Custom Classes, Alterants, and More!

Following the successful Kickstarter campaign, we've hit the ground running, already implementing the stretch goals that were reached. March has been a particularly productive month for us, with significant progress made in many areas of our project ๐
One of the key areas we've been focusing on is the development of Alterants and the Forge. We added basic support for the stretch goal "Alterant Sequences", and are now updating all Alterants to give them names and more set stats to make it easier to recognize them. The Forge has also seen some improvements. Players will now be able to access all items there, even those stored in their stash. Additionally, we've introduced a preview feature that displays item name, level, alternate spaces, and eventual alternate names + alternate sequence name when standing over items on the ground.
Another stretch goal we've successfully implemented is the Custom class. This new feature gives players the freedom to select one of the 12 skill tabs each time they reach the required level to unlock a new tab. Basically, you will be able to mix and match any 3 skill tabs you like ๐
We've also been hard at work optimizing the effect system. While this has required us to redo some effects, it will ultimately help to reduce lag spikes in the long run. We're also continuing to add and polish skills. For instance, we've introduced a new skill for the Guardian class: Rally Flag. This ability damages enemies around it upon landing and then acts as a buff zone for you and your allies.
Lastly, we're proud to announce that our game, Coridden, was showcased during PAX East in Boston. This was a fantastic opportunity for us to share our work with a wider audience and receive valuable feedback ๐

Last time, we chatted about the power of dialogues and how your choices can influence the quest, its outcome, and even the rewards. Today, we want to introduce you a bit more to the playable characters: the Dayal siblings. The siblings are more than just colorful characters on your screen - they're people with their own unique personalities. By understanding their temperaments, you'll be better equipped to make choices in the game and avoid potential surprises. Let's get to know them better!
Jai - The intelligent and rational one
As the oldest of the Dayal siblings, Jai has grown up to become a responsible individual. He is naturally intelligent and likes being rational. Sometimes Jai finds it difficult not to point out when people are wrong or use faulty reasoning. He feels pressured to take over the family business one day, which makes him feel weighed down by obligations he doesn't want to shoulder. He dreams of becoming rich and gaining the freedom to do whatever he wants to.
Devi - The supportive and observant one
Devi is the second oldest of the siblings, and sheโs very curious and empathetic. Sheโs much more interested and in tune with her and others' emotions than the other siblings. She loves helping others so much that she often forgets to take care of herself and be happy. Although Devi tries to avoid conflicts with other people, she still sometimes feels sheโs not enough to be likeable. She hopes to make her family and the entire community proud of her.
Lilly - The hot-tempered and brutally honest one
The second-youngest, the most daring and ambitious of her siblings, with a sole goal to become the strongest. She was still a child, when she got badly hurt and lost in a fight to defend her sibling, and from then on promised herself to never lose again. Lilly doesn't like showing off any weaknesses, and her short fuse often ends up in harsh comments or fights with others. While her siblings can appreciate her honesty, people who don't know her often take offence to her straight-forward nature and lack of social skills.
Eshan - The charming and manipulative one
Being the youngest of the siblings, he has always looked up to his siblings and hopes to be as smart, dedicated, and tough as them. He quickly realized, however, that his real strength lies in his charm and wits. Although his inexperience and naivetรฉ can sometimes be a hindrance to his goals, he has little trouble lying and manipulating to get what he wants. And, with his busy and talented family, he often feels like he is not as valuable and good enough as the others. He dreams of becoming famous and popular, someone respected and important among the townsfolk.

More Than Just Words: Exploring Dialogue System in Coridden

When you play through Coridden's story, you're not restricted to being a passive listener. You can be an active participant in the unfolding narrative, and be given options to dig deeper for more information, decide how to solve a problem, or even select the type of reward you desire. Each choice you make can lead to new secrets, quests, and outcomes, all dependent on the situation and the NPC/quest at hand.
In Coridden, your character's personality matters. The siblings in the game have different approaches to people and problems, and this can open up unique choices and quests. The rewards and outcomes are not always the same, they change based on the character you are playing and the choices you make.
You already know that you can play Coridden solo or in co-op with your friends. But how does making decisions work when there is more than one person playing? Here is where our voting system comes in!
We decided to implement a system that ensures every player has a chance to read the dialogues, and have their say in the choices presented. Every player always needs to press the "confirm" button to continue a dialogue. However, to make sure the flow doesn't get too slow, as soon as one player has pressed "continue" a timer starts. When the timer runs out, it means that the dialogue will continue regardless of every player having confirmed.
When there are multiple options available, each player can vote for the answer they prefer. If there is a tie, a 50-50 chance determines the selected option. Even if the majority leans towards one option, there is still a chance for the less popular choice to be selected. This makes sure every vote is always viable, and adds a fun element of unpredictability to the dialogue outcome!
We believe that our dynamic dialogues in Coridden will provide a unique and engaging gaming experience. Each choice you make, each dialogue you engage in, is a step towards shaping your own adventure. So come, step into the world of Coridden, and let your choices speak for themselves!

Unveiling the Secrets of Aasha: The Story of Coridden

While Coridden's visuals and smooth multiplayer gameplay may be eye-catching, there's an important layer of the game that's hard to show through screenshots and GIFs. Beneath its visual surface lies a story that weaves together elements of adventure, mystery, and the indomitable spirit of humanity. Let's explore it together!
Coridden's post-apocalyptic narrative is set on a distant planet, where remnants of old human society and technology are scattered across a landscape reminiscent of Earth's Mesozoic Era.
The story takes place many years after a mysterious disaster forced colonists to leave their city and the advanced technology that used to keep them alive. The colonists have since built a new city, learning to adapt and survive in a world where dangerous reptile beasts roam freely.
A group of brave people called the "Scavengers" go into dangerous places to find resources and artifacts that were left behind after a catastrophic event. Our protagonists, the Dayal siblings, become a part of this group after their lives take an unexpected turn when they equip ancient hi-tech devices that grant them extraordinary shapeshifting powers.
With this newfound ability, they embark on a thrilling journey into the unknown, seeking answers about the true nature of these artifacts. Their quest leads them to the city of Aasha, long abandoned and sealed-off by their ancestors 200 years prior.
As the siblings draw closer to Aasha, they uncover unnerving signs of something concealed within the city's protective barriers. This discovery starts a race against time to prevent the release of something that should remain locked away forever.
Don't let the post-apocalyptic setting mislead you. The story in Coridden isn't just about survival, but also about the human spirit's resilience and the lengths we go to protect our world. We are back with more detailed information about our game, Coridden! Last time, we talked about customization options for your human and beast forms, allowing you to tailor your character to your personal play style. Today, we're thrilled to take you on a journey through the World of Coridden โจ
Our main town, Quilon, is a bustling hub of activity. Here, players can interact with different NPCs, hear their personal stories and get some quests. The building which players will most likely visit the most is called the Dayal House โ the players' family home. It offers a chance to craft and assemble alterants, store items, and reset or unlearn skills.
Quilon also nests an arena and various shops where players can purchase new gear or upgrade their existing one.ย But this town is more than just a marketplace; it's also the starting point for our players' journey into the wider World of Coridden โจ
The world outside Quilon is vast and varied, with beautiful biomes designed to encourage exploration. These levels are built around a central open area, with linear side-tracks for those who want to delve deeper. We designed these levels to give a sense of openness and freedom, encouraging players to keep their eyes open. In certain places, obstacles can be overcome by figuring out environmental puzzles, jumping or swimming. We reward the effort! ๐
As players progress through the main story, they'll uncover new areas to explore. Each area has its own main hub and many smaller sub-areas, all of which can be explored without encountering a loading screen. This seamless exploration allows players to fully immerse themselves in the world of Coridden, whether they're revisiting a favorite spot or embarking on a quest in a new area.
In each area, players will find at least one Safe Camp, which acts as a save point. Additionally, we scattered around fast travel stations that allow players to quickly move between any stations they've previously discovered and powered up.
We wanted to create a place where people can explore, face different challenges, and progress at their own pace. We hope you'll enjoy your journey through Coridden's enchanting realm as much as we enjoyed creating it ๐

Unleashing the Beast: Beast Masteries in Coridden!

In our last update, we delved into the process of levelling up human form in Coridden. Today, we wanted to pull back the curtain and give you a closer look at another equally important aspect of our game โ the Beast Forms and their Masteries.
Each beast type has their own Beast Mastery, meaning their own skill-tree with passive and active skills that work in a similar way as the Human Classes. These skills are usable when being in your beast form, essentially meaning you build two characters in one, as you have access to both at any time! Each Beast Mastery usually has up to 3 damage types to specialize into, giving you the opportunity to customize your beast form to your liking ๐
To gain skill points for upgrading a certain Beast Mastery, you have to gain experience points while having that beast form equipped. To begin with, every Beast Mastery includes one skill tree (or skill tab, as we like to call them). However, as you level up, you will be able to unlock a second skill tab, where you will be able to select one out of six skill tabs (it's six for now, but this number might change). These secondary tabs are available for all creature types, and give you a chance to specialize your creature even further to match your play style.

Every beast has their own style, as well as strengths and weaknesses, which are reflected in their Beast Mastery.
Here's a brief description of each beast:
๐ฒ Panteliz
A swift predator that has camouflage and regenerative abilities, but can also pounce and spin to deal a lot of area damage. Skills usually deal sharp, poison or electric damage.
๐ฒ Houndra
A crazed beast that loves to leap and bite; Its quick attacks and low skill cooldowns means it can always stay in action. Skills usually deal sharp, blunt and/or heat damage.
๐ฒ Ramox
A tough and easily riled up beast that likes to charge into battle head first. Skills usually deal blunt and/or heat damage.
๐ฒ Roker
A powerful elemental beast that likes to cast many and various skills from a distance.ย Skills usually deal poison and/or electric damage.
๐ฒ Dragolem
An almost unbreakable and sturdy beast that uses stones and crystals to perform attacks covering a lot of area. Skills usually deal blunt and/or piercing damage.
๐ฒ Scaptor
A beast that has a deadly focus, uses skills that deal a lot of damage on one target or small area. Skills usually deal piercing, heat and/or poison damage.
We strongly encourage you to play as different beasts and find your favorite through trial and error. If you have multiple versions of the same beast, don't hesitate to pick different Masteries for them and see what works best for your team or your personal play style. But most of all โ have fun! ๐

Coridden was made with the idea of playing together in a meaningful way. This means not just running around together, but also interacting with each other and actively communicating. Whether you're in the same room or miles apart, Coridden is here to bring you together, since it offers both local and online co-op, allowing up to four people to play at the same time in different configurations. For instance, two players can be on the couch at home, while another friend joins them online.

From Guardian to Surge: Exploring Coridden's Class System ๐

We're incredibly happy that so many of you played the DEMO during the still ongoing Next Fest on Steam ๐ During one of the streams we had someone ask if picking a character at the beginning of the game ties them to a class. We wanted to clarify, that you can pick whichever class you want, it's not tied to any of the characters!
While you can get a sense of the classes in the demo, they are just a preview. In the final version of the game, there will not only be changes to the skills, but the class system itself will work a little bit differently. So in this update we wanted to share a bit more about the class system, and also show you our brand new icons representing each class!
When your character reaches level one, you can pick between the four classes: Guardian, Hunter, Hellion or Surge. In-game, you can take a look at each class skill trees before deciding on one. As soon as you have allocated a point to a skill in a class, then that class is set for your character.
Each class contains three skill trees, or skill tabs as we also like to call them, and each tab has a theme. You start with one tab, and then the other tabs unlock at certain levels. After you've unlocked all of them you can freely pick and choose what you like between the tabs!
Guardian Skill tabs: Punisher, Protector and Commander. A sturdy fighter that lives to protect and aid their teammates, but also to punish any enemies that stand against them with devastating blunt damage. Their various shield abilities can both protect and retaliate incoming damage, and their leader aura can boost everyone towards victory.
Hunter Skill tabs: Ranger, Trickster, Summoner. A cunning archer and swordsman, that prefers to take out enemies from a distance with powerful ranged skills or with their agility and prowess rather than raw strength. They can specialize in using various tools such as traps, camouflage and poison or learn to summon all kinds of creatures to aid them in battle.
Hellion Skill tabs: Heat, Devotion, Hate. A passionate warrior with heat as their primary element. They can channel their hate to sacrifice themselves and do great damage output with fire and piercing damage, but also give into their devotion and unlock powerful healing abilities for themselves and their teammates.
Surge Skill tabs: Energy, Electricity, Time. A caster and master manipulator that can unleash powerful electric attacks to end their foes. They can shape time or energy to their will, enabling them to control their enemies and aid both themselves and their teammates to keep them energized throughout the battle.
There are five tiers of skills within each skill tab. Initially, you can only choose to upgrade skills from the first tier, but as you spend more skill points you'll unlock new tiers and even more skills to pick from. In each skill tab, you'll find both active and passive skills, and each skill can be upgraded multiple times.
We hope this sheds some light on Human Classes in Coridden. Keep in mind that these are separate to what your beast form can do, though!
