows.

New “Barrier” Defense

The Weaver Series weapon array has a new defense type, “Barrier” (also available in custom arrays). This rotates as your ship moves, protecting two different locations. It also has a weak attack similar to Armor, and a short-range bounce similar to Deflector.

New Boss Abilities

The “Hyperspace Pursuit” boss now has more attacks.

And More

Several enemy designs have been tweaked, along with explosion effects and other animations. Lots of other minor changes throughout the game.

Artwork and Animation Improvements

A lot of small changes. For example, the “Jungle Cave” stage now has waterfalls! Some artwork is now more detailed, like “Alien Ocean”. A handful of animations and effects have been tweaked, including enemies and weapons. Weapon hits on enemies and bosses are now animated more smoothly.

A big update to Celtreos!

New Stage, New Boss

Celtreos has been expanded with an 11th stage!  Now, immediately after evacuating the city you enter a massive cave, full of jagged walls and huge trees.  Just making it through will be a challenge. And if you do, one of the biggest and most adaptable bosses in the entire game will be waiting for you…

New Weapon Slot

There are now 6 weapon slots instead of 5, allowing you to have another weapon at your disposal every time you play!  Choose one of two abilities for this new slot: “Sweeper” (a widespread but weak penetrating wave) or “Star Strike” (a powerful volley that fires in the opposite direction that you move). Both weapons can be aimed more precisely than other weapons because they always fire in the opposite direction that your ship is moving.

More Music

More great music, fitting the newest stage. The Celtreos soundtrack is nearly 45 minutes long now!

You made it out of the city; now you are trying to escape through a cave. Unfortunately there are still enemies trying to stop you…at least, the ones small enough to navigate these dangerous and unstable passages! Keeping a slow speed is a good idea because you will want to keep every weapon you have to survive the boss!

Works on macOS 10.15 “Catalina”

Since “iTunes” no longer exists in macOS 10.15, Celtreos has been updated to work with the new system “Music” app instead (but only if you enable the auto-next-song feature while the Music app is open). Also, the Celtreos app has now been notarized by Apple as part of new system security features.

New Default Weapon Choice: “Rocket”!

If the “Gun” and “Laser” are not cool enough, how about something that can fire rockets and create clusters of mini-explosions!? You can find it in the main Options screen. All 3 default weapons have the same basic behavior: they auto-upgrade over time and they can be upgraded quickly by “+” power-ups.

Updated Soundtrack and Sounds

Many songs have been enhanced. Some new sound effects too!

Main Gun Customization

You can now select a different default weapon from the main options screen! You can keep the previous “Gun” weapon or choose the new “Laser” weapon. Both default weapons have the same basic behavior: they auto-upgrade over time and they can be upgraded quickly by “+” power-ups.

New Enemies in “Alien Ocean”

The final ocean stage is a lot more dangerous now! There are additional enemies and hazards. Some of these are hard to hit and have a lot of health.

Cooler Explosions…

Explosions are more detailed, and they are usually accompanied by shattering ship fragments with full physics! In gravity, the remains of your enemies will bounce off whatever is around. In space, they will drift away into the distance. The important thing is that you can create chaos.

Updated Soundtrack

Many songs have had minor enhancements.

Sea snakes are pretty terrifying. And what are these weird thorny things that keep scratching my finish? Anyway, blast ’em quick, problem solved! Speaking of blasting, it’s so cool to just send bits and pieces flying everywhere…
