Game Clarifications and v0.03 Info
There has been some discussions/questions about what the game will be like and we just wanted to clarify a bit more of what we are aiming for with the game.
Collision Course is a single player story based survival game. You must survive by scavenging ship debris and gathering supplies from the environment. These supplies will aid you in reaching your mission goals and fending off wildlife and enemy survivors. The large map size (64km2) will require you to travel and explore large areas to gather resources and complete objectives. You can choose to cooperate with friendly survivors and take on optional objectives which may assist you in your overall progress. Crafting involves combining of salvaged debris scattered about the region and also from basic elements from the natural environment. Since the game focuses on creating a realistic survival experience, structures will consist of basic tents and shelters formed from natural elements like sticks and leaves, to artificial elements like heat shielding. Structures will often be temporary overnight safe zones, places used to store supplies, and also save points.
Exploring the large map area will be necessary to complete the game. Some missions may require back tracking, but a travel system will allow you to move between predetermined and non predetermined (shelters) points as needed. Many of the devices found from debris will aid you in reaching certain areas within the region that wouldn’t be easily accessible otherwise.
Currently Early Access gameplay is rather one sided, in favor of the environment. As features are added and tweaked, the gameplay will be more balanced and enjoyable. The small region for EA gameplay will be expanded by 10-12 times the current size in the finished game. This will open up a huge area for new ecosystems and wildlife, as well as points of interest relating to the story. We've recently added in an objective system that will be built upon in future updates. Also we will be adding in new mission types as development continues, and these will allow the player to be familiar with the mechanics in the final game. The map will also be updated with additions and details. We hope to have more survival elements added in the next update, most likely animal meat and a craftable camp fire.
There are a couple of main bugs as of v0.02 that we are focusing on fixing. In doing so, we are updating the engine to a newer version, which will increase the stability and also add some graphical improvements. Right now we are a small but dedicated team and plan to grow as needed. We really appreciate your patience. Keep checking in on the progress and leaving feedback. Thank you.
v0.02 Hotfix
Fix for Objective System and several other items.
NOTE: This update and any in the future (which alters the map) will remove your save file. Please don’t try to back it up then override it after updating.
Eventually we’ll move the saving outside of the map. Also, anytime you verify your game files in Steam, it will also replace your save files and system.cfg so be sure to make a backup before verifying.
We added clouds in by default, they do have a flickering issue right now and can be disabled in the system.cfg by commenting out several params:
--r_VolumetricClouds = 1
--e_clouds = 1
Also if you are experiencing crashing or freezing try disabling the fog in system.cfg:
--e_volumetricfog = 1
v0.02 Released
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for hanging in there, took at bit longer than expected.
NOTE: Some of the new objective system was accidentally excluded from our build process and didn’t make it into the release. Part of this is the missing panel in the inventory menu. We’ll be releasing a patch tonight to fix this.
Saving/Load – Loading/Saving can be done from the menu. After dying simply choose to load game or new game. There is one save state right now, we’ll add multiple in the future so just be careful when saving. Do it only when you’re in a safe spot….or what you think is one. :)
Objectives – This is the first version of our Object System so it will transform a bit in future releases. You can view objectives in the inventory menu(now tab was i) and may see objective markers on screen if there is a marker for that particular objective. All objectives are temporary right now, these are not going to be the exact objectives in the final game but there could be some similarities. In future updates new objectives will be added and some may even be removed.
A new gadget was added which can give you a view of the map. It’s still a work in progress so a lot of functionality has yet to be added. Be aware when using it, it will drain your battery power.
50+ Bug Fixes – Too many fixes and tweaks to list. If you are still having any major issues please let us know.
Please keep the feedback coming in, even if we can't reply we read it and it helps. Your screenshots and videos saved us a great deal of time in finding and addressing many of these problems so thank you.
Known Issues:
Saving when holding the Knife or Crowbar will cause them to not appear properly after loading. They are still functional just don’t appear on screen properly. Picking up something, selecting a pistol or swimming will bring them back.
There are also some minor sound issues that can creep in, especially after saving/loading. These usually correct themselves within the first minute.
