LASER PISTOL & BALANCE UPDATE (v0.5.17)



Along with a new unlockable starter pistol, this update is the first pass at improving the smoothness of the difficulty curve while also giving easy and medium players access to more of the miniboss content. If you're still on the fence about COMPOUND, why not try the recently updated free demo?

New Laser Pistol



The Laser Pistol fires a powerful laser pulse, but requires good aim and timing. Although it has a 3 shot capacity, each shot takes exponentially more time to recharge than the last. It is generally best to fire one shot at a time, letting it recharge. Only use the second or third shots if you are in a pinch or if you are confident there are no other enemies around. Like the Plasma Pistol, it uses a shared battery when dual wielded.

HOTFIX - Please read (V0.5.16b)

Please note you may need to reset Steam for it to notice and download the update

The recent update may no longer be compatible with older custom bindings. If you find you are having issues with your controls, please open the Steam menu while running COMPOUND, select the COMPOUND icon at the bottom, select Controller Bindings and set the Active Controller Binding to Default. If you are still experiencing issues, please open the menu (the green button on the back of either wrist) and select Reset All Options. This will run the setup wizard and set all options to safe default values. If you still encounter issues, please drop by the Official Bug Report thread over on the Steam forums and let me know.

Changed:

  • Improved collision geometry and AI pathfinding around doors in Chemical Processing maps
  • Slightly increased stick deadzone tolerance for Index controllers


Fixed:

  • Prevented maps from loading multiple times on top of each other by repeatedly pulling the trigger on death or rapidly selecting Return to HQ from the menu
  • Pulling the save lever and selecting Reset All Options no longer confuses the game
  • Player can no longer run around the setup area
  • Setup area gun now correctly resetting to position when dropped again

SAVE & CONTINUE UPDATE (v0.5.16)



Save & Continue


You can now save and exit a run. The run can then be continued at any time. After clearing a map, and before boarding the elevator, pull the new save lever. Instead being taken to the next floor, your progress will be saved and you will be returned to HQ. Next time you enter the elevator in HQ, you'll be back from where you left off from your previous run.

GOLD LEADER UPDATE (v0.5.15)



GOLD LEADER


Not much is known about the leader of Gold Squad. Due to his extremely high fees, he is only deployed to deal with the most dangerous threats. Here is the short list of intel we have been able to collect on him so far:

  • He is heavily armored, and has almost certainly undergone extensive cybernetic or genetic modification.
  • He carries a custom railgun / shotgun hybrid weapon, so he is dangerous at all ranges.
  • He is equipped with a new type of force shield that appears to be completely impervious to small arms. Luckily for us, it seems he only uses it when engaging a target at range. Even when deployed, it does not cover his face and right arm, so he can aim without distraction. This could potentially be used to your advantage if you can confidently take quick, precise shots at his head.


Advice: Gold Leader is most likely the strongest opponent you will ever face. He is a legendary marksman, so don't count on him missing often. Use quick hit and run tactics and break line of sight as quickly as possible. Always aim for the head.

HOVERING GUNS


This option, on by default, makes dropped guns hover on the spot instead of falling to the ground. This can be disabled in the gameplay options.

SCREENSHOT MODE [Advanced]


Screenshot mode is now separate from debug mode. Enable it by setting 'ScreenshotMode' to 'True' in the config file, located at C:\\Users\\[username]\\AppData\\Local\\COMPOUND\\config_2.cfg. Once enabled, high resolution screenshots can be taken by holding weapon action button + trigger on your left hand. Screenshots are stored in My Documents.

RECEPTION SECURITY UPDATE (v0.5.14)



After reception reported increased numbers of ... difficult customers, M. Corp. outsourced a robust and compact security solution to Japanese heavy industrial manufacturing firm, Odawara Jūkō. Their marketing department forwarded us the following information:
Introducing the KANi, a proprietary security systems platform that can be rapidly deployed in any number, to any work place or domicile, with minimal configuration or fuss. The KANi comes equipped with a energy shield and plasma cannon out of the box, and by default is configured to either fire upon (at range) or eviscerate (CQC)* any sources of disruption detected by our patented algorithm.** Buy a KANi today!

* Shield disengaged during evisceration mode. Any damage sustained to the unit during this phase is not covered under warranty.

KANi:
Appears on Reception & Sales 2
Number of units depends on difficulty level
Uses heavy shields and fires plasma cannon from range
Disengages shields at close quarters and physically attacks player. Vulnerable in this state

Momentum Reloading:
Any weapons with a hinge in the reload mechanic (double barreled shotgun, revolver, laser, sticky launcher, grenade pistol) can be closed with a 'flick' of the wrist

Reworked Sticky Launcher:
Tap the weapon action button to detonate bombs. This will no longer discard unused ammo!
Press and hold the weapon action button to force reload

LABORATORY DIRECTOR UPDATE (v0.5.13)



Intruders near Dr. A. Morral will be subjected to his acid spray attack. To deal with threats at a distance he will throw gas canisters which will create an area denying cloud of gas. Experienced players can shoot the gas canisters to disable them and clear the acid cloud, although even more experienced players may choose to use the acid clouds to their advantage as the clouds can block enemies' vision of the player.
He spawns on Research & Development 2 on medium and hard difficulty.

Background:
Dr. A. Morral was first accepted into M. Corp's research and development program after he discovered a ground breaking procedure of removing the morality core of the anterior cingulate cortex while leaving the subject otherwise fully capable of complex rational thought. Daily high voltage shocks to the brain were found to almost entirely eliminate the mild side effects of megalomania and homicidal fantasies, and the procedure was soon green-lit to become a standard requirement of all research and business staff, resulting in productivity and profitability boost across the board.
Dr. Morral now spends much of his research time on the development of various weaponized corrosive compounds, which he takes great joy in testing on living biological material at any opportunity.

BOOSTER BRUCE UPDATE (v0.5.12)



A jet-pack equipped mini-boss found on Vaccine Warehouse 2 from medium difficulty up. He's very fast and hard to hit, but can't take much of a beating.

Description:
Booster Bruce made a name for himself protecting corporate interests in the Australian outback using his custom made jet pack. It wasn't long before M-Corp executives took notice, and assigned him as the leader of his very own quick response team to suppress competitor initiatives before they could affect quarterly profit forecasts.

SPIDER TANK UPDATE (v0.5.11)



The Spider Tank, found on Chemical Processing 2 on medium difficulty and above, is quite a tough challenge with high damage resistance, good mobility, and two attack patterns.

Description:
A competing weapons manufacturer was recently acquired below market price by M-Corp after, by an extraordinary and not at all suspicious coincidence, the CEO and the entire board of directors suffered from various unrelated fatal accidents. This amazing stroke of luck was very fortunate for M-Corp as the ST-85 prototype armored quadrupedal defense unit they designed filled a gap in the market M-Corp was not able to fill until now.

ACCOUNTANT UPDATE (v0.5.10)



The Accountant, found on Profit Management 2, is the second 'mini-boss' of a series of (probably) seven. He's the easiest of the mini-bosses, being the only one who will appear on all difficulty levels including easy.

Description:
Through years of boot licking and back stabbing he has climbed the ranks of M-Corp™️, and uses his fat paycheck to buy better gear than the other guards. Especially difficult to deal with is his portable shield generator, which will protect him from a huge amount of incoming damage. Either destroy it with brute force, or find another way ...

YEAR OF THE RAT UPDATE (v0.5.9)



This is the first of a series of updates introducing new mini-bosses! Aimed at advanced players, this disgusting giant rat will only appear on hard mode *OR* any difficulty when looping the game (e.g. after defeating the boss and starting your second run). It appears on Sewers 2.

Description:
The CEO's Gold Defense Squad at M-Corp™️ engineered this mutant sewer rat to be the "attack dog" and mascot of the squad. They even fitted two canisters of fast working virus onto its back. After many hundreds of beatings, it is now trained to vomit the virus onto any intruders who try to make their way into the compound. One deranged employee started a smear campaign against M-Corp™️, falsely claiming this was somehow bad for the rat's health. This employee has since been liquefied.
M-Corp's public relations department deflected accusations of animal abuse and has heralded it as an innovative way to bring employment into a previously under represented rat demographic
