Beta 2.0 is now available!

Here is the changelog:

  • All new metamorphoses available for 11 different species
  • Level cap raised on all base species, including elementals
  • Added Fay Spirit, along with Bloombud species and Fay Spring creature home
  • Added Moon Spirit, along with Starbud species and Moon Spring creature home
  • Added over a dozen new Blessings - each Chrysalis has a total of 9 minor blessings to choose from

  • Follower Soul item now drops when followers die, refunding some Anima and applied Spirits
  • Added Difficulty levels which unlock after beating the game for the first time

Beta 1.2 is now available for playtesting!

Here are the patch notes for Beta 1.2:


  • Added new Boons, Essences, and Blessings (some featuring BEES)
  • Some Boons now scale with the level of the currently controlled creature
  • Homing ranged attacks no longer follow you across the map when teleporting large distances
  • If you spend any Anima to level up your Symbiont creature, it will become a Follower when you leave it
  • Special Waves and Events will occur more often now
  • Slightly lowered Rockling base Health, increased Defense
  • Slightly Gloom Shard damage, increased Freeze duration
  • Blood of Gaea (basic heal) now heals nearby friendly units in addition to the player controlled creature
  • Fullscreen Windowed mode no longer shows behind the Windows taskbar

Alpha 4.4.3 is now available!

Here are the patch notes for Alpha 4.4.3:


  • WARNING: this is a save-breaking update! Your saves from previous versions will no longer work.
  • Trees and other large obstacles now fade out slightly when creatures and items are hidden behind them
  • Added the ability to keybind "Tab" and numpad numbers
  • Added "Searing Flames" boon
  • You can now see the level of available Followers at creature Homes by hovering over the button
  • Fixed an issue with certain particles overlapping sprites in front of them
  • Tall grass now regrows when corrupted ground is cleansed
  • Tried to prevent BitDefender from quarantining one of the crash logger executables
  • Secret new tileset for the final level - work in progress

Alpha 4.4.1 now available for playtesters

  • Increased range and damage of Shrooms and Confushrooms
  • Fixed several bugs with the mutation system that caused higher level metamorphoses to look strange

Alpha 4.4 is now available!

Here are the patch notes for Alpha 4.4:


  • Added the "Killer Rabbit" attack to Jackalopes which automatically crits when attacking from Stealth
  • Changed the Ram's "Charge" ability to be a straight line charge that stuns and knocks back enemies around the ending tile
  • Luxa gained after beating a level is now based on the number of waves defeated
  • Luxa costs for Blessings have been adjusted
  • All Metamorphosis costs for Growths have been reduced
  • Growths now have a Magic stat which displays on their left-click UI
  • Unlocking new growth metamorphoses now also grants a small amount of Sylva
  • The number of enemy portals that spawn per wave in Levels 3-8 has been adjusted to smooth the difficulty curve
  • The time between waves has been adjusted. Instead of the time decreasing by one minute for each successive wave in a level, there are now 5 minutes before the 1st wave, and 4 minutes between all further waves in each level.
  • The amount of Sylva refunded at the end of the level (or by manually refunding) is now 80% of the full cost of the growth(s), up from 50%
  • Ability tooltip now shows Damage Type (Magic or Physical)
  • Ability tooltip now displays the Pulse Rate for Beam attacks
  • Sap Life now does Magic damage as intended
  • Slightly lowered Rock Spit's Power
  • Spawning and Charm abilities can no longer be used after the level has been won
  • Fixed some issues with non-16:9 window sizes
  • Fixed some abilities having Power too low
  • Fixed random crash when starting a new game after changing the window size

Alpha 4.3 now available

  • Improved graphics performance, especially on lower spec machines and those without dedicated GPUs
  • Fixed major bug when playing on an AMD graphics card

Alpha 4.2 is now available

Alpha 4.2 is now available! Here are the latest patch notes:


  • IMPORTANT: this is a SAVE BREAKING update - previous game saves are not compatible with this game version
  • Additional key bindings now available: spacebar and up to 6 additional mouse buttons
  • Stone of Protection now blocks ALL harmful effects when hit by an enemy ability
  • The tile-based effect of Explosive and Poison Essences is now a timed explosion
  • Life Essences can now be applied to friendly creatures
  • Reworked damage scaling and calculation so powerful abilities scale faster as player stats increase
  • Venopod now does more damage but has a slightly longer cooldown
  • Prevent very high level enemies from spawning in lower game levels
  • Luxa gained after each level is now affected by the
  • percentage* of Health the Chrysalis lost
  • Slightly increased the amount of Sylva produced by fields as the player progresses to higher game levels
  • Tweaked cooldowns and damage of monster growths (Obelisk, Egg Vessicle, Tainted Stump) for better balance
  • Fixed several bugs with Stealth (thanks Snorlaxxo)
  • Several UI and menu fixes
  • Many crash fixes (thanks to all playtesters, and congrats to Metalliferous for winning the Bugstalker Discord title!)

Alpha 4.1 Playtest Release

We have finally added achievements, as well as some fun new Major Blessings for each Chrysalis. There have been some substantial balancing tweaks for the early game, so please feel free to offer feedback about your experience with the changes.

Here are the patch notes for Alpha 4.1:


  • Added Achievements
  • Chrysalises must be unlocked now (by getting certain Achievements)
  • Added all new Major Blessings for each Chrysalis - these apply directly to the player
  • 3 Sylva and 3 Anima now spawn at the beginning of the 1st level
  • Homes will now spawn a new friendly creature if all of its previous spawns are killed
  • Bruiser attacks now stun and do more damage, but have a wind-up time, making them avoidable
  • Earthvein now increases the percentage of max Health healed by Blood of Gaea to 80%
  • Minor bug fixes and UI refinements

Alpha 4.0 is now available for playtesters!

Alpha 4.0 is the largest update we've done so far. Here are the patch notes:

- Introduced new items called Essences which have different effects depending on how/where you use them.
- New Grow Mode which pauses the game while you're building your defenses and using items.
- New growth type, Fruit, that attracts monsters to attack it.
- Creature Homes now offer items you can buy with Anima.
- You can also spend Anima to have any friendly creature become a Follower (click the creature to see the cost)
- Followers now come with you between levels
- Monsters sometimes drop Healing Globes that heal your Symbiont and all nearby friendly creatures
- Rabbit Hide is now Stealth - you can move while invisible
- Frost Spirit now Freezes by default, instead of just Slowing
-Added a new default ability: Wisp's Return. This will return the player and any of their followers to the Chrysalis, usable once every 2 minutes.
-Added an ability charge bar for abilities with a delay (e.g. Wisp's Return)
-Players can now click on units and hover over items/metamorphoses in the UI to view relevant info while the game is paused. Players are still prevented from moving, attacking, growing, etc. while paused.
-Reworked the formula for how many portals spawn during waves - earlier waves have fewer portals now
-Added a notification when a special/boss wave is incoming
-Decreased stats of Hex Frogs
-Decreased damage of Cursed Lotus' Toxic Burst. Increased Cursed Lotus' health by 25%.
-Increased Web duration from 12.0 to 20.0 seconds
-Changed Guardian's Path boon to send any friendly creature back to the Chrysalis, lowered cooldown to 30 seconds
-Added new growths to each monster faction which spawn inside enemy areas during waves. Some growths spread corruption (enemy ground cover), defend enemy portals, etc. The player will have more obstacles to overcome between waves.
-Added a new default ability: Wisp's Return. This will return the player and any of their followers to the Chrysalis, usable once every 2 minutes.
-Players must now purchase items from creature Homes using Anima, but these can be bought at any time, rather than the current 4 minute wait to get more resources
-Players can now click on units and hover over items/metamorphoses in the UI to view relevant info while the game is paused. Players are still prevented from moving, attacking, growing, etc. while paused.
-The health of all Chrysalises has been increased, but damage lasts between levels (Chrysalises no longer heal to full health between levels)
-The calculation of Luxa has been changed and all Blessing costs adjusted accordingly
-Each Spirit now has an associated immunity, e.g. Fire Spirits offer Burn immunity
-Reworked the formula for how many portals spawn during waves - earlier waves have fewer portals now
-When the player spawns a creature from a Home, it becomes a follower rather than simply guarding the Home
-Added a new effect called "Wither" that replaces the "Attack reduce" effect. Wither reduces both Attack and Magic stats by 50%
-Modified several abilities to be activated rather than passive
-Decreased base Energy regeneration rate
-Reworded some parts of the How To Play guide and added new pages about the ability UI and creature homes
-The creature/monster AI is now capable of using more abilities at appropriate times
-Updated the crash handler to help me find crashes more accurately
-Reworded some parts of the How To Play guide and added a new page about the ability UI
-Fixed bug that caused waves to spawn higher level monsters than intended.
-Fixed crash when using Flame Pixie
-Minor UI/graphical fixes
