This is a major update. If you have any run prior this update, finish or abandon it before updating. Refer to Update 1.18.

  • The game aspect ratio increased from 17:13 to 21:13
  • New HUD design. HUD is now an actual Head-up Display (moved from the bottom to top)

  • Slight change to some map layout to match the new aspect ratio.
  • Horizontal AoE for screen damage increased from 8 to 9.
  • Initial starting parameters now doubled to reduce power spike when obtaining novelty.
  • Rescaled enemy stats to match new scaling.
  • Nerfed Resistance effectiveness against trap damage by half.

  • Reworked revive and express soul mechanic:

    • Previously, express soul revives you on death. Now it add points toward a "Revive" when used, cost increased with each use.
    • Revive charges can be viewed from the Bonus tab.
    • Adjusted Leilah's favour to include Revive.
    • Adjusted some novelties to add Revive.
    • Deliah's mailbox now cost 1 Revive instead of killing you.
    • Reviving now remove 50% of all ailments.

  • Map progress now fully persist between runs. (You still need to clear 6 maps before reaching the gate)
  • Cleric's blessing duration increased, bonus exp reduced.
  • Hall manual updated.
  • Fixed some doodads bug.

UPDATE 1.18

This is a major update. If you have any run prior this update, finish or abandon it before updating, otherwise that run will encounter errors. You can disable automatic update by right clicking the game in your library > go to properties > updates > automatic updates > select 'Only update this game when I launch it'.

Map Changes



  • Map size compressed from 9x9 to 7x7, roughly 40% reduction in map size; so now it's easier to reach all those nodes and complete the map.
  • Map nodes no longer overlaps when initially generated.
  • Updated visual for both mini-map and large map.



Passive Changes


<*>Previously, you learn passive ability from a peer by gifting them with import, obtainable from the smuggler in the harbour. This update now simplified the process by allowing you to learn passive directly from the status window.
<*>Smuggler no longer sells Import item.
<*>Import replaced to 'Moon Lens', obtainable from novelty chest.
<*>You still need to unlock the passive by gifting a peer with a 'Moon Lens' once.
<*>Selling shipment, completing peer request, obtaining novelty, or peer's favour now add points toward your next 'Moon Lens'.

There's currently a typo in the name, it will be fixed on next update.

Update 1.17b & Bundle Sale

Get Coffee Crawl and a bunch of other games at a dirt cheap price (metaphorically) at IndieGala here. Anyway, nothing new for this update. Just adding some file chunks to be used for future update.

  • Fixed some typo
  • Updated peer dialogue.
  • Fixed incorrect tootip display.
  • Changed some card names and icon.

By the looks of it, nobody has managed to beat this game yet. It's alright, I can't even beat ADOM despite playing it for 4 years.

Update 1.17

Sometimes, I like to pretend like there's a lot of people playing this game.

  • Adjusted some novelty to give cards.
  • Elite foe now always say their defeated line.
  • Finishing a run now display upgrade level obtained at the hall (display nothing if it is 0)
  • Furnace trap now stuns.
  • Uniformed all cards sell price.
  • Most doodads in peer base are now destructible with anarchy mode. Doing so will earn a little exp and damages your reputation.
  • Partner now spawns in the starting room of each map. Talking to them will grant their respective buff:

  • Added a new function for Paul's casino; card exchange.
  • Added a new function for Cameron's server room; novelty duplicate. Can be used once every 8 novelty obtained at no cost. Usage is limited by your upgrade level.
  • Fixed partner not spawning in hall.
  • Fixed smuggler extortion.

Update 1.16

I'm thinking of a witty remark to put on the headline, but nothing comes out. So here's some plain information:

  • Peer request is now given directly by peers. Quest NPC removed.

  • Added Cleric NPC as a replacement; pay to receive blessings that increase exp gain for a while.
  • Completing a map now remove 20% of all ailments.
  • Initial difficulty now reduced when starting a run on higher map to balance out the much harder enemies.
  • Lowered some enemies move speed.
  • Help manual in the hall moved to a more obvious spot.
  • Quirk and class descriptions now display their abilities.
  • Adjusted some abilities to use the new belly mechanic.
  • More typos fix and grammatical correction.
  • Your settings may be reset by this update.

This game might not be the best Roguelike or RPG out there, but it does get perpetually updated. We'll get there eventually...

Update 1.15

Discount is ending in 6 hour! Get it now and save... 1 dollar (it's something).

  • Character skin and name change now available on start without needing to be unlocked.
  • Fixed a bug regarding gibbed enemy corpse.
  • Fixed some grammatical mistakes, plus text update.
  • Added anarchy mode section inside the tutorial. Can be accessed by starting a new game, just don't finish the tutorial if you have an ongoing run in your autosave.
  • Credit option now displayed on the title screen. Removed credit access from the hall.
  • Your map progress now partially persist between runs.
  • Map-node icon updated.
  • You now have the ability to pause and view the map in detail by pressing 'M' (default setting). You may need to configure this in 'Keyboard Config' from the option menu, simply press 'Default Keyboard Layout'.

Update 1.14

Approximately 3 days since last update. Sorry for slacking off.


  • Belly mechanic removed. Originally, this was intended to limit item spamming, otherwise you can just keep eating and healing and never die. But managing it is tedious, so it's replaced with something simpler:
  • Food now have cooldown on use, up to 4 uses every 12 sec. Reset when moving to the next room.
  • Reworked diarrhoea ailments into mould; reduce healing from item.
  • Reworked some abilities that use belly as resource.
  • Removed shovel from starting item. +1 spanner instead.
  • WC NPCs removed.
  • Buried treasure now visible on the ground.
  • Shovel use limit reduced from 3 to 2.
  • Attack sound effect changed to be more softer (and less loud).
  • Add 5 frame delay between combat turns, a bit of time to react.
  • Removed caffeine decay on combat turns, because it's unfair for tank build.
  • Interrupt recovery penalty reduced from 50% to 40%.
  • Novelty chest now more flashy.


And finally about that lag/freeze issue; Coffee Crawl source engine is RMMV, released on late 2015, which is still new. If your PC is made 10 years ago (before 2009) chances are this game will have a poor performance. If your PC driver is blacklisted by OpenGL/Chromium (very rarely) you may encounter some lag too. That, or some weird compatibility issue with other installed software on your PC that not even customer service can help.

TLDR: this game lag on old PC.

Recent PC have no problem, other than some slight stutter on initial startup when the game is loading its resources, that is perfectly normal and will not persist.

Also, UK spelling isn't considered a grammatical error.
