Winter Holidays Event!

Dear Village Elders,

During this event (22 Dec-5Jan) Santa will visit your village during the winter nights and give you presents that you can open once the day comes (7.10h). You will have to build a Christmas Tree for him to come, just hover and click on the big christmas tree on the bottom right on the UI, for more information.

Some presents give you resources, and others will give you unique gifts.

If you finish the game during this event, please upload a steam screenshot on the community hub, since at the end of period, the top 5 villager elders will receive a unique reward.

Additionally a few optimizations and fixes have been introduced in this small version, including a fix of endless mode that in certain situations it prevented you to play at 30+ population.

Dear Village Elders,



With this update you can build a School to educate your village children and cemeteries to commemorate those that have fallen.



School (max 1 building)



By assigning a teacher to a school, 10 children can be educated at a time. They will start at 8.00 and leave school at 14.00. At the end of each season/day of school, the kids will get a portion of the top three skills of the teacher. After the kids leave the school, the teacher will be available for other jobs.

Cemetery (max 3 buildings)



Villagers will panic if they see a dead fellow villager in their daily routines. Panic will prevent the villagers to perform duties for several hours, and they will loose morale (speed of traveling, time to complete tasks). Stronger willed villagers will take the bodies to bury them in the cemetery, or in the ground if no cemetery is present.

Cemeteries have limited spots, and once a villager is buried there, you can click on his resting stone, to find what his name was, and the year he past away. Children will also be buried automatically in the cemetery, when they pass away.

By having a cemetery, the villagers will panic less often when somebody dies, and loose less morale.

Update A 2.92 - Endless Mode



My fellow Village Elders,



With this new update, i bring you the much requested Endless Mode. To play this mode, in the difficulty screen, when starting a new game, select Endless Mode.

In Endless Mode you can play as much as you want without the main game objective, but with a population limit of 100, for now. You might get somewhat low fps after 50-70 pop, i will optimize this.

You can also disable the Events (later ill add to disable only negative events), if you already finished the game once, otherwise it's greyout. In the upcoming versions, if you finish the game on Hard difficulty you can also disable combat events after they are introduced.


Misc stuff:



- halloween event has ended, next event is coming on 22 December.
- added 2 new onetime random events total of 14 so far.
- bakery placing has been improved, so you can place it closer to other buildings
- pressing Q, E for next now scrolls to only on visible adult villagers. If you want to find a specific villager, just open the villagers list (Press L) and click on their portrait.
- herbalist will now harvest less plants during Autumn season.
- fixed a bug where winter clothes remained on villagers when not in winter season.

Combat Training! A 2.90b [UPDATED on 9th July]

Updated on 9.07.2020 - A 2.90b:

Save compatible with 2.90 and 2.90a.

- Fixed the problem with road pathfinding
- Fixed problem with hunters getting stuck or other people walking in circles.
- Fixed a bug with AUTO saving in combat training map.
- Fixed a bug with villagers not working in some instances.
- Removed Christmas event for now.
- Scout map finding something message is now bigger to see the full text.
- Several misc tweaks and bug fixes

To celebrate the upcoming summer sale, i released a new game mode, that includes 5 levels to test and learn more about the combat in Civitatem.



To access this game mode, press the Combat Training button in the main menu and follow the tutorial. There will be more updates in the following days and weeks, while preparing to introduce the combat into the main game, now only available only in this small game mode.

Dev Blog - Combat

Dear Village Elders,

After a few months of silence, i am back with news about upcoming Civitatem combat. I apologize for the lack of updates in the last months, but with latest global emergency and me being not 100% on the work, well things moved slowly, something that i am trying to fix this month and next month with a few big updates.

Combat:

Combat in Civitatem is a semi real time combat with turns. Once engaged in a battle, each side has a turn in real time to execute their offensive actions, then the other side turn comes and it repeats from there. This speeds up when only a few members remain on a side/faction.



During combat, the player has complete control over the combatant villagers, just like a normal RTS. You select them, all or specific villagers, order them to engage, move or engage specific target/s.

Each actor in the combat has its own stats : melee (chance to hit and bonus to damage), defense ( dodge/block - chance of being hit), range skill: chance to hit with range weapons. These skills are rolled against the opponent actor stats and result in hit/dmg/dodge reactions.



Combat stances:

During the combat, or before engagement, each combatant can be switched to different stance of combat:

1) Neutral - no bonuses to attack or defense
2) Aggressive - bonuses to chance to hit, but lowers defense
3) Defensive - bonuses to defense(chance of being hit), but lowers chance to hit

Weapons:

There are several type of weapons each with their skills. On the first engagement villagers will use their tools as weapons randomly, but after crafting specialized weapons and equipping them, things change.

Tier 0 - all tools do low damage and have no skills

Tier I
- iron clubs : low dmg with a chance to stun the enemy for one round
- iron sword : low dmg with a bigger chance to hit
- iron axe: low dmg with with a chance to bleed the enemy for 1 turn
- iron hammer: low dmg with a chance to ignore 50% of the enemy's armor

Tier II - steel weapons, increased dmg, additional skills(axe can destroy shields, etc) and a higher chance to execute their special skills.

Armors:

There are three types of armor. Leather, Iron and Steel, each with a their own protection value + shield that can block a part of the damage, before they break or get destroyed by tier II Axes.

Civitatem - A 2.80 - Christmas Edition!

Dear Village Elders,

With this update, i introduced a new mini game that can be played during the winter seasons. Santa will visit your village during the night and give you presents that you can open once the day comes (7.10h). Forgot to include this fix from previous version:( Hot fix for a bug with Found something confirmation tab and Trade windows, not being in the center of the screen for big resolutions (over 1920).

fixed a problem with - cats and dogs getting stuck in the christmas tree, those rascals:P
fixed a problem with kids not making snowmen during winter.
fixed a bug with Santa giving gifts to roads. He likes roads.
fixed a few gift messages.



Some presents give you resources, others will give you unique gifts and moar!

I also increased the fast forward speed by 20% and executed several minor fixes and performance improvements.

The combat is postponed again, this time to January, since there is still much content to be added, like armours, weapons crafting, new buildings like Prison, Cemetery, Barracks and moar!

Halloween Update A 2.70

Hi Guys,

Updated: Hot fix for a bug with Found something confirmation tab and Trade windows, not being in the center of the screen for big resolutions (over 1920).

Today i released a new update to celebrate the Halloween Spooky week:p

- added some temporary graphics/sprites to celebrate Halloween

- barn missing pop up less often
- double speed reduced a bit
- stockpile collision improved
- added a tweak to prevent hunters getting stuck on the edges of the map or other solid objects.
- improved building spots to prevent builder getting stuck temporarly in the buildings.
- fixed the found something text confirmation.
- fixed a bug where the Female Villager Elder didnt get pregnant.
- fixed the size of the tutorial window on font size + disabled
- added tool tips on the village map for iron,stone and salt.


Still working on combat, it will come next month, or the beginning of December at the latest.

Update A 2.60

My dear Village Elders,

Today i released another a update with some tweaks, bug fixes and some small additions. Expect a bigger update in 2 weeks on 28 October.

Improved/NEW


- add a few new one time events.

- improved the tutorial structure, text and typos.

- builders that are building roads, check more often if a building needs to be constructed.

- elder will try not go to the herbalist during the night if is wounded, so you can use them to do certain jobs.

- fonts for tool tips and other info have been improved

- villagers consume a bit more food and water in the year on normal difficulty.

Bug fixing:

- fixed a bug with the baker taking rawgrain to unfinished WindMills.

- you have no research reminder popups less often.

- fixed a bug with events window and exploration map.

- fixed a bug with the game playing only one music track.

- fixed a problem with building sfx repeating after a building was completed.

- fixed some bugs with the speed buttons, and ingame menu.

- fixed some bugs with the message window on changing resolution.

- fixed a bug with baker icon showing working status when nobody was working at the bakery.


Next update comes in 2 weeks on 28 October. It will be either the first version of combat or more content and features.

Today i released another small update to optimize the gameplay further and fix a few bugs reported by awesome people like you.

- increased the font size for map tool tips
- muted audio when in the in-game menu.

- villages in the region now change their trade goods, once every 12 hours instead of 24.
