Plan for Victory in Tactical Battles until April 27!

Tactical Battle Mode is back! Fight in a battle of epic proportions from April 22 to 27 (23:59 server time), where equipment is lacking, and strategy is everything.

This returning mode pits teams of players against each other in Siege battles with pre-provided Units, so order them wisely! Attackers will be equipped with two Rare artillery, while defenders get only one. Armour will also be supplied that complements the weapon you wield.

Runes and other personal effects will not be active; only your favourite weapon, trusty steed, and skills are your own.

Drops will be active for this mode, so you can pick up Greenwood Keys from the Lords of the Forest Event for your tactical efforts, and cash them in for rewards.

Good luck, and may you be victorious in battle!

Behind the Scenes: The Open-World

The Open-World of Conqueror’s Blade is full of opportunities for adventure, inspirational scenery, and surprises waiting to be discovered. From battling for dominion over fiefs and fortresses in Territory Wars, to challenging loitering Bandits to combat, and scouring abandoned sites for treasure, the Open-World has something for everyone.

We talked to Yifei Li, the Virtual World Creative Designer atBooming Tech about the vision behind the Open-World, the challenges of balancing the world, and the hopes for the future.

When it comes to the Open-World of Conqueror’s Blade (and the adventures and battles that take place within it) - how has your vision changed over the years, from launch to now?

The idea for the Open-World was born out of inspiration and intuition. When we finished the individual gameplay (Field and Siege battles), we thought, "why don't we enrich this into a world?" So it seemed natural to us that an Open-World would emerge, but the content of such a world presentation and the form of the campaign is really what we have been exploring since the beginning of development.

What we started with was a battle for territory in a small fictional land; by the time it went live, the Conqueror’s Blade world had been enriched into five regions, and the battle for territory was left to the players to form their own clans to fight.

As the seasons progressed, we also completed the Anadolou and Longting lands, each with its own distinctive style. Our vision changed from "we need an Open-World" to "we want to show what Conqueror’s Blade is through an Open-World", then "we want to use Conqueror’s Blade's Open-World to communicate our thoughts about civilisation and ancient warfare". Of course, we are still far from the last step, and the current Open-World does not meet our expectations at the moment.

How would you like to see the Open-World progress or change going forward?

Let's start with the existing NPC behaviours. We hope to complete a round of in-depth improvements, both in terms of the richness of NPC assembly behaviour, their intelligence, and strength. Enriching this world and introducing more events to give players more combat content to explore and experience is what we expect from our Open-World.

In addition, we want the world to be a vehicle for Conqueror’s Blade’s culture and an important part of the player's experience. We are working on enhancing each area of Open-World with more interactive content that tells the story of what has happened in this world and brings it to life. We are grateful to all the players who have experienced and lived in this world, and we hope that it will become a shared creation with our players.

What were the challenges when it came to balancing Units and Weapon Classes for Open-World PVP?

This is very challenging because, in PVP matchmaking, we want players to have an experience that shows individuality and a wide range of options. So in our matchmaking balancing, we focused heavily on improving weak corps and nerfing mechanics that didn't make sense. In Open-World PVP, however, we have focused more on the contradictory and compatible spirit of dedication and heroism, so there is a significant difference between this and the PVP matchmaking balance. We will try to balance these two directions and also bring a wider variety of tactics and gameplay to the territorial battles while keeping the PVP matches reasonable.

Designing the Open-World must have been demanding but a joy; what real-life landscapes did the team take inspiration from over time?
One of the key updates we made during Season VIII: Dynasty was the creation of a brand new city - Hao Jing. We drew on the life experiences of various members in the production process and the photos they recorded from their travels to places such as Xi'an, the ancient capital of China's Tang Dynasty, and the Tangcheng film and television base in Xiangyang. These became important photo references, along with their own impressions left in their minds when we went looking for the design of Hao Jing.

At the same time, the experience and knowledge of the designers from Europe became a great help when we were making Season VII: Wolves of Ragnarok and the whole atmosphere of the season was greatly enhanced compared to previous seasons.

Do you consider adding any real-life landmarks to the Open-World scenery based on the region that inspires a Season?

Yes, we are keen to give players a taste of the different civilisations featured in the game, which is part of the core experience. We have already experimented with this in previous seasons: in Season VII: Wolves of Ragnarok, for example, we placed Heilung Fjord (an area inspired by Scandinavian landscapes) on the shores of Vajk's Lake where it exists in the Conqueror’s Blade story. In Season VIII: Dynasty, we placed Linwu Fortress in the Maoyang, and the Longting region in a landscape similar to the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, China. These are all very seasonal and regionally-specific cultural symbols, and we want all players to feel this.

In future seasons, we would like to bring more large world landscapes with the characteristics of different civilisations to the players.

Paragons Campaign & Ranked Battle Rewards

Conqueror’s Blade: Paragons is still ongoing, but you can take a look at the rewards you’re fighting for in the Seasonal Campaign in advance, whether you’re in a House, Alliance, or fighting solo in pursuit of good performance and achievements!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE SEASON END

From the end of scheduled maintenance on June 2, Conqueror’s Blade: Paragons will officially be over. Until the next Season begins, Glory will no longer be issued as a reward for participating in matchmaking battles, including Expeditions and Free Battles, Territory War battles, or general levelling. However, in line with previous seasons, Glory can still be earned from Weekly Challenges, Lesser Scrolls of Glory, and Greater Scrolls of Glory. The Seasonal Store will also remain accessible with its current range of rewards for exchange until a new season begins.

After the Campaign Results have been tallied for Paragons, Territory Wars will run as normal until the start of the next Season, with the exception of May 31 (when Territory Wars will be replaced with Free Battles). Neither Turul Város nor Augolia can be conquered during this time, and any Fiefs captured will not count towards Triumph rewards.

Grab this Exclusive Chevaliers Helmet until April 25!

To mark the Chevaliers’ release and celebrate their gallant status in the army of Pays-de-la-Gloire, you can pick up the exclusive Chevaliers' Wings of Glory Helmet only until April 25 (23:59 server time/23:59 CEST) in-game or via MY.GAMES Market.

It’s only available for a limited time, so swoop it up before it's gone for good!

This resplendent helmet was commonly worn during tournaments, most famously by Gabrielle-Maëlys herself when she disguised herself as an ordinary knight, revealing her identity to the spectators after winning a shock victory in the melee. Behind The Scenes: Paragons Units

Conqueror’s Blade: Paragons ushered in a new band of amazing, distinct units to add to your ranks. From healers to flag-bearers, to warriors on horseback, we’ve gone behind the scenes to learn more about your new recruits: Alchemists, Banner Guards, and Chevaliers.

Anton Mamihonov, Creative Director at Booming Tech, chatted with us about the creation of all three Paragons units, from design conceptualisation to gameplay.

Alchemists (3-Star)

The Alchemists possess homemade weapons alongside their healing skills; how much damage can they really do?

I would humbly dare to say that their main weapon is their sharp intelligence and understanding of natural elements. Healing and alchemy are what make this unit strong. They're also equipped with short daggers that are mostly used as tools but can be utilised as last resort weapons when the situation is desperate. Don't expect the Alchemists to stand their ground against soldiers or deal much damage though – their role is different, they are purely support.

How should Alchemists be positioned on the battlefield to best preserve their numbers, while also being close at hand to tend to the wounded?

As non-armoured light infantry, they rely on proper positioning and distance-predicting from players. Imagine the difficulty of keeping Bagpipers alive... now multiply it by two.

What inspired you to add Alchemists in Paragons?

A number of things actually. Historically medieval armies of Europe were composed not only of warriors but often an equal size of servants, merchants, craftsmen, and medics. They cooked, treated wounded, sold provisions, and repaired equipment.

Paragons aims to highlight some notable traits of French culture and its unique identity. Besides devotion, virtue, liberty, and chivalry, there's more – romanticism and elegance. The female spirit of Joan of Arc and the elegant Alchemists fit this perfectly.

For gameplay, we aimed to make new ways of how 3-Star units are played. It's our first-ever fully-dedicated healing unit. Initially, it was planned as so, and you can see that in the very early conceptualisation.

We don't want our players to not fight non-combatants or pure medics due to moral reasons, though. It actually opened up totally new cool options that allowed us to mix in naturalism and alchemy to the unit by giving them a new smokescreen ability and letting them carry daggers.

Banner Guards (4-Star)

What weapons do the Banner Guards wield? And how well do they wield them?

Banner Guards consist of a large variety of warriors with different backgrounds who all fought together for years in this ongoing war. Some parts of their armour are covered with rust, and each of them wields a different type of weapons such as swords and axes. They are also equipped with shields. They are efficient and well-spirited.

What inspired you to add this unit in Paragons?

Joan of Arc! After creating a few alternative early units concept ideas I had the thought to present the story of Joan throughout a unit, to make our players literally feel like Joan did – to lead an army by example while carrying the banner. This is how this unit idea, visuals and gameplay were born. To be sincere, this unit was almost cancelled in the very early stage due to the complexity of coding work and limited production time. It was a real battle to convince the team to believe in this unit and I'm truly hoping that our players will enjoy its unique gameplay and it will be a memorable experience.

Chevaliers (5-Star)

How powerful is the Chevaliers’ charge, really?

It’s brutal. Damage and crowd-control are numerical aspects that can be adjusted or changed with time but our main purpose was not to make their charge game-breaking (or repeat the mistake we previously made with some 5-Star cavalry) but to make this unit rely on its unique core retinue mechanic.

Which Units fighting alongside them give them special advantages?

Chevaliers have a unique new mechanic that came to our Lead Designer (Bai Yi Qiu) during one of those late nights - as noble knights they should bring their retainers with them. That means that players can choose one of a few low tier units for free and bring them to the battlefield with Chevaliers and they will both be summoned on the Supply or Respawn Point. Players will have two units to control at the same time. The behaviour of the retinue unit depends on the class – infantry, ranged, cavalry. You'll see the details very soon, we're super excited.

What real-life counterparts inspired Chevaliers, if any?

For the visual part, our friends and partners at MY.GAMES contributed with visual research of historical French armour. We decided to use Gendarmes cavalry presented in museums, then add bright colourful fabrics and details to highlight the luxury of the noble Paragons.

For the gameplay part, European knights usually didn't go to war alone. They brought servants, peasant soldiers, a number of horses, equipment, and provisions for their men. A knight that goes to war alone is either foolish or financially broke.
