Commercium

Status update! (What's coming?)

Hey all! I'm sure some are concerned, because it's been a while since our last update. Short version: Vehicles are slowing us down! And I did not want to admit it!

Long version:
The game is very much alive! Features are being added constantly, but there has not been an update publicly released. Let me tell you all about what's going on:

1.Vehicles were finished and added, but there are no animations for getting into them. We didn't show what we currently have because in our opinion, it does not look release worthy yet. We are attempting to find someone to fill the animation gap, but that'll take time. We're all programmers and artists, but we have no full time animator. This is the biggest hold up right now.

2.The game is undergoing a mini overhaul so the menus will look better, and items in the world highlight as you look at them, I will actually have pictures (and video!) to share of this really soon.

3.We are changing the map up one last time, in the name of performance, so the game runs faster. This is the biggest complaint we receive about the game, and this will fix it.

4.NPC's are coming to the game in the form of citizens, and we want them to have several features before they are added in game, That way it feels more complete and less like a micro update.

5.Character customization and clothing is almost finished, so we wanted to add that in the next update, which is half of why it's been so long without an update (the other half being animations for the vehicle entry).

So, with all of that said, I could not come up with a good way to say "We're are just working on things", Which is why I've been quiet so long. Sorry about the silence!

Commercium is not dead, nowhere near it. It's still worked on, it just stopped being publicly worked on because back end upgrades don't make for good updates to show to you guys.

Clothes or Cars?

Voting time, let's see what you all want next!

Patch 0.2.0

It's finally time!
This update was about more structuring, and prepping for the cool things we plan to do, like fire propagation, pets and cars.

Patch 0.2.0

  • Added bears! They can be found in the wild. Careful, they are hostile on sight, and quick to kill you. They have a little more polish to go through, but for now, they are quite entertaining.
  • Added reloading for all current weapons + animations for that
  • Added a world marker! They are somewhat tricky to get, but you can mark the world with them and use them to keep track of places. They can also be colored to change the name tag color
  • Changed loading system. All loading is done at level selection instead of game load! This makes the game open almost instantly!
  • Changed a lot behind the scenes to boost performance even more. It's not buttery smooth looking across the whole universe, but it runs super smooth indoors!
  • Fixed a bug with the bucket list that allowed it to spam music to you
  • Added tab key function to close some menus
  • Fixed bug where sometimes hacking would not automatically start letting you type words
  • Added hotbar slots! You can now customize what is on the weapon wheel. It's now known as the hotbar wheel! You can use the number keys to activate them, and change them in the inventory.
  • Redesigned weapons to allow them to be removed and added to the hotbar.
  • Made ammunition an item, to be traded or given away.
  • Added fall damage. Careful on that rooftop.
  • Added a cedar tree, for a renewable source of wood. Plant it, wait, harvest.
  • Changed the bucket list to show percentages
  • Allowed aiming down sights with weapons.

Next up, We're going to take a vote on vehicles or clothing options.

Patch 0.1.9 Released!

A patch is finally rolling off the presses! From here, all updates will happen faster!

Patch 0.1.9

  • Added flags for youtubers! They can be found in the shop.
  • Performance has been improved drastically!
  • If you're still having issues, turn shadows off in options
  • Added the bucket list! It can be found on another tab in your player screen. They don't give you anything yet, but they will award "prizes" soon
  • Added deer! They don't do much, but they will soon!
  • Brought back the loading screen!
  • Added a different sound for breaking glass! Hopefully this one is easier on the ears
  • Improved loading across the board! (As much as possible)
  • Fixed some bugs regarding multiplayer and opening things.

Coming up next? We are dabbling with pets, steam features, more weapons and vehicles! This will be the big 0.2 update!

Status update (Finally fixing performance good!)

It's been a while since I've updated everyone on the status of things, so I am fixing that!

We have a huge update planned, and I am going to fill you all in on what to expect soon:

  • A breakthrough in performance was had! practically doubling the framerate of the game! You can expect to run at 60-90 FPS!* (With minimum hardware + shadows turned off. If you get a better GPU you can expect more!)
  • Deer as animals!
  • More furniture options + flags
  • Steam store features! Possible trading cards as well, depending on if they are finished in time for this update.
  • A goal in the game, with an unique "New game plus" Mechanic!

The performance optimizations took weeks and weeks, but now we can safely go forward after this 0.1.9 update and focus on the game play and less on bugs and slow game speed on middle range hardware.

You can expect this update before this month is over.

Patch 0.1.8

Hey all, a LOT was done under the hood, fixing things, getting a performance update ready to make the game finally smooth, and adding small furniture items. So much was done that we jumped to 0.1.8!

Patch 0.1.8

  • Fixed a bug where you could not be female on a horse
  • Fixed a bug where you could not use the pawn shop
  • Fixed a bug that made female legs look weird sometimes
  • Changed the style of menus in places
  • Changed the sound some things make
  • Furniture optimizations were started, trying to make the world run smooth
  • An Iron gate was added to the shop
  • Flags of Youtubers have been added to the shop. (Tanman321go, PsiSyndicate) Represent your favorite Youtuber! If you want your favorite Youtuber added, please tell us! All flags are added with permission from respective people.
  • unlocked the small gift box. You can now drink and be merry. Just be careful, small boxes explode, because they are cheap.

Next, we're going to try and cram in some goals for you in the world of Commercium!

Patch 0.1.5

Back to the grind stone! We hope everyone had an awesome holiday, and look forward to the new year! :)

Patch 0.1.5

  • Added the start to machines! Over the week, they will be tweaked to work better / easier. The power box, generator, smelter and mining machine can all be found in the crafting menu, and work near each other / rocks. To get supplies for them, punch rocks.
  • Performance improvements across the board! Indoors, you should see framerates of 68 to 120FPS, and a 20% improvement overall. Still a lot to do, but we're getting there.
  • Added Ores! Gold & Iron for now. Both can be sold as well, or smelted into bars.

It's still not time to open the gifts yet. We're working on that one. :) Looks like it's going to be a new years gift!

Sneak peek at what's coming

Hello all! That hard drive loss set us back a little more than we hoped. The update is still not finished, and we are not certain when it will be finished, but it will be a day in this week.

I also thought I'd let you all see what's coming in the next few updates!

  • Optimization, people want a smoother faster game!
  • Key remapping!
  • Another inventory overhaul! This time with drag and drop!
  • Machines and the start of mining!
  • Bug hunting, there are more bugs to find, and we have plenty of nets.

Finally, here is an image, showing one of the machines coming in the update:

Patch 0.1.4 [Voted Feature Patch]

This patch adds the features that were voted on. We have big things in store from here.

Patch 0.1.4

  • Added a wooden training dummy, which can be found under Misc in the shop
  • Added music to the in game radio, switched by turning the radio off and on

Status update on tonight's patch!

You've all voted in the feature poll, and it was a tie:

So, we did the only thing we could think to do, and added both! Tonight's update will contain new music on the radio, and a wooden target dummy, that tells you the damage it takes, along with a new section in the shop, titled "Misc".

We also working with an independent music artist duo that some of you will probably know, to bring some custom music to the games radio in the future!

On an slightly related note, the main hard drive that contained the latest update for Commercium died right after the last patch, and our backup was three days old, so we worked endlessly through the last three days to bring the game back up to where it is currently.

If we're silent, we're busy working on the game.

The in-game presents will be unlocked on the 27th, due to the previously mentioned hard drive failure. We apologize for this, and hope to make it up to you when the presents are opened.

Hope you all have a Happy Holiday!
