Server Maintenance
On the 25th of April 2017, starting from 9:00 CEST (1 AM PDT), the server will not be available for 3 hours due to the introduction of Patch 1.4.7.
Patch 1.4.7 corrects several technical issues connected to game performance.
Cloud Pirates – Officially Released!
Captains!
We are proud to announce that Cloud Pirates have reached the official release with the introduction of Update 1.4 “Stronghold”!
The release of the “Stronghold” update marks a new era for Cloud Pirates – Early Access keys are no longer needed to enter the game, making it available to everyone! Now’s the right time to become a dreaded Cloud Pirate – take control of the skies and prove once for all that you are the best sky captains out there!
The “Stronghold” Update is a combination of Update 1.3 and 1.4, bringing many new features to Cloud Pirates, including:
Enhanced Group Play – three-man groups are returning to Cloud Pirates. Now you and two of your friends can take to the skies and hunt together! Additionally, groups now get Gold and Experience bonuses in random battles – for every player in your group, you will receive 100 Experience Points and 500 extra Gold at the end of the battle!
Cold Silence Map – this frozen wasteland will send chills down your spine! But no true Cloud Pirate is afraid of a little cold. Master the skies above this desolate plain and shatter the ice with the thunder of your guns!
Personal Ratings – now you have the option to compare your performance with each ship with that of other Captains! The names and ratings of the best Captains will be available on a dedicated portal page in the future.
We will also introduce a League system for each ship separately. Captains can compete with each other to advance to a higher League. The following leagues will be available:
These leagues will influence matchmaking by always seeking equally skilled opponents for each Captain and ship. After the Stronghold Update goes live, all Captain ratings will be re-calculated to work with the League system using the new parameters.
Brotherhood Strongholds – changes await Captains who have chosen to ally themselves with one Brotherhood or another. They will now get the opportunity to spend the Meteoric Ore obtained in the past in Convoy Mode on creating their very own Brotherhood Strongholds!
Accumulating enough Ore for a Stronghold will not be an easy task, as the price will be quite steep – 75000 Ore units. Once constructed, it will also be possible to improve any Stronghold with structures such as defensive turrets and more.
Stronghold Siege – this is a new mode called Stronghold Siege. This mode will be available to all Captains, regardless of whether they are members of a Brotherhood or not. It will take place on a special Stronghold map during specific times (much like the earlier Convoy mode).
A special version of this mode will be available for Brotherhoods, who will have the opportunity to fight other Brotherhoods and besiege their Strongholds. The participants will either have to protect their own Stronghold or attack the enemy's. The attackers will be able to damage the enemy Stronghold by capturing points and destroying defensive structures with the ultimate goal of assaulting the heart of the enemy base, protected by turrets. The defenders have to stop them at all costs!
The winners will be rewarded with a new type of currency, allowing them to purchase special customization options – golden cannons. Please note that the Stronghold Siege mode will only be available during specific times and on specific days.
Combat Customization – in the Stronghold Update, Captains with Tier 2 ships or higher will have the option to change their ships' Weapon and Gear configuration after the start of a battle! This will allow experienced Captains to better face their enemies and to adjust their ship load-out for the ultimate performance!
Captains will be given the option to create several pre-sets before the battle. During the battle start countdown and after dying when waiting for the respawn, it will be possible to switch between these pre-sets. Please note that the pre-set switch will carry a cost of several hundred to several thousand Gold, depending on the ship's Tier.
Consumables – Rank 4 Captains of Tier 2 ships or higher will have the option to use one-time consumables, acquired in the Hangar via the Equipment screen. These consumables will activate automatically and will come in three categories:
The consumables available will be unique to each ship and their price will depend on the ship's Tier. As an example, the Black Widow Tier 4 Light Stealth Corvette will have the following consumables available:

Class Guide: Heavy Sniper Galleons
Captains!
Do you ever feel carefully stalking your opponent, staying hidden, striking when the enemy shields are down or when their attention is focused elsewhere, destroy them one shot and disappearing before anyone’s the wiser? Then you’ve come to the right place – the Heavy Sniper Galleon is just the right ship for you!
Basic Heavy Sniper Galleon Characteristics
Ships in Class:
Recommended Tactics
As their class name suggests, Heavy Sniper Galleons are some of the longest range ships in Cloud Pirates. Their frontal damage per shot is extremely high and often carries special properties. On top of that, the Heavy Sniper Galleons are able to use disguise modules – a stealth cloak that makes them very hard to detect for a limited time period. Their stealth and very powerful frontal firepower are, however, compensated by their generally poor mobility and durability. If engaged at close distance, a Heavy Sniper Galleon is usually seriously outmatched and should avoid close quarter combat at any cost.
The recommended tactics should maximize the advantages while minimizing the downsides at the same time. The most important rule is not to draw attention to itself. Heavy Sniper Galleons are second line vessels that need to stay out of range of the opponents.
The key to their successful use is to follow behind the main body of allied ships while looking for the right position with cover. As soon as the enemy comes within view range, engage the cloaking module (which is essential for successful Sniper Galleon use), hide behind the obstacle you spotted earlier and wait for your allies to engage the enemy. Once the enemy has engaged your allies and his attention is focused elsewhere, feel free to pop out of cover and engage any targets of value. The best targets for Sniper Galleons are valuable and fragile ships such as lurking clippers, corvettes and support ships that are trying to stay out of close combat. Tougher enemy ships with shields down also make for good target practice – aim carefully using the Sniper mode and watch them explode after a single salvo from your mighty guns!
Broadside guns, while not as powerful, generally have higher rate of fire along with very high range (unless specifically selecting short-range broadside options). When in a safe position, switching from main weapons to broadside by turning the ship can be used to maximize damage over time.
If engaged at close distance or ambushed by another ship – don’t panic! Use your Shift ability to quickly teleport out of enemy range and engage your cloak while putting as much distance as you can between you and your ambusher. Chances are they will lose your track. If your guns have the “slow” special ability, pop a few of those at the enemy before you disengage to prevent further pursuit. Please note, however, that the cooldowns on the escape abilities are sometimes quite long. Do not immediately re-engage the enemy, lest you find yourself in combat without any means to escape.
When upgrading a Sniper Galleon, focus on frontal firepower, side firepower and ability modules, followed by Helm and Engines. Your hull and shields will always be weak compared to your opponents regardless of upgrades, which is why upgrading them does not have very high priority.
Vigilant (Tier 1)
The Vigilant is the Tier 1 Sniper Galleon that introduces new Captains to the entire sniper gameplay concept.
Frontal Firepower
Broadside Firepower
Abilities
Please note that you can activate either Frost or Fire reinforcement, not both at the same time.
Nimble (Tier 2)
The name of the Tier 2 Sniper Galleon, Nimble, is somewhat ironic as it is anything but maneuverable, but that does not prevent it from wrecking its opponents at long distances!
Frontal Firepower
Broadside Firepower
Abilities
Please note that you can activate either Frost or Fire reinforcement, not both at the same time. The Retarding Impulse adds to the ship’s survivability options.
Striker (Tier 3)
The Tier 3 Striker Sniper Galleon adds more versatility to the class by introducing new types of weapons and abilities.
Frontal Firepower
Broadside Firepower
Abilities
Please note that the Frost Reinforcement and Capacity Boost abilities cannot be activated at the same time. Unlike before, however, Frost Reinforcement or Capacity Boost can be activated at the same time as Napalm Charges. Napalm Charges and Magnetic Charges cannot be activated at the same time.
Oracle (Tier 4)
This massive ship is the ultimate Sniper Galleon of Cloud Pirates. Like other Tier 4s, it has a special Judgment Day ability along with a wide array of weapon and ability options.
Frontal Firepower
Broadside Firepower
Abilities
Please note that these abilities cannot be activated at the same time – Capacity Boost, Electromagnetic Reinforcement and Chain Reinforcement. These abilities cannot be activated at the same time either – Frost Charges, Napalm Volleys and Magnetic Charges. Choose carefully!
Judgment Day Ability
The ultimate Sniper Galleon activity is called “Hawk Spirit.” It flies for 250 vessels at a straight line, dealing 200 damage to all enemies within 30 vessel radius every 0.4 seconds. When released at an incoming line of enemies, it can be extremely destructive.
Conclusion
Heavy Sniper Galleons are fragile but powerful and long-distance kills. Take your time, plan your attacks carefully and watch the unwitting enemies struggle to cope with your tactics.
Happy hunting, Captains!
Introducing Update 1.2 “Death or Glory”
Captains!
We are proud to present the newest addition to Cloud Pirates – Update 1.2 “Death or Glory”
Brotherhood Ladder System – this new game mode allows the Cloud Pirate Brotherhoods to form teams of 7 Captains and participate in special Brotherhood versus Brotherhood combat during specific days and times of the week on standard maps and in standard game modes. Please note:
The best Brotherhood teams will receive a weekly reward (for example, rare crews). Each team will have a special rating (based on a combination of the ratings of each member as well as the Brotherhood). Special matchmaker will put teams with matching ratings together in order to ensure maximum fairness.
Victory over opponents with higher rating will increase your Team’s rating more than a victory over weaker opponents and, vice versa, losing to much stronger opponents will not reduce your Team’s rating as much as losing to weaker ones.
Lone wolf Captains should not worry, however. One of the post-Update 1.2 patches will bring Personal Rating for solo players as well. Each ship will have its Captains split into groups by performance. Achieving better performance and moving to a better group will bring you higher rewards!
Special reward for the First Victory of the Day – the first victory with each ship will now grant double the usual amount of Experience. This bonus resets daily.
New map Fractal Space – Update 1.2 is bringing a new Deathmatch map! The Fractal Space was created by an ancient, insane race, driven by only one thing – the instinct to destroy. To hunt down these demented creatures is a dangerous but lucrative undertaking as each of them contains a core that is extremely valuable on black market – a perfect opportunity for a band of unscrupulous pirate cutthroats!
And last but not least, three-man groups will return in the near future as previously announced!
List of changes in Update 1.2 “Death or Glory”
General
Rating and Matchmaking
We changed the rating and rating-based matchmaking mechanisms. From now on, only the last 30 battles will count (or a bit more if the player is actively playing every day) towards rating and medal calculations and requirements. If a player plays less than 7 battles in 14 days with a ship, that ship is excluded from his rating calculations and its rating medal is removed. It returns only when the necessary amount of battles are played with it.
The Matchmaker will no longer add fresh players to a running battle after 1 minute of battle or 100 victory points reached.
