The April update for Chaos on Wheels is here. For the April update, we did manage to do a lot of development, so let’s get started. 🏁

PLOWING



A plowing?! You must think we’re sh*t crazy if we implemented plowing. Well worry not 😉 We just didn’t have any idea how to name this feature, and because it feels like plowing through moveable and destructible objects, we come up with this name. It’s actually pretty fun! 🚜💥



STEAM ACHIVEMENTS



Many say this one’s good. Maybe because there is no better feeling than knowing what you do will be rewarded. Maybe because there is something good about looking back at what you accomplished? Maybe 🤷‍♀️ Either way, we got you. We added 20 initial achievements for you 🎖 Once we polish other things, you can be sure we’ll add plenty more.

HELIOS BOSS



I’m sure you’ve heard about our Helios, but what you didn’t know, there is a little secret! You can relax, as we won’t spoil it for you 😉 Just make sure you pay attention in the campaign. We still can show you this awesome screenshot 🔥



AI DRONES



While you focus on the danger on the road, don’t forget to check up on the sky as well. Something might drop from there! 🪂 ‘Cuz Helios is a sneaky one, and has taken control over drones too. They may or may not be dangerous, but one thing is for sure. It’s fun to blow them up 💥



TURRET SHIELD & SHIELD STATION



With the advancement of magnetic energy, Helios created projectile-free shields for its turrets. 🧲🛡



HUD TIPS



Even the best needs sometimes tips. Not everything can be understood on the first look. You can have a tough day, and your brain is just too tired to figure out what to do, and it just wants to blow stuff up. Well, we know that feeling… To ease up, we added some helpful tips on the main board on the HUD. 😊

Monthly Update: March

The March update for Chaos on Wheels is here.
As you might know, we released a demo last month, so we will outline all the significant changes we made for it.

Let’s start with maps.

MAPS



We redesigned all our maps. We started the level design with the principle that the map should be just one big open area. We thought since it’s a driving game, you don’t want to focus too much on avoiding stuff on the map. But we were wrong. ❌ It’s actually way better to do maps with more style and real-world design. It just feels natural. 🌳

SINGLEPLAYER CHAOS CAREER



Uhh, this one is great 🔥 We implemented a full singleplayer career game system.

What is Chaos Career, you might wonder?

Chaos Career is a game system, where players manage their own garage with 5 car slots. You, as a player, can buy and sell cars, guns, armor, ammo, and gadgets, you can customize cars, upgrade them, and upgrade equipment. After you have the car of your dream, select your driver, and engage in combat of total mayhem. Earn, cash, experience, and Chaos points to level up, unlock new equipment, and make even more chaos. Don’t forget to complete challenges, and achievements. Climb on the leaderboard of Chaos, and become King of Chaos.

DESTRUCTIBLE



We also made destructible our priority in level design. Simply, more stuff to destroy, more fun to enjoy. 💥💥💥



DRIVER SCIENTIST



🧪 Our beloved driver scientist got a new 3D model. With his toxic ammo as an ability, Dr. John Sick is now indeed sick, if you ask us. ☠

“A Scientist is the world leading expert in bioweapons, and as every team needs a doctor, the Chaos team invited Dr. Sick to join them. John loves good food, fine weapons, and anything that can be seen under a microscope.”

Monthly Update: February

The February update for Chaos on Wheels is here.
As the demo’s release is closing in, we’ve focused our efforts on polishing, improving, balancing, and ensuring the highest quality.

HELIOS' SUPPORT BOTS





We wouldn’t be fair if we don’t give Helios his support cars something awesome, right? So, here it is. Freshly build from the Helios Army’s factory. Futuristic self-driving car armed with two heavy machine guns, a missile launcher, one badass turret, reinforced carbon chassis, a custom build electric engine, and a huge mainframe to power it all. ⚡

CLIFFS - REVAMP





In our goal to improve our maps, based on your feedback, Cliffs got a new look. We added more stuff to destroy, widen some routes, improve the layout, and much more.

HELIOS - UPGRADE





It’s been a long time since Helios got some upgrades, so we decided to give him some. We attached a killplow in front, and trust me, you won’t like what happens if you get in its way. Helios also got two flamethrowers. One on each side of the trailer. Don’t come too close, or you’ll really be burned down. 🔥

AI - UPGRADE





We’re killing it with AI upgrades, and we have to admit, we believe you’ll like it as well. AIs are now way smarter, and optimized. We actually enjoy fighting against them. Sit tight for few more weeks, and you’ll be able to find out how fun bots are. 😋
We improved AIs pathfinding, target selecting logic, aiming, rocket management, and some other smaller things.

We are so thrilled to present you a new Demo version of “Chaos on Wheels” on Steam which is coming out on March 24th.

After 2 years of development, we think it is time to give you guys a piece of cake. We believe that with your help we can continue to develop Chaos on Wheels to make the best out of it and your feedback will keep us on that path.

Monthly Update: January

The January update for Chaos on Wheels is here.
On the art side, maps are still our primary focus. On the development side, AI got upgraded.

AI UPGRADE





AI is a big part of our single-player mode and because of that, we decided to upgrade it before the launch of the new Demo. Previous AI served its purpose but we knew it can do a lot more. After rework and upgrades, AI now has better path finding.. quicker decision-making.. better aiming.. better predictions.. and a lot more.
Not just AI cars received upgrades. Turrets are also much better at predictions and aiming. Once we release a new Demo, you will have your chance to fool the AI 😉

MAP DESERT





Lifeless Desert just got the refreshment it needed. Desert was our biggest battleground and it still is, but now it is covered in old ruins. Our focus was to fill the map with assets but not to ruin the “Desert” vibe. So, we did just that.

“Hot, sandy, and bright desert with just enough life in an oasis to make it worth checking. With turrets and hazards to make it worse, this place is a remote battleground made for the toughest fighters.”

TUTORIAL UPGRADE





As we are getting closer and closer to the release of the new Demo, we decided to refresh our Tutorial a bit. Nothing fancy but we adjusted the map to better match the path of the tutorial and added all new/reworked stuff. We hope it will serve its purpose.. as long as you don’t skip the tutorial 😜

Monthly Update: December

A new year a new update 🎇. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and you are ready to shine in 2023. This update won’t be particularly long but despite the holidays, the Acodeon team brought you a new update for Chaos on Wheels. Another two maps are set and ready for Early Access.

VILLAGE REWORK



The mission for upgrading our maps is still going. This time, Village got reworked upside-down 🙃. We decided to make a brand new layout for the Village and we did it. With a new layout, the map feels more natural.. just a small innocent village surrounded by a green environment. Described in 2 words – small and peaceful. But not anymore. Helios is there and chaos came with him. It is on you now to bring peace once again.

“Once a peaceful place filled with joy and carelessness now is turned into a prison. Now no one is safe while Helios’s army lurks in the streets.”



ABANDONED RACE TRACK



To be honest, Abandoned Race Track was looking too “clean” to be called abandoned. Now when her time came for the polish, we ruined her 😜. The atmosphere of the map now gives a more “abandoned” vibe. Dirty road, garbage on the ground, old barrels everywhere, tall grass, and of course Helios’s army.

“Long forgotten place for car lovers now collects rust and dust. It might be abandoned but it is far from a safe place.”

Monthly Update: November

New month, a new update on Chaos on Wheels!
This month was really focused on maps and optimization. The good thing is we can show you the maps because we have no clue how to present optimization for you 😂

MAP SNOW FOREST CAMP


We’re still on strike with improving our maps, and this time we bring you Snow Forest camp! ❄
Yet another campaign map is reworked, finished, and waiting for the official release of Early Access.

A remote lumber camp placed deeply in the snowy woods now is Helios’ spot for crafting his army. Heavily guarded camp, in the middle of nowhere, with zero chance of help.



MILITARY BASE


We’re proud to present you Military Map for the first time! Created with the latest feedback from you guys, the Military base is the right place to have combat with helios’ army.

In the middle of Chaos Country lies a strategic military base full of weapons, vehicles, and war supplies, which Helios’ army won’t give up easily.



OPTIMIZATION


And of course THE optimization. Get ready for some developer rumbling hehe. 😎
It’s not that the previous state was bad, but we wanted it more optimized so we decided to focus on optimization this month. Of course, the most important are cars and AI which are huge components of the game, so we started there. If you’re at all familiar with game development and the Unreal engine, you probably heard about the famous Blueprints. Like any other indie developer (and not indie *wink* *wink*) we used blueprints for quick prototyping. And who would think sometimes it was good enough so we leave it? Well, little by little it was enough for us to say enough. We rewrite it all (all? okay, most of it…) to C++.
Long story short, it runs faster 😲… yeah, who would guess? xD

The AI was a tough one. It learned itself how to rule over the world and hack Facebook, so we needed it to shut it down and write a new AI. Okay, okay, that was some good bullshit, but how cool that would be? Honestly, our AI was dumb and slow and now is dumb, slow, and inefficient. Jk, jk. Now it’s just dumb and a little bit less slow. We’re still working on AI and hoping to finish optimizing it before the New year. Wish us good luck.

TLDR: we optimized cars, and still working on AI. 😉

New month, a new update on Chaos on Wheels!

NEW HAZARD - FIRE TOWER


It’s been a long time since we added a new hazard, so here is one. A fire tower is a powerful flamethrower in whose way you don’t want to be caught. 🔥🔥🔥



ICE ROAD POLISHING


We listened to your feedback and did some tweaking to the maps. Specifically in this case, on the Ice Road. Added more destructible, implemented landscape effects, polished layout and little bit more 😉



MORE DESTRUCTIBLE


Do you love destructible? We love destructible! Here are some more! 😎



And of course like the last time, we did add some smaller destructible as well, but you’ll have to wait to try it out for yourself 😎

NEW CAR


The new car is here as well. We’re happy to present to you the Mouse! 🚗
The Mouse comes with an empowered I4 engine. Small, fast, deadly. What more do you need? Good acceleration, solid handling, and great cornering.

Monthly Update: September

As we approach release, our changes become more minor in scope, and more detail and polish-oriented. Because of so, we decided to move to monthly updates. 

So, let's start with a monthly update for September 2022. 

Car Imperfections



A lot of people were bothered by why our cars are so perfect. Cars looking like yesterday were on the production line, and now fighting in a harsh environment and yet still looking dope. I guess bullet holes weren't enough, so we added scratches and some other minor details. The more damaged your car is, the more scratched it looks. If you were looking for the rust as well, stay tuned because we'll have a surprise for you 😉

Destructible crops



Have you ever driven by a huge field of corn, wheat, or sunflower and wondered how awesome would be if you could just make a small drive-thru? Say no more, we're here to make that available. We added "destructible" crops 🌻🌽🌾



Animals



Animals are the new members of Chaos on Wheels. How and where you can find them, and what they do, you'll have to wait and see for yourself, because we don't want to piss off PETA, at least before we have to 🤔😂
Hint: it's not something it wasn't before in games 😋 khm... Carmageddon... khm

Destructible buildings



What car combat would be if you can't at least some buildings destroy, right? To be honest, adding complex destructible ain't easy, but we spend some time for you and have a few destructible to show you. Let's hope you'll like it! 😀


We did add some more smaller destructible, but you'll have to wait to try it out for yourself 😎

Valley layout reworked



With all the new stuff we created, Valley map was finally on schedule to receive all the assets it has been waiting for a long time. Hopefully, it wouldn't feel that empty anymore 😉
Valley now has a lot of destructible, nice level layout, and much interesting stuff to check out during your merciless battle. 



Vehicle trails



Landscape deformation



A small detail but awesome is landscape vehicle trails. There really isn't much to tell, just see it. Wow! 🤩



On surface trail



Not every terrain leave deep trails, some have just surface trail. We got those too. 👇

Since we did a lot more minor improvements, we won't be showing them all, but at least we'll name a few of them.
