CryoFall

Survey, Roadmap, and official PvP wipe

Survey

With the successful CryoFall release on Steam, we've received a tremendous amount of players' feedback in various areas of the game! Based on that we've prepared a formal survey that will help us better put it all together and define where we want to take the game in the future.

We want to make sure that we understand what's most important from the players' perspective so we can assign priorities and deliver the most requested improvements first.

Please follow this link to participate in the survey:
https://...
Thank you very much, everyone! The survey is now closed. It really helped us have a clearer picture of what people think about certain aspects of the game and the future the game will take!

The survey should only take a few minutes to complete. We are using Google Forms, so please note that you need to have a Google account as this is the only way we can ensure that the form will not be spammed and we will have valid replies.

Roadmap

We've updated the public roadmap to include our short-term plans and expand the number of ideas that we're considering to include in the future updates. Please vote for features that you wish to see the most!

Official PvP servers wipe

As you may know, all official PvP servers have regular wipes to ensure a level playing field and offer a fresh economy with each new round. It's a major event that brings a lot of players to compete with each other, starting from a common point.

We would like to remind you that all the official PvP servers have a scheduled wipe this week—Thursday, May 27th. Usually, the wipe happens on Fridays, but this time we know a lot of players are eagerly awaiting this wipe, so it will happen one day earlier!

Additionally, official PvP servers' wipe interval will be changed to every 3 weeks (previously it was 4 weeks). With this wipe, we will also deploy experimental rebalancing changes through server rates adjustment to make it a more balanced experience where you don't need to spend as much time gathering resources to craft your equipment and build sturdy walls while also reducing the risk of getting raided by bombs (their damage will be decreased though it will be easier to craft them due to higher resource rates). These changes will provide more dynamic gameplay.

Wipe time: 1 PM by GMT/UTC time (as usual).
For your convenience, here is the local time in the primary time zones we have:
• 8 AM by Central US (CDT, GMT-5 summer time)
• 3 PM by Central EU (CET, GMT+2 summer time)
• 16:00 by Russia/Moscow (GMT+3)
• 21:00 by China/Beijing (GMT+8)
• 10 AM by Argentina/Brazil (GMT-3)
• 10 PM by Japan and South Korea (GMT+9)

Important note: Official Asia 1 PvP and Asia 2 PvP servers will be united after the wipe in favor of a single Asia PvP server. This way we expect a larger population on a single server in this region which should offer a more exciting experience rather than having two servers with smaller populations on each. Also, we're happy to announce that we have deployed a new Anti-DDoS solution and expect that Asia servers can withstand any attacks smoothly.

CryoSmall & CryoFive wipe

As an additional note, a popular PvP community server CryoFive NA wiped last Saturday.
CryoSmall NA and CryoFive Europe will have a wipe this Saturday (29th May, 12 PM GMT/UTC). These featured community PvP servers offer the most balanced experience for PvP players. With a strict limit of 2 (CryoSmall) or 5 (CryoFive) players per team (no alliances permitted) and reputable administration enforcing this rule, you can have peace of mind that the server provides equal opportunities for everyone to compete. Join CryoSmall Discord to read further details!

Don't forget to join our Official Discord server to be aware of all the news and updates. We post a lot of upcoming content, features, and other interesting things there regularly and you can chat with us directly if you have any feedback: https://discordapp.com/invite/cryofall

That's it for now! See you in the game!

R30 Patch #1

=== CryoFall v1.30.6.8 (R30 Patch #1) ===

Patch notes:

Local server changes:
— x2 crafting speed by default
— x2 faster growth speed for vegetables by default
— The bosses and other world events will start running much earlier after the server launch
— Disabled automatic despawn of offline player character and vehicles

Please note that the local server settings and rates can be adjusted by editing the ServerRates.config file located in this folder: "\AtomicTorchStudio\CryoFall\" (stop the local server first)

Other changes:
— Implemented dynamic growth rate scaling system for trees, bushes, herbs, and other vegetation (except farm plants) to make them grow up to x2 faster depending on the online players number on the server. It will reduce the shortage of wood and herbs, and also fix the major shortage of rubber trees on highly populated PvP servers
— Wild rubber trees growth rate increased x1.5 (doesn't apply to trees planted inside the land claims)
— Greatly improved respawn of Rustshroom (an orange mushroom). Previously it spawned in a relatively low amount as it was significantly displaced by Penny bun mushroom spawn
— PvE: offline player characters located outside their owned base will be despawned in 1 hour instead of 4 hours. The same applies to their vehicles
— PvE: offline player characters standing on the land claim that they don't own will be despawned in 10 minutes. The same applies to their vehicles
— The game will stop nagging you with "Press [Enter] to start using chat"—it will disappear after a minute, but please note that you can just press Enter and select that you don't wish to use the chat (this is a persistent setting per server)

Fixes:
— Random crash related to the network library when browsing the servers list

If you're hosting a community server it's recommended to install this patch.

Singleplayer / Local server

The information below is no longer valid as starting with R31 "Singleplayer Update" the local server is seamlessly integrated into the game client. Other players can also connect to you over LAN (new tab in Multiplayer menu) and even over the internet with virtual LAN (with software such as Hamachi).
Please read the announcement:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/829590/view/2987567056728476348

Local server is currently provided as an experimental feature. We've received plenty of players' feedback that it works rock-stable already!

The server rates are customized to make it more fitting for a single-player experience: no structure decay, bosses require only a single player to defeat (you can adjust all these rates by editing ServerRates.config file), 60 FPS tick rate, x2 LP, x2 skill XP, x1.5 item gathering.

Running the local game server will require only an extra 1 GB of free RAM and several % of a typical CPU's resources.

Please note: this feature is not available for demo players as the demo version can be played only on the official and featured community servers.

How to launch and use the local server

  • 1. Navigate to the game folder (open Steam Client, right-click on CryoFall -> "Manage" -> "Browse local files")

  • 2. Double click on the "CryoFall Local Server" file. The console window for the local server will open and the server will start loading. Usually, it takes roughly a minute before the server is accessible (do not worry if it doesn't stop writing various information into the console—it's running properly and reports performance metrics). You may need to approve its access in Firewall if such a prompt will be displayed
  • 3. Launch the game client as usual
  • 4. Navigate to the "SERVERS" menu and open the "Custom" tab on the right side of the tabs bar (it has a distinctive "+" icon)

  • 5. Connect to the "localhost" server (the first one in the list; it may take 1-2 minutes before it's accessible)
  • 6. After you've finished playing, simply close the console window of the game server and it should automatically stop and save your progress (it also performs an autosave every hour same as multiplayer servers)

Extra information

The save game and the server rates configuration file are stored in this folder:/AtomicTorchStudio/CryoFall/
If you cannot find AtomicTorchStudio folder in your Documents, please copy-paste this path into Windows Explorer's address bar:%LocalAppData%/AtomicTorchStudio/CryoFall/

If you want to reset your local server, just stop it and delete the Saves folder.

Out of Early Access

This is a big moment for the development team! As we are celebrating this milestone, we also know there is a long way ahead with making CryoFall an even better game. We're grateful to our Early Access players, publisher, translators, additional contributors, open source maintainers, our families and friends, and many other people that have given us their help and showed patience to allow us to bring the game to this milestone. Thank you, guys!

The game has been in active development since late 2015—yes, roughly five years, two of which in Steam Early Access. We started from scratch by writing a custom game engine, and over the years we've added everything we wanted to see in the release version and ensured that the game offers a smooth experience with no bugs or other issues. We are proud to present the current iteration of the game for public view and the enjoyment of thousands of players!

Let's check some of the important things that you need to keep track of before proceeding to play the 1.0!

Version naming change

To avoid confusion with 1.0 numeration and our established naming scheme, the latest major update A30 (v0.30) is now renamed to R30 (v1.30). Every future major update will follow this scheme—e.g. R31, R32, and, hopefully, so on!

Demo version

Same as before, we will continue to offer a free demo version of the game, which is actually a full version of the game that you can play for 8 hours on any of the official servers. So, if you (or your friends) are considering whether to take the plunge and purchase CryoFall—hesitate no longer! Simply try the demo and judge for yourself if CryoFall is the game for you!

We will also reset the demo timer with the v1.0 release giving players that have already tried the demo extra time to evaluate the game.

Future development

The release of version 1.0 doesn't mean we will stop here. It's a major milestone that we will follow up with future improvements to expand the world, bringing in more content and features. This is the most exciting time in development, as the game will have more players than ever, providing their feedback and helping us to shape the future of the game!

We're planning to provide a detailed roadmap soon after the release hype is over and we can take a good breath.

PvP servers

As promised, official PvP servers were wiped today to offer a fresh economy and ensure a level playing field for everyone. The future schedule will follow our standard for official PvP servers with a four-week wipe cycle.

With the v1.0 release, we've considered launching an official PvP server in North America, however, there is something better now! You will be delighted to know that a new featured community server CryoFive North America has just opened. It offers the most balanced experience for PvP players in this region! With a strict limit of 5 players per team (no alliances) and reputable administration enforcing this rule, you can have peace of mind that this server provides equal opportunities for everyone to compete. Please also look for featured CryoSmall and CryoFive servers located in Europe if you're looking for a similar experience—they will have a wipe this and the next weekend and many players will rush there to try their skills!

PvE servers

We've launched a new official PvE server: Official UK PvE. We will launch more servers to expand the capacity if necessary.

There will be no wipe on the official PvE servers for at least the next six months after v1.0 releases. We recognize that a portion of PvE players doesn't enjoy the usual session-based approach to server operation (e.g. server wipes), so we will do our absolute best to keep and transfer their progress into future updates without server resets. However, as you know CryoFall is not an MMO with permanent characters but a session-based game with a multitude of independent servers, so no individual server can be permanent. Continued future development means that eventually there may be a need to reset the world to introduce new features and changes to the world map. On the other hand, if you are playing on a private server you are not affected by this, as you can decide when you would like to reset the world (if at all). We will also continue to offer legacy versions of the game for those who would like to use them.

Steam Release (1.0)

As promised, we've got a lot of details for you about this upcoming release of CryoFall and many topics to cover, so without further ado let's dive in!

Out of Steam Early Access!

CryoFall is going to leave Steam Early Access this month, on April 29th.

Official servers

To support the larger number of players we're expecting after launch, we're going to deploy more official servers to expand our capacity and cover even more regions than before.

Additionally, official PvP servers will be wiped on April 29th to offer a fresh economy and ensure a level playing field for everyone. They will then follow our usual four-week wipe cycle (no changes here).

There will be no wipe on the official PvE servers with 1.0 launch and for at least the next six months after v1.0 releases. We recognize that a portion of PvE players don't enjoy the usual session-based approach to server operation (e.g. server wipes), so we will do our absolute best to keep and transfer their progress into future updates without server resets.

Massive promotions

Together with our publisher Daedalic Entertainment, we are planning to run a number of massive promotions for the release date. This includes press releases, interviews, and invitations for influencers, YouTubers, and streamers to review the game and share it with new audiences.

Hopefully, this marketing push will bring a lot of new people into the game and fill up all the featured servers with new and exciting player interactions! Either way, we are going to do our best to make this launch a massive success. Please give us your support—invite your friends to try the game, and share this information on social media. See you on April 29th!

Thank you and see you in the game!

A30 Patch #1

=== CryoFall v0.30.6.2 (A30 Patch #1) ===

The first patch for A30 is released now! Thanks everyone for your feedback!

Official PvE servers:
- As now more PvE players can participate in the boss event thanks to the preparation delay that was introduced in A30, we've increased the Pragmium Queen boss loot and HP by 40% and Sand Tyrant boss loot and HP by 20%. However, the following few official servers are NOT affected and have reduced boss difficulty (due to lower online number): Asia PvE, South America PvE, Oceania PvE

Patch notes:

Changes:
- AI: Creatures will stop chasing you after a while even if you've aggroed them. They will also not start chasing you from far away when you come back
- Achievements allowed for featured modded servers (such as CryoSmall/CryoFive servers with custom maps)
- PvE: Ground items (such as wood/stone piles and loot crates) will be locked temporarily for the player that has first interacted with them (other players cannot gather them for some short time)
- PvE: Killed creatures are locked for the player that has killed them (other players cannot loot them for some time)
- Reduced memory consumption of the local server (this is an experimental feature offering singleplayer experience)

Fixes:
- PvP: Destroying a blueprint should not incur a raid block
- PvP: Сannot manage shield on a personal land claim when the player is a member of a faction and don't have shield management permission
- Auto light time for floor lamps was not correct
- Editor: it was possible to overlap roads over each other
- Buttons in the respawn menu are not wide enough for certain languages

If you're hosting a community server it's recommended to install this update.

A30 "Keinite" Update Release

It is almost time for CryoFall to leave Early Access (the release date is set for 29th of April and we will share detailed information about it separately in a few days!), so this final update before the official release is meant to offer one last round finishing touches and add all of the small features we absolutely wanted to have in the game before release

So, let's dive in and see what we have to offer this time!

The first thing you will probably notice when joining the game now is the addition of the so-called Origin System. Now you can choose your character background and receive several small advantages to various areas based on what you selected.

Next, is the new mineral Keinite after which this new update is named. While the Pragmium is our energy-related mineral this new Keinite isn't so much a mineral, but rather an alien substance of biological origin! It's essential for exotic weapons which are also added in A30 Update. You will be able to create this new type of biological weapons in Tier 5.

Another massive addition is the Pragmium Power Plant. It will serve as the main source of energy for massive bases in the late game. This should allow you to focus on other interesting activities rather than worrying about maintaining your base's power supply. And while we are at it—we have also made solar panels significantly cheaper and rebalanced practically everything related to energy. This aspect of the game should be more rewarding and enjoyable now with much less grind (as long as you do the optimal things rather than trying to stubbornly use steam generators even in Tier 5! :) ).

Creatures A.I. and balance were also changed substantially. They are more aggressive and faster now and will react to your actions rather than just idly waiting their turn to be killed. But that's not all—now you can also encounter various mutated forms of existing creatures offering more variety to your hunting excursions. And yes, these mutations are caused by the new Keinite substance.

The faction system has also been reworked with new permissions and completely reworked the Leaderboard (faction score) system. This should offer much more interesting and varied competition for both PvP and PvE servers. UI of the faction screen has also been completely reworked.

Reworked events in A30 will also offer more opportunities to participate for all players, especially in PvE for bigger events such as world bosses (Pragmium Queen and Sand Tyrant). Certain events also offer better rewards (including newly introduced Keinite).

Some other key additions and changes this time

- Vehicle naming—set a custom name to your vehicle to easily distinguish it from other vehicles that you own!
- A lot of existing items, world objects, minerals, characters, plants, props, etc. have been updated with new visuals to make them fit better with our current visual style and to bring their quality to our current standard
- When you send drones to mine a mineral or cut a tree, they automatically reserve space in your inventory to prevent a situation where there is no more space for them to return
- Keinite can be obtained from all event creatures and if using the new Keinite extractor from some regular creatures and mutants
- Reworked implants balance and crafting costs plus added an additional new implant
- And as always - dozens of new items, structures, technologies, status effects, and more!

Official servers wipe

This time all official PvP servers are wiped. We welcome you to join all the newly started servers with the fresh economy and all of the new stuff introduced by the update!
PvE servers are NOT affected and you can continue playing with your existing characters after the wipe.

Legacy support

As usual, we make a legacy branch for the previous (A29) version client available if you intend to keep using it on a community or a private server. Just open game properties in the Steam Client, navigate to the BETAS tab, and select the "legacy-a29" branch.

Patch notes

Want to know more about the update? You can find detailed patch notes on our forums.

A30 Update launch date is set!

We are happy to announce that the A30 "Keinite Update" is coming tomorrow (16th of April). Normally, we try to do an announcement at least a week in advance, but this time unfortunately this was delayed due to third parties taking longer than anticipated—notably localization. But thankfully the update is now ready for release!

As usual, we will post detailed information about the update and the patch notes when the update launches.

Launch date: 16th of April, 1 PM by GMT/UTC time.

For your convenience, here is the local time in the primary time zones we have:
• 8 AM by Central US (CDT, GMT-5 summer time)
• 3 PM by Central EU (CET, GMT+2 summer time)
• 16:00 by Russia/Moscow (GMT+3)
• 21:00 by China/Beijing (GMT+8)
• 10 AM by Argentina/Brazil (GMT-3)
• 10 PM by Japan and South Korea (GMT+9)

All official PvP servers will be wiped as usual (also, two popular community servers CryoSmall and CryoFive will wipe simultaneously!).
No wipe for official PvE servers, the progress is transferred to the updated version (some faction score metrics will be reset as we've changed how they're counted).

As usual, we will provide a legacy branch for the previous (A29) client version if you intend to keep playing with it on a community or a private server that is not updated to A30.

A30 Experimental Patch #4

=== CryoFall v0.30.5.2 (A30 Experimental Patch #4) ===

We're getting very close to the A30 Update release! Stay tuned for the announcements.
This patch makes some final improvements and brings A30 localization (work in progress).
If you're playing on the experimental server and using a non-English version, please let us know if you find any translation issues.

Patch notes:

Changes:
- Integrated localization to all the supported languages except Russian and Turkish (work in progress)
- When dropping an item on the ground by pointing on a tile too far away or that has obstacles, the item will be dropped in the closest available tile to the character
- Faction leave cooldown: When leaving a faction, you can join another faction or create a new faction after just 6 hours now, but you cannot return to the faction that you left earlier than 24 hours
- Added weapon ready cooldown when entering a mech (1 second, same as most ranged weapons). Doesn't apply to hoverboards (as the weapon is not changed when entering it)

Server rates config improvements:
- By a popular request—added new server rate setting "ItemStackSizeMultiplier"—multiplier to adjust the item stack size (useful for high rates servers but will inevitably affect power generation balance as well as PvP balance and other aspects of the game)
- New "WorldEventDelayMultiplier" allows adjusting when certain world events (like boss spawn) should start on the server after the world creation/wipe
- Confusing "PvE" setting was replaced with "PvP" setting (to make your server PvP just set it to 1)

Fixes:
- Dropping items on the ground sometimes fired the active weapon/used the active item from the hotbar
- Deconstruction tooltip was displayed for ruin doors when crowbar is selected
- "Leave faction" button was overlapping with other UI elements
- 10mm and .300 cal ammo listed turrets in their compatible weapons list

A30 Experimental Patch #3

=== CryoFall v0.30.4.1 (A30 Experimental Patch #3) ===

If you have not tried the experimental version yet, please consider joining one of the experimental servers and help us improve the game!

Patch notes:

Changes:
- PvP: Energy turrets rebalanced—decreased HP and explosion damage resistance (higher damage from grenades), increased power consumption
- PvE: Reduced durability cost of relocating floor with the toolbox
- Improved server savegame compatibility to ensure a smooth migration from the A29 version's savegame
- Reduced the amount of pragmium received from the boss loot (Pragmium Queen)
- Local server default rates changed: boss events will start after 10 hours of gameplay and happen x2 more often (adjustable by editing ServerRates.config as usual)
- Replaced outdated ambient occlusion video option with an optimized approach (the previous option barely affected the game visuals and we found a more optimized approach to achieve similar results and also make it available for everyone instead of opt-in)
- Factions list: improved sort order (e.g. when sorting by member number/level and two or more factions have the same number/level)

Fixes:
- Outer Rim Protectorate origin didn't provide the mining speed bonus when mining with drones
- PvP: ally raiding notification was sent to all players coming online even if they're not in alliance with the raided base's owner faction
- Current action timer (yellow circle, e.g. when refueling an item) overlapped with the current character's nickname/healthbar when "Show healthbar over my character" option enabled
