2024 and Future Updates!

This year's finale has arrived and I want to genuinely thank you all for buying and/or talking about the game!
2024 was a very challenging and fulfilling year, spending the better part of the year toiling away at the game dev mines, getting CORPUS EDAX ready within the time and money that I had left.

But! It is not over yet. Your continued support has allowed me to work on some things that I had to cut due to lack of time, which brings us to this future update that I've been working on.

It's going to be a substantial update, something separate from the main campaign with a focus on environmental traps and hazards and storyline of its own.

As you can from the video above, you'll be able to either accidentally or on purpose chain some fun combos against enemies with the traps laying around, but be careful as they work just the same on you.

This is just a few environmental hazards and traps that are going to be in the next update.

I hope 2025 treats us all well. Happy new year! ːzombiethumbsupː

Small Update

- Added some new items throughout the Mines, Arboretum, B-Class Echelon
- Fixed some typos
- Traveling between places with the UnderTram will cost 35 CorpCreds

Currently working on a separate game mode, a bit different from the campaign, that will be added to the game in a couple of months!

Couple of fixes for Marie/Forever Night club

- Fixed Marie giving you the explosive again even if you already had it
- Fixed getting stuck in the club after revisiting the level when the quest had already been completed
- Updated Marie's barks when revisiting the level

The Pit Arena mode is now open!

Round-Based Arena Mode

The Pit has now opened up its arena to regular fights, which means you can sign up for a chance to go through all 12 rounds in one go, to gain a reward as well as the throne-holder title.

If you die or quit in any of the rounds you will be ejected from the Arena and will have to start from Round 1!

To access this round-based arena mode, you will need to have access to The Pit and have defeated Donovan 'Ribcage' Campbell.
Talk to the Pit Overseer to sign up for the arena - only 100 CorpCreds! wow!

To accommodate for this extra mode, a few changes to the combat were made

Combat Changes

- Blocking will now take into account the angle of the attacker, meaning you won't be able to negate damage even if they're attacking you from behind or off to the side.
- Attacking while blocking (jab punch) can now only be done if you're less than 80% Fatigued.
- Blocking attacks will now increase Fatigue.
- Riposte after a parry is faster
- Parrying (blocking just before an attack) doesn't affect Fatigue

The reason for these changes is to make combat a bit more challenging and the reward the sweeter. I was very lenient from the start since I was a bit worried players would find the combat either annoying or too hard or both, but now this arena is a chance to warm up and get used to the combat.
But of course, during the main story the choice is always there to ignore combat and let everyone else do the fighting for you.

Other

- Audio settings/motion blur slider should no longer reset between different sessions/choosing different levels.
- Fixed environment models missing some faces in the Arboretum level.
- Slightly changed The Pit arena ground to have less protruding geometry so it's smoother to move around in it.
- Fixed some player ragdoll issues due to the previous update.
- Fixed Jackson's computer not properly deactivating prior menus.
- Added U-Fix injection SFX

On a final note, it's been really motivational reading all the recent positive reviews. I messed up alot on launch due to stress and just a general lack of knowing what I was doing (still d to be fair), but at least now I have room to think on how to approach certain aspects of the game post-launch.

Anyway, I'm not done with it and I'm already working on more extra stuff for the game - next major update maybe end of the year or early next year!

Small fixes

- Added water SFX footstep sound
- Added missing glass breaking SFX to Arboretum big windows
- Corrected some Wreader typos
- Fixed an 'issue' that could happen when changing to normal stance while blocking, where the player would be in a blocking state without the blocking animation, even when outside of the combat stance.
- Fixed a grounded issue when falling from a greater height onto a body of water (theoretically wouldn't happen during a normal playthrough, but at least it's fixed)
- Fixed an issue with the Worried Citizen NPC where the dialogue would trigger the 2nd time you entered the Citizen Hub, even if you were nowhere near the NPC.
- Fixed an issue with the Skulls hotel entrance guard activating a dialogue if you went inside through the roof and exited without finding the objective Wreader.

Original Soundtrack now available!

Hey everyone!

Happy to announce that the Original Soundtrack for CORPUS EDAX is now available through Bandcamp for 4€.

You can support my brother's work by getting it here:

https://noai.bandcamp.com/album/corpus-edax-original-soundtrack

A couple of tracks in the game are copyright free from other artists, so they're not included in the OST itself but are credited in the game if you would like to listen to them!

Thank you for the support ːzombiethumbsupː

Quick lockpick fix

A quick fix for lockpick not registering the mouse/joystick.

In the middle of getting controller support for this minigame in my test environment, I forgot that this control map wasn't linked to the main game! ːsteamfacepalmː It's fixed now.

New Game+, Level Select, Travel restriction lifted!

Hello!

First - thank you to everyone who has bought the game and supported me in ensuring I could keep working on this as well as future projects!
This was my first 'big' RPG - I've made many mistakes, both design and feature creep, but learned a lot, so thank you for all the feedback!

Now for the update:

New Game+

Has arrived with a little extra - beyond being able to start a new game with all your AGNIS, Skills and Perks intact, you'll be able to get a new ability once you arrive at the Mass Abode building and sleep in your bed.
This New Game+ option will show up in the Main Menu once you beat the game (you will have to either load up a save just before the ending or finish a new game)

"Choose Level"

Main Menu option is now available after beating the game. This is just as it says, choose any level that you feel like replaying. This one is just for revisiting and going through a level, some levels may not work properly since they require story information from prior levels that are not available when you play this way.
Also, for anyone that has been here since the beginning, this was an option that broke the game for a day since I left this menu open and people couldn't click on anything and warranted some negative reviews and refunds... ːsteamsadː
Anyway....

Travel restriction lifted

You can now travel using the UnderTram to locations that also have the UnderTram, e.g. Citizen Hub, B-Class Echelon and Arboretum.
From the B-Class Echelon you can travel to the Citizen Hub, and from the Citizen Hub you can go back to the Mines, The Pit or the Boarding Hotel and of course, back to the B-Class Echelon through the UnderTram station.

Partial Controller Support

Menus now work properly with a controller! Lockpicking works with a controller and will show you the correct bindings!
You will still need a keyboard to input your name and age when creating a character, as well as a mouse for the hacking minigame. I couldn't find a good way to make this work on a controller since it requires some speed to click on the correct numbers, and a controller is a not good way of doing this.
For Steam Deck/ROG Ally users, I think this is a non-issue with the touchscreen?

There were also some minor fixes here and there:

- Fixed an issue with U-Fix Syringe not being thrown correctly
- Mouse Sensitivity now goes down to 0.1 instead of 1
- Fixed sharp weapons knocking enemies out instead of killing them
- FT (Fatigue) now goes down slightly faster
- Fixed enemies sometimes not go aggro if the Player threw a sharp object at them
- Fixed some issues with story progression if Jacquie was killed
- Fixed an issue with Alger not going to the correct spot if he was aggro'd and then deaggro'd.
- Fixed an issue with the objective in the Mines not activating properly

Now, between fixing bugs, I'm now designing an extra mode for the game that'll be available in the Main Menu, alongside New Game+ and the new Choose Level option.
I'm not sure when this will be out, but If you bought the game, I hope you will enjoy this extra piece of content whenever it's available, as this is for you as a thank you for the support. ːzombiethumbsupː

Small Arboretum changes and perk fix

Made some level design changes in the Arboretum -

  • Air ventilation props now lead to the breakable office windows inside the trees and flowers area in the 2nd area.
  • Emails are now even more explicit hinting on where to go.
  • Switch Zhang's safe to an analog one so you can have the choice of hacking the face pad or lockpicking the safe

Lockpicking pointer magnet is now slower, trying to counter those who have high DPI which affects the pointer speed.

Stealth perks for reduced sound propagation and footsteps sound range being reset were fixed

Added an analog safe in the Forever Night Club level as an alternate way of completing the objective.

Added some more consumables on the last level.

Added Quicksave button to Pause menu

Added a Quicksave button to the pause menu as an alternate way to Quicksaving by pressing F5.

This is in preparation for controller support. So far all the menus are working with the controller and I've made some new default bindings for the controller - don't forget to go to Key Bindings and "Reset to Default" so that you have the new bindings available.

Minigame UI, the character creation scene and computers UI are still being worked on, so after that the game should have full controller support!

I think I got carpal tunnel syndrome on my left hand from working on this game, so controller support is also welcomed by myself ːzombiethumbsupː (pictured: my left hand)
