Since launching version 0.9.4 on Friday we've received reports of a couple of annoying bugs, so we've rapidly pushed two patches to solve them.

0.9.6 (September 14 2020)



  • Fixed freeze when entering the Old Camp
  • Fixed chieftain quest character should not keep equipped items


0.9.5 (September 12 2020)



  • Fixed a memory leak that could lead to crashes

Curious Expedition 2 is now available in Simplified Chinese!

We're happy to announce that Curious Expedition 2 has been fully translated to Simplified Chinese!



Our original idea was to add support for other languages besides English only after the Early Access phase, but so many of you asked for Simplified Chinese in the past few months that we decided to change our plans, and worked hard to deliver this update to you as soon as possible.

We hope you'll have fun playing the game, let us know your thoughts on the Steam Forums or on Tieba.

We're extremely happy to announce that last night Curious Expedition 2 won the award for Best Indie Game at gamescom 2020! This really means a lot, it gives us a nice morale boost as we're getting closer to finishing the game.

0.9.3 Patch Notes

Map performance on the Forgotten Lands should now be much better! We've also hopefully fixed some issues with Malin that would make some of the story expeditions not be completable.

0.9.2 Patch notes

Today's patch is mostly to improve the bad map performance that crept in with Alpha 9 in larger maps, and also to switch the in-game bug reporting system to a different implementation. If bug reporting in-game didn't work for you before, please try again now. If it still doesn't work, please comment below!

A few tuning changes and bug fixes for your expeditions today:

  • Cartographer shield combo weakened slightly
  • Set tea calm chance to 100%
  • Increased light radius of pitch pot and beacon slightly
  • Reduced elixir value from 8->5
  • Buffed the mother of spiders and gave it more danger
  • Added stash to cavern exit in story2b
  • Switched salamander guardian's plain shield combo to be targeted retaliation+armor (it's now weaker, but hopefully more interesting)

  • Fixed a bug where the scout post and huntermaster wouldn't count for the anthropology checklist
  • Changed altar default camera to bottom alignment

New content update: The Search for the Stolen Staff (Alpha 9) is out now



Dear Explorers,

Summer is in full swing here in Berlin, but this hasn't stopped us preparing another major content update for you — The Search for the Stolen Staff (Alpha 9) is available now!

The most notable additions are the Mesoamerican-themed human tribe and a new story mission, but you'll also find several new locations, events, items, characters, animals and hazards.

This update of course also includes changes, improvements and bug fixes based on the feedback you've all been providing on the Steam Forums and on our Discord server — thanks once again for your support!

  • Giant Mushrooms tiles in the Prehistoric biome cost less sanity to traverse during the full moon

  • Aborting an expedition will now skip the Triumph sequence
  • Huntmaster and Scout Post locations now send out a zone that replicates their previous gameplay effect
  • Island outlines are no longer visible at the beginning of an expedition
  • New recruits are now more appropriately levelled
  • Wolves now have different aggro range and stronger attacks during the full moon
  • Meat is no longer weightless
  • Characters that find Meat will now instead find Quail, which are weightless
  • Zone movement is now animated
  • Standing is now reset at the start of each island


Notable Bug Fixes



  • Fixed ship not spawning sometimes, or spawning inland
  • Fixed enemy zone 'Sleeping' state not being saved/loaded correctly
  • Fixed Promote button being visible when it shouldn't during tutorial

0.8.3 Patch Notes

Your trek members should be happy when you choose to promote them, not angry! That bug is now fixed.
